Apparently Jesus mother and Salome were sisters were related. I thought he meant John the Baptist too but no. Mary and Salome were said to be sisters or of some way related. She even asked Jesus if John and James could sit on his right side in Heaven.
Thanks Brandon. Regarding John (and James) as Jesus' First Cousins, you forgot to mention Matt. 27:55-56. 55 "Many women were there, watching from a distance. They had followed Jesus from Galilee to care for His needs. 56 Among them were Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of Zebedee's sons." This also falls right in line with Mark and John's gospels regarding the women at the cross, and readily suggests John and James well could have been Jesus' first cousins. This idea was added to a wonderful Biblical Novel - Patmos, by David Stoeckl, where Apostle John on Patmos is talking with the new church he'd started on Patmos. He talked about Uncle Yosef, the carpenter, and knowing Jesus while they were growing up. The novel covers a bunch of miracles John performed on Patmos, plus the account of John in Rome before Domitian Caesar, being poisoned, (did not die) and boiled in oil, (did not cook). Check out the book if you want to know more. Fun reading.
Thank you for explaining what we can only wonder about since the Bible leaves us without all the answers. But as my mother used to tell me in my never ending questions "if all the answers were in the Bible what would we have to talk to Jesus about when we get to Heaven?" 🙂
@violet's place I don't know why anyone would feel that way. It makes sense that a historian would write about the life of the apostles. I read the life/crucifixion account by the historian Josephias. He didn't write much other than his age, 33 and that he'd seemingly done only good deeds. Thank you ❤️
@violet's place I know they had disciples to carry on the work of the church. Thank you for pointing that out. I'm sure that's been brought up before but not much taught about them in church. We all should study outside of church.
John did changed from his usual ways when he met Jesus and walked with Jesus for three years; we all need to follow such example to change when we become believers in Jesus.
You have a true gift of communicating details, that are in God’s Holy Word. Glad to have the privilege to learn some new nuggets of wisdom from you as well. Thanks for your service. I will now finish binge watching The Chosen. Season one. We are also studying John at our Church, great info. Well done! 👍🤗🙏🏻

Brandon you are simply awesome! You share with us so much Jewish history and background that really helps us to get a complete picture and understanding. Thank you so much for what you do!!
I'm glad that you made this video; about a month or so ago, as I was studying scripture... the Holy Spirit gave me revelation to John (the Apostle) being Jesus other cousin. I was STUNNED! Like you, I went back to reading the very same scriptures and 'mapping' out the women, and Salome stood out as Mary's (Jesus' mom) sister. I do not see how this would be a 'bad' thing since, Hebrew people are a family minded culture and keep close; as you said, it's a minor detail and not one that brings 'salvation', but more of a fun fact factor. Keep up the great work. Shalom.
BEAUTIFUL! Happy to learn these because John is one of my Favorite of The Apostles. When I was a teen, I was moved deeply by the fact John leaned on Jesus' bosom, therefore he was able actually to hear the "heartbeat of God!" I prayed to be that close to Jesus myself! Many years later, it is one prayer God has answered and is answering still! Not with frivolity or naivete but through deep pain and the sweet fellowship that comes through decades of relationship!
Absolutely top favorite " In the beginning was the word and the word was with God, the was was God and the word became flesh and walked amongst us". On the Chosen when Jesus and John were choosing what Jesus should read from in the very small synagogue, they only had the first 5 books of Moses. They chose creation . But... While Jesus read John was filling in the lines in his head with what I said first. That scene makes me feel such love and I cry as John has tears coming down his face. I've seen it 8 times and 8 times I've cried.Thank you Brandon for your teaching.

“The Word” may be a nod to Greek Stoic thought, but more certain is the this reference in the OT. The Word of the LORD is used to describe the visible Yahweh, who is the pre-incarnate Christ in the OT. John knew his OT.

