Today on our 2007 Toyota Yaris we'll be installing the Draw-Tite sport frame trailer hitch receiver in a class 1 with an inch and a quarter opening on the receiver, part number 24819. Now here's what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements in helping you choose some accessories for your hitch, such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is approximately three and a half inches; from the top of the opening in the receiver to the ground is approximately 12 inches. Now let's go ahead and install our hitch. To begin with here we'll need to remove two plastic rivets that hold this rear fascia in place. Do not throw these rivets away as we will be reinstalling them once our hitch is in place.
To get the plastic rivets out just simply use a large flathead screw driver or a trim panel removal tool to work the rivets out by simply pulling out the center of the rivet and then working the rest of the rivet out of the hole. Now let's go ahead and point out the locations we'll be mounting our hitch to our vehicle. There'll be two locations on either side. We'll be removing the lower bolt as well as the inboard bolt on both the driver and the passenger side. Once we have each of the bolts out on both sides we're ready to put our hitch up into position. Now the new hardware that we'll be using is an M8 bolt with a conical tooth washer.
We want to make sure that the teeth on the washer do face towards the hitch when installed. All four of the locations we'll be using exactly the same hardware. Now let's go ahead and raise the hitch up into position. As you raise the hitch up into place you'll have to pull down on the tab of the fascia that you removed the rivet from earlier.
You need to make sure that the hitch goes up above this tab on the rear fascia. We'll begin by putting the lower bolt in on both sides making sure again that the teeth on the conical tooth washer are facing towards the hitch. Once we have each of the lower bolts in to hold the hitch in place we'll go ahead then and put the top bolt in on each side. Now that we have all the hardware loosely installed on the hitch now lets go ahead and tighten it down and then we'll torque it down to the manufacture specification. Now that we have all the hardware torqued to the manufacture specification we'll go ahead and put the two plastic rivets in that we removed earlier. Once the plastic rivets are back in place that'll complete our installation of the Draw-Tite sport frame trailer hitch part number 24819 on our 2007 Toyota Yaris.
