I pulled the trigger last weekend. Coming from a Honda HRX 217. Short take. Very good power and much better suction than my earlier EGO. Exceptional mulching and bagging. A very clean cut with blades that came very sharp. Maybe an adjustment, but I'm not an immediate fan of the transmission. There is what I refer to as a turbo -lag. It takes about half a second to a second for the transmission to engage. A little problematic for me with a steep front lawn. Thank you for your review, it definitely helped with my purchase.
Thank you for buying and posting this. I have not been able to find any review videos on this supposedly released product (which is odd). EGO's release of this product has been really quiet/muted because I expected a few early bird review from some of their influencers to hit first. My local blue colored big box store says they have 3 in stock but when I went there to look in person, nobody knew where they were. I am seriously considering this as my 13 year old honda mower is ready to retire. I tried an EGO model in 2020 and ended up returning it because it wasnt quite powerful enough to cut my thick st. augustine lawn without missing blades. I was even hesitant to buy the 8+lbft EGO mowers because i was afraid it would not be as powerful as my honda mower. This one seems to be the one I have been waiting years for.
I own the Ego LM2167SP which is a kit that comes with a 12AH battery and their most powerful charger. Comes with mulching blade and high-lift blade too. Got it on sale for $599 which is about the same price as the battery if you buy it separately. Ppl hated the Speed-IQ self-propel but I got used to it by now. It still cuts my grass great. Just have to maintain it good and clean underneath the deck after every use which isn't that hard.
I have been a landscape contractor for 30 years, and we use 21' commercial mower's daily. They have steel aluminum decks and hold up nicely. I have to say this ego mower is very nice. It's reasonably priced. I think ego has some nice equipment out.
@TechMadeEzy Hello im looking at either this one or the 2156 model. Which one do you recommend? I have a smaller lawn which takes about 15 minutes to cut. And as of now I got a 24volt kobalt mower that doesn't have much power and constantly shuts off even with low grass
After 8 years of mowing with my little ryobi 18v mower ,its finally worn out. It cant cut my front lawn well anymore because the grass has gotten too thick. Ive been eyeing Ego for a while , I like their battery system as opposed to ryobi 40v because ryobi seems to really cheapened up even more on quality over the past few years. I picked up this new Ego over the weekend and cant wait to try it out
I completed my first mow here in Florida (Empire Zoysia) and the cut quality of this new mower is superb. It's on par with my Super Recycler 190cc and HRX217 200cc both set to 3,360 rpm. Operation and handling of the Ego are nice. Run time is good on Speed #2 and Turbo mode. I really dislike the screamy-whiney electric motor drive system though. It's embarrassingly loud and to me, makes the mower sound toy-car-cheap and just as loud as my gassers. The high pitch screaming gear whine drowns out the nice quiet blade whir sadly. Is this sound normal for Egos? This is my first. The blade length thing you spoke of is definitely scammy-feeling on Ego's behalf. I measured the blades on my Honda and Toro this morning and they too are 21" long like the Ego blade... the only difference is that while Ego deceptively markets this as a "22 inch blade & cut," Honda and Toro appropriately market theirs as a "21 inch cut." Ego's approach feels scammy to me. That's how I see it. On a side note, the Ego blades are flimsy & flexy (and softer steel) than the Toro and Honda blades... by quite a bit. Also, they are not available anywhere as of yet. Can't wait for your review and take on this stuff. Steve
Thanks for this. If it’s loud and annoying af like a few of my neighbors dewalt battery leaf blowers I’ll pass on this thing. They think it’s not a disturbance because it’s not a gasser but clearly some of the battery blowers are more annoying than a regular old gas blower.
Awesome machine, I understand not including some items if they are uncommon and helps keeps the overall retail price lower but EGO should provide a way for us to buy them 1 time at cost instead of paying retail prices for them.
Thanks for making this video, good overview of this new mower. That said, this price seems outrageous. I got the Select Cut XP with 10ah battery on sale at lowes last summer for $649. It included the extra blade and side discharge. I cant imagine that the change to a steel deck and updated motor is worth double the price. I think the only way I'll change to another mower is if Ego releases a 30" mower.
I like this, but I'd never want to give up my light weight and nimble models. Moving our mowers around the basement is easy, and I even put our old LM2000-S in a bike trailer to take across town.
Thanks for this great review. It seems like Ego is positioning this to compete with the Milwaukee aluminum deck battery mower. It'd be great to see a comparison of this Ego aluminum against the Milwaukee.
I remember earlier Ego mowers did not come with a side discharge attachment either but all you had to was contact Ego and request one and they would give it to u for free. Great video like always but remember the most important part is how the mower performs which you will do in the spring.
I have 2 lawnmowers and to keep it short they both wouldn't start and the rain for the last week has my lawn growing crazy. I went to Lowe's and said screw it I want the top dog and bought it even though it was pretty expensive. I wish I watched this awesome video before I got it to make setup way faster. I was trying to figure out where side discharge was, and why two mulch blade's, and why it had Bluetooth. This is my fifth ego product and I love each one. No gas, no oil, no carburetor getting clogged up, no air filter, and no pull string. I cut my lawn with the mulch accessory in and the bag on lol. I didn't know it came in there 🤦🏾. I was wondering why the bag wasn't getting full. The mower did awesome, my grass was high and I didn't even I was mulching and it didn't leave any grass behind. This video answered all my questions, thank you so much 🙏🏼 Also when you register they will send you the high lift blade for Free.
@@shangrilaladeda It's his 5th Ego product, not Ego lawnmower. It sounds like it's his first Ego lawnmower. They have amazing string trimmers, hedge trimmers etc. I have 4 other Ego products besides my mower myself and my lawn mower just turned 8.
