Today I decided to do one of the most essential upgrades for my defender. This is installing a central locking kit! This kit is surprisingly easy to install, and takes very little electrical knowledge.
I purchased a central locking kit off of Amazon for under £20, with the desired remotes I was after (some come with more buttons and functions), but my plan was only to have them operate the locking and alarm, which I’m yet to install.
This kit is plug an play, you place the solenoids in the desired locations, and run the wiring through the vehicle to the control module. The control module is hard wired to the battery, and has its very own wiring harness, so everything connects up very easily.
The kit took me a few hours to install due to the difficulty of finding a solid section on the door that didn’t interfere with the windows, but this is only a problem I had due to the rust on my defenders doors.
You shouldn’t have any issues installing this to other vehicles, such as a classic mini.

Hi, all kits on ebay are similar, you just need to see which one suits you best. For example some have alarms, or can be wired with alarms, or some can just be lock / unlock. This one could be wired to an alarm, but I never fitted an alarm to my Land Rover. If you’re not worried about fitting an alarm, then you’re best of with just the lock / unlock buttons on the remote. The possibilities are really endless, you can even fit remote start kits. I personally wouldn’t do it on a manual though.

Hi, the kit I fitted still works fine. Have fitted other kits in the past and haven’t had issues. Possibly people not installing them correctly :/
