Pretty cool to see you an Danny doing some RUclips content. Should do more.
Suggestion or idea here, Maybe include your sponsors in some of the content with showing there businesses an what they do, to give them some more exposure or spotlight. Just an idea.
Hopefully you guys had a very Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year. Can’t wait for next season to start. Let’s go racing. Take care guys and stay safe.
Thanks you too
My family use to be and still is involved with sprint car racing as my cousin chase races a 410 as you probably know and my dad use to race a 600 mc at trailways but we know drag race and I find it interesting what goes on outside the racetrack good work billy ❤️
Good stuff guys.
Wish you both a safe and winning 2023 racing season. ✌
Thank you
I thought Doug Wolfgang designed a fuel shut off for fire suppression after he got burned really bad ?
Love the content. Thanks for the helpful video
I understand the intent of the fire system, but I feel there are more legitimate issues to address. First and foremost in my mind is the tracks. We need to get rid of the blunt openings and places where momentum can be abruptly stopped. More times than not when a car can roll and flip losing it's energy progressively driver's are ok. These type of wrecks look insane but more times than not the driver comes out AOK. The scary ones to me are the wrecks where a car stops immediately due to them hitting something solid. Solid objects like hitting a blunt opening in a concrete wall, coming down on something like the top of a wall which doesn't have a fence, hitting a steel billboard, tearing through a fence and directly hitting one of the fence posts, hitting the ground flush after going airborne, and so on. Racers are gonna wreck. It's gonna happen regardless of whether we want to talk about it or not. The tracks have things they can do too. They need to update their configurations where reasonable.
If we absolutely need to do something to the car I wonder if we can address all the compression fractures we've been having in all forms of motorsports in the last 10 or so years. To me is a bigger deal, more chronic deal than fire at the moment. I won't claim to even know what to look at to fix the problem but what I do know is over the last 10 or so years there have been over a dozen sprint car drivers in the country that have been sidelined or forced to retire from back injuries whether it be 305, 358, 360, or 410. I know the seat pads and seats have done alot in this area, but I would hope there is alot more we can do. I'm not attempting to diminish the risk of a fire because they can be damned scary and hurt you bad, ask Harley White.
When we are talking local racing like sprint cars we have to keep things like money foremost in our minds. Many of the guys/gals that come out and race for us fans every weekend outfitting a car is a tough prospect. I view something like a fire extinguisher as a consumable. You can't update or rebuild it and if it's a proper fire suppression system it has a expiration. You most likely won't be able find anything used. What happens when a bottle goes off? Is the bottle refillable by folks that re-certify fire extinguishers? It's kinda like selling used seatbelts. Nothing but liability there.
Thanks for the comment and you have some great points/ideas. Not sure if your a local fan but I do know “some” of our tracks have made changes to the openings and abrupt objects at the tracks. Unfortunately these changes come after we learn the hard way. I also know that a lot of these tracks country wide are not in a financial position to make big changes to their facilities. It’s a tough situation and I don’t have a answer. Safety should always be the priority but sometimes it gets lost until something happens.
I’ve also noticed the rise of neck/back injuries and I’m not sure why. There’s been a few safety changes over the years and that’s kinda when noticed it, not saying it’s related. Head and neck restraint and full containment seats. I’m thankful for these improvements like I said in video. My only comparison is racing prior to these changes, crash, bent seat sore stiff body / neck but everything could give or stretch. Now everything is made to not be forgiving, driver doesn’t move much. Could that have something to do with it? I don’t know.
Good luck next year. Besafe
thanks , as a fan in the stands i rarely get to see the cars close up.
all simpson belts are either december or june
Enjoy the videos and channel Billy
Great video on things that a lot of people don't take serious enough or believe it won't happen to them. I was at the Kings Royal when Brady Doty was injured and if some of the safety features were around back then he might not be in the position he is today.
