Way to go, Billy, I love what you’re doing man, frankly, I could listen to you all day long! Thank you for all that you do, for all that you and Heather do for these videos!

I always tell drivers, you only get one shot to do your safety right.
Thank you Billy for this video.
If 1 driver escapes a lower extremity injury it was more than worth it.

Good video! I was one of them that ran both. Figured a little bit of extra safety/fail safe never hurt.

Love the tech! I’ve heard the term “torque tube,” but never knew exactly how it worked. Thanks for the videos. Always look forward to the next one.

Nope! My first cars had neither. I was very fortunate to have survived a complete separation at the rear end side. We ran home from Clinton County to the shop and used the MIG to put it back together at the bolted flange. Our shop was only 2 miles away. I do remember BJ Stewart had his leg broken coming out of the 4th turn at Selinsgrove as a result of a flip and driveline combo. I say use as much safety equipment as possible. We just didn't have that stuff on our minds back then? By the time I got with Rick Hench this stuff was just becoming standard issue. Rick was a driver himself so he was putting his ass in the same cars as me, Jim Nace, and a few others back then. Safety!! I think I may have heard Nate mention strapping his torque tube a few times while we were in the trailer over the summer? He might have been referring to something totally different?

I just had a bad flip other weekend at Volusia and my torque tube strap saved my legs. I won’t run a hoop.

I would say it would be overkill but I would use both

Just for clarification the torque tube does not rotate correct. the rotating assembly is inside the tube. However if a failure happens in a crash the tube / drivesahaft can become a bone breaker! i beilieve Tony Stewart suffered a broken leg in such an event.

Thanks for sharing, was looking at those straps this weekend at PRI, wasn't sure if they could be ran in addition to the hoop or not

I know you're dealing with sprint cars, but your videos have been helpful for me while I build my first midget.
I have no idea what I'm doing, got no help, and there is a definite lack of show and tell out there.

Where will you be racing at?
A lot of your competitors will probably be happy to help you get going.

@mjriemen I'll be racing a D2 midget around Indiana and Ohio with the usac midget thunder midget series.
Gas city, Kokomo, circle city, putnamville, Bloomington, montpellier,
Waynesfeild, Eldora, Limaland, moeller, Freemont. Those are a few tracks that I know are on the schedule.

Are there expiration dates on the tube straps as on the harness belts. If so how often do they have to be replaced.

Will that work on a regular car driveshaft , instead of a loop?

    • @mjriemen
      @mjriemen 6 месяцев назад

On a Sprint Car, the driveline is spinning inside the torque tube.
Trying to put a strap on a driveline wouldnt work since the driveline itself is spinning, while the torque tube isn’t