Conns: not a true 22" blade No side discharge plug Price $. Good video, can't wait to see it in action, hopefully cutting tall tough grass and shooting it threw the side
I don't know why, but as a homeowner who currently has lots of EGO products and batteries, but ended up going back to gas mower... the mower that most interest me is EGO's new commercial mower lmx5300sp. That mower is similar but takes two batteries and seems more powerful. I am considering buying the commercial tool only model.
Mind sharing what led you back to gas? I recently bought a Honda HRX217KVA on clearance at HD. Was debating gas and electric but came down to power per dollar and longevity over the years. I have heard of cells dying within a year or two, and batteries having thermal protection circuits keeping guys from finishing their mow until batteries cool off.
@@GamerNxUSN Batteries kept dying and not enough power when compared to gas. I have a HRX217HYA and am happy with the cutting and mulching performance. It's like having a vacuum mulcher on wheels. The EGO mowers I tried did cut the grass, but didn't perform as well as a Honda. Meanwhile I am 5 years in owning other Ego products and I like their blowers, multi head tools, and chainsaw. Those other tools are actually top quality... but I've had to warranty most of my batteries and buy new ones which is more expensive than gas.
Thanks for the video. Picked one up this week. Mine came with the high lift blade. Also had an offer for a free second lift blade when you register the mower. I registered but the blade offer was not mentioned. Agree on the side discharge, should have came with it for price. I’d never use it so not a big deal.
I don't rear side discharge, nor use the high lift blade, so not including them means less extra crap in my garage, which is a bonus for me. Not that I have any interest in replacing my current Ego mower with one that costs 3x as much. The improvements do look nice, though. I wish they sold a non-self propelled model to reduce cost and complexity.
Thanks for the very thorough and upbeat review. I think the Aluminum deck and the Greenworks steel decks are needed and the right way to go for these. That said this is a ridiculous price for a mower without side discharge. I may be in the minority but I do mostly side discharging with my Husqvarna Honda lawn mower and the shoot should be on the deck not out the back. That said the cost of this unit plus the battery replacement after 5 + years is a deal-breaker for me and most people who are just using the lawn mower to cut their own property. What's next leasing or financing your lawn mower??
Great videos, I was going to upgrade to this mower but I think I’m going to wait another year or two they making lots of changes it seems they can’t find the right one yet
I can see why they did what they did, but this is definitely version 1.0 to test the market. I just grabbed the curved pole edger from cutlers at Christmas. Excited to finally have my first edger and test it out.
Looks like a great mower. I have the lm2130sp. This woukd be too heavy for my usage as i load it in my 2017 chevy bolt ev to mow other lawns. I have never saw the need for aluminum deck. No cracks in my plastic deck. I bought my mower in 2019
Thanks Nathan, on a side note Steve mentioned your conversation with him on FB, yes he's my guy for social media! thanks for always staying with us, sure appreciate your support.
I maybe upgrading my mower in a year or so. In your opinion what would be the best option not counting the commercial model. I was thinking of the 2156xp self propelled model. Thanks for your opinion
Another excellent review, I think the aluminum is a nice change to the poly decks or the occasional 20 inch steel deck, im still rockin my mower and it’s kicking butt. Love the in depth review, keep on going, Brooklyn is smiling down on us all😇🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thanks for posting this in-depth early review. I've been eyeing this mower since its announcement as a possible replacement for my Honda HR215 SX (with aluminum deck!) which, after 30 years, is giving me nothing but headaches lately. The aluminum deck and improved self-propelled function on this EGO mower makes it an attractive replacement. The EGO is an expensive mower, but the Honda was too. Might be time to give this new mower a try.
Shiny! I haven't used a cast-aluminum deck mower since my Dad's 1970 Craftsman. That mower lasted 30 years. After two gas mowers since then, he uses an Ego now.
I saw you mentioned not able to connect the mower to the app, it seem you can not connect it to the ego power + app but you can connect it to the ego connect app. to interesting feature listed in the app I have noticed but have yet to try is the ability to set max self propelled speed, which factory default is set slightly be low max 4mph speed. Also feature called super turbo mode, which seems to increase the speed of the turbo mode setting. As some others have mentioned that it comes with an extra mulching blade and no longer the high lift blade. there is a pamphlet in there that if you register in 90 day you can get a free high lift blade. I called up and looked into this, so its not automatic after you register, you have to call and request and mention the pamphlet and they will take your information to send you the high lift blade, they process it like a warranty claim. I am waiting to get mine.
Thank you for the video Al. I’m excited to see how it performs in the spring, but seems there are a fair bit of trade offs compared to the LM2156SP for that aluminum deck. I’ll be debating between this EGO model and the M18 mower come spring.
Fantastic review👍 i hope this model is coming to Europe....all we have here is the 2130 model.....and i need a powerful machine for my garden.... lots of shade amd mostly wet.....
This definitely appears to be more of a commercial grade mower, geared towards the professionals in the industry. Im glad that speed IQ got the boot haha. Howerver, im not a fan of the deck height adjustments, thet should have just put the cutting height at the numbers instead of placeholders. Overall, im sold on it and will be picking one up this season
I was really hoping for an actual 22 inch blade but realistically I figured they'd have a 22 inch deck and 21.5 inch blade. Little disappointing to see but it's still on par with milwaukee's 21 inch mower. It's nice to see they upgraded the cutting hight system, although that's really what all their other mowers should have offered, my 2156 sp can't mow evenly if I'm going on a slight grade, going slightly uphill cuts about 1/4 higher than downhill, you can physically see the deck raising when you engage self propel, very disappointing design flaw on ego's end.
I have every ego tool. This is my 4th or 5th ego mower. I have this one, there's something going on with the lights, I can get them on, but I have to remove the battery to get them to turn off. It bogged down on me a couple of times, and the turbo mode chews through batteries. I think dual battery 24-26 inch would have been ideal.
