Howard Stern knows his mower blades!
Lol 😂
I just noticed that when u typed it lol
It’s Howard not a doubt ….
Dude i thought Beetlejuice was about to make an appearance.
I originally was thinking Alan Alda but you are right, it's Howard. All he needs is an old man in the background yelling, "Don't be stupid, you Moron", and it would be perfect.
I viewed this video a few months ago and decided to refresh my memory by watching it again. Good the first time; GREAT the second time. Helped me a lot. Thank you.
Hi Gene thank you
Thanks!
Thank you
I've found that with the mulching blade there isn't even enough lift to pull the grass up that has been knocked down by the wheels on the previous pass. Makes for a real crappy looking lawn when all those tire marks eventually stand back up. I think this year I'll try the high lift blade and live with perhaps a poorer mulching performance.
@@demarcmj this was my exact experience as well. It’s worth the extra battery life because you don’t have to make multiple passes to try and clean it up.
That's exactly what I thought, and tried. I think the lift was a little better, but still not nearly as strong as it needs to be to get a good cut. The only way this mower might give a decent cut is if you find a blade made by someone else. To get good lift, the aero deflectors on the rear edge of the blade needs to be bent up nearly 45 degrees. The dual-blade setup is a gimmick that does not work. A single blade with a proper design is what is needed. Terrible lawnmower.
I purchased the first model ego mower years ago. Use liquid aeration and potassium (simple solution products)first of March (over-seed with peat moss and epsom salt) Every 5th of the month from April to November I have the mulching blade sharpened from Ace Hardware. Mow twice a week at 2 inches and use leaf blower. Add milorganite, organic kelp, humic acids, and root ruckus every 5 weeks. Sprinkler system on at 5am daily for 20 minutes. My lawn stays green all year around and looks like a bed of carpet.
Pictures to believe
Just the video I needed for all my EGO mowers (20", 21" Select Cut, 21" Select Cut XP)! Thank you, all these blade options has made it mystifying to understand which one does what, and I know that's not just me -- lots of questions on the EGO forums about the blades. Just the kind of breakdown I needed! Thanks!
Hi Jamal hope all is well thank you
Thank you for the video. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out what blade to get. I wish I would have seen your video first
Hi glad it helped
Thank you! Best comparison of EGO mower blades I've seen. Very helpful video!😊🎉
Thank you so much
Howard, I don’t care for your act on your day gig but I really like your RUclips videos.
You had my subscription at that awesome dog.
Thank you! Just bought the Ego Select XP and was very concerned that the battery didn’t last as long as I expected. Installed the extended run time blade and what a difference.
Thank you for your comment. I’m glad the video helped stay in touch. If you need any help, let us know. We’ll always try best.
Great comparison as always. I’ve had my select cut for a month now and I’m really liking it. My select cut came with all 3 blades. The high lift, mulching which came installed on the mower, and the extended run time blade. So I believe now all select cuts come with all three blades. My uncle bought the select cut the first year it came out and it came with only two blades.
Thank you, XP does, enjoy Dylan
@@TechMadeEzy my select cut non-xp also did
Can you combine the high lift blade and the mulching blade on the Select Cut XP, since it takes 2 blades ?
I originally used the mulching blades with side discharge but was getting clumps of mulch all over my yard. Once I use the plug for bottom discharge, the mower really showed its true power by breaking down the glass blades into really small mulching bits! Bottom discharge with confidence as you know that you’re feeding your lawn it’s own nutrients back to itself. And know that this mower possesses the power to do so at ease
Rear side discharge isn’t worth it, doesn’t work well at all
@@TechMadeEzy Need to use the High Lift Bagging Blade when planning to use the side discharge chute
@@jbien34 not sure if high lift blades would make a difference in the clumps when the clumps were forming from all the clippings coming out of the side discharge.
It doesn't clog with side discharge off?
It’s this mean right if I mulch so I donot need any bag more if I cut weekly ?
