Thanks Al for this first in-depth walk around on the LM2240SP/LM2244SP-2 mower. As an previous owner of a SelectCut Peak Power LM2147SP (Peak Power LM2142SP first with 8.3lb torque brushless motor modified with SelectCut High Lift dual blade set operating with 2 X 12.0Ah (#7) batteries) I do miss the Peak Power technology with 180min overheat stress free runtime under extreme hot summer weather when using 2 x 10.0Ah or 2 x 12.0Ah batteries. I always have to stop mowing 2/3 into the cut and have to walk all the way back to the house just to swap out the battery on my new 22" aluminum LM2206SP mower. If EGO makes a residential Peak Power SelectCut aluminum model, I buy it today as I am always adjusting the handle height when mowing hilly areas! The side discharge chute and the High Lift blade for the first production 12/2023 LM2200SP/LM2206SP is free by just PM or call EGO once the mower is registered first and EGO will provide free delivery. Production after 05/2024 (Hight Lift blade drawing image printed on the retail box) both High Lift blade and side discharge chute are included in the box together with upgrade metal motor from the LMX5300SP (No high pitch noise but slower ramping up speed). I been eyeing on this mower since the announcement but do have few renovation after watching this video and wondering if you would PLEASE test and verify and provide feedback on few things: - when backing up immediately after releasing the self propelled button, would it cause the wheels lock-up without the need of taking an extra step(s) and does it lift the cut height (even just temporarily) - Dose the self propelled motor makes high pitch noise when operates in all different constant speed? I see the motor shape resemble my Gen1 aluminum LM2200SP, black plastic housing so hopefully it will not have wheel stock issue like the 21" SP models when backing up without taking extra steps; however, I am concerned it may also make high pitch noise like the Gen1 LM2200SP (I will verify the MFP# on EGO site once Parts List becomes available). - Does the mower cutting deck "LIFT" & "Drop" whenever the self propelled motor is engaged? When the self propel was engaged, I see the mower kind of jumped like the 21" models did which indicates possibility of cut height change when engage/disengage the self propelled motor which is now fully eliminated by independent front/rear height adjustment on the 22" aluminum LM2200SP/LM2206SP The side discharge chute for the aluminum LM2206SP shipped from EGO as well as the one I bought from a local dealer, the rear of the chute is Completely Flat and flush to the tip of the rear door lid when installed. It turned from curve at the clip exit to fully flat surface and does not stick out beyond the end of the rear door lid tip. I saw a few videos of the fully curved chute on RUclips last year from people in AU using the LMX5300SP and was wondering if that is a preproduction demo model. Not sure which one EGO is going to keep as the future production unit or just have two types to differentiate between the aluminum and the super composite mowers. Thanks again for making this video. I look forward to hear the feedback on the questions I have listed.
Hey my friend, you’re gonna have to keep an eye on the channel as your questions will get answered overtime or you’re gonna have to put me on the payroll. Wow that was a big post you got there.
So glad to see the barrier on the inside of the rear cover. When I got my 2130 dual blade I had commented on how dirty of a mower it is and it should have that barrier to keep grass from blowing out across the top of the bag. I even 3D printed a barrier for proof of concept and it worked well. Note this was when EGO had the Champion program going on and I was one of the Champions so we got to provide lots of feedback to EGO. Glad EGO has finally incorporated that barrier in the rear cover. I'll be waiting to see how well that new barrier blocks grass escape across the top of the bag. I also wonder if they redesigned the wiring/switch setup where the handlebar pivots. That's always been a bit of a weak point over the years, especially for those who like to fold the handlebar a lot. I rarely, if ever, fold mine so it's never been an issue for me. Nice review as always.
I've watched all your EGO mower videos since you started, I've commented the same thing in almost all your videos. I have asked for duel batteries, allow me to switch turbo without having to stop the blade, bring back LCD, get rid of speed IQ. They did it all. Thank You EGO and thank you Tech Made Easy!
Love to see you pull out your Honda with these new Ego models for a comparison just to see how far the cut quality has come since your initial comparison
I watched your original (winter) video on the Speed IQ and decided to buy it and I'm one of your viewers (in the minority, I guess) who loved it then, still love (and use) it now, and still think you just don't know how to use it properly because it works great. Sorry to see EGO drop it. This video (like your original Speed IQ video) was VERY helpful. Thanks. Hopefully, by spring you won't sour on this model because it looks great too and I want it. I just need to rationalize why I would possibly need a second lawn mower. On their website, it says it's "coming soon."
I’m in the Ego system with a mower, blower, hedger, and trimmer for about 3 years. The tools are great but the batteries don’t last and they’re really expensive to replace. I have one 10ah battery and one 2.5 ah battery. At first I could mow the entire lawn with the 10ah battery and then use the 2.5 battery to trim and blow. Three years later I can’t mow with both batteries without taking time to charge them. If I need to trim and blow it takes even longer. Ego batteries don’t last and are extremely expensive.
I hear ya the batteries are expensive but try to get a couple more so at least you don’t have just the two batteries . I try to look for tool deals that have the battery but the 2.5ah battery is really only good for small tools like the hedger
@TheDarkArchon if you’re talking about aftermarket batteries, I would stay away from them. I tried them myself and honestly, they just didn’t work out well for me.