I love the clean appearance to the underside. I think the extra weight should improve cut quality. Previous models have been a bit bouncy, especially in the front end. Blade / deck width do not match up to reality. Try this for your own personal experience. Measure front to back and left to right. I found that measuring the deck front to back is longer and closer to advertised length on my LM2150SP. Most likely it’s a proprietary design choice.
Hi Al, In your pros & cons you mentioned that this mower has 3500 rpm. It actually has 3350 rpm, just FYI. Also, I contacted EGO to ask what the rpm was for the 1 and 2 speeds. Here is what they said 3 different times I called them: Speed 1 = 2650 rpm, Speed 2 = 2850 rpm, and Speed 3 (Turbo) is 3100 rpm. Each time I called EGO they responded with the same thing; 3100 rpm for turbo as well as the same rpm for speeds 1 and 2. I asked why there was a discrepancy in the turbo rpm’s, when their specs say 3350 rpm. They said that the only way to get the 3350 rpm is with the app on your cell phone. That sounded crazy to me, but that’s what they said. Although they advertise 3350 on their website specs, you only get 3100 rpm in turbo mode without using the cell phone app. And for those who don’t have web-enabled cell phones, you won’t get more than 3100 rpm. To me EGO should make that information clear on their website, as well as make it clear that no side -discharge or high-lift blade is included.
Who does not have a Web-enabled cell phone? every single one manufactured in the last 10 years has been web-enabled. also it says on the box what comes inside and mine came with a pamphlet that with registration you get a free high-lift blade
Hello im looking at either this one or the 2156 model. Which one do you recommend? I have a smaller lawn which takes about 15 minutes to cut. And as of now I got a 24volt kobalt mower that doesn't have much power and constantly shuts off even with low grass
Thanks for the review. This looks awesome. I have an old model, but its not powerfully enough to cut zoysia or to lift tree leaves. Im probably not buying this now totally out of my budget. Maybe in the future when I actually need a new mower. Would like to see hoc down to 3/4", harder metal on the blades, and back drum or at least to be compatible with their striping kit.
I have last year’s model with the crappy Speed IQ. I always mulch and never use the bag so it hadn’t occurred to me that the bar would get it the way of putting on and removing the bag. Being a bit of the shorter side, I wish I the safety feature could be by-passed and could run the mower with the handle not fully extended. And I’d really would rather have the self-propel on the front wheel instead of on the rear. I push down on the handle when I get to the end of a row and want to pivot and u-turn 180°, so having rear wheels continuing to turn messes me up. But, boy, this newer version looks good. I guess EGO is going to keep releasing a new model every year with new and different features. They’re treating us customers as guinea pigs testers.
Still locks up and here is a video we did comparing the noise NOISE TESTED EGO Select Cut LM2206sp vs EGO Select cut LM2156sp ruclips.net/video/toRlAAeAyYk/видео.html
Concerning the blade length, blades are nominal measurements and not actual but 1 inch difference seems like quite a bit difference from nominal to actual. Seems like Ego wanted to make something a bit better than the residential units but not quite commercial. The price seems to reflect that. Do you think you will try out the commercial version of this mower?
Love the mower EXCEPT! no digital screen is a major backwards step for me. I liked being able to see the battery percentage as I’m using it. Maybe if the new display had 5 lights across the top to indicate 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100% just like the charger instead of just 1 green light that goes red when it’s dead then I’d be ok with it but as it is… no thanks ego
Seen a couple reviews stating the Self Propel drive is insanely loud. Have yet to see a video of it in action. Is this true? 1 of the reviews said they returned it for that reason.
I’m okay with this mower not shipping with a rear side discharge as I like a more manicured look on my lawn, plus paying for something I would never use would be upsetting. Thinking about their new mower not shipping with a high lift blade but a second mulching blade could also be a positive. With the deck design the testing might have shown that the mulching blade was the best option for cutting between the two blade designs. Having a spare blade shipped with the mower is a real plus. The only disappointing aspect of this mower is the IP rating. Washing mowers is pretty standard and only having a splash rating is underwhelming, especially for a mower with electric power by battery and possible water intrusion into the battery storage area. Hopefully under usage this might be nullified. Nice video on the overview of this machine. I will look forward to seeing an update of it in use. 😎👍
Let me start off by saying that I currently have 5 pieces of Ego equipment (push mower, blower, edger, trimmer, hedge trimmer). I feel like this mower (and Ego, in general, for the past 3-4 years) continues to miss the mark by continuing to move more upscale in their existing product lines while ignoring the glaring holes in their lineup. How much of a market is there for a $1200 walk-behind mower? If I needed all of the new features included with this mower (which are minimal) I'd likely be better off with a riding mower or hiring a lawn care company. Metal deck: Not really necessary with a battery powered mower. They don't vibrate anything like a gas mower, so you're much less likely to ever crack a plastic deck under normal conditions. If you're hitting rocks, twigs, debris then you are going to tear up most mowers eventually. Bigger front wheels: So what? It's not going to make a noticeable difference. Bluetooth: Seriously? It's a mower. Bigger battery: A bigger battery only matters IF the runtime is extended. It doesn't appear that runtime is longer by any appreciable extent. They need the bigger battery just to keep the runtime close to 1 hour, given the heavier mower, bigger motor, etc. If it can't run longer or mow a bigger yard then it's just more money. The average lawn is 3000-4000sf. This mower won't be a difference maker for the average homeowner. If I had known this was the direction that Ega was headed when I bought my first pieces then I would have gone with another platform. I would have more options for less money if I had gone with Ryobi 40v, Skil 40v, or one of the (many) Greenworks platforms.
I have used your reviews a lot to gain information on the EGO LM2206SP. Wondering approximately when you will have a video showing this new aluminum wonder mower actually running? I have checked reviews posted on Lowes of which I found 3 reviews. Two of the reviewers have taken this ego mower back for a refund due to what they describe as a "deafening and unbearable" gear whine when using self-propelled feature. One reviewer said that even using 35db ear plugs did not really help block out the gear whinning noise, but apparently even that did not work. Would like to see and hear this mower run to decide if this is true. Like you said, that a lot of money to spend and I have already had to fight for a refund on the last mower they made which the self-propel feature was an absolute problem.