I think a lot of extra cost goes into safety, but if something bad happens can that person whether owner or family member feel like if they would of had a certain safety measure in there would it of helped and worry about that the rest of their lives.
I do agree that the teams, drivers, owners aren't the only ones that should be looking at these deals, but the tracks as well. Yes, a lot of them aren't making a lot of money they say, but do they want the issues with insurance company or a bad reputation of something bad happening at their track.
Sprint car racing is a dangerous sport, but the safer we make it the better and I believe we as a entire dirt track racing community should put feedback into it. Also people shouldn't be saying well it never happened or it was a fluke deal ... we should be saying what could possibly happen and how to correct it from happening. If that means taller fences with cables being taller and above the guard rails, rounding off edges of walls/safety barriers, better lighting, stands pushed back away from the fences, some type of barriers on the inside whenever safety or fans are in the infield -- we just saw the flagman hit at the Tulsa shootout and that could have been easily prevented and still hasn't been changed with barriers or a flag stand behind a barrier.
I have ran a 1968 Classis SuperMod, Australian style for near 30 years so forerunner to a Sprintcar. Steering pitman arm, draglink are a given in steel. Radius arms? Alloy is strong enough and bends before the pickup points. Heim joints? I always use chrome moly,, alloy are too weak. Front axle tethers?? AFAIK they are not using them here on modern cars. But with moly rod ends axles should not fall out. Outlaw guys push light to stupidity. I had a blew one night with a leading driver,, he told me I was stupid,, his light shit broke halfway through the feature when he was in a good position. No crash, just the bumps. Following event he broke the dumb bonnet clip holding the shock on and then crashed. Shocks should bve bolted on tight with proper bolts,,Ti is ok but not drilled ti
That 'new' bar was mandatory on Supermods in the 60s!! And yes I have seen cages bend too far in that area.
Belts? In my case maybe 6 events a year and the belts are 6-8 months old when you buy them. So commonsense should prevail. Hans belts?? Are those shopulder straps as strong as 3"? I doubt it. Not a fan of Hans at all. Simple neckbrace is all that is required,, especially with a containment seat. Which are excellent BUT do not fit in some chassis unless you are under 5 foot tall! Even with older style seats I do not fit in many chassis as I am too tall,, at 6'1 and a 100kg
I am primarily a road racer and containment seats have been around for 20 years,, And shoulder support seats for a lot longer than that.
Fire extinguishers,, a sore point for many in road racing,, have to be fitted. I have had them come loose in the car twice,, one went off. Bloody dangeropus. A well known racer had one hit him in the face. Subsequently behind the seat with a couple of zip ties holding it too the bracket. After scrutineering. Here in Oz our tracks are generally, Now, well seviced with fire crew. Roadracing always. Unlike the cowboy tracks in the US that would never get a track licence here in Oz. Some of those tracks are really suicidal to run at!
Lots of good information in your post. Rules/laws are way different in the OZ. It’s definitely a running debate on which equipment should be mandatory, steel, alloy, Molly, fire protection and so on. Some changes are needed but some I don’t see the benefit other possible benefits of some sort of kickback to someone. Not the racers! Also the world of outlaws should have their own fire safety system/team that travels with them. Most of the tracks in central PA are equipped. I’m sure not every track they go to isn’t.
I'd think by now, almost 2023, they could come up with a suppression system specifically for Sprint Cars. That looks like a accident waiting to happen; I'm for it but not a great design.
I agree 💯. Seems like they could of done a better job being prepared before implementing this rule.
Awesome video guys! Hope you and Danny have a great and safe 2023 race season!
Thank you
Local Central pa racers be like….. Tether cables, fire suppression, full containment seats! Jesus what’s next fenders and starters ?🤣🤣🤣
Exactly 😂😂 enough already
I like the tech stuff, cheers fellas 👏
Thank you!!
