Oogway was/is and always will be the coolest character.
So true, that’s why I’ve always liked her more than Tigress. Don’t care how much Kung Fu Tigress knows or how “cool” she acts: without compassion, you’re nothing.
Yup cause in the back story she knows rejection. She doesn't have fangs! And kills with her dance moves!

People always say Viper did nothing wrong, but when her friends joked about Po the first time, she did laugh along side them repeatedly. (I'm sure it's her laughing because the only other female voice who could make that sound at that time doesn't really do loud laughter.) She's not that innocent either. All of the Furious Five knew that any of them had a chance to be a Dragon Warrior, but then some guy who didn't train for it for years just fell out of the sky and took what could be a redemtion or a family honor from all of them. So no wonder even the sweetest can go bitter. I mean being rude is uncalled for, but I get it. Viper wasn't immediately kind to Po. She was just like the rest of them that, in slowly getting to know the guy, learned that he's just doing his best. She's just one of the first ones to give a chance. Doesn't mean she was a saint. Afterall, Viper didn't have to go so hard on him during training. But she joined in on beating him up hard anyways. She didn't go easy on Po, cut him off quickly, and her apology wasn't as sincere when you know to look without bias. She made him look stupid by never letting him counter and while you can say that's just part of a fight, that's not how it is for training. Specially a beginner. They all knew just by looking at Po's early attempt at fighting, that he wasn't in any way ready, yet they all still ganged up on him. They all fought the way Shifu fought. Ruthless with no break or mercy. And they all knew Master Shifu wanted to be rid of the Panda. By emulating his way of "training" Po, they too show that they want him gone. With actions rather than words. Because you can see from the Secret of the Scroll that there is a method of training for newbies like young Tigress and she took time, but with Po they rushed. Pressured him to quickly show he can be the hero to beat Tai Lung. It's more impressive, really, that Po didn't immediately break from it. See? One must remember that the Five are a unit who shares hardships and dreams with one another. So Viper can just as easily share the feeling of dejection with her comrades when Po came along. If not for her, then for her friends' suddenly dashed hopes and dissappointment. The reason she always stood beside them rather than side with Po even. It wasn't as obvious or vicious, but you can't say it never happened. All of Po's idols were there to show how he was alone and allows us to sympathize then eventually love him. Tigress may be the last of the Five to welcome him, but Viper and the rest also felt doubtful of their new Dragon Warrior in the beginning. Actually, it's this fact that I knew Viper was flawed and yet learned to believe that makes her an amazing character. Rather than just a bland "I'm the nicest kindest Mary Sue and everyone should immediately like me cause I'm never mean", she, like her team, had to change, grow, and accept. That's character development! =D (Oh shoot. I didn't even notice how long I was typing. Sorry. 😅 Cartoons always get me passionate.)
I have never seen anyone get so offended by the Furious Five's initial reaction to Po. Don't get me wrong, bullying is bad, but it would have been a pretty terrible movie if Po just shows up, crushes all of their dreams, and they were instantly BFFs. IDK, it just seemed that since they weren't instantly nice to him, you immediately gave up on them as characters.
Yeah. They were bullying him. But they weren't doing it just because he was a panda. He unintentionally crushed their dreams. A theory I have (based on their reactions and their teamwork) is that they believed one of them (probably Master Tigeress) would be declared the Dragon Warrior. And they respected each other and would've gladly followed whichever of them was chosen. But instead, that honor was given to a stranger with no experience. Someone who they see as a useless fanboy with delusions of grandeur. Hurt like that doesn't go away overnight.
Yeah, it hurts... but it kinda feels realistic(?) I mean, yeah, sigh.

Yeah Dillon starts saying that they hate him because of his body shape or because of the color of his skin, but I’m like “no, that has nothing to do with this”.
Plus, Viper was actually showing concern for him.
I love how upset you got when Master Shifu and the Five were being mean to Po. Loved the understanding and protectiveness you had for an eager panda that just wanted to do his best and make the people he looked up to proud of him.
In their defense, however, you have to understand that they are animals who have dedicated literal years - if not their entire lives - to kung fu. I can understand why they'd be so off-put by having a literal nobody with NO knowledge or experience in their craft be given an honor that practitioners like them can only DREAM of having. They shouldn't have been so mean but it's not like they were completely unjustified in what was - to them at least - a slap to the face.
Agreed, plus they had an implied time limit. Not that they should have been unkind, but a lot of it is very telling: "if you have any respect..." . It's them feeling hurt, and disrespected, to a degree, Tigress especially considering her backstory.
Limitless power we have all been training decades to be even close to handling, and it's given to the first person to walk in off the street, who may or may not have the responsibility and skill to handle the burden it comes with.