Ray thank you, I did see some videos where the self-propelled was pretty darn loud but it wasn't cutting grass. Well it's February it's still pretty cold out and I'm in the Northeast so I'm not going to have any grass to cut for a while. But when I do I promise I will share thanks for your support
Have you tested this beast yet? I'm going to upgrade my old Ego to the newer models and Im torn between this one and the LM2156SP. Which one would you get if you were to upgrade an Ego mower from 2015?
Could you please show if you are able to change the blade speed while running? One of my gripes with the last mower is that you could only activate turbo when disengaging the blade.
I just bought mine from Lowes after Ego had me return my Speed IQ mower that I had for 6 months after complaining about the Speed IQ feature. Mine had a card inside stating that if you registered it within 10 days they will send you the high lift blade for free. I’m really bummed about the noisy self propelled motor. It sounds like a kids battery operated ride on car. This mower should have come with the 12ah battery and the cell phone case and the high lift blade that the Speed IQ mower did at this price point. No grass yet to cut to be certain I will keep it
Let us know if it’s really that much better than the Select Cut XP. Personally I wanted a steel deck, side discharge, more power than the Select Cut XP, but I couldn’t resist an 80V Greenworks 21 inch self propelled with 2 batteries for $350 shipped.
Wow! Great review. A couple of thoughts. Blade length 21" to me means a 21" cut. No high lift blade 🤔 Possibly not needed with the new deck and higher torque. I'm also wondering if my high lift blade would work if I wanted to use a high lift blade. No side discharge shoot. I don't side discharge, I always mulch, but would my side discharge shoot fit and work ok should I want to side discharge. Al, again, great review. I can't wait to see the first cut this Spring. I know it's pricey but being all in with EGO equipment, if the cut shows an improvement, I'll probably get the tool only😊 Have a great weekend 👍
Hi Frank the high lift made or new mulching blade was talked about. UT these seem like standard mulch blades. Not sure if the previous select cut blades will work but good question. Thanks buddy
I LOVE last year's speed iq model with the 12 amp battery. I've been keeping up with my 1 acre property with it for a year now, not a single issue. Once I got the hang of speed iq, I couldn't imagine going back to using buttons and levers again. Even after the battery craps out, I'm hanging on to this bad boy.
At these prices, many buyers will be shopping for gas alternatives, where you can get the best Honda makes for cheaper than this…and the discharge chute will be included!
The best Honda makes is $999, for $200 more you never have to worry about oil and gas again. + 10 Amp battery into ego platform + a more powerful mower then honda according to specs. you also get aluminum deck vs honda plastic deck. Seems like a fine deal
I would just buy another brand. I brought the Ryobi mower for 300. Had it for over 3 years. I think Ryobi new mower go for like 3 something, not as good as the EGO but, for the savings, I'll get that over this. I'm sorry, not sorry
@LeDude1 I disagree, 1200 is too steep. There are other Battery mowers that are starting at 300 on sale. May not be the quality but still a better deal. I can get 3 Ryobi mowers for this price and they come with a 3 year warranty. No one needs a life time on the frame. The battery or motor will go after that 5 years and you will have to buy a new mower anyway
@@TechMadeEzy I did, but I already have an EGO mower and string trimmer, so I'm already invested in EGO's line. I'm just wondering if/when I should upgrade my old mower for a newer model. But those head to head ones are great for those that haven't purchased a product line yet!
I have a samll yard so i have no need for something like this. However, I dont understand this product. What I like about my EGO is that its light, it makes it easy to use and store. So they really have just made a gas mower with an electric motor with this one. I have to say, i would just buy a gas mower over spending $1200.
I can't find the EGO 22" High Lift bagging blade anywhere. And, I understand when it is available it's $50! Will this model bag if the grass bag is attached using the mulching blades? (My honda 217 HRX did)
The high lift blade can be had free if you register in 90 days, and call support asking about how to get the free high lift bagging blade mentioned on the pamphlet that comes with the mower. Lust got mine took about 2.5 weeks to get it. Its not that the blade cost $50 dollars, it is that it seems it can't be bought separately at least yet. The $50 is for the High lift Bagging blade and the main cutting blade set.
Looked at this mower but $1200?? And how much for a replacement battery in 3 years? But tempting. Heard too many say stay away from electric. I ended up getting the Honda HRN 216 for $550 about a week ago. I think it will have plenty of power for my needs and a huge improvement over my current Murray 4.5 hp that’s falling apart. BTW yes Honda no longer makes lawnmowers but there’s still plenty out there if you look.
Definitely an expensive one, but it passed our test really gave a nice cut. The battery warranty will be five years as long as you register the battery that comes with this unit the 10ah
Great review. Seems you covered about as much as possible without mowing. I'd definitely be calling EGO to find out why you got 2 mulching blades. Looks like Mark, below, got a high lift blade with his. It's fascinating that EGO made an aluminum deck and didn't incorporate side discharge right into the deck like most metal deck mowers have. Why they stick to that very sorry excuse for side discharge out the rear is confusing now that they have a chance to move it. (Guessing it's because this deck is cast instead of stamped so it would be trickier to implement.) But, yeah, it should include a chute for their side discharge for the price of this mower. Their marketing dept gets them in more trouble with their customers. They say this one has a 22" blade and you proved it doesn't have one. I mean it's the same as the 21" mowers. That blade is only 20" or so. But, still, they need to stop making a claim as to size or performance when it isn't accurate. Now, go find some tall grass somwhere and put 'er through its paces. We can't wait for a cutting video. LOL
Mike thanks! It's weird because the packing list of what's included didn't state high lift blade so we will see as folks comment. As always appreciate your comments and perspective 👍🏻 now we wait for grass
@@TechMadeEzy any idea on timing on testing the LMX5300sp as I would like to buy it soon but want to know how good it is in the wet as the standard 21” Ego machines (looking at one review) only gave it 2.8 out of 5 for damp/wet grass performance and as a contractor I don’t want to spend £2k (machine, charger and 2 x 10ah batteries) and then find it is useless in the wet! Thanks
I gotta tell you the 24 inch I use that I went to check out the 28 inch it is huge and it’s definitely heavier to maneuver. Yes it’ll fit 2 x 12Ah batteries for sure.
