After 20 years of bureaucratic delay, Fresno finally passed a ban on agricultural burning, which allowed these farmers to burn their agricultural waste, putting millions of tons of CO2 into the air and smoke and chemical particulate matter, which was a major cause of respiratory diseases like asthma, and is partly the reason why the central valley has some of the worst air in the world. The greed of the farmers living in Beverly hills had no concern about poisoning residents in the central valley
Why would they? To have such concern, you must yourself have a conscience. A sense of morality. Did.. you.. Assume these people had any of that or what?
Born and raised in Fresno, grandparents came when it was the agricultural haven of the world. As soon as I left from there, my respiratory system improved dramatically. California used to be a wonderful, abundant, inclusive place for those who sought the American dream. Thanks to those like Resnicks, we've suffered, lost and moved from the hellscape they turned it into.
CV air is terrible for these reasons, AND millions of trucks on I-5, and the valley being a nearly closed, warm system with no rain for half the year. Even if all ag burning was stopped, they still will have high PM 2.5, which keeps them high on bad air quality rankings. The only tools left in the toolbox are: create more rain most of the year (very unlikely), and control emissions from I-5 (challenging). Therefore we have the new electric vehicle laws, which will likely be overturned.

They depleted a very nice lake in the mid to southern part of California. They destroyed all natural habitat around the lake. No one said a word. I could not find how the Resnicks came to own the water rights. They and some state officials met one day and by the end of the meeting, the Resnicks owned the water rights and government equipment paid for by citizens to run the water system. The system equipment was given to them without charge. They are supplied with water by several rivers. These rivers are operating over capacity and are diminishing rapidly. When they dry up, and they will at this pace, there is only saltwater left. You have a potentially serious problem in the short distance future. Let me ask this.. if there is competition for the water, and there is due to diminishing water levels, who wins.. LA or the Resnicks?
The Resnicks and LA/California are in competition for the same water. All of the rivers that feed the water supply are diminishing. They are way over capacity and cannot last at this pace.. who will use less water.. LA or the Resnicks? Rivers and lakes across the planet are drying up. The lakes and rivers in desert dry areas will dry more quickly. You in the western 1/3 of the US are looking at serious problems. The Resnicks water being openly situated is evaporating faster than what you can imagine. The system is working against all of you. I am pretty sure that our current wars have a lot to do with serious water shortage.

Note: Pistachios doesn’t need that much water if it is planted in its native soil; in Iran, they even plant it in the cities near to the desert and that’s probably the reason why they could falsely convince people that it works for CA too; but people don’t realize this big miscalculation that Iran has a very special climate, it is a plateau, even those desert cities are in altitude of hundreds meter; totally different stories; P trees in CA adapted themselves with easier climate and now stealing water from the soil
Well said! It takes more than an ideal growing zone to match appropriate growing locations. I also know the monoculture habit is notoriously problematic. Should Iran or Turkey attempt to cover every inch of arable land into pistachio production, they will harm themselves in the process as surely as the Reznick's are harming themselves and the region. Diversity saves farms for generations to come. Monoculture farming is only as good as the commodity market rewards them for destructive habits forever at war with soil health in extraction economic schemes.
I was watching video of pistachio trees growing near Syrian border with turkey in an area that looked semi arid and dry i noticed they were short too, so I was surprised to see in this video that they are huge in America..explains why it needs all that water.
@sunshineseaandvitamind8620 the read I got about them in comparison- the cali variety have a life span of 50-80 yrs but the middle eastern ones in Iran can live up to 300 years. Very impressive. The cali ones may have been grafted to another tree variety for maximum yields. Not sure what else would explain the huge disparity in life spans.

Morocco could stand to impose taxes on excessive water use. What rate of taxation and what volume of water defines that tax is for politicians to concoct. It may even be in their interest to outright ban certain species of plants from being introduced in large numbers to get around the complicated math of taxes. Importing mimosa, bamboo and eucalyptus saw pretty severe consequences for the region. Just a few ideas.