He is the SON of God ....thereby Jesus is what his Father is ...God ...the son of the Most High. Search the scriptures and you will see hundreds of verses that say the Father gave Jesus all that he has...that Jesus inherits all from his Father ...that the Father raised his son from the grave. Literally hundreds of verses make it so very clear that Jesus, before his birth on earth, was the true son of his Father. For God so loved the world that he SENT his only begotten son into the world. I pray for the blessing of this simple truth that modern theology has made us forget. One last verse to study. John 17:3...this is life eternal, that they might know Thee, the ONLY true God , and Jesus Christ whom thou hast sent. The Father is the only true, self existing God, but praise to him he brought forth a son before the beginning of creation that should sin emerge, there would be a solution. Study John chapters 14-17 and you will begin to see what few understand. Blessings
@@deni2622 You say he brought forth a son...So he created Jesus, like he created the first Adam????? Nonsense. He is God the eternal preexistent one, who was before all things and by whom all things exist. The doctrine of the trionity has corrupted your view of exactly who God is. Jesus said who he was per thee video... the one and only "I AM". that one who spoke with Moses. The son of God never existed before he was born of a woman.
@@dsheppard8492actually, I am absolutely not Trinitarian. I came out of the trinitarian theology after reading scriptures and believing the Word for what it says. There is one almighty God, self-existent and eternal. Before creation of anything He brought forth FROM HIMSELF, one who was just like him....a son. NOT created, but born of. Adam is created, angels are created, but Jesus was brought forth uniquely...he is the only BEGOTTEN son of the Father . Do we see anything in scripture where life comes forth of a male?? Yes, from Adams rib God brought forth Eve who was flesh of his flesh. Not a new creation, but life from life. Could God have brought forth from himself life?? Of course, and according to his own testimony this is what he did. God then much later sent forth his son into the world....for God so loved the world that he SENT his only begotten son into the world . The Old Testament shows us shadows of this truth but the New Testament shines great light on it. There are two...the Father and the Son....and as stated clearly in John 14 since the day of Pentecost they have sent forth their own spirits, which are holy because they are holy, to live in the hearts of all whom believe. Study John 14...while Christ lived on earth the spirit of his father dwelt within him and it was the Father who did the works of the miracles through Jesus. After Jesus makes this concept clear he goes on to tell the disciples that after he goes he will come again....I will not leave you comfortless, I will come to you. .....and a few verses later, if you love me and keep my commandments than I will come with my Father and will will abide in you.
@@deni2622 You are confused. t/here is one God who revealed himself to the world as a HUMAN. this human persona he called himself a son to conceal his true identity as the one single God. Were he to say, while clothed in flesh, " I am" God, this would have destroyed what he sought to accomplish. His death at the hands of the ANTICHRISTS. They perform the abomination that leaves them desolate. If he proclaimed himself the living god he would have to bring fire down from heaven to destroy the crazed mobs that would seek his life, and that of his followers. He needed to protect them for when he was gone. To reveal himself as God would thwart the concept of believing by faith and not sight. As we see he only revealed himself to his disciples after the resurrection, and we must all believe by faith without seeing. As Paul states,,, he is the one and only lord from heaven. The one Lord of the first command. Two of three it makes no difference, It still misses the point of the one God, who is one person, one entity, one being, who is the only savior as written in Isaiah. Those who teach oneness have it right. You have to be careful when reading the King James version, which I prefer, but keeping in mind that the hired group of scholars were all certainly Trinitarian. they have slanted many of the small word to their doctrinal preference. Go to Strongs and you will see many inconsistencies in translation. one example is the use of the word "the". In greek there is no definitive article before titles aor names. This is tru in many languages. Also there is no punctuation or capitalization. So I give you,,, "Grace and peace be unto you from God our father and Lord -Jesus Christ." "from" in italics!!!! Show us the father plainly and it suffices us,,,,,