To clarify .... 12 AH batteries (from the 28" snowblower) will fit this mower ... physical size. Showing the 10AH batteries in place in the video did not show much extra space for a a physically larger battery.
Greenworks new 30" commercial for 2024 looks very promising. I've used ego casually and on jobs for years. You'd need about 3 12Ah batteries to mow over 1/2 acre, you might need to cycle them out. The discharge chute design is super annoying. I'm currently transitioning over to Stihl electric for some jobs. The mulching blades will cause grass to collect under the deck and clog it up under most conditions.
Big thick grass will definitely use more battery. It also depends on the size of your lawn. You can always get more batteries. Actually there’s a sale right now on this mower and they give you another battery but it is a small battery. amzn.to/3wELTt0
Thanks for the review! I’d never buy this mower though, because 1) it’s too heavy to take up the stairs between my front and back yards, 2) it’s too big to store where I currently store my other Ego mower - I prefer the retractable handle, 3) I don’t care about or need a heavier aluminum deck - my old Ego deck is perfect, 4) I’d never pay so much for another inch or so of width, 5) I don’t need Bluetooth on my lawn mower. This unit looks like they just tried to make a more expensive mower and 6) it’s way too expensive for a rotary lawn mower. At this weight and price, I’d buy a powered reel mower, which has a vastly superior cut. Sorry Ego.
Also make sure that you register your LM2206sp on the EGO Connect Application- you will be able to increase the self propel up to 4 mph and also increase maximum turbo from 3100 to 3350. It still is an excellent mower without the application, but if you want to maximize the potential… connect it and adjust.
I've been looking into electric mowers and ego has been doing this stuff for like 10+ years, has like 5 generations of products so they know how to make a darn good mower with their battery system.. but at 1200 bucks for just the mower I'm going to HAVE to shop for the milwaukee mower that comes with the weed-eater for 1100. Everything I've seen, both companies make great mowers, it's just milwaukee was supposed to be the expensive, commercial option, ego was the cheaper household name.
I picked up my LM2206SP at Lowes last night and unboxed it this morning. Unfortunately it's got to go back. Mine has 2 deep gouges on the black front grab bar (one an inch and half long and the other a quarter inch long) that were both sloppily colored over with a heavy black paint pen. Honestly, it looks like my 2-year-old drew on it. I phoned Ego Customer Service and emailed them pictures just now. They kindly told me that parts aren't available and suggested I return it to Lowes. Is it just me, or is it discouraging that Ego would patch up $1,200 mower in this way, give it to their customer and say, "here you go, pay us for this, this is considered a-okay by our standards." That management model alone tells me a lot about the brand and if I were part of the Ego steering team, I don't think I'd be very proud of that policy and resulting customer experience.
@TechMadeEzy Thank you, I really appreciate that. Things had a happy ending today. Lowes processed the exchange happily and the new unit looks great. P.S. Thank you for all your Ego reviews. They've been very helpful.
Another unfortunate update to my Ego experience. My replacement unit pulled hard to the right, just like an angry shopping cart. So much so that I was fighting to keep it running straight. It wore my wrists out after a few minutes of use, ugh. Turns out the left front wheel (the one with the height adjuster) was bent inward. The pieces were all straight so guessing the heat from the welds pulled it out of whack. When viewed from above, the situation was obvious excessive tow in. Lowes took it back too, no problem. I'm tapping out. The QC seems poor on this new mower. Hope you have better luck with yours and I look forward to your review.
I called EGO support on 2/26/24 and found out EGO does NOT sell a side discharge chute for the LM2206SP. I told the rep I could not find that accessory on EGO website and the rep said "well then EGO does not sell it." I find a SDC to be very necessary occasionally so no purchase for me.
I'm not even sure if they're going to sell it separately but the commercial model I believe might include it I'm not 100% on that but it's crazy with the prices as high as they are
@@TechMadeEzyFeels like they rushed this out of the door, no app pairing, no discharge chute, no high lift blade. I think they may become available in a year.
This, or the Makita XGT GML01PL with two 8AH batteries for $1299? Damn these things are expensive. Or…the Ego 2156 is $749 right now with the 10AH battery plus a 5AH?
As of 03/06/24, if you click on the Tech Made Easy link above, there is also this mower (22") with the 10AH battery plus an additional 5AH battery for $1199.99. A $299.00 savings. Also, check your state, city, and utility company. Many are offering rebates on electric powered equipment. There are even greater rebates if you are a commercial contractor. I am looking forward to your first cut/performance video. Thank you for your content. You always produce good, relevant content. I'm sorry about your pup!
Hey thanks! Glad it helped
Thanks Chris
I own the Ego LM2167SP which is a kit that comes with a 12AH battery and their most powerful charger. Comes with mulching blade and high-lift blade too. Got it on sale for $599 which is about the same price as the battery if you buy it separately.
Ppl hated the Speed-IQ self-propel but I got used to it by now. It still cuts my grass great. Just have to maintain it good and clean underneath the deck after every use which isn't that hard.
Yup, we reviewed that a bunch of times, great deal 👍🏼
I am currently looking for a discount price. Can you help with a link please?
I have been a landscape contractor for 30 years, and we use 21' commercial mower's daily. They have steel aluminum decks and hold up nicely. I have to say this ego mower is very nice. It's reasonably priced. I think ego has some nice equipment out.
