Yes, indeed. I understand men evacuating from a wildfire to save life over property. But if the firefighters can’t or won’t do the job, men have to do something to protect what’s theirs. I guess it hits different when you’re saving something that your parents built; it’s your lifelong home; and the alternative is being old and homeless.

Imagine if more people were like this man, MANY more houses would have been saved. We're on our own folks, the government isn't going to save us. With thousands of homes the fire department couldn't be everywhere. Also with the fire department not in the area using up the majority of the water, he was able to keep enough water pressure to wet down his home. If more people would have stayed there would have been less water to go around and would have really dropped the amount of water pressure he had.

Good to see an interview with a property owner of a regular house, rather than mansions, in the Palisades. I grew up in the Palisades/Brentwood area. Not everyone lives in luxurious mansions. There are apartment buildings, small old houses, medium old houses and, yes, large luxurious houses. The area is beautiful, lying between the ocean and the hills/Santa Monica Mtns. Lots of canyons, some still undeveloped. Spectacular location drives up property prices. Kudos to this man for his focus and determination! Strong and brave.
And if he’d been burnt to death he’d be a fool now seen as an idiot who wouldn’t listen to good sense. And where were those fire trucks that could have saved the day? They were cut off from getting through by walls of fire,or busy saving the day for another group of houses in that massive area of inferno. Yes, it is undoubtedly the government’s fault.
This a perfect example of the men who envisioned, built and defended this country. Quiet stoicism, incredible resolve and humble, he is what every American man should strive to be.
Exactly how I’ve raised my two boys……like MEN. It’s practically a lost trait nowadays. (Boys becoming real men) The one thing that stands out when I think of my sons is, they both respect me and I respect them. I’m proud I was firm and stern because I raised two men who know how to treat a lady, protect her, love their mother, and would do their very best to immolate a man like this with class and pride as Men. It’s men like this gentleman that joined the armed forces in WWI & WWII and others to protect and build this country and I am SO VERY VERY GRATEFUL FOR MEN LIKE HIM. God Bless him. Well, this country was built by slaves...but yeah, this dude is a trooper for his house and neighbors. You should never listen to the government and always try to save your house. Every time someone tries to save the house with a hose it's the only one that gets saved. When the big fires were coming in NorCal we put sprinklers on the roof.
The bravery and determination of this Palisades resident are truly remarkable! Staying behind to protect his home is an incredible act of resilience. Wishing him and all others affected by the fire safety and recovery during these challenging times.

I actually don't understand why so few people stayed and fight for their houses. Are those all their 2nd, 3rd homes? Or are they really expecting the insurance company would take the bullet and pay for all these?
Various codes and laws will make it impossible for many if not most of those people to rebuild without significant assistance, even for those with insurance.

A retired fire fighter did the same in Camarillo when they had the Mountain fire back in November. He had a back pump for his pool, and was put there putting out anything that caught. It was a small dead end street so he unfortunately couldnt reach the furthest house and it was the only one that burned down out of 10 on the street
What a courageous strong man! He took matters into his own hands and beat the odds. He believed in himself and conquered. I wish you nothing but peace and wellness sir.
Just because you believe in yourself doesn't mean you get the happily ever after ending. It's actually terrible advice for people who wish to be the brave 'tough guy' and just end up injured or killed, and have emergency services put in danger trying to rescue them.
If everyone would have done this……. He said that there were embers not fire. But because there was no water…. Amazing! He’s an hero….. don’t make them like that anymore. Not 1 home but 3. One man!!!!!
During the subsequent Sunset fire a lot of apartment tenants and home owners did just that, ran around with hoses spotting embers and putting them out and apparently it worked. If I had a pool I'd 100% have a small gas/diesel generator running to a pump and just soak the living shit out of every and anything. There's TOO MANY examples of this working at this point for the Nanny State people to say "you should leave it to firefighters" ... no, because they get overwhelmed, your house is not a specific priority, and you should be allowed to take risks and try to save something if it's worth the risk to you.

No where is a better example of what he says ( squirting a little water on a small fire/embers before it got bigger ) more obvious than the stretch of waterfront homes on PCH, the ones right on the beach. No way that fire came across the highway, so they all burned down--million dollar homes due to wind blown embers finding a source and no one there with a water hose to tamp it out.
He sounds VERY pragmatic and, after weighing all the factors, determined it was worth the very real risk of it ultimately costing his life. Like that saying goes, "not all heroes wear capes" in this case, they wear caps 🙂
I believe him 100%. My dad just went through a similar situation but instead of a house he had to protect an entire citrus ranch during the mountain fire in November in VC. He said had he not turned on the sprinklers and hosed down the brush, the entire ranch + his mobile home would have been gone. I asked him if crews ever showed up to help, he said yes but it was too late - he had already put out the fire. I was pissed that my dad put his life on the line but grateful he's okay. Sometimes older generations know they can't rely on others and need to take action themselves
Friends of mine who live in theOregon woods saved their own place, quite a bit of acreage, when the Oregon fires raged through a couple years ago. They were ordered to leave. He and his neighbor/friend knew it was to let the places burn. They said, 'no thank you'. Stayed there and used their own well water and their earth moving equipment which was part of their forest operation. They saved two places in the forest, with acreage, because they stayed and fought.
This is so true. Their values and instincts are things we are poorly lacking today and we suffer for it. We need more people like this guy because it makes a difference.
they key here is that your dad had water to being able to keep the sprinklers on. The issue with the LA fire is that so many areas had water cut off when the fire got too big because CA is a dessert and we are in a drought so the fire dept had priority. This man in the video got lucky that his water source was not cut off, he would've died for sure.
@@jaqui1401 He had a pool and a lot of commons sense. That area is not a desert, it was full of vegetation that burnt. Being a mediterranean climate winters are often dry. Newson rejected Trumps plan to build a pipe line to bring water down from Washington and even Canada. The hydrants had no water; that was planned.
No there are quite a lot who have courage, but the others were burned alive, look it up, there are plenty who tried and failed. I commend him for his actions but he was lucky

This is the spirit of what Ben Franklin did in creating the first fire departments -- which were volunteer departments. Franklin saw the need for people to just help one another in times of need. Here's a modern-day example of just how effective that can be. In these days of rampant corruption, putting faith in government is a dicey proposition at best. Bless this man. His parents are looking down on him, as proud as can be, not only for saving their earthly home, but for doing so for his neighbors. Not only was his heart in the right place, but his resolve was up to the task. In other words, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. This is one tough man.

Yes, indeed. I understand men evacuating from a wildfire to save life over property. But if the firefighters can’t or won’t do the job, men have to do something to protect what’s theirs. With thousands of homes the fire department couldn't be everywhere. Also with the fire department not in the area using up the majority of the water, he was able to keep enough water pressure to wet down his home.

@@kjohn0347 maybe the water for fire hydrants doesn't run on the same system as water for civilian uses?

ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW!
Well his generation is where everything can be repaired attitude.
they key here is that your dad had water to being able to keep the sprinklers on.