What happens in the very first verses in the Bible? There are three. God who Speaks (hence the word) and the Spirit hovering over the deep bringing everything into being. All act together and cannot be separated. Words are a medium to convey intention and the Spirit gives understanding which leads to action. God's Words are later written down in the Torah given from God by the Spirit to Moses at Sinai. Every time God speaks there are words involved either audible or as God plants them in minds that are attuned to Him written down, but we must have His Spirit to understand and act on them. How can we have two Spirits from one God? That just confuses the issue and would make God a liar sometimes and hence undependable. Throughout the OT all men choose to ignore the Words of God, to follow their own ideas which gets them into serious trouble. The Pharisees added so many of their own words that God's intention was totally lost. God has prepared us by His Words of prophecy for His coming as a Man, this time to live out and show us by example what His intention was. In doing so we get to see graphically our rebellion and the outcome of our thinking and actions. We just did what we always do since Adam for as he disobeyed we can do no other. We question Him, then reject Him, give him false worship, corrupt His teaching so that He is unrecognisable and then put him to death. We may think that we have done away with the Creator. He simply won't stay dead. Though He may be dead to us through unbelief, it will be us who will ultimately pay the full price in our eternal death at judgement if we have not had faith that Jesus died in our place to win our desire to obey God. He died to save us and as a Man lives again to restore us by faith back to the Father's first intention in Eden. We see there a God who makes everything good and sees man as very good and the pinnacle of His creation, where there is a loving relationship and interdependence on God as a loving Father. The same unity that we see in the Triune God that cannot exist apart from each other. We now listen and follow God's Word given in written form and by example as the Man Jesus the Christ. He now lives and The Spirit is our help. The Spirit is sent to show us God's Word in Jesus life, death and resurrection. As in the book of Jonah when God's word comes to him the second time God's message has not changed. So simple a child can understand without complex theologies that just confuse and muddy the waters as satan did at the beginning. At the end of the day it is not our view of God that will save us but only Jesus' finished work on the cross. So who are we going to listen to.
Oh my God this was so very beautiful. Blessings to you Br. Brandon and yes in Him we are all new creations. Holy Spirit: the person in the Holy Trinity, the one with infinite wisdom has certainly imparted His wisdom to you. I pray that may many of us get such deep insights of Bible not to puff up our knowledge but to grow closer to God. Amen🙏

Hi, H A. By saying that John the Apostle could have been Jesus’ cousin according to scripture (i.e. the references I mention in the video), I wasn’t at all suggesting that John the Baptist wasn’t. It’s very likely that Jesus had many cousins 🙂

That's what the thumbnail is highlighting. But that is not intended to suggest that Jesus wasn't also related to John the Baptist.
@@MarinaGarrison did you watch the video? I'm pretty sure he's not confused that John the Baptist was his cousin. That's not what this video was about. It was more about John. The Apostle John is brother to James - Their father is identified in Scripture as Zebedee. John the Baptist is son of Zechariah and Elizabeth, and identified as Jesus' cousin. When you state that the Apostle John could have been Jesus' cousin, you are simply speculating. I rely on Scripture for authoritative statements - not man's speculation or wishful thinking.
I had to stop at 2:15 because I did the same exact thing before I was saved. Short version, I was raised Pentecostal and was a false Christian. I thought God should answer me and do what I said. My wife left me for another man so I prayed with tears that God would send balls of fire down on him. Praise God I no longer desire his death but his salvation. People tell me I'm too loving sometimes.
Pastor Brandon. Where in the Bible says that Jesus has siblings that did not believe in him. In minute 13:20? In the Chosen when Jesus was with his mother at her home eating bread something was mentioned about Jude and another name. Mary said they did not want to come because… and Jesus answered I understand. I don’t remember the exact words but it gave the impression 2 important people in Mary and Jesus life. Please explain in a video it is interesting to know. Thank you.
And…not everyone viewing your presentation was confused when you were talking about the possibility that Jesus and the Apostle John may very well have been cousins. I’m sorry some were, but I don’t think it resulted from any lack in the thoroughness of your presentation. Thanks again. Good job!
