    The Prius's transmission is a power split device that can produce almost any gear reduction you can think of without slipping, so it has a major advantage from that standpoint on towing. It utterly lacks the horsepower to go anywhere in any kind of hurry when you put that much load on it, and the mechanical components transmitting all that torque will not be happy, and the engine certainly won't be happy producing such a high percentage of it's peak power output without the forward momentum rushing airflow into the radiator to help cool itself down, not to mention the ungodly strain on the batteries and charging system, but this isn't as a difficult or as destructive as it would seem at first.

    • @supersnot4
      @supersnot4 2 года назад +2

      They could probably do this indefinitely if the suspension could handle it. The engine only produces so much torque, so mechanically there's nothing to break. Once I figured out how these transmissions work, I became a really big fan of them.

Other than that there isn't anything in the Prius that would break under a load like that - mechanically they are quite simple and can take a heck of a lot of abuse.

    I'm 73, live in the mountains, hold a crane operator and pilot certs, and my frigging 2013 Prius is the best damn. car I've ever owned! These days, I try and avoid any eye contact with pickemup drivers while fueling up, especially the ones with not a damn thing in the bed, the guys who drive them to look macho, and/or because they're too damn broke paying off a 7 year loan to also drive something that will save them real money every day. I have a 1 ton flatbed, it stays parked until I got a load of shit to move, otherwise the Prius is my daily driver, I can be macho driving my crane around town or flying my airplane.

      That's the cool thing about going from a f250 to a f450. Same motor, but the f450 has less power and it'll last just as long while doing more work. Part of why I was personally excited when they came out with the 7.3 gas motor. It's so underpowered compared to what it could be.