Great video on all the blades for the ego mowers. To expand a little more for the people who care, the reason for those teeth on the mulching blade or the gator blade is to grab the grass blades and keep the cut grass blades rotating under the deck longer, which helps to continue chopping up the grass blades more while they're under there. The high lift blade is also good to use with the side discharge chute since it creates more suction, which in turn creates more force to spit out the grass. If you're mowing regularly, it's really just a matter of preference. Also, I'm waiting on ego to make a 30" push mower. So if you're reading this Ego 😉
Thanks for the tip. I’m curious to try the HL blade with side discharge, since the mulch blade cut is so-so. Not sure if I need to go slower or take smaller passes.
@@DavidErato it could be a number of things as far as cut quality. How high are you cutting? Of course there's the argument that the ego mower just doesn't have the power as some other mowers, but if some of your grass just isn't growing straight up and some of it is laying down and intermingling with other grass like short hair with no gel in it, that could be part of the issue. Last season, I wasn't satisfied with the quality of cut either whether I was using the mulching blade or hl blade with side discharge (I like to cut mine on the highest setting from spring all the way through summer, then lower it in fall.) Grass can be more prone to laying over when it's longer. This year, I applied a product with more potassium in it and a dose of calcium and ever since then, my grass has stood straight up (that's what she said) and as a result, I have a better cut quality. It seems those nutrients are like Viagra for the grass lol. But those are my results, so I would take it all with a grain of salt. I wouldn't encourage someone to go blindly spraying their entire yard down with that stuff without the knowledge of how those things affect the grass and the soil, etc. I'd be curious what you think about the hl blade with side discharge! Happy mowing 😄
i really wish that 30" push mower would happen. 21" is for townhomes with 10 square feet to cut! :)
🙏🏼
Finally a good example how to use a blades! Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Can you use high lift and mulch blade to mulch and bag, getting the best of both worlds ?????
The bottom blade is changeable the upper is not. I’m sure someone will come up with a way to do that though 😊
If you’re looking to mulch into fine bits, I suggest using mulch blade with bottom discharge adapter. Gives the grass time to beat around underneath the mower while those blades chop the grass blades to small pieces. Using a bag or side discharge gives the grass an escape chute and slips out relatively still large in size.
@@Jeo-What thanks for testing this out!!
@George W does it work any better than the regular high lift setup for preventing stragglers? have you tried it with mulching or bagging leaves? Also I just realized it's possible to use 2 high lift blades too 😳 lol
Another combo could be the extended runtime on top and the mulching or high lift on bottom
Could you please do a comparision between the mulching and bagging blade, see if mulching blade cuts the grass much finer?
Hi Alvin, it’s not something I can do, but I will tell you the mulching blade will definitely cut up grass into smaller pieces. The high lift blade is a good blade. It’s mostly used for bagging or for rear side discharge.
@@TechMadeEzy thx!
@AlvinC-sz3li I wish I could help you more but I hope that answers helped you have a good night
Great instructive video ! It helped me decide on my blade order.
Thanks what blade are you getting and what are you gonna use it for?
Just got the 2135sp dual blade mower and have only cut with it a few times, so time will tell if i continue to like the mower as much as i do on initial impression.
The way i typically mowed with my gas mower was to mulch, and if the grass was high and mulch trails resulted, i would then put the bag on and pick up the scattered clumps. I found i much prefer this method over straight bagging for various reasons.
My first cut with the ego was when the grass was pretty high, and combined with me cutting it at a lower setting than my gas mower was at, mulching left a lot of grass lying on the ground. So, leaving the mulching blade on, i put the bag on the mower and went over most of the yard again to pick up the loose grass. Because of what I'd read about the ego blades, i expected to be bitterly disappointed in the result. Well, I'm very pleased to say results were stellar, and i struggled to find grass laying on the lawn afterward. So for me, the mulching blade does everything i need it to. Don't know how it would do with straight bagging, but if it picked up what was laying on the ground, I'd trust it to do fine. I doubt I'll ever use any of the other blades unless i see hard evidence that the high lift blade gives better mulching performance than the mulching blade.
