  • We were excited to try the new Surfers Paradise IceBar and it seemed like it would be the perfect family outing. It is within walking distance of our apartment, and they serve non-alcoholic beverages as well as cocktails.
Unfortunately, things did not work out like we hoped, and we were not allowed to take any footage (video or photographs) inside the IceBar itself.
I hope other people have a better experience with them than we did.

I like your furhat. 😂 ❤️You could certainly use it here in the winter. It's +23°C now and going to be up to 29°C in the next few days, which is quite hot for us, but nothing compared to the heat in southern Europe.😅

A perfect hat for the occasion 🥶😎.To expensive and it would have been better for them to give you a refund considering the short time you spent in there..It’s the second one of them to open up in Surfers Paradise, the first one didn’t last long. I know why now 😎

Dear Suvi, hope you had a nice day yesterday day and also today as you mentioned it’s a holiday. Sorry that the visit to Icebar didn’t turn out as expected. What were you paying for with $145, was that the entrance fee and to visit everything? I was quite shocked at the price. I guess as the place wasn’t crowded they didn’t want to refund you! Poor Spencer did seemed spooked by those blue “coats”, which must have looked strange to him. He is usually so excited to go out, but he was just crying and holding onto you, poor darling he definitely was not having a good time as he was cold as you said.. Have been watching some other videos of him at 9 months and getting the books from”the Library” so cute. Enjoy the holiday on Monday.

How can it POSSIBLY not be illegal to charge a $145 fee UP FRONT and then REFUSE any kind of refund for a cancellation?! If that was me, I'd be calling my attorney already to have them charged with consumer fraud!

Thank you so sincerely for your support Dennis 🙏❤ I have spoken to other people who say that other IceBars (like one in New Zealand) freely let you take your own photographs and videos that you can post on your social media. So, to not allow people to take their own photos and then charge people $12 per photo (!!!) taken from their own cameras spaced around the room already seemed a little odd. Personally, if I ran a business, I would encourage people to take photos and or videos and post on social media because it might interest other people to come and try the bar for themselves?! And yes, you are right, it was very effectively a cancellation because we did not have any of the drinks that came with the fee, and we were only inside for about three minutes. There was no-one else there on the premises either, so it was not like we took up anyone else's time slot or anything either. It was unfortunately one of the more negative experiences we have had for quite a while. The gentleman out the front who helped us with our coats was a very nice young man though. He treated us well and I think he felt sorry that the bar did not work out to be a good experience for us.
Thank you again sincerely, I truly appreciate your kind and intelligent comments 👍❤🙏

@@SuvisJournalism Exactly -- there were NO goods sold or services rendered, so you did NOT owe them ANY money and were ENTITLED BY LAW to a refund! Reminds me of one of my own experiences I had recently, but with a different outcome -- I bought a pair of jeans that were labeled 32/34 but they turned out at least 2 sizes smaller than the marked size, but when I tried to get a refund because they were obviously defective, the store tried to refuse because I had removed the tags before trying them on! But like I said, this one had a different, and better, outcome -- I refused to take "no" for an answer, but instead I planted myself right in front of the cashier, looked her straight in the eyes and said, using these exact words, "You CANNOT legally have such a policy -- if you sell a defective item, then BY LAW you MUST accept it back for a refund no matter what"! Took me some back and forth which took maybe 10 minutes in all, but eventually they caved and gave me my money back!
Also, on a slightly different but related topic, I think I asked you once before: do you have any special advice for being outside with a baby in below-freezing temperatures (such as in New England or upstate New York in the winter), and in particular for mothers breastfeeding their babies under such conditions?

What’s the normal temperature where you live this time of year? It’s normally in the mid 80s where I live in the USA. Here lately it’s been in the 90s.