@waymor2460 that's likely because you run the batteries down too low. I know that it's a redundancy because the battery usage time is the main advertisement for beneficial purposes. However, for longevity purposes, it's not recommended to run them down. My recommendation is no lower than 50%......30% if you have to. .... . Which then also means 6mah batteries won't cut it for the job. You need 12+mah batteries minimum and run those down to 50% on a dual battery system on this type of mower in the video.(easier said then done) Yes, you will spend a lot buying so many of the 12s (which i have (4) 12s and (4) 10 mah batteries 8 in total) about $3800 with the huge portable E-generator included and 4 independent battery chargers (sold separately) all included in the $3800 investment for everything (stuff were on sale 2 years ago). Being conservative with the batteries allows them last significantly longer, but they aren't going to tell you that. I bet you'll get 3 to 4 times the length of time hey will last being conservative. A push Mower with only 1 battery insert is definitely a recipe for the batteries not lasting as long without being conservative and with being conservative would result an insane amount of time to keep switching batteries at only 50% but that's the only way you get your money's worth frustratingly. Why do i have so many batteries????? Tesla. Along with the ego generator which contains 4 battery ports and it can also charge batteries when not in use. Better than a gas generator to an extent. I'll be purchasing this mower but I won't be planning on using the (2) 6mha batteries or comes with......
I did see that - Nice touch with the high lift blade, though I mainly find use for just the mulching blade. Wouldn't it be nice if they included a spare mulching blade too (rather than the high-lift). Man, I bet a lot of people would like that!
i have the original SP 2100 and love it...i am not a huge fan of the digital read out because it is just one more thing to go bad....the two batteries and charger are worth the price alone....I have had my mower since 2017 and simpler is better so far
I wish, I purchase all of these and the commercial version is sooo close to the residential version I had to make a decision. Sorry bud, don't have the funds
Thanks for the overview as usual 👊 Where did you find the tool only? Look forward to the head to head against the aluminum deck. Really interested how well the side discharge works. That is one of the main reasons I was interested in the aluminum only but now this one has the same design. Also wondering if you only get max torque with two batteries.
@@TechMadeEzy Just saw the "Peak Power Kit" package at ACME. I have a feeling, because of that description and the fact that the two included 6Ah batteries equal 12, that is the minimum amount needed to get the full torque rating. If that is true, it would be nice to know the torque without that much battery power.
@@TechMadeEzy I had an epiphany... RTFM 😆 "Using two batteries gives you a longer run time and efficient power draw managed by PEAK POWER™ technology." Last part is a bit vague. Also found this. "NOTE: The blade speed cannot be adjusted during operation. The change will take effect only after the motor is stopped and started again." Not sure if this was added by mistake or your mower wasn't supposed to perform like it did for you. Just found this after Googling Peak Power Technology. "When two fully charged batteries are connected, the system outputs maximum power." I have to assume that pertains to torque.
Hey Al, Awesome review! EGO should hire you, never mind just sponser! Question though - are these blades (mulching blades are all I use), the same as in my 2156SP? I assume they are , even though the deck here is an inch bigger than my 2156SP. Looking foward to watching you use this thing - Thanks!
The mulch/bag switch seems like a breaking point. While the plug is an added annoyance to switch out, I can’t see the benefits of a 4 option switch that may break sooner.
Thanks for the review. I just picked up a 2156 when they went on sale to replace our aging 2114 that would choke up on our grass. Still haven't opened the 2156, and now debating if I want to return it and get either the new 2236 or this 2244. Any thoughts on if the ~$350 difference would be worth it to return the 2156 and get a newer model?
will the Ego AR2100 stripe kit fit this mower? also, never tried a self propelled mower. does it disengage the drive wheels when pulling backwards? or is there resistance?
Still wishing they had all these options without the self propelled option. 😢 I really like the updated handle on the bagger attachment! I have the old version that's just a small loop in the bar. It's so strange they don't include the side discharge with all of the models......I have the cheapest push version and it came with the mulch plug and side chute!
Thanks for the overview! Is the self propel motor no longer whiney? That's the only other complaint I have with their mowers otherwise this guy addresses everything to me.
Really wish they'd offer another option on the self propel function. Touch control is completely useless if you're standing anywhere but directly behind the machine. If they'd put the paddle controls from the 600 series on this I would absolutely buy it.
Ego needs a 30-inch commercial mower that is all brushless and doesn't have that annoying loud whine/squeak when using the self-propelled feature. The newer models have this issue. 🤮
It's much Like I hypothesised few months ago. Almost perfect. Except ... The back cover tight is a stupid thing. It means no rear discharge. The rear cover needs to be around 2 inches open when "closed". Like a Honda. Side discharge is just a mess. The height adjustment is fragile like when it's built that way. Don't hit a wall with this. Should be ok for most anyhow. Speed control is still better on a Milwaukee. I could not care less about a display or Bluetooth.

LM2156SP It's a great mower👍All my yard equipment is EGO, mainly based on your great reviews😊

Hi Al. Excellent deep dive video! Ego has really upgraded the new model. I think they’re watching your videos. Well done!

What did you think of the video?
Fantastic!
Awesome review.....
Thanks Richard more to come in the spring, can't wait to use this. What do you have now?
still waiting on the 28-30 in. deck
Yup, so many are
They showcased one at Equip, but it’s still a prototype so we weren’t able to hear it. Also the deck was composite.
We all are
Looks like the best one yet! Glad they incorporated the good things from previous years (LED Screen) and got rid of the not so good ones (SpeedIQ).

Very different models, I like this for me
I can’t speak for this new one but the aluminum model is the first battery mower I was really happy with. It’s very powerful.
Yeah, but it would be a nice touch if they included that, just like side discharge.