Thanks for your thorough review.
Thanks for sharing and enjoy the 2135
I admit I haven't a clue whats what but my mower cuts OK. The blades do tend to dull after about 5 uses, a hand held angle grinder touches them up easily.
great video, I used the mulch blades for mulch and bag sometime, not big issue
Thanks Alex
Can I mow with Select cut forward and backward without turning around?..................
Yes as you pull back it mows
@@TechMadeEzy Thanks a lot, whatabout mowing backward? I have some very tight areas I cannot circle to mow but to only mow backward...........😃
Glad you can see a difference in the grass, you had that cutting height so high, it looks the same as before to me 🫤
This was exactly the video I needed. Thank you
Thank you
Do you have any videos on how to hand sharpen EGO select cut mower blades? I think my cut would improve with a little sharpening of blades.
Hi Wayne no sorry, also If you have an ACE hardware and don’t want to sharpen your blades they sharpen blades for around $10 and do a great job
Question for anyone: If you want to change back and forth between mulching and bagging, do you have to change the blades every time? I think I’ll want to mulch most of the time but then bag when I want to mulch (different sense of the word “mulch”) my vegetable garden. Could I still bag with the mulching blade on?
In all cases, I recommend the highlift blade for everything. With suction comes a more uniform cut and better airflow. Performance is what you get at the cost of some runtime. All other blades are "gimmicks"😉
This from my experience 😉
Thanks for sharing your experience
This very well could be. My Honda HRX (often considered the best walk behind) has the dual blade design and come factory with the high lift design. Still mulches so well it looks bagged.
Also, a high lift makes cleanup on sidewalks easier! I also feel it is good to slice and dice the clippings prior to the bag to pack the bag. Honda is best. Cant wait for my 10 year old Honda to get fixed. Needs a clutch for the blade stop. Even an older one feels high quality.
Fantastic video, this is just what I was looking for. Thanks!
Thank you so much
My EGO mower with bag on kicks out a huge amount of grass as I turn around. Misses a lot too . . . seems like there are big shoots that excape the mowing.
I'm looking for a great mulching solution for an Ego LM2022SP Steel deck mower.
Great video!
Yeah that number is correct check their website
I made a mistake with the numbers , yes LM2022sp is correct, they don’t make a gator aka mulch blade for that mower
Great, informative video!
Question, I live in a tropical climate and have dense low grass. I usually place a 25lb weight on my mower to get the blade low enough. Im thinking if replacing my blade as it is beat. I have the standard mowing blade.
Im thinking of high lift with a bag. Wondering if high lift would draw the grass up to be cut.
Thoughts?
I know I should really spring for a reel mower but I won’t go back to gas and a Sterling electric is about 2k last I looked…
Hi Michael what mower do you have? And yes a high lift blade will lift the grass up to cut it. Some of the newer mowers have a turbo option and this higher blade speed with a high lift blade in a bag is even better
@@TechMadeEzy i have the older 21”ego. I think I bought it in 2019 or 2020. No double blade…
It’s OK as long as you can find a high lift blade I know they didn’t make that for some of the older mowers. Also depending on your budget keep an eye out because they do have some good sales, which is weird. They used to have sales on the lm2135sp dual blade
@@TechMadeEzy oh will that dual blade work on older models?
No but I was saying depending on your budget maybe you can pick up that model since it goes on sale
Can you use the green blades on the previous model shown with black blades?
select cut models can handle select cut blades no matter which color. But single blade non select cut models just use their single blade options that are usually always black.
Thank you!!
My pleasure buddy keep in touch. Let me know if you have any questions.
Have you compared the select cut with the single blade?
I haven’t done a video, but I definitely notice a difference having two sharp blades versus one
@@TechMadeEzy I'd be interested in a video. Also, is there a way to mount two blades on the single blade models?