Thank you, Brandon, as I love how you give us so much awesome information about the apostles. I love thinking that John is Jesus’ cousin. That surely says so much about his relationship with Jesus!! ❤️
I sure do recognize the rage element of this and even more so as I am now many years into this life "thing" and with those years God, through Yeshua, has brought me to a place I would not have recognized or accepted in those earlier rageful years of my life. Very good video. Thank you. I think we may often under estimate the talents and qualities of those first Apostles. Very interesting video. 👌 I've heard more than one biblical Greek instructor say John's is not the most elevated Greek, but it's the best at communicating its message and that's what's important. Your video possibly tied a couple of pieces of information together. Thanks again.
I believe that John the Apostle is still alive somewhere .. Imagine that . It's bittersweet to him because he lost his entire family and everyone he knew. Yet .... He's been a witness to everything for over 2000 years. Just amazing 🤩🎉 I'd surely love to meet someone who has been a witness to Jesus and everything since then. I'm praying to God that I could meet him What a blessing that would be.🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏

Thank you so much for your thoughts and video. Yes, John the Apostle was the son of Zebedee and the younger brother of James, son of Zebedee (James the Greater. Their mother,Salome, was the sister of Mary, Jesus' mother, making Salome Jesus' aunt, and her sons John the Apostle and James were Jesus' cousins. John the Baptist was Jesus’ cousin. John’s mother,Elizabeth, was a codon of Jesus’ mother, Mary.
Thank you for the explanations and clarifying of the history of the time and how it impacts our understanding of the Bible and the lessons within. I do find it interesting that most people seem to relegate Mary as only having one sister, Elizabeth, and Jesus having only one cousin--John the Baptist. It's interesting to find that St. John and St. James could both be cousins of Jesus. It would certainly explain the close connection between them.
Thank you Brandon, I always love what you have to share. That makes so much sense that James and John could be Jesus’ cousins. The Holy Spirit is whispering it’s true

(Logos). 👍 I’m a 55 year old Christian from 35 years of Jesus and Calvary Chapel and the Holy Spirit helping me learn new things everyday. Glad to have the privilege to learn some new nuggets of wisdom from you as well. Thanks for your service. I will now finish binge watching The Chosen. Season one. We are also studying John at our Church, great info. Well done! 👍🤗🙏🏻
I thank God for finding Calvary Chapel. And with the power of the Holy Spirit, I have become a deeper Bible reader and sturdier. I thank God for Bob Davis, whom I follow at North Country Chapel in Idaho.
Yes! Thank you and I love you Jesus! he is coming back soon.
Thank You, May the Lord Jesus Christ Continue to Bless and protect you always amen amen Jesus Jesus Jesus
John was always my favorite apostle. Every understanding we have of the nature of the Lord comes from his testimony, first.
So happy and grateful to find your channel. English is not my first language, and your gift of communication are truly being used for God’s glory. Can’t wait to catch up in your content. May God keep blessing and using you my brother!
Thank you . Your videos are so insightful. Can't wait for more . Anthea Jbay South Africa 🇿🇦
I absolutely love what you teach. It’s like going into a Seminar.
Your commentary I believe is true and makes so much sense.
I enjoy listening to you, is uplifting, refreshing and so much to chew on!
Thank you and keep up!
Thank you! I'm so glad you're learning from it.
Very interesting. This episode inspired me to go to the Bible and read the gospel of John. Thank you, it was a wonderful message 🙏
Thanks!
Thank you so much for these videos, God bless you🙏❤
Yes, I need that transformation.
Here's another thought: It was Thomas who made the ultimate Christian confession of faith - 'My Lord and my God...' And it is recorded in John's gospel.
That first opening about love touch me deeply. Amein. I’m seeking to be changed.
Thank you for teaching about John the apostle. 🙏❤️
This short video has strengthened my faith terrificly.