@Ana Pinto I don't condone the way they treated Po, obviously. I just wanted to voice out WHY they did it. Still a mean thing for them to do and it's no excuse to take out their frustrations on Po.
My point is that they weren't being mean for the fun of it, they were mean because they were also hurt by what was to them - at the time - a seemingly random choice by Master Oogway. I don't think anyone would be very happy having some random joe get picked for a position in a craft you've worked in for years.

My mother never tried to crush my dreams. She just tried encouraging me to try them as a hobby while I focused on a more practical career. I didn't listen to her and ended up with a bachelor in arts that nobody cares about.
Arguably nobody cares about your degree rather than what you can do with it.

I've never met anyone as mad as I was for the way they treated Po. Your rant was so spot on! However I do kind of understand why they acted that way, and especially Tigress because she spent her whole life trying to impress Shifu but I still don't think it was a good excuse for how they treated Po. I mean he didn't even ask to be chosen.
You got that righit at forst everone fear tigresss and didint belive in her due to her strengthvshe only manage to controlll her strength after shifu training
In the second movie the dad starts making and selling tofu it in a sort seen and you have to look for it but he still makes tofu it's a pretty good attention to detail the creators sneak in.

Tai Lung was raised with high praise, and was always told he was special, and he loves himself.
Po was always told he cannot achieve his dream, and that he is not special, and he hated himself
When Tai Lung looks in his own reflection, he said "It's NOTHING!"
But when Po looked at himself, he smiled 🥲
Brings a tear to my eye seeing how much Po learned to love himself.

you were really harsh on the 5. I understand that, but imagine working for something your entire life and all your work is thrown away when that honor is given to someone who hasn't worked for it a day in their life. I would be frustrated too.
@Ana Pinto of course. that wasn’t okay at all, but we cant dismiss their frustration. if i were them, i wouldn’t be mad at po, i would be mad at oogway.
@@katehudkins1832 Can't be mad at Oogway either! He's already established that the dragon warrior isn't something you can "turn into". They made it clear the dragon warrior is obviously destiny more then actual being a trained master. The point is to look for someone who would eventually come to have natural talent, fulfilling said destiny as Dragon Warrior.
You know what's going on and what you're signing up for when you're training for years and you're not even guranteed the scroll, we already saw that with Tai Lung. He trained for years and then he expected the scroll, but of course even training from a child, till your bones break, won't gurantee you the scroll. So they were being pretty petty over something they already established and knew about (Tai Lung)
@@fredericksaxton9782 yeah i was just saying if the characters had to be mad at someone other than themselves or po, it would be oogway because he is making the ultimate decision. I’m not saying they would be mad at him in the first place, i was just making a general assumption.

Also, here's another question! Why STRIVE to be the Dragon Warrior when, even in the wake of the benefits and cultural significance the position has, you can carry as much, if not more, than the Warrior in your own right?
I get you can be angry if you've been working at it for years, but if it isn't attainable and is something that someone is born into (by that rationale) then it's p much just an excuse for vanity lmao
@@katehudkins1832 Tai Lung is the biggest one to look at for that as well. Shifu loved him so much and taught him so much, telling him that he is destined for greatness. With that, Tai Lung is filled with pride and determination to become the dragon warrior, until Oogway tells him no.
I honestly think Ping was a GREAT father. He's a businessman with only one child so of course, he'd hope to have his son take over the restaurant. But he never really pushes Po. If he became a bit more excited about having Po take over because he was told his son had a dream about noodles, then that's on Po. Po lied, and Ping believed him.
But even when Po came back later in the film, Ping didn't scold him or rubbed it in his face that "I knew you weren't meant for kung fu", he just tried to comfort his son who was obviously distressed, bringing up their noodle business not as his "destiny" but more like a consolation. That even if the whole kung fu thing hadn't worked out, Po would always have HIM and the restaurant to fall back to.
What happens when things turn out well for Po in the end? When he becomes the Dragon Warrior he was meant to be? Ping is overjoyed and rightfully supports his son till the end of the trilogy. And if Ping just happens to use his son's new fame to help boost sales for his restaurant? That's just him being a clever businessman - and also probably his way of SHOWING how proud he is of his boy who didn't dream of noodles but of kung fu.