It’s not really made for that, but I’m pretty sure you can find a RUclips video showing you how. I don’t really like promoting anything that’ll possibly void your warranty.
Can you combine the high lift blade and mulching blade together so you end up with best of both worlds, or is it not possible?????
No not made to do that but I'm sure someone out there can hack it to make it work. Still not a good idea from my experience
A runtime comparison of the different blades would make a good video.
Good idea
How does the mulching blade do with pine straw. I’ve got a brand new Bermuda sod yard over sand. I really need to build the organic matter in the yard.
I wish I knew the answer to that question maybe one of the subscribers does
"As the church bells ring"
Nice touch😊
Really want to get the Ego mower but we live on a retention pond and what we call the back 40 we usually mulch because it's technically the township property but also ours. So really only the top section gets long and the rest is usually dries out because theres no sprinklers down there. The normal back yard and front yard we bag. So the switching between blades would get annoying fast.
Can you combine the high lift blade and the mulching blade on the Select Cut XP ?
Not made for that, I'm sure someone has a trick out there but they do 2 different things so I wouldn't recommend it.
It won't fit????
Very interesting, thanks
Thanks
Is there a universal blade? I mulch part of mine lawn and bag another part near my pool. I don't want to have to change blades every time I want to cut different parts of my lawn.
Terry just use the mulching blade then, it works fine
@@TechMadeEzy thanks! so just the one blade? Or do I need two blades like normal?
You have a single blade mower or dual blade mower?
If single blade then just the mulch blade (if it’s available)
If dual then you have your standard top blade and the bottom blade would be the mulch blade
@@TechMadeEzy Okay, thanks again. I have two blades. I don't really like to have two, but that's how it's designed.
I would leave a mulch blade on the bottom if you don't want to change blades, works for me at times thanks buddy
So you have to spend alot of time changing blades i cut twice a week small yard about 2500 sq ft total i try and use the 1/3 rule cool season grass j green b beauty so when you change its both blades?
Definitely sharpen both
See my later comment. You should be fine just cutting with the mulching blade.
I need to sharpen my blade. Should I sharpen both or just the bottom one? This is my 1st year with this mower.
Definitely both, I use a Dremel with a blade sharpening attachment
Should I bag only with the extended run time. I mostly just want to get the job done in one charge I have around 0.3 acres but it's a very hilly 0.3 acres so my first expirence mowing was good but I made some noobie mistakes and tried to bag with the gator blade and decided to go up and down the big hill rather than side to side. I got about 80% of the yard complete doing that but I'd like to see a full mowing on a charge is that possible with any configuration in your personal expirence.
Are usually prefer the bag with the highlift blade. You can use the extended runtime blade it doesn’t use as much power. I’d try and see. Have you tried using the high lift blade?
@Tech Made Easy I have not I read somewhere that it's heavier than the mulching blade thus worse battery life, in hand they feel the exact same. The only reason I bagged is to fill a big hole in the back yard. Is the extended run time blade best for side discharge since it won't create enough suction to bag efficiently? Or would that be a mulching plug set up? I don't have a preference the single mowing filled in the hole in the back completely so I don't need to bag but I could if that's the most efficient way to go about it
Extended runtime blade is really only good for cutting. It’s not gonna mulch well, and it definitely won’t be good for bagging. If you’re going to bag, I highly recommend getting a high lift blade.
@Tech Made Easy oh I see so my only real option with extended run time is side discharge? Or I could bottom discharge and just have a bunch on longer clippings on my yard
Side discharge in my opinion is messy and doesn’t work well. Try it, you will see.
I only use the high lift and mulching blades. Sorry I couldn’t help you more here
On my LM2135SP Select Cut EGO mower, blades stamped indicate opposite of this video. One that says mulch blade in this video is stamped "bagging", and vice versa,
Ego makes changes on the fly
Great video.. thx
Thank you Mike
I'd like to know how the mulch blade works with the bag and with normal, taller grass. I use my clippings for compost and like small clippings. I cut every 5-7 days in the spring, less frequently in the summer.