Love seeing you getting Danny in your videos I lost my sister when I was 17 an she was 5 years older then me an let’s be honest I miss my sister an best friend an it’s good to see two brothers best friends an the relationship you guys both have! Can’t wait for the ice breaker Billy an Danny let the winter end now for some 410 racing to be here …,
I am looking for a seat for my roller what seat do you think or like the best and for the price
Ice breaker is right around the corner. Kirkey or ultra shield is my suggestion. We have used both and sell both at our shop. Let us know if we can help!!
I like the way the ultrashield feels but everyone keeps saying get a butler but I haven’t sat in any butler seats wonder what you like an what is the most common seats you see
How many teams are going to get to a track only to open the trailer & find extinguishment all over hahahha. This is going to happen unless the teams unmount the bottles. This is such a bad bad idea by WoO. So bad & they will make themselves look foolish this year 100% guaranteed as bottles will inadvertently go off
It’s kind of ironic that he’s complaining about $750 for a fire suppression system and spends $40,000+ on a motor? 😂. Gotta love race car drivers. Enjoyed the informational vids.
Fire suppression systems on the least likey part of the car to catch on fire in a 2023 sprint car . Busted Tail tanks & break pad sparks = 🔥
If you knew how much the payout was at the track you would understand. These guys/gals couldn't race if they didn't have awesome sponsors they have. They sure as hell wouldn't be able to afford it via the purse money alone.
Weather or not it was his opinion and you factor in it's a rule it takes a professional drivers wright away to have it or not.!!!
Thanks for watching!! Speaking on my behalf not Danny’s, for me it’s yet to be determined if I want to invest the $$ in the fire suppression system for 2 races a season. Obviously for other teams that plan to race alot more with the outlaws it’s not even an option. As the saying always goes more rules more money spent. 🤷🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️
@@billydietrich you both are great at what u do good to see u both hope the best for you guys this season .keep on racing yeah boys
Good stuff!
How come you don't see drivers wearing arm restraints anymore?
I’m not sure. Tracks don’t make it mandatory. One thing I struggle with is hooking up my HANS device while I’m strapped in car with arm restraints on.
Hope Danny takes you guys along to race eldora million
Well I don’t think that’s going to happen, we’ll be racing here that weekend I’m sure.
Thanks for the video! I'm a member of the Eagle Raceway Tow Crew. We work hand in hand with our safety crew to respond to on track incidents so I'm often the first one to a car after a wreck. We run RaceSaver Sprints weekly and they've had the option to run a fire suppression system for the entire time we've had them. Many of the racers have them installed for the weight break it gives them in the rules. I've yet to see one go off accidentally either from heat or snagging the cable. Also I'd like to suggest mounting the release on the left side of the seat in a location that the driver can still reach easily (maybe by the head rest?), but also makes it more accessible to a first responder. We had one racer do that here several years ago and it looked like it would work very well for either racer or first responder to activate the system.
I'm going to share this to our private crew page to help educate some of our younger members on the safety features as well as the front end parts of a Sprint Car, and I'm going to pass it along to our safety crew as well. If you're so inclined give us a look and a like on FB at The Tow Crew by Auto Connection and Four Corners Fire and Safety.
Best of Luck to both Billy and Danny this season. Take a racing vacation and head out this way in early June. We'll have the Hi-Limit series at Eagle on Tuesday June 6.
brother working together awesome. have a year full of up on the blocks guys thanks.
Great video !! Big change in sprint car chassis and seat !! It big difference that I use to have sprint back in the 80's wow !
Cool Video Man! Loved the Info on Safety in the Sprint Car World, think World of Outlaws needs to figure a way to make things cheaper
Keep Up the Good Work 🤙
5:23 No negative side to running tethers? Really?
Can't a front-end tether fool a driver into thinking front end is okay, when in fact something broke?
Isn't that why Logan Sweetheart went heling down the backstretch one front wheel straight, the other cocked out @ 45-degree angle. Then slammed head-first into the Grove's turn 3 wall? He didn't run worth a shit for weeks after that crash.
