    This is such a cool idea. I like how you used fabric so you could put speakers behind it. Also the LED light strip that goes around the edge adds another cool look to it. I wanted to put LED strips around my ceiling but never liked how they looked when you could see the LED’s. This way you just see the glow with the bonus of the fiber optic. This is definitely my favorite version of this. Very cool!

    Kedrick, you have the patience of a saint. I'm not just talking about the DIY...but also the way you've responded to all these comments, including the repeat questions! I've taken on this project but adapted it. My box is slightly larger, so I ordered the larger size of the same brand of tablecloth you used (after buying a bunch of fabric and realizing the seams will show if I stitch them together to make them wide enough to cover the area). I decided to double up on the table cloth to make it less see-through, and I'm just using a nail to punch through the two layers before threading the strands. The cloth I ordered was supposed to be a true rectangle, but the corners are tapered and rounded, which made the ends too short to actually wrap the frame, but I am improvising. I also built a cradle in the center of the box to hold the LED driver. It adds only a little more weight, keeps the driver off the cloth and allows me to center it right under the ceiling outlet. Big problem, though... the optic strands are coming out of the bundle, even when I don't pull them very tightly. Very frustrating, especially since I bought a 1,000 strand unit and am losing way too many strands. I'm wondering if you or others know if I can reattach these loose strands or if have to just throw them away and make do with what's left. Sorry for the super long comment. Thanks for your excellent video and for your saintly input.

    • @KedrickFoster
      @KedrickFoster  3 года назад +1

      No problem and thanks for watching! So have you already started putting the strands thru the fabric? If so just remove to strands that came out the base, then tape (very tightly) where all the strands come together so additional strands don't pull out. If you haven't already started installing the strands return it and get a new one and repeat my first step of taping so strands don't come out. I would love to see the finished product ! Let me know if you have anymore questions.

    • @actualangie7488
      @actualangie7488 3 года назад

      @@KedrickFoster, yes. We are 75% through threading the strands through the fabric and can't stand the thought of starting that all over again with a new unit. Did you show a first step of taping so the strands don't detach from the bundle? I don't see that in the video. I made a (wrong) assumption that the strands would be secure at the gathering point. We lost a few at the start, but then strands in one area started coming out in handfuls. I suppose if we lose between 50 and 200, that's still 800 or more lights, which is decent. But I have to rethread in a bunch of places we'd already threaded...because the strands that were in place came out from the source. Aggravating. But I will try to secure the ones still connected so we don't lose any more. I just wonder if they will actually light if they are loose at the source, even with tape added.

    • @actualangie7488
      @actualangie7488 3 года назад

      @@KedrickFoster I didn't. I wanted more stars and longer strand reach, and I thought I was getting a unit with more power and solid reviews. I tested it before starting the install and it seemed to work fine. Hoping for the best once working through these issues. Also wanted the benefit of both an app and a remote control. Would really like to know if the fibers are still useable if I can find a way to reattach them to the driver.

    That was a really cool project Kendrick! The stars are really stellar........anyway. Never seen that. I've interned with some studio and observed a few panel builds with led but I've noticed that wiring is usually a pain. With it being very noticeable or hard not to plug into along with audio hardware. I'd love to make this idea with acoustic panels but the fiber optic cable running through the ceiling light. Quickly went over my head. Is it possible to make a lighter and duplicable construction(s) for this? Say for a diy treatment of acoustic panels with fabric, Owens 703, and the fiber optic? I'd love to incorporate this project to my portable/home studio apartment or something down the line when hopefully running my own studio build. Congrats on a successful build man, it's gorgeous and striking. StarStruck!

    • @KedrickFoster

      Yea they stick out a little less than a quarter inch. You can cut them all flush if you want, you would just need to glue them all in place