God bless you.
every time Jesus says the words "I am" he is telling us who he is
Rosemary ... for your inspection... Isaiah, chapter 7, verse 14, and Isaiah, chapter 9, verse 6... our Messiah. Peace
Brando! We so appreciate these teachings on the Apostles. My home women's group wanted me to teach about the Apostles and your teachings are so helpful, so informative. Thank you!
Really interesting, thank you for putting this together so well!
Hey vihan😁
Thank you for expounding John the Apostle...thank you.
Over quite a few decades my wife and I have heard so many messages, including points about Biblical backgrounds that we might be tempted to think that we have already learned them all, but you always surprise us by pointing out something we had not heard before. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us all! It really helps to make well-rounded appreciation of the truths which are taught.
Seek and you will find. Thank-you for your hard work to bring this great message via your channel. It brings us closer to that small amount of time when the world was changed forever
I came across this channel by accident yesterday what amazing teaching very deep in the way I have never heard it before. Am so blessed thank you so much my dear brother in chirst. Is going to be my every day learning channel. God bless you abundantly
I love when accidents like that happen! I'm so glad it's blessing you!
I don't just like. I LOVE 💖 Ur videos. Thank you soooo much. 👌🙏 ☘️
Wow. I read the gospel of John so many times. Your video gave me so much insight.
And now I check to see what I may have missed from you Brandon. You have taught me so much. God Bless. Elaine
“The Word” may be a nod to Greek Stoic thought, but more certain is the this reference in the OT. The Word of the LORD is used to describe the visible Yahweh, who is the pre-incarnate Christ in the OT. John knew his OT.
Great video, thank you. We are studying John for the next 3 months
Enjoyed listening to you. Your gift of being able to teach is a blessing to all of us ty
Love this teaching. Thank you.
Another interesting fact; John was the only disciple that died of old age.
Jesus told Peter that John would die an old man.
"If I want him to remain until I come [again], what is that to you? You follow me!"
@@sherryjohnson449 Dear Sherry with respect no he did not. Peter told the Disciple Jesus Loved that and that Disciple was Lazarus the one Jesus resurrected. Now the Question is this? Who was that Disciple and was he the Apostle John Zebedee. When you find the answer to the Question you will know who the authors of the Revelation are. And it is not John Zebedee. Grace to you my Sister.
No mention of wife or children?
@@jamessikes6700 Peter was speaking to the Lord of John , not Lazarus - Lazarus was not present ; and Jesus told Peter it wasn't any of Peters business as to Johns future .
And Sherry was correct , John was the only one of the disciples to live to old age ; the rest of the disciples were dead by the late 70's .
@@jamessikes6700 really , authors to Revelation , when there is only one writer mentioned and that being : John son of Zebedee , the Beloved Disciple John the Elder and , Head of the 7 congregations of Asia .
Brandon. Thank you so much for the good video about the apostles and who they were. It was great!
Wonderful insights! God bless you for taking time to research & do these videos. Scripture is filled with hidden gems! "Seek & you shall find."
I love the gospel of John,, and guess St. John is my top list of all the saints. God bls us all,, 😍😇🙏
I'm happy to hear you bring out some things about an episode that I missed or didn't no KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. Thank you and God Bless all your good work.
Awesome, Brandon!
He is God...He said if you have seen me, you have seen the father
☑ good insights thank you ❗
Apostle John is my favorite Bible writer ; God bless All who hear ✝️ 🙏
Oh my God this was so very beautiful. Blessings to you Br. Brandon and yes in Him we are all new creations. Holy Spirit: the person in the Holy Trinity, the one with infinite wisdom has certainly imparted His wisdom to you. I'm so glad! Thank you, Sheridan!
John the Baptist might have been Jesus' cousin
So glad I found this. THANK you.....
Amen!
John the Baptist is Jesus cousin not John the apostle. . Elizabeth (John the baptist's mother) is cousin to Mary.
Hi, H A.
By saying that John the Apostle could have been Jesus’ cousin according to scripture (i.e. the references I mention in the video), I wasn’t at all suggesting that John the Baptist wasn’t.
