Grails is such an underrated band.
They are in an own category of underrated. How can a band write a song like Deeper politics and not get massive recognisition. Or take Acid rain, if pink Floyd made that song it would be one of their best. Utter insanity
John - John "Deep Politics" is fn incredible as well
@@drofnoise555 yeah man they never took a wrong step. But there is something about DEEPER politics that just gets me every time.
@@johnlg2209 Totally agree with you. Grails started with more simple but very efficient recipes of their musical creative search with the Burden of Love some time ago. Now their creative work especially the track you've mentioned has become ingenious sophisticated drug. So balanced and unique, as you've said below - gets me every time.
@@Enir4777 Thanks for you're comment. Through the years I have dabbled with many genres and found a lot of music I enjoy and cherish but I would trade away most of it in a heartbeat to listen to deeper politics, chariots, Acid rain, After the funeral, Take Refuge, Almost grew my hair m.m. Emil Amos genius is a big part of Grails. Listen to Lilacs&champagne if you haven't (another project of Emil Amos and Alex Hall)
Not gonna lie, this is one of the best (if it's not the best) music series on RUclips!
Why would you ever lie about that?
@@DoctorFurioso Good question, man.
fact
You're lying - it is THE best.
if you go on the
Amoeba
website you can watch all of the whats in my bags.
Yes! I was not expecting Grails.
HOLY SONS!!! HOLY SONS!!! HOLY SONS!!! HOLY SONS!!! HOLY SONS!!!
Such a great episode
I just can not lie, Grails are probably my favorite of the current crop of bands right now, Deep Politics is just a sublime piece of music and is one of my all time favorites.
One of my favorite bands for sure! I've found so much great music following these dudes and everything they do. Drifter's sympathy podcast is the best!
Hapy to see Grails at home back in 2018. Surprised to see Cem Karaca in Ilyas Ahmed's bag.
I don't know Grails, but this is one of my favorite episodes already. They're very knowledgeable and seem like really nice guys. I love ambient music and can't wait to check out their picks as well as their own music.
check out that yoshimura, sublime stuff. Oh and GAS is my favorite, i cant find a superlative more than extraordinary music. older stuff is even better.
You won't be disappointed. They're fantastic!
What album would you recommend starting with?
I love GAS, new album is fantastic! Definitely will check out Yoshimura.
@@ExplanationMarks What are some of your favorite ambient albums?
Grails is great at being a band, and they're somehow even better at being music fans. LOVE this one.
10:31 "They're kind of like people or something." He makes that sound like such a meaningfull thing. Wish I could hear that compliment more often.
Thanks so much for the list in the description box. Cool.
Emil is a great guy!
I really love this series, and this may be the greatest episode. Every selection is so cool
Grails! K Leimer! Gas! Fuck yeah! Knew these guys would be on the ball. True picks all around. Itching to check out Yoshimura, Fred Neil, and Nico Motte - those are all new to me. Another home run from Amoeba. This series is so great.
Emil Amos 👊 we need new OM album!
Is he the original OM drummer o like the second one? Anyway... OM is amazing
@@riggs100 He's the second one .. but he's the one that did the advatic sounds album
Yes! Another OM album any day of the week ..
THIS BAND IS FUCKING AMAZING
Wow. Just wow. Thanks for the 12 minutes worth of music education.
love emil's podcast
novelfroge 80 where can I find it? :)
@@luddewho its called drifters sympathy, I use Spotify for podcasts so I don't really know where else to find it
novelfroge 80 ok Nice! Thanks! Will check Spotify. :)
It really is amazing
Did he stop making the podcast?
Very interesting lots of stuff I've never heard of ... And I love 👍👍👍
Love this series. Would really love the Breeders or the Deal sisters go shopping.
Good one ! Love Grails .
I love Grails but I’m more excited to see Ilyas Ahmed in the flesh! Love this episode
I'm digging the man in the middle's Bill Murray voice and skinny Roger Ebert body
What if Thomas Jane, Jeff Goldblum and Christian Slater formed a band.
Great episode.
Never heard of Grails, but based on their choices I will definitely check then out! 😊 👍
please do
You're in for a treat. :) Also check out Holy Sons (Emil Amos)
Check out OM as well, Emil plays drums.
Bowie is God, Emil is Jesus Christ
They're so good
Yes wave notation 1! I just found that recently. Nice!
Shockwaves is such a great movie.
Nice! I also have that "Sharky's Machine" record for that "one track."
Great choices, especially the soundtracks. I didn't realize Surf Nazis... had such a cool score.
Shock Waves is an incredible movie and soundtrack, vibes for days
this is why this show was made
Really solid picks!
