We didn't have snow boots n the 60's as kids. We put on six pairs of socks, then Town Talk bread bags, then our rain boots. Still had ice cold wet socks after an hour of sled riding, so we'd peel them off and do the whole process again. Always got holes in the bags. Just thought that was what all children did.

Chipped ham! Everywhere I've ever lived I've always asked for "Chipped Ham." Once a woman in North Carolina instantly said, "You must be from Western PA."
I used to work at the deli at the Wexford Market District. People are always really specific on how they want their ham. Some people want it chipped enough to be sawdust where it takes about half an hour on the slicer to get a pound which is a real pain in the ass especially when the line is long. And then people would complain about getting the pre chipped Isaly's we had in the case even though it's popular enough it never sits in the case for more than an hour and is just as fresh as us chipping it to order.

When I moved to Cincinnati I went to deli asked for chipped ham ! The lady was like ..we don't carry that brand ! I was like it's chipped ham not a brand .I'm still saying chipped ham it's been 35 yrs. My Dad sends my sister chipped ham and Isley's bbq. Awesome!

I miss Big Bird since I moved & if you're old enough to remember Kroger was HQ'd in Burgh & I sometimes got dragged along to Thorofare when I was a kid. The one by the 40th street Bridge. The Kroger was in the long gone Stanton Heights Shopping Center.
Wow... Thoroughfare was right down the hill from my house growing up and it was the only market where we shopped until it closed. There was a Kroger nearby but we'd only go there once in a great while. Both completely vanished from the area.

Route 8 from Allison Park to Butler must have the most public golf courses outside of a Resort area. And lots of good bars. Natili's in Butler was a great place....heard it's gone now however.

Ok to update my previous post, at first I could not find the Pittsburgh Dad hot sauce at the Giant Eagle Donaldson Crossroads, I saw a manger and ask “Do you know Pittsburgh Dad”? , he responded yes and took me to the section. I wanted the hot sauce; it is located next to the “Colony Sauce” and Rachael Ray whatever” the Pittsburgh Dad hot sauce section is near sold out, the steak sauce not so much . I tried the hot sauce, its great, only problem no little plastic hole piece for shaking, so be careful and pour easy. Dad says put it on eggs, I used it on pan-fried potatoes. Taste great.

Yeah, I grew up in Chicago, and we put brown paper covers on our school books. You could doodle on 'em, write stuff but nothing dirty or my teachers would make you cross it out or even tear the cover off. God help you if they thought you were drawing or writing in the books themselves.