Thank you for this great video!
Thanks
Which blade is best for side discharge?
Rear side discharge I would use the high lift blade
Thank you so much. I really gained alot.
Thank you
If I'm using the side discharge chute, which blade is the better one to use on my EGO 21 inch mower?
Hi Kevin
I will 1st say I’m not a fan of rear side discharge but I believe the high lift blade would be best
@@TechMadeEzy I'm not a bagger guy and I don't cut the grass until it gets kinda long. So I figured the high grass would be easier to go through with the side discharger rather than mulching it.
The high lift blade should do it unless it’s too long then it will jam up at some point , can’t hurt to try it. It’s a good blade, make sure it’s sharp
Great videos.. Can the black high lift blade be used on the xp?
Hi thank you
To my knowledge it won’t line up, why wouldn’t you use the green one ?
Did yours come with it?
@@TechMadeEzy It did, but I left it in another state. bought the black one from Lowes. guess I need to take that one back and order the right one.. thx for the advice.
I left set links from Amazon in the description if that helps, those are our affiliate links. Anyway good luck
Great one thank you !
Thanks Joe
Thank you so much for making this video!!
Thank you
Which blade is recommended for side/rear discharging? Sorry if I missed it in the video!
I would say the mulching blade because you don’t want big pieces of grass shooting out the back stuck on your lawn you definitely want them to be cut up as much as possible
It doesn't seem anyone wants to do what I want to do..... Mulch leaves and bag them. I want shredded leaves to put in my raised beds, compost bins, etc. I've no clue what blade to use. Sounds like mulching blade with bag. Which doesn't seem so great.
I always vacuum up the leaves I used a high lift blade
The select cut blades can also be fitted to older 21" Ego mowers too. A couple of cheap parts available online for the conversion.
Be careful though that might void your warranty I'm not 100% sure
@@TechMadeEzy possibly but its all ego parts and fits identical to the select cut mowers
Just something to think about. That sweet 5yr warranty
Just a word of caution, I ran my old LM2100 mower with retrofitted dual blades using all the right parts, and was having major overheating problems. The blades fit, but the mower just wasn't meant to handle the additional weight/torque. I ended up buying a LM2135 this year and sold my old one.
Good advice, can also voide warranty
I purchased the green blades but apparently they aren't for my mower as my mower only has one blade. Just gunna throw one of them on there and hope for the best.
How long does the 2020 select cut 7.5amp battery last on high lift blade?
That all depends with grass height etc. You can always upgrade and get the 10ah or 12ah battery but if you don’t own a mower yet maybe getting the lm2156sp that comes with the 10ah battery might be better
@@TechMadeEzy👍 thx
Let me know what you end up doing. I’d be interested.
Can you put the select x blades on the non-select 21" mowers?
Can you compare Ego and Skil? Thank you.
Thanks for the idea
Skil 20 inches., and Ryobi 20 inches deck.
Are the High Lift blades interchangeable on each mower?
No non select cut models vs select cut have specific ones.
I cut 2x a week, can the high lift blade be used without a bag? I’m looking to get a better cut on a high traffic lawn.
Hi Jared You can try it but if you are cutting a lot of grass you will leave a mess on your lawn. It all depends on how much grass you are cutting
Glad I watched this before buying the blades at store. Lowe's only carried the extended run blade but had it sitting in the mulching blade spot, would've bought the wrong set. Going to have to source it somewhere else I guess.
Glad it helped thanks for watching.
Check Amazon I also have LinkedIn to description that helps our channel but don’t worry I think you can get them at Ace Hardware also
I had a similar problem. Ordered on Amazon what was described as a mulching blade set and the box received was marked AB2100D Mulching Blade. However inside the box was an extended run blade set stamped identically CH3707066002 to one that came with my LM2156sp mower but also stamped "Mulching Blade". If you search AB2100D on Amazon it's still up there with Mulching Blade in main title and Extended Run in detailed description. Question is: Why is EGO stamping these as mulching blades?