Hey is Danny goin to Florida to race or vacation if he is racing lmk where he will be running
Really liking the blue car body Billy ❗AWESOME video with all the explanations! 👍🙂
Thanks. That’s Danny car. The 8 car will have a different look in 2023 as well
@@billydietrich ahh. Blue is my favorite color. Lol. Can't wait to see your new look. Really like your content❗🙂
Can’t wait till the season starts wildman …. Lol I’ll deff be at the ice breaker so I’ll deff see ya an finnaly get to see you an meet after talking back an fourth on RUclips get to see the face of who you have been talking to and hopefully if you don’t mind me there hanging out an learning more tricks of the track and if you need a hand don’t be afraid to ask me I’d love to help out an get a hands on experience like I said I ran micro when I was a teen so I know how to turn wrenches an groove tires lol !
If a extinguisher goes off accidentally…how much time to replace the bottle? Sort of looks like the seat would have to be removed…
DD's year started off unlucky because he is a Buckeyes fan and they choked a 14 point lead in the 4th quarter and lost to Georgia by 1 point. Bet DD was pissed watching the 4th quarter of that game. The Buckeyes had it but blew it.
No doubt about it
@Billy Dietrich curious to see the changes in your competition. We already saw the changes for John Trone racing at the end of the 2022 season with Chase Dietz goin. Heard that Chase Dietz is running his own family team this year so we will see if that is true very soon. The biggest rumor for the off season is with Anthony Macri and Logan Wagner. Hear rumors that Anthony Macri might not be with his family owned team and possibly race for one of these mega millions owned race teams with Kasey Kahne as the possible team. The other major rumor is that Zemco racing is calling it quits and that Logan Wagner is moving to the Anthony Macri family owned team. People are saying that even of Anthony Macri stays with his family owned team instead of taking a ride with a mega multi millionaire WOO team that both he and Logan Wagner are racing for the Macri family team. Sounds like Logan Wagner is going to team Macri no matter what but who knows with Anthony Macri himself. Haven't heard anything officially yet. We will find out very soon because racing will start soon in the south for the ASCOC and WOO and late February at Lincoln Speedway.
@Billy Dietrich here is the video about Zemco racing ruclips.net/video/W9v13ZznxzY/видео.html
❤❤❤
where is your brake and throttle mounted . do you have a brake bias adjuster. does your wing work incon juction with your throttle if so how. thank you
As a sprint car fan I have always felt safe in the stand seating. An occasional clod of clay dropping except one night at the 'Grove a visiting 410 broke a front axle 1/3 right/2/3 left exiting turn 4, the front dropped while the frame dug in. (May have lost the a right wheel to start the event). Clearing the catch fence axle stub with hub landed mid point (length & height) in the front grandstand seats while the remaining 2/3 with hub, rim and tire skated on the walkway handrail to the halfway point.
A rare occurrence but I think the teather features are a positive safety measure. Some track's catch fences aren't as high or sturdy as the 'Groves.
Push Truck (Hosehead & shotgun 1 yr in the Meadowbrook)
I remember that happening at the grove. Luckily not one person injured in stands.
Is there a way to put a safety pin in that system? That way you wouldn't blow your $$$foam while you were working on the car, getting in and out, etc.. Hook it to the shifter lever? Was a weekender in the Vt ANG and always checked for that F-16 seat safety pin! The thought of riding the seat up into the ceiling trusses and through the roof.... WillyB
What’s up Wild WillyB 😆😆
Fuckiing Rooster and Colt lol
Hey Billy quick question how hard is it to get a sponsor or sponsorship ? Also when you get a sponsor how much do they help and what do they contribute towards a race team? I was thinking a good video for you to do also is to have a Q and A from subscribers with just you sitting there goin through questions and explaining more of what goes into a 410 sprint car team etc
I like that idea!! Sponsorship is different for everyone. Different amounts per team.
