    Great video! As a Texas native most women carry protection here. Also, if you drive a truck you should invest in a catalytic converter lock. Most of us keep a wheel lock! Please don’t keep the lock in your car🤦🏽‍♀️ Stay away from certain crime infested neighborhoods!

    Thank you for this video. I appreciate the dynamic of your opinions (you being a resident for < ten years vs her as a resident of 20+ years). Hearing you both agree on a lot of the points that I had concern for was validating. I've never lived in Houston but I've had many ppl 'romanticize' the idea of living/moving to Houston that I was strongly considering the move for a job. However, when I visited I did not enjoy the practical things of my experience like dealing with the danger of the highway driving. As someone who's heard from my mother all the time to slow down (bc I'm a fast driver), I could not believe the SPEED that people were driving in Houston (and VERY recklessly, just like you described in your video). Driving 80 mph felt like I was doing 55 mph on the highway due to the number of cars speeding past me. The other dangers mentioned, like theft, traffic, random targeted violence against women, and the overall packed population of it all sounds like I would deal with constant anxiety as a single woman living alone in Houston. This video gave me added clarity about my decision lol.

    The traffic is no joke and the problem is that the highways do not go where you need to go. If it does, then it's a toll road. So many resort to the surface streets where are almost always bumper to bumper. Even on off traffic times you will wait 2 to 3 maybe 4 light cycles to turn left. Why? Because left turn lanes are mostlyl all one lane when they should be two. Also be aware that cell phone usage is NOT against the law while at a red light. Therefore when the light turns green most people are busy on their phones.

    If you want to limit the amount of crime that effects you, move to a safer neighborhood. If you live in the Houston city limits you can expect to be broken into, to have you vehicle broken into, to be harassed or assaulted as a female, to be harassed by the homeless, to maybe experience a home invasion (depending on where you live). If you live outside the city limits, preferably in a far outlying area, like Katy, you are way less likely to experience any of that or maybe just get your car broken into. You definitely will not come out of your house or apartment in Katy, Sugarland, The Woodlands, Conroe and find your car on blocks. Although, the catalytic converter thefts are everywhere and unavoidable but they happen less in very rural areas because most people in rural areas own guns to hunt and protect themselves. Ironically enough, less shootings happen in those areas. I think it's because everyone knows not to mess with them. Lol

    • @lisanewton8237
      @lisanewton8237 Год назад +2

      @@user-mm4qv6vr5z there are a few that don't experience problems. Usually it's locals that know what they can get by with or what they need to do to defend their property. My mom has lived in Tasfield, off of 59 and Little York for 50 years, but she knows how to prevent people causing problems. But, there are still there's a difference between one hood and another hood. There are some places that are absolute no go areas here and some that are mildly bad, it varies from hood to hood. I wouldn't set a foot in Trinity Gardens and there are a few more that are just too much extra. I use to work near Clinton Park. It's ok. But Trinity Gardens, Braeburn Gardens, Kashmere Gardens, etc, those are absolute no go zones. But, if you expect a quiet family neighborhood or to have some sort or police protection don't live in the Houston city limits. Unless you live in River Oaks you can't expect any level of care by anyone in HPD if your property gets stolen.

      It doesn't happen in every area inside the loop in city limits, you've got very safe neighborhoods inside city limits like Tanglewood, River Oaks, Bellaire, uptown etc. Cars on bricks definitely doesn't happen in surrounding cities in Houston like Cypress, Kingwood, The Woodlands

    I grew up in Houston in the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s and crime depends on whether citizens care about enforcing the laws by appointing tougher judges and improving and empowering the police force. Murder rate was insane in the late 80s and early 90s. It was in the 600s at its peak. People were fed up with it and voted in a new mayor in 1992, Bob Lanier, who did all the aforementioned stuff. If you're old enough to remember the 90s then you'd remember Guiliani did the same thing in New York. Crime went down. Houston voted the former police chief to be mayor after Lanier who continued to be pretty tough on crime. Things have been going downhill for some time and sadly things will probably have to get pretty bad before the pendulum swings back...

    Houston had less crime and was safer pre-2018 midterm elections (You can check the crime statistics). A LOT of very liberal and lenient judges were elected into office and they are giving out very low bonds and light punishments so there are many criminals on the streets nowadays. Pre-2018 they would be in jail/prison instead of roaming around and causing problems to the people that live here. I voted for a lot of these judges in 18, I will be voting against them this November. I suggest the same to those who want to see crime decrease in the future.

    Drivers are so aggressive in Houston because everything is wild far, the expressways are huge, and we're always in our cars. The only way to make Houston feel like a "normal" sized city is to do 90mph everywhere 😂
    Once people get out of their cars, they're as friendly as can be. It's like that old Mr. Wheeler cartoon with Goofy.