Hey Al, are you able to put the gator blade with the select xp mower on the other lane mower or would that mess with Funtime, my uncle has a gator blad on his gas lane mower and it does it really nicely, that’s why i said i liked the gator blade a little more, but is it possible to put the gator blade on the regular mower.
Alex always good to see you bro
Can you use the mulching blade with a bag? If so, how are the results
You can but the high lift blade bags better and will leave less grass on your lawn.
Another great video. On a side note do you prefer your Ego backpack blower or the new 765 CFM blower?
Thank you!
I like the 765cfm plus this ruclips.net/video/QHS20WFTBQ0/видео.html
I listened carefully. Thinking of buying this mower. But you didn't mention what height your mower was set to. I mow our grass every 2 weeks in Summer.
I usually mow around 2.5 inches maybe 3 at times
Where did you get the part's for the swap in blades? I'm thinking about doing the same, however when I called customer service a few day's ago I was told the part's you just used don't exist.
Did you use the mulch plug ?
I do use the mulch plug when I mulch.
Amazing Video ❤️
Thank you
Which blade to use side discharge chut? I’m waiting at the end i don’t see it
Id recommend the high lift blade , more suction , you can use the mulch blade also but the high lift blade will work better
Does dual blade work on LM2102E-SP?
It’s not made for it but I’ve seen some videos talk about ways to make it happen. I’d just be careful you can void your warranty, get a select cut mower maybe the lm2135sp
@@TechMadeEzy cool many thanks... no worries. i just got a 2nd hand one. 1st gen 21in... based on your video, logically the high lift blade helps alot on lifting the grass compared to the standard single blade
👍🏻
@@TechMadeEzy another question? Base on your experience, what the best height lvl position for dual mulching and high lift blade?
Dual mulching ?
Height is your preference but I personally don’t like cutting too short. I use the 5 setting if that helps

Thanks for the video!
Two questions:
1) do you know the website where parts can be ordered for the XP? My fan broke on mine.
How often do sharpen your blades and what method do you use.
Craig thank you
I really don’t know where you would get a fan. I know you can get some Ego parts on Amazon and I’m sure there are other legit websites out there. I’ve just never had to replace a part. I use a Dremel to sharpen my blades and I do it probably every two months it really goes by how many times you mow the lawn. It’s always good to keep your blade sharp.
I’m thinking of bagging my grass. Is there a certain blade I should use? I have the select cut
High lift blade definitely
The mulching blade is terrible. I fought it for a whole season on my lawn and even with very little incremental cutting week to week the mulching blade leaves lots of stragglers, and I ended up having to mow the lawn twice in two directions. Starting the season I was going to sell the mower because I couldn’t get anything close to my Honda gas mower but I tried the higher left blade for the first time and it made all the difference. All the difference. The mulching blade is not good even for well-kept lawns.
Mulch blade works for me especially on ego select cut dual blade mowers
I have an LM2135SP Select Cut dual blade. I want the mulch blade to work, but after researching the problem there are many reports of this issue. Thankfully, the high lift blade works.
Same here - single mulching blade seemed to just knock down tall grass, but switching to high lift blade and much better cutting on my 21" ego mower .
I had the same experience when I bought my EGO mower 7 years ago. I still use my high lift blade for both mulching and bagging. Looks like nothing much has changed over the years, other than the price almost doubled.
I just got my ego mower and I thought the mulching blade was great. Unlike you tho I don't mind scraglers on my lawn. But comparing the ego to the makita I had the difference is night and day. With the Makita I had clumps of grass. Although it was only a 36 volt. I had to charge my Makita in-between the front and back lawn. I cut the front and back with my ego mower and still had 74% battery left.