"The problem is Capitalism itself"? No, the problem is hyper-capitalism which is an extreme form of capitalism that prioritizes profit at all costs, disregarding social and environmental well-being.
We've been having these arguments for well over 2 centuries now. We articulated in law where the problem lies when we prohibited monopolistic practices. Since then we've had steady erosion of what was a safeguard for all parties involved. The force that continues to destroy healthy versions of capitalism in favor of destructive & negatively competing capitalism needs a name all it's own.
No guys, you're just so ideologically conditioned, and for so long North American settlers (since the depression) have been insulated from capitalism's realities, that you can't fathom capitalism itself being the problem. There is no such thing as "hyper" capitalism.
@@HeavenlyEchoVirus The term 'hypercapitalism' has appeared in academic, journalistic, and philosophical discussions. Robert Reich, a former U.S. Secretary of Labor and economist, referenced it in his book The Work of Nations (1991). Sociologists and political theorists like David Harvey and Naomi Klein have also explored related ideas in their critiques of neoliberal capitalism. Therefore, when you say, "There is no such thing as 'hyper capitalism,' it seems you are either mistaken or being intellectually dishonest.
@wlliamblack313 i would critique all of those authors for employing an obscurantist term. Rhetorically it's powerful to argue for social programs, but it conceals the real nature of capitalism's history, and is entrenched in the perspectives of living-standards for the imperial core. Even neoliberalism, though such a popular term and spoken of as a novel intervention, is just standard liberal capitalism. The economics of the welfare state era, motivated largely by the threat of socialist revolution, are not the "good" version of properly regulated capitalism, but the consequence of a rival mode of production that required workers in the core to have better living standards so they wouldn't follow the path of the USSR
California has refused to address their growing water shortage issues. There are irrigation solutions with the use of desalination plants, sprinkler systems that can be attached to electrical poles to keep the surrounding landscape watered, reusing waste water after cleansing for land hydration..... This draught problem has been going on for decades. There are solutions that the state simply refuses to implement. What exactly are the exorbitant taxes that the state charges used for??? That's the real question. Proper irrigation technology has been around for over 10 thousand years.... surely California is at least as intelligent as people were 10 thousand years ago!🙄 To do nothing to address a problem, and expect a different outcome year after year, is the very definition of insanity.
Well, since Ronnie started the big push to deregulate and cut budgets, there have been a lot more billionaires all of a sudden. Do you think there's a connection? Appreciate your well-reasoned comments. When we lived in CA, I remember as homeowners, we had to keep all of the chaparral trimmed way down to prevent fire spread. I thought that was still in force.
@@ritamariekelley4077 it is and many other water saving techniques implemented since. The problem being the law is favoring agricultural output has a higher priority over human life. Not unlike coal companies vs West Virginians. I mean, I suppose a science fiction Dune remedy could be inflicted on all residents of LA as a term and condition of their existence, but why should they have to when the abuse of water rights is quite clearly happening with crops that do not belong in drought prone areas?
Is any of the people with comments, are you FARMERS? Until you become a farmer you'll understand the importance of water. Maybe you should talk to Newsome why millions of gallons of water are going to the ocean.
Pardon me, farmers do not live in a bubble, much as they want to believe. Their practices do have numerous consequences for others, including the last considered indigenous wildlife. I think you know as well as I do why flood waters were going into the ocean, and that saved some farms & lots of homes from being outright destroyed too, didn't it? I 100% agree these atmospheric rivers could stand to be directed to depleted aquifers and places like Lake Mead. The infrastructure is absent because some of these large scale farming ambitions are leaning on systems not designed to carry them. The shortages downstream are also a problem. So lets take a good hard look at water management designs, and especially, how much that is going to cost. A regional system is a massive undertaking and not just pertaining to a single large state. You blame Newsome and from where I stand, I see the Senate obliged to pony up the cash or refund California all it's federal monies so it can invest in itself as it should. This problem goes far beyond Newsome's job as Governor for a dozen reasons. Even half a dozen Governors working together will still need federal support to get these problems addressed, and projects this size won't be done in an election cycle or two.
While consumer boycotts are good it's also important to remember that the US is a federated system where much of these kinds of resources are controlled at the state level. It's our responsibility to learn about how these things work in our individual states if we want to effectively fight these people and win control over the resources that should belong to everyone.

Crony capitalism is most certainly a problem. The problem being it so easily masks itself as legitimate capitalism. Time to legally parse the two. That starts by articulating the aspects of negative competition.
capitalism is literally the problem. capitalism is worldwide. america is far from the only country facing these exact problems. capitalism is actually what's allowing the oligarchs we have here to use their money and power to exploit entire other countries. yes, i'd say most people are mad at capitalism itself, even if they haven't completely identified the root of the problem just yet. we in the west would likely all benefit from a milder form of capitalism, but it would necessitate the exploitation of other nations.
@idontwannahostthisshownomore I respectfully disagree. Central Banks, central bank money creation, unsound money and corruption is the problem common to almost all countries and this money control problem finances every evil in the world today. The Bible called it: "Usury."

@@Stephen64138this is deeply true. Without conscience and morality you’re permitted destroy the “other”.

They should pay for water if they use it for production.
"The problem is Capitalism itself"?
No, the problem is hyper-capitalism which is an extreme form of capitalism that prioritizes profit at all costs, disregarding social and environmental well-being.
WHAT WILLIAM SAID☝️☝️☝️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
When I see the Reznick, I don’t know why, Sam Peckinpah’s movie ”Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia ” comes to mind.

@@ritamariekelley4077 it is and many other water saving techniques implemented since. The problem being the law is favoring agricultural output has a higher priority over human life. Not unlike coal companies vs West Virginians.
Thank you BT News, for exposing them.