Also everytime Po has a crisis it is him who turns up with the word Po need to hear and even gives great advice to Po's bio dad in the third movie
I can't get over what a good reactor and just overall good person you are! You get invested in the stories and characters almost immediately, while also giving great takes and advice. We need more people like you 🧡

I understand not crushing a kid's dreams. I've always been super artistic but I was told by my father that I wouldn't make any money until after I was dead. That discouraged me from pursuing art as a career path. It's only now that I'm in my late twenties that I've gotten away from that and am now really trying to pursue my art because it's what makes me happy and one of the few things I'm good at. I'm actually really proud of myself because I've gotten quite far in my comic book/ graphic novel and I'm almost ready to put out the first chapter.
As someone who also wants to pursue that career, I have to say that’s incredible to hear. Keep pursuing

This is pretty common knowledge for veterans but this is pretty neat nonetheless. 7:34 “One often meets his destiny on the path he takes to avoid it.”
If Shifu didn’t send the messenger to double everything, than Tai Lung wouldn’t have gotten the feather to escape.
Also, throughout Tai Lung’s escape, he uses weapons and objects that were meant to stop him as tools for his escape. He used the crossbow bolts to break his chains and get him to higher ground. He used the chain from the elevator (?) to swing himself even higher up, used the guard’s own weapons, and finally used the explosives to take out the last of the guards.
This was one of my favorite cartoons especially since Jack Black is the voice of poe, and also about martial arts!!!
The voices of the furious five are some iconic actors, the voice of master monkey is voice by Jackie Chan, viper is voiced by Lucy Liu, Tigres is voice by Angelina Jolie, Master Shifu is voiced by Dustin Hoffman, Mantis is voice by Seth Rogan, And Crane is voiced by David Cross.

I liked the reaction as always. I think though you were very understanding of Po and did not try to understand the rest. I mean yes when you just focus on Po the 5 and the master being mean to him might be uncalled for and yes the overweight jokes were unnecessary and I completely agree with you. But if you look at it through their eyes, they deserve it more than Po ever did. This huge honor that he was given for not having any experience and just being there accidentally, they earned it by studying the craft for years and saving others. If I was working hard for a promotion and someone else who didn’t even work in my company gets promoted to the position I was working on for years, of course I would hate the guy’s gut it’s pretty self explanatory. To them he didn’t deserve the honor and if you look at it from other’s perspective I agree too and I don’t think it is about judging a book by it’s cover it’s simply about whether or not a person is qualified for the job. Yes, someone can work hard and be deserving of a job or promotion but simply getting this huge honor for not doing anything while there are people who have spent years working hard ? Because from the beginning the five we’re well respected and adored and known because they have been doing it for way longer and giving the honor to Po does not seem fitting when thinking about it logically. I do agree that it makes for a great story because it is like an underdog story.

I have to say, even if the furious five treated po wrong at the beginning, I get where they are coming from. They've been trained their whole life for this position and the masters told them that someday one of them will become the dragon warrior, but then suddenly master oogway picks some rando from the village who never trained kung fu. Im not justfying how they expressed their feelings towards po, but I totally get their disappointment and anger
Hate the bullies tactics but love the person that is what needs to be learned we never know why that person bullies, could be they have never known love and were treated the same way they treat others. Always love is the answer🥰🥰

the Furious Five (and Tai Lung) are all references to REAL martial arts styles patterned after animals. They did a TON of research in that area for this.

The Five and Shifu were angry because Oogway chose someone who had zero Kung fu experience over five masters that had worked tirelessly at Kung fu and Shifu had worked hard training them. It went beyond body shaming.

This movie is the ultimate never judge a book by its cover movie. Just title alone with Jack Black makes sound like a dumb kids movie. And when we watched this movie not only was it funny, but man it is beautiful.
Also there are sequels. Kung Fu panda 2 is the best one in my opinion and well you'll see. Then there are mini movies like Secrets of the Furious Five which explains about the Five and there are more.

My favorite is the 2nd movie but from all the dreamworks movies I think the whole kung fu panda saga is my all time favorite!! It's just so unbelievable story and the animation is also stunning.

You can't really blame the others for getting down on Po at first. I mean image you spend your whole life prepareing to get the perfect job, you know the ins and out by heart, your the model employee and person and the boss suddenly decides to just pick a random person off the street and give them the job instead
As part of my university studies in international relations, I also took some coursework in East Asia history, culture, and philosophy. I love Kung Fu Panda because I see elements of Chan Buddhism in it. Also, a lot of martial arts movies like Kung Fu Panda, Kung Fu Hustle, and Hero (the Chinese film) where the martial arts are very supernatural remind me a lot of Journey to the West, which is a 16th century Chinese novel. In essence, there is a mythos surrounding martial arts as unlocking supernatural powers and wisdom of life.