Hello I bought the ego lm2125sp. Which blade comes standard with it? Follow up question which blades can I buy for it?
It's only a single blade unit and I never reviewed it.
AB2101 high lift blade is available as an option
Can the EGOs take 3rd party blades?
I’ve never tried it. You might have to look something up maybe on Amazon or RUclips
Solved some mysteries for me.
Why don't they make a blade that stands the grass up for mulching?
Good question
The Mulching Blade leaves behind a horrible cut along with a bunch of stragglers with or without a bag as I tried both. I was getting ready to return my mower because I was so disappointed but decided to give the high lift blade a try which has a much better cut.
Definitely depends on how much grass you’re cutting
Are you using the plug adapter for bottom discharge? I mistakingky was using side discharge at first and the mulch blades were huge and in clumps. By plugging the mower for bottom discharge, it has created fine mulching bits that are hard to see with no clumps. Proving that the 21 select cut xp has one beast of a brushless motor.
Gino yes that’s the mulch plug, once it’s in the mower will mulch the grass cut it up as it goes around the deck with the 2 blades leaving the small clippings on the lawn
I have had the same experience. I just don't seem to get good cuts with the mulch blade mowing at 3".
@@AdamKirbyMusic with mulch plug or side discharge? See my message above, world of difference in mulching when using the mulch plug instead of side discharge. Also ensure you’re blades are fully sharpened
So what do I do if I don't want to bag but my Select Cut only came with the bagging blade? Do I *HAVE* to buy another set of blade that's for mulching only?
So you only have the upper and the lower is a high lift blade ? You can buy this then

Great video and very well explained. Thank you. It's too bad Ego doesn't make a high lift leaf shredding blade. When i saw all of your blades here I was hoping to use the mulching blade with the high lift but it's not designed for it. I guess that's on purpose though because nobody would sell leaf mulchers. LOL! Thanks again.
Thank you
I have lots of leaves in my yard and the Ego doesn't need a special blade to mulch the leaves. I have a 21" Ego push mower. I've been using the standard blade the last 8 years and have mainly been using the bagger. The leaves it picks up it mulches fine. One thing I noticed is the suction is poor compared to gas mowers but I finally decided to buy a new high lift blade and that should do a better job picking up leaves. If so, I might spend less time raking. Even though the suction hasn't been as good, I've been happy with how the mower cuts my grass.
it feels like mulch blade all the way ?
Regarding cuts, just browsing through the comments/opinions no one mentions their grass type and height of cut and frequency (1/3rd rule of cutting) which I think would make all the difference regarding best blade combination to use. And I'm guessing most probably are not looking to swap blades very often. I purchased my LM2130SP (Select Multi-Blade) last year and just today (8Jun2022) discovered it came with the extended runtime blade and the mulching blade and I do not have the high-lift blade. The manual does not describe it this way, it leads me to believe I have the "Premium Bagging Blade" (Mulching blade) and the Premium Mulching Blade (extended runtime blade). It did NOT come with the High-lift Blade. So up to this point, my reference to the use of blades has been completely misleading/wrong. LOL The whole time I've been using the "mulching blade" for both bagging and mulching. Maybe that's why bagging is so dang on messy for me. I have Bermuda lawn, cut using notch 2 (1&11/16 inch) and this time of year been cutting every 3rd day if I can. And I typically get 1 hour of cut time it, I clock in right about 50 minutes and that leaves me with 1-green LED left if I'm on schedule. In any case, I'll probably just stick the mulching blade.
I have a regular 21" non self propelled ego mower, I happened upon someone selling new select cut ab2101d dual set at a garage sale for practically nothing. I know I cant use the dual blades but do you know if the upper cutting blade can be used to replace an aged ab2000 blade?
I don’t know I’m sorry Chris
Wish Greenworks made a high lift blade! Maybe you can persuade them for me bro? 😉
I wish I had a relationship with them I've reached out multiple times
@@TechMadeEzy yeah, it seems like they don’t care when it comes to reviewing their products. They don’t have a lot of reviews here on RUclips.