Best one in a long while
That’s so cool that his dad knew Fred Neil. I thought he only had a small cult following so it was nice to see that :)
Emma Elizabeth Fred Neil’s self titled album is fantastic. Super underrated. It has “Everybody’s talkin” which Harry Nilsson made famous, and it has “The Dolphins” which Tim Buckley did a beautiful cover of.
How is it not more popular?
Graaaaails! What a good band.
great picks
Love Grails and Emil Amos other bands: OM, Holy Sons. This list has so much good music! The Dolphins was on Sopranos by the way, love Anode and Narkopop, thanks!
I hope John Waters eventually makes himself available for one of these.
Now that would be FANtastic!!
*EVERYONE NEEDS THAT FRED NEIL ALBUM. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GET IT.*
Nice GAS record, never knew there was a vinyl pressing
Yessssssss
Rock Konducta is defo Madlib's most underated album, IMO his best instrumental work
Very cool band with cool picks! Get Opeth or Leprous or Gojira on here!
It's been a long time since I've known the person(s) participating in What's in My Bag.
Grails are awesome and so is Emil Amos in his solo stuff and as Holy Sons. Check it out!
Jamie Laszlo that's on you. get in the know!
Didn't know one record they showed, only knew tangerine dream. Made me check out their music.
Don't know who the grails are. But I'm gonna look them up. They introduce me to a lot of interesting stuff.
Nico Motte - Life Goes On If You Are Lucky is a great track, I'm sure he loved it once he got it home
Anyone know any more cool synth soundtracks ?
Grails ruined my passion for making music because they make everything I would want too
Does anyone else want to see a video introducing us to the lady doing these interviews?
I need to know; what am I hearing from 3:41? Can’t seem to find it
It's a song by K. Leimer called “Districts” and it's from the album "Closed System Potentials."
1:24 got to have a listen to that! 3:12
I got to 3.13 and already I had 3 new albums I want to check out. Historically important bands like this drive each other NUTS; such different people, yet each brings his own very different direction. Band counselors make a fortune out of these guys, but out of their insanity, we as listeners benefit. It's selfish, but be honest, when listening to music, we are all toddlers; the purity of selfishness. Silk Rd by Grails is my favorite - Mozart would shit his pants if he heard that :) He loved music too :)
HOW THE FUCK DOES LITERALLY NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT GRAILS.
Thank god for soulseek
Surf Nazis Must Die has some good songs.
captain geech and the shrimp shack shooters!!
Wow. How's the Fred Neil story. Crazy.
Please try to get Sleep or High On Fire on the show.
I agree, Joe Preston.
What happened to Zak Riles?
wondering the same thing
@@craig2717 He runs a farm in Kentucky and also has a band called Watter.
John - John yeah I knew about Watter, but he was he had been doing that while playin with grails.
Okay, you guys told me to give you a minute on the Jerry Cantrell episode two weeks ago
Aaaah, when's the Jerry Cantrell episode coming out?
Ok, these guys know their sh*t
Hasret is awesome
Let's have the band Nothing on here please :)
5:13 it's 2-D from Gorillaz!!
Please do Kenny Rogers next!
Cem Karaca efsanedir.
Neat choices
Artist at 5:12?
Hisato Higuchi. They list artists in description :)
Grails is perfect, so apparently is their taste in music and Italian horror.
Did you see they remade Suspiria? Not sure why tho. RIGHT when Goblin is touring again.
@@Neenerella333 I'm stoked. Luca is an auteur as Argento was, I am expecting great things.
In Turkish C is pronounced G so it's actually pronounced Gem Karaja :P
Can't you get Elliot Smith to agree to come on??
Ron Jitter sadly he is no longer alive
"Kinda", "I guess".
Just posted the same thing ;) (didn't see your post before it, sorry)
Get The Frights on here! :D
Y'all hiring?
These dudes definitely listen to what you dont.
You gotta get The Thermals on here!!
they broke up a couple months ago
The one dude looks like James Woods, haha.
Well, this guys don't listen to Rolling stones,i learnes some stuff today
do John Carpenter!
We’ve invited him in that past but it hasn’t worked out... yet
Cem Karaca is pronounced Jem Karaja
World Music or as hipsters say, 'Music i don't really listen to but just buy for the sake of being different'.
Orrrr they just like world music? What’s up with all these jaded comments in here?
Surf Nazis must die!!!!!!!
lmao whats with these middle to late aged guys and African music?
Almost everything i see them picking out aleast 1 album from this one dude or band from Africa.
not saying its bad or anything.
"Just standing in front of the pyramids...shredding."
Because African music is awesome and without that we really wouldn’t have modern music
Lost count of how many times "like" was used. Like, I guess, kinda like like. AARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Horrible taste
yeah sure, fedora tarot boy