Thanks Ben
@TechMadeEzy Hello im looking at either this one or the 2156 model. Which one do you recommend? I have a smaller lawn which takes about 15 minutes to cut. And as of now I got a 24volt kobalt mower that doesn't have much power and constantly shuts off even with low grass
@bobbywiegner525 hi Bobby I am still working on my review on the newer model
Reasonable priced? 😂
I picked up this new Ego over the weekend and cant wait to try it out
Good luck, Scott I hope it works great for you
I completed my first mow here in Florida (Empire Zoysia) and the cut quality of this new mower is superb.
Steve
Thanks for sharing that’s really good news. Yes Ego mowers are known to make that sound.
Thanks for this. If it’s loud and annoying af like a few of my neighbors dewalt battery leaf blowers I’ll pass on this thing. They think it’s not a disturbance because it’s not a gasser but clearly some of the battery blowers are more annoying than a regular old gas blower.
I’ve been cutting my grass with a reel mower past 6 years no gas no battery and you can’t beat the cut you get from these
Awesome machine, I understand not including some items if they are uncommon and helps keeps the overall retail price lower but EGO should provide a way for us to buy them 1 time at cost instead of paying retail prices for them.
I called ego yesterday 8/21/24 and there sending me the side discharge and high lift blade for free
@tlw3889 good to hear thanks for sharing
Thanks for making this video, good overview of this new mower. That said, this price seems outrageous. I got the Select Cut XP with 10ah battery on sale at lowes last summer for $649. It included the extra blade and side discharge. I cant imagine that the change to a steel deck and updated motor is worth double the price. I think the only way I'll change to another mower is if Ego releases a 30" mower.
$649 was a steal! Thanks for hanging with us 👍🏻
I like this, but I'd never want to give up my light weight and nimble models.
Excellent unboxing and review Tech! I’m looking forward to seeing your first mow!
Thanks, Lindsay
You and me both!
I remember earlier Ego mowers did not come with a side discharge attachment either but all you had to was contact Ego and request one and they would give it to u for free. Great video like always but remember the most important part is how the mower performs which you will do in the spring.
Great point
Mine came with side discharge. I've used it twice in six years. So, I don't care if there is no side discharge.
5 lawn mowers is very excessive to have especially since ego is not that even old of a company
@@frommatorav1 congratulations
Conns: not a true 22" blade
No side discharge plug
Price $.
Good video, can't wait to see it in action, hopefully cutting tall tough grass and shooting it threw the side
So sorry about Brooklyn. We love our babies.
Thanks buddy it’s hard on everyone especially when you love your pets
That's weird, the packing list doesn't mention it coming with the high lift, we'll you got it, nice!
Where did you find one?
@markluna9186 is you blade 21 or 22.inches long?
Mine came with 2 mulching blades and the offer of the free high-lift with product registration. I see upon registration, EGO lists the mower as 21.7".
@@robertk1726😅😅EGO should correct that. No good
I like it. I do not use the slef propelled. A lot of money but it really does seem so well made and durable.
Do you own this mower
@@TechMadeEzy yes
Enjoy, stay in touch let me know how things go
I don't rear side discharge, nor use the high lift blade, so not including them means less extra crap in my garage, which is a bonus for me.
Thais for sharing
Great videos, I was going to upgrade to this mower but I think I’m going to wait another year or two they making lots of changes it seems they can’t find the right one yet
I hear you 👍🏼
HEY>>>>>> first time visiting your site>>>>>>>>>>>>>GREAT REVIEW!!
Thank you so much I hope you stay with us and what more do you own by the way?
I can see why they did what they did, but this is definitely version 1.0 to test the market. I just grabbed the curved pole edger from cutlers at Christmas. Excited to finally have my first edger and test it out.
That’s a nice looking mower can’t wait to see how it runs!! Great in depth reviews as always. Thanks for sharing
Thanks buddy
@nathandingman6846 that’s the one I would do it’s proven it works fine LM2156sp
@@TechMadeEzySame here.🤜🤛
I like the lever for speed control
Not sure if you noticed but they give a free high lift bagging blade when you register within 90 days
I heard I didn’t see anything in the box. I guess we’ll find out but thank you for your note.
Another excellent review, I think the aluminum is a nice change to the poly decks or the occasional 20 inch steel deck, im still rockin my mower and it’s kicking butt. Love the in depth review, keep on going, Brooklyn is smiling down on us all😇🙏🏼🙏🏼
Alex thank you
Thanks for posting this in-depth early review.
Thanks Ryan
Shiny! I haven't used a cast-aluminum deck mower since my Dad's 1970 Craftsman. That mower lasted 30 years. After two gas mowers since then, he uses an Ego now.
👍🏼
Thanks buddy
Thank you for the video Al. I’m excited to see how it performs in the spring, but seems there are a fair bit of trade offs compared to the LM2156SP for that aluminum deck.
I’ll be debating between this EGO model and the M18 mower come spring.
Thanks buddy
Fantastic review👍 i hope this model is coming to Europe....all we have here is the 2130 model.....and i need a powerful machine for my garden.... lots of shade amd mostly wet.....
Roy thank you
This definitely appears to be more of a commercial grade mower, geared towards the professionals in the industry. Im glad that speed IQ got the boot haha. Howerver, im not a fan of the deck height adjustments, thet should have just put the cutting height at the numbers instead of placeholders. Overall, im sold on it and will be picking one up this season
They are actually coming out with a commercial model believe it or not but I'm with you on the deck adjustment
My Local Northern Tools has a special from Ego with an extra battery, not sure if it comes with the extra battery or Ego mails you one
I was really hoping for an actual 22 inch blade but realistically I figured they'd have a 22 inch deck and 21.5 inch blade. Little disappointing to see but it's still on par with milwaukee's 21 inch mower. It's nice to see they upgraded the cutting hight system, although that's really what all their other mowers should have offered, my 2156 sp can't mow evenly if I'm going on a slight grade, going slightly uphill cuts about 1/4 higher than downhill, you can physically see the deck raising when you engage self propel, very disappointing design flaw on ego's end.
thanks for watching
The price is nutts.