It’s very likely that Jesus had many cousins 🙂
@@BrandonRobbinsMinistry seems like you were completely confused and now won’t admit your error? Or was this clickbait? John the Baptist is Jesus cousin, not john the apostle. Two separate people.
@@MarinaGarrison Hi, Marina. There's no confusion. One of the points in the video is that there are scriptures that suggest that John the Apostle and Jesus could have been cousins.
Yes the thumbnail was a bit of click bait cause who ever heard the apostle was a cousin also? But the info shared is intriguing and could be the case.
This is my first time watching, I really enjoyed and understood everything said. It was great to get that extra knowledge. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the word.. It has helped me as I am just starting to teach the Gospel of John in our church! Bless you!
Well, Brandon, you hit the nail right on my head!!! I feel like John had a very loving and giving spirit! GOOD WORK!!! KEEP IT UP!!!
Thank you, Kathy!
Thank you.
Love your explanations, they bring so much clarity to incidental phrases, often overlooked or confusing! Thank you!😊💖
That's great! I'm so glad that they're helpful!
One thing though, I have always thought that John and James were brothers. So thank you for sharing such profound findings, God bless you.
Love your teaching
John is a Fisher of men.
Thank you
And…not everyone viewing your presentation was confused when you were talking about the possibility that Jesus and the Apostle John may very well have been cousins. I’m sorry some were, but I don’t think it resulted from any lack in the thoroughness of your presentation.
Thanks again.
Good job!
thanks brother
Thank you, Brandon, as I love how you give us so much awesome information about the apostles. I love thinking that John is Jesus’ cousin. That surely says so much about his relationship with Jesus!! ❤️
I sure do recognize the rage element of this and even more so as I am now many years into this life "thing" and with those years God, through Yeshua, has brought me to a place I would not have recognized or accepted in those earlier rageful years of my life. Love is good, good is love. God is that author.
Thank you, I have been learning so much from you. Straightening out my confusion❤
I shouldn’t had stated an earlier note and listen before I made a comment, I pray God forgive me, but I praise GOD through JESUS CHRIST for the wisdom that He has given you. I want to Hunger more for God.
Thank you and may God Bless You, Your family, and the staff of the Chosen Productions.
No hard feelings :-)
Very good video. Thank you. I think we may often under estimate the talents and qualities of those first Apostles. Very interesting video. 👌 I've heard more than one biblical Greek instructor say John's is not the most elevated Greek, but it's the best at communicating its message and that's what's important. Your video possibly tied a couple of pieces of information together. Thanks again.
Thank you always for enlightening us, God bless you.
This was surprisingly interesting. Excellent, and edifying.
Thankyu Brother
I love your explanations and teachings. You seemed to really dive into scripture. Thank you so much for your ministry🙏
I believe that John the Apostle is still alive somewhere ..
Imagine that .
It's bittersweet to him because he lost his entire family and everyone he knew.
Yet ....
He's been a witness to everything for over 2000 years.
Just amazing 🤩🎉
I'd surely love to meet someone who has been a witness to Jesus and everything since then.
I'm praying to God that I could meet him
What a blessing that would be.🙏♥️🙏♥️🙏
Loved this, Brandon!/Brother Robbins! So appreciate your preparation and your great spirit and making of this video, so grateful for your research and study! Really felt the spirit!
Fabulous insights, true?,verifiable?, circumstantial?, maybe, but insightful! Definitely! I love these posts!
A great lesson indeed. Thank you.
Thank you Brandon.
God bless you.
Thank you Brandon, I always love what you have to share. That makes so much sense that James and John could be Jesus’ cousins. The Holy Spirit is whispering it’s true

I truly appreciate your videos. I love how you connect the emotional parts of the Gospels with the historical facts. Makes the Scriptures come more alive!
You are fantastic
When you talked about Zebedee I remembered about The Chosen S1E4