Definitely feel that way. I am picking up another GreenWorks unit to review, nothing too exciting but I thought it should be reviewed. Keep your eyes out buddy
@@TechMadeEzy you know I will!
I bought the EGO 2142SP model because of the long run time and the dual batteries which i figured would make it easy to find blowers, chainsaws, weed eaters, etc. that would take that same smaller battery. What i did not realize is that i would not be able to use mulching blades because it is not a "Select Cut" model. Why EGO would ever make mowers that could not all take the same blades is a total flunk in my opinion. Can i purchase a kit to change the blade type and will it work? Anyone ever try it?
I don’t understand why they didn’t make a mulching blade for that
I really wish I could recommend the non-select mower. However, my yard has a slight slope. It is nearly impossible, regardless of effort, two make it look nice. I was told it is due to the weight disparagement of the front of the mower and that it lifts up when going downhill. Therefore creating uneven passes. As of my last cut I put a 5 pound weight on the front but that did not help. Next one will be 10lb.
im kinda bummed that you need a torque wrench though. a good one is not cheap
Here is one for $68 looks like it includes the battery
amzn.to/43l6kWt
@@TechMadeEzy thats not what you need. you need a torque wrench that measure the torque at what your putting the bolt on.. but with that being said.. a decent one probably costs the same amount
@neastguy this is what I use for years, never needed a Torque wrench, never had any issues with balance, vibration or sounds.
@@TechMadeEzy maybe its all a crock..lol... I hear yah... Pretty sure it says to have the bolts on at a certain torque. Im picking up my new EGO mower today.. thanks for all your vids
Did EGO mislabel my blades? The one you referred to as "extended run time" blade on mine has "mulching lower blade" imprinted right on it. This was the blade it came installed when bought.
The one you are referring to as a mulching blade on mine says "bagging lower blade"
What the heck???
EGO makes changes on the fly after launching mowers so its possible.
Thank you great video I just pulled the switch and bought myself a new ego mower to my surprise there was 2 blades in the box and then when I flipped it over there was to blades installed. I was like what the but I seen now it has an upper and mulched installed from the factory which is what I want to do but man I am used to gas mowers with 1 blade that’s full beat up lol so I am actually excited to use this mower
Enjoy let me know how it goes
Hey I’m not sure what the blade speed is on these mowers but I think it be better to use just one blade instead two especially with the mulching blade. Nice video I subscribed
Hi Joseph thank you
The select cut is made to run with 2 blades. It won't run with one blade.
Yes you are correct dual blade setup
Some or most of these heavy duty mulching blades by other manufacturers are heavy. It wouldn’t be a good IDEA to install because it be a strain on engine/motor
I have a LM2101 mower. Is it possible to put the mulching blade on it or a dual blade?
Hey they don’t make a mulching blade for that mower, the standard blade it comes with will mulch for the most part but not like the select cut mulch blade series as an example. Keep that blade sharp and it will do a good job. You can also get a high lift blade good for cutting and bagging see link below
amzn.to/43E94yq
The bolts needed for the high lift set are never addressed by anyone, including EGO, you buy the set but “ no bolt or nut included”, it’s total bs , finally just returned the set after a day hunting for bolts .. EGO manual also does not say a word about the “ needed bolts . Wish I had just bought a regular mower
Parts Warehouse may have the two 9\16 bolts and the one 11\16 bolt.
I wish you made this one a long time ago
I hear you
Can you also teach calculus? Jk thank you so much for this video.
Hey Not sure if anyone ever really looked into these battery powered lawnmower blades. There thin Lightweight and flex.
Nothing like a gas mower blade.
The only battery mower comes close is the Toro.
Most aftermarket I’m going to say aggressive blades are going to be heavier. If you replace old original blades with aftermarket blades in an aggressive style cut they will place a strain on the electric motors. I would stick to an original blade from manufacture.
