  • Hello guys and thanks once again for joining me on this, my return from Cornwall on the Loganair ATR-72.
This is the final video of the series and as you will see, the weather was still amazing for the UK with the unrelenting sunshine staying with me all the way to Manchester! I do like the ATR-72 and I've had great flights with Loganair in the past. But something bugged me slightly about this flight and I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on this in the comments below.
Have a watch and let me know what you think. I'll sum up my thoughts at the end and I'll leave you to decide whether you agree or not. Either way, like I said, your comments are most welcome.
Thanks for watching and cheers for now!

Brilliant review, very well documented! I flew with Loganair recently on a Saab 340 from Glasgow, and can confirm that snacks (Tunnocks wafer/shortbread) were offered, along with a small cup of water. I just really don't understand the refusal to serve hot drinks though, certainly not Covid related at this point!

Hey PG27, thanks for the kind words! Yes my last flight INV - MAN in an ERJ135 I had a Tunnocks and some odd looking ‘cartons’ of water, no hot drinks. I think it’s just penny-pinching tbh with the c-word being the convenient excuse. Last time I flew on the Saab340 was up to Shetland - love those planes and tbh, they’re probably the main reason I’d drag myself back on a Loganair flight in the future 😂 All the best, Mark

I get the feeling that Logan Air are trying to cut costs during the pandemic. Although it’s hard to get any fares that are less than about £70 and to be honest they aren’t really any different from Easyjet who do the same flight for half the price. ✈️

I've never flown on a propellor plane such as this and only the Airbus - Boeing jets, but flying this route at the end of the month. Any reassurance for a nervous flyer as I've heard these flights can get quite bumpy and feel different on take off etc

Hi Justin, well, the wings are above you so at least you can see they’re attached to the fuselage properly and can get a good view of the engines! I’ve been on a few of these types of aircraft and yes it’s probably fair to say they can be a little bumpy but I always think it feels more like proper flying. And they’ll be at a lower altitude too so if you’re cloud-free, should be a nice view. Just enjoy it if you can and have a great flight 😊👍

I live in Cornwall so fly both the ATR and Q400 turboprops a lot, as most flights out of here use them. They are absolutely fine. Safety wise they are no different to jets. These aren't old designs, both have their origins in the same era as the Airbus A320, and ATR are actually 50% owned by Airbus, and are designed with some commonality in mind. The Q400 (aka the Dash-8 Q400) which is the other main Turboprop you'll see out of Newquay (mostly with FlyBe) is a rugged Canadian design and was designed from the ground up to compete directly with regional jets in terms of safety, speed and comfort. Both planes are still actively marketed and sold by their manufacturers, and ATR recently launched their latest generation ATR-72, while the Q400 production line is currently restarting post-Covid.
The only real difference you'll be aware of as a passenger is that the noise is different due to the props being much bigger than the fan on a jet engine. Some people complain it makes the cabin louder, but honestly I've never really noticed that much difference. The main benefit is that on the turboprops, they wings are mounted above the cabin (rather than below it, as on jets - to give the props enough ground clearance) which means that even if you've got a seat next to the wings, you still get a good view.
So no worries, relax and have a lovely flight - hopefully the weather gives you a good view!

I prefer the turboprops myself - there's fewer passengers so check-in, boarding, deboarding and luggage reclaim (when needed) are all a bit faster and less chaotic. The main thing I wish we had is an interline agreement with the LCCs at Gatwick and Manchester to make connections more streamlined coming from Eastern or Loganair. Alas, that's not the Easyjet/Ryanair way of working!

Thank you for a great review ! As you say, the flight was fine, but frankly, the lack of any on-board service was a disgrace. Loganair, being Scottish based, is clearly following the whims of the Scottish government . Both Avanti West Coast, and LNER now offer full on board service on their trains, and the wonderful EasyJet have done so on their flights for a while now. Therefore I wouldn't touch Loganair with a bargepole, and where there is competition from EasyJet, I would prefer to pay for their on-board service, and they fly better planes also ! Many thanks.

BA were pretty-much back to normal in their business class club Europe too. Loganair, abysmal, as is their customer service. Anyone would think they were actively trying to lose customers.