@@billydietrich I’m telling you it will get your fans more involved an will also generate more viewers for the fans that don’t know a lot about 410 racing it will give them different perspectives of what it’s like getting ready for a race what it takes etc
@@billydietrich when is Danny heading down to Florida or has he already left ?
@@billydietrich hey I just order a triple x frame for my roller what bird cage do you run?
Awesome information and updates!
Thoughts on the “Million”? As much as it’s a novel concept it’s Eldora.
A large track that’s more times then not one lane and hard to pass on as the evening progresses from an observational standpoint.
It’s not a “Cinderella Story ” type of track, so it seems like a lot of hype for a processional race, what do you think?
I like your input and I agree to a certain point. I guess everyone has a “shot” but in all reality you need experience at that track. I’m not sure if there’s another track in the world that could pull off this type of race. Tony is without a doubt the man when it comes to track ownership and promotion.
I think it is GREAT for sprint car racing and dirt track racing as a whole. Hopefully it brings more fans, teams and sponsors into this sport.
There are only a couple dirt tracks in the country that can seat enough people to pull such an event off.
Awesome video guys. Picked up a new DD shirt from my daughter for Christmas. Haven't met with the son yet. Fingers crossed for a new #8 RUclips shirt. Hope everyone has a great holiday season.
Thanks!! RUclips shirts are selling fast
Very informative guys!
Billy Tanner Holmes said he has 2 fire bottles in his car. He said David Gravel was looking at them in 2020.
I’m not sure they would meet the current rule requirement. There’s a handful of guys locally that also run them but they aren’t World of Outlaws legal.
Very Informative !! Thank You Guys !! Good Luck and Happy New Year !!
Thank you!!
ABOUT 50 DAYS LINCOLN STARTS.
Dilly and Billy Show!
First I’ve heard that 🤣🤣
This is Thomas rote and we have been to your store
Hey dude how are you
Good how are you and Danny
There has been some fire suppression systems go off prematurely or just in a wreck when there wasn't a fire and all the damage that it caused and clean up time really sucked for the owner. I think there was a modified or a street stock that had one and it prematurely went off didn't hit anything and it went off during the race filled his cockpit couldn't see got stopped finally and who knows how long it took them to clean that up. Now I don't know how they had it mounted but the point is that prematurely went off.
That’s not good at all. Should never happen.
Good stuff, thanks for sharing 👍
Fire bottle-refillable or do you have to buy a new one once they go off??
That’s a great question that I currently don’t have an answer for.
See you in Volusia 🏁🍻🌴☀️
I believe Todd Shaffer had an axle go in the bleachers at Port Royal after head on into inside wall years ago.
Could be. I remember it happened at Williams Grove once years ago.
Love the tech videos! A LOT has changed since I pitted for my wife's uncle's back in the '70-80's LOL
That’s true and a lot is still the same.
who builds your chassis and engines
Maxim chassis and Don Ott engines
hey thank you. i like your style your a very talented shoe. iam an old guy who owned/ wrenched a few super late models. 88 feature wins i n 10 years. i am always interested in sprints. never had the guts to own one. i love your u tube video's. best wishes happy new year.
I can't wait until racing starts up good luck in Florida Danny and Billy keep doing what your doing love watching you guys
Thank you!! Won’t be long till the season kicks off.
Excellent video, love the tech. Happy new year to you and your families.
Thank you! More to come
Great video, very informative 👍🏼Hope you both have a safe upcoming season!
Thank you
I have an idea for you guys. The fire suppression system that is ran by a remote to an actuator or whatever you call it that a safety crew member can remotely hit it. Of course they would all have to be on a different frequency. LOL
But you wouldn't have to worry about the little glass thing in the Gigi getting hot prematurely or it going off prematurely in a wreck. I don't see where the cost would be that much more. I know a guy who builds radio control cars and he can build stuff like that for cheap. I don't know there's pros and cons to everything. Anyway nice to see a video it's been a while. Ready for racing season as long as our government doesn't get stupid and calls us not to be able to have a season this year. Good luck
Our government is a whole new conversation 😆😆
@@billydietrich yup. A long one. 😆
Great video Fellas. Don't reuse your tech sticker. 🤣
😂😂
Nice update on the bottle wonder how many people are going to turn them in nitrous see you next year be safe
Great idea 😂
Torque tube loop and rock guard do you run them?