Oh yessss... no good. Way too expensive 😢😮😢😢
I've been using battery powered mowers for the last few years, but you can get a Time Master for that kind of money.
I agree they are getting expensive thanks for watching
I have every ego tool. This is my 4th or 5th ego mower. I have this one, there's something going on with the lights, I can get them on, but I have to remove the battery to get them to turn off. It bogged down on me a couple of times, and the turbo mode chews through batteries. I think dual battery 24-26 inch would have been ideal.
Hope you do a warranty claim or exchange it if you bought it at Lowe’s?
Great video.
I'm waiting for the lmx5300sp.
Im told they're rushing it to market here in Australia due to high commercial demand.
That will be interesting
It’s a hybrid mulch blade that allows max lift sort of a two in one no high lift blade necessary
It's funny because ego is actually sending me one so I guess there is one that exists
I will, thanks Matthew good points
What do you use to clean the bottom of your mower? , 21” plastic bottom….
This is a video I did below but I use a plastic scraper normally

Hi Al,
In your pros & cons you mentioned that this mower has 3500 rpm.
Excellent information, appreciate you sharing!
Hello im looking at either this one or the 2156 model. Which one do you recommend? I have a smaller lawn which takes about 15 minutes to cut. And as of now I got a 24volt kobalt mower that doesn't have much power and constantly shuts off even with low grass
Bobby I saw your original post, I’m currently in the middle of reviewing the newer model
Thanks, can't wait for the weather to warm up so we can try this out
I'd rather have 2 mulch blades than a high lift blade, and nobody does side discharge anymore on a push mower. Bravo Ego.
The high lift play is also good when you're cleaning up your lawn if you have too much mulch so it does come in handy
You miss some details.. too bad. They should be included in the box.
I always use side discharge because the mulching on the 2156 is not good and I don't always want to bag it. Side discharge is a good middle ground.
Does the drive mechanism still screech and lock up when you need to move the mower back from a fixed object?
Still locks up and here is a video we did comparing the noise

Concerning the blade length, blades are nominal measurements and not actual but 1 inch difference seems like quite a bit difference from nominal to actual. Seems like Ego wanted to make something a bit better than the residential units but not quite commercial. The price seems to reflect that. Do you think you will try out the commercial version of this mower?
Hi not sure at $1300 tool only. Small channel still working a full time job also.
I'm a techie and I did like the actual screen with the battery percentage.
I noticed that on mine, I can see clearly see the battery bars (on the battery in its compartment) from the walk behind mowing position.
Seen a couple reviews stating the Self Propel drive is insanely loud. Have yet to see a video of it in action. Is this true? 1 of the reviews said they returned it for that reason.
Could you please tell me if the wheels 🛞 are rubber or plastic.
Hi we did a close up of the wheels in the video if that helps also, feels like rubber hard to tell for sure
😎👍
Thanks
Can you turn blades off and still use the self propel
yes
Thanks for sharing your point of view
@TechMadeEzy I think he is right. I will go with the LM2150SP to replace my LM2020SP. What do you think?
Unless the side discharge is an integral part of the deck, it's a no-go for me.
Not a lot of options for that anymore, even Toro uses rear side discharge these days.
Great review, thank you. I lappreciate that Ego continues to innovate. Price is a bit high for me, but otherwise a great new product.
Mark thank you
Have you tested this beast yet? I'm going to upgrade my old Ego to the newer models and Im torn between this one and the LM2156SP. Which one would you get if you were to upgrade an Ego mower from 2015?
Just got this and grass is still frozen, I like the 2156sp let's see how this does when the weather warms up.
Is this cheaper LM a bad alternative? Greenworks Pro MO80L421 21-inch self-propelled cordless 80v mower
Could you please show if you are able to change the blade speed while running? One of my gripes with the last mower is that you could only activate turbo when disengaging the blade.
I don't think you can but I should know once I can actually mow some grass.
you can
I just bought mine from Lowes after Ego had me return my Speed IQ mower that I had for 6 months after complaining about the Speed IQ feature. No grass yet to cut to be certain I will keep it
Thanks
As someone who got the Speed IQ model, it would have been nice to have this model last year. However, $1,200 USD for a lawn mower is getting insane.
Let us know if it’s really that much better than the Select Cut XP. Personally I wanted a steel deck, side discharge, more power than the Select Cut XP, but I couldn’t resist an 80V Greenworks 21 inch self propelled with 2 batteries for $350 shipped.
Will definitely do an update, $350 that's insane, you stole that!
Is a rear side discharge not available at all? I never bag, and been cutting grass for 70 years.😥
I'm not sure I haven't seen any thing on any websites that you can purchase it's weird
Toro has had metal and aluminum deck options for the 60 volt lines for years. I have both and were a lot less with a better self drive system.
I like the screen I have to say I like the percentage for the battery, but you’re probably aware they discontinued this Mower
At these prices, many buyers will be shopping for gas alternatives, where you can get the best Honda makes for cheaper than this…and the discharge chute will be included!
Unfortunately, Honda no longer makes lawn mowers.
The best Honda makes is $999, for $200 more you never have to worry about oil and gas again. + 10 Amp battery into ego platform + a more powerful mower then honda according to specs. you also get aluminum deck vs honda plastic deck. Seems like a fine deal
Honda no longer makes lawnmowers
Nice video. I'm going to holdout a bit longer. Sounds like they may have enough power/speed now that a much larger deck/cut size would be possible.
Thank you Rick
Looking forward to the comparison videos between this one and the previous generation(s)!
Did you see this ?