We both run a torque tube strap. I run a rock screen Danny does not.
@@billydietrich So you both don't run the loop like is on a XXX to help keep the rear end off the bottom of the seat?
@@Ottos_ScLm_Race_videos_2009_on I’m not sure the hoop helps with that. It only helps with the tube from going left to right. Strap can actually cinch down tight on tube and only allow up and down movement.
@@billydietrich Thanks good to know will pass info to drive and teams I talk to. Or if I go back and help teams in the northwest.
Great video. Thanks. Time to get the tracks up to date on fire protection. Most tracks are very weak in this area!🇺🇸
I agree 💯.
Always wondered why Danny doesn’t run a rock screen?
Good question. I’m opposite don’t race without it.
Are your body panels painted or are they blue gel coat?
Blue gel coat
great info and inside look at the new rules and safety changes
Thanks
Good stuff. Thanks DD for chiming in.

So cool. I know you guys dread it but man it would be badass to flip a sprint and get out of it. Not that I want to
It’s not enjoyable at all 😂
@@billydietrich ahhh it’s a story for the grandkids loll
hahah..double d
Great video. Thanks. Do you go to Florida as well ?
Really enjoy your videos
Thank you!! I don’t go to Florida to race. With our business someone has to stay and keep it going so that’s why I don’t travel much.
@@billydietrich OK. Well I really like your video content, both the races and the tech info so I'll be following you as you post more. I am in Ontario and so likely won't actually see you race (unless you get to Ohsweken Speedway) but I'll be fowling your videos. Safe and Successful '23
Once again awesome video
And I had no idea about some of the safety Its cool to have Danny in the videos. A little camera shy but still cool !
Thanks! I’m sure this won’t be his last appearance lol
Danny's drinking a coffee. Replace that with a couple beers and he'll be talking!
Team up!
I was never a big fan of the original Ultra Shield seats (I got hurt in one in 2009 and it bent prob 20-25 degrees midway down my back) but the new ones they’re building are really nice.
Does Hunt still build seats?
Those new seats are so much better than what we had in the 80's and 90's. If I would have had one of these I wonder if I would have not broken my neck after hitting the front stretch concrete and flipping halfway to Harrisburg back in 1990 at Port Royal? Phil Walter and I have discussed the benefits of these new seats. If you're gonna crash you might as well be comfortable? I do so remember that going end over end really hurts and sucks the wind right out of you. My shoulders were bleeding after my last big one from the belts.
Yeah it’s a huge improvement to keep drivers safe.
Awesome video guys! Very well explained!
Thanks Brad, Happy New Year
@@billydietrich Happy New Year to you and Danny and families
The race tracks could also add 5 to 10 ft of fencing on top of the old to keep parts from going in the stands. These little bull rings the only thing I've ever seen going to stands is tires and of course that is bad news but the ones I seen go over the fence only cleared the fence by a foot or two. Those tethers can knock a driver out or seriously injure them I've seen that happen.
Definitely pros and cons about it.
When is Danny getting a youtube channel?
I doubt that will happen. He’s busy with everything else
It makes me grumpy that they implement something for safety then gouge you on the price.
How much is your life worth. I worked in hospital burn unit . Burns suck!!!
@@kasper050in the mid 80’s seen a sprint car fire, driver almost lost his life, track and safety crew poorly equipped and trained. . Long recovery. Lots of $$for burn unit. Insurance does not cover all of it.
Fire suppression is much much cheaper. It was fellow drivers who saved him.
@@kasper050 You missed the point