@@TechMadeEzy I did, but I already have an EGO mower and string trimmer, so I'm already invested in EGO's line. I'm just wondering if/when I should upgrade my old mower for a newer model. But those head to head ones are great for those that haven't purchased a product line yet!
Which model do you have ?
Great as always
Thank you! Cheers!
I have a samll yard so i have no need for something like this. However, I dont understand this product. What I like about my EGO is that its light, it makes it easy to use and store. So they really have just made a gas mower with an electric motor with this one. I have to say, i would just buy a gas mower over spending $1200.
I understand, I’m glad they still make many models even around $500
I can't find the EGO 22" High Lift bagging blade anywhere. And, I understand when it is available it's $50! Will this model bag if the grass bag is attached using the mulching blades? (My honda 217 HRX did)
Crazy
@@TechMadeEzy Do you know if the bag can be used with the existing blades since that high lift blade isn't available yet?
@tooagle yes why not. Of course the blade won’t offer a lot of suction but it’ll still cut and go into the bag.
Do they have a non self propelled system on the new models? I’d rather not have an extra thing that could break.
Hi no they don’t at this time but that can change if they launch one. I’m not aware they will but there is a possibility
Hi are you going to test the new LMX5300sp as looking at buying it? Thanks Andrew
I am, spring is just starting, I need me some nice grass :)
Great when will it be out as I would like to make a decision soon? Thanks
@Montie1960 👍🏻
Thanks
Also thinking about the new Ego 28" snowblower. Do you know if that 12 amp battery will fit in this mower?
I gotta tell you the 24 inch I use that I went to check out the 28 inch it is huge and it’s definitely heavier to maneuver. Yes it’ll fit 2 x 12Ah batteries for sure.
To clarify .... 12 AH batteries (from the 28" snowblower) will fit this mower ... physical size. Showing the 10AH batteries in place in the video did not show much extra space for a a physically larger battery.
Yup it will
@Hucklebuz it will fit 100%
RIP beautiful soul Brooklyn🐾♥🙏🙏🙏
Greenworks new 30" commercial for 2024 looks very promising. I've used ego casually and on jobs for years. You'd need about 3 12Ah batteries to mow over 1/2 acre, you might need to cycle them out. The discharge chute design is super annoying.
I'm currently transitioning over to Stihl electric for some jobs. The mulching blades will cause grass to collect under the deck and clog it up under most conditions.
I have this mower. I cant get the Bluetooth to work on it. Does anyone know if the app for it is up and running yet?
How many long hours to cut big thick grass and battery life?🙄
Big thick grass will definitely use more battery. It also depends on the size of your lawn. You can always get more batteries. Actually there’s a sale right now on this mower and they give you another battery but it is a small battery. amzn.to/3wELTt0
I can buy 2 Honda HRN216 and have $200 left over for gas. Not worth it
Thanks for the review! Sorry Ego.
is it smaller than the 2100 series? The body looks more compact, but it may just be the video.
Not sure if it is.
Also make sure that you register your LM2206sp on the EGO Connect Application- you will be able to increase the self propel up to 4 mph and also increase maximum turbo from 3100 to 3350. It still is an excellent mower without the application, but if you want to maximize the potential… connect it and adjust.
Can you wash off with a hose when needed?
Many have with the previous non aluminum models, EGO says you are not suppose to last I checked. I don't do it with my mowers.
@@TechMadeEzyThanks! Mowers get cruddy during the season in my world.
I hear you
I've been looking into electric mowers and ego has been doing this stuff for like 10+ years, has like 5 generations of products so they know how to make a darn good mower with their battery system.. but at 1200 bucks for just the mower I'm going to HAVE to shop for the milwaukee mower that comes with the weed-eater for 1100.
Is it just me, or is it discouraging that Ego would patch up $1,200 mower in this way, give it to their customer and say, "here you go, pay us for this, this is considered a-okay by our standards."
That management model alone tells me a lot about the brand and if I were part of the Ego steering team, I don't think I'd be very proud of that policy and resulting customer experience.
Sorry you had to go through all that
@TechMadeEzy Thank you, I really appreciate that. Things had a happy ending today. Lowes processed the exchange happily and the new unit looks great.
P.S. Thank you for all your Ego reviews. They've been very helpful.
@AEAC thanks for your support
EGO has very bad customer service policies. They don't stand behind their customers.
Man that sucker looks really nice! That’s the one for me when the sun starts to shine again!😂
Is the aluminum deck really necessary? There are thousands of mowers out there that have a composite deck and are holding up great.
The good news is they have many mowers to choose from with the polycarbonate deck. You don’t have to go with aluminum.
Has anyone seen the new commercial push mower
I called EGO support on 2/26/24 and found out EGO does NOT sell a side discharge chute for the LM2206SP. I told the rep I could not find that accessory on EGO website and the rep said "well then EGO does not sell it." I find a SDC to be very necessary occasionally so no purchase for me.
Maybe it will be out soon? The mower just launched.
No side discharge is a deal breaker. When grass is very tall, side discharge is the only option.
@davidshi6861 I can’t wait to start mowing, but I have no choice grass is starting to grow
It seems like an introductory commercial unit. Trying to appeal to the crew leader with the apps usage stats and possible location.
This, or the Makita XGT GML01PL with two 8AH batteries for $1299? Damn these things are expensive.
Or…the Ego 2156 is $749 right now with the 10AH battery plus a 5AH?
True prices are crazy but they do make other models with decent pricing like this one not sure how long the sale will last amzn.to/433Dxr0
2156 with a free battery at that price you can not beat.
I'm sorry about your pup!
i am watching this video even though i don't have the funds to purchase the mower
Well thank you! And just so you'll know there are many models some around $500 as well if you're looking for a battery operated mower
If EGO was not a greedy company, they would send you one for a special affordable price. This mower is too expensive.
@@rhoodj You get the lifting blade when you register it... for free. Is that affordable enough?
