I have something like this, a J4125 8gb ram 256gb ssd, and I was surprised by how much power this thing has. I needed a low power alternative for my translation work, as well as my Zoom meetings. I do have a large workstation for any heavy work and any actual gaming I may do, but these days I keep office hours from 8-4. My previous low power machine was an E-450, which I made the mistake of "upgrading" to Windows 10 and now I have to wait 5-10 minutes after turning it on for the machine to be usable, and it has a SSD and 8 gb RAM. With Windows 7 no longer supported and me needing MS Office (for full compatibility with documents sent for translation) and SDL Trados (makes my life easier when translating, and requires MS Office and Windows for proper work), plus the fact I have gotten used to having a 4K sized desktop (never going back) makes a small machine with these specs great. I can work and not consume a lot of electricity, and actually not notice I am using a low power machine., for my day to day tasks. That is at least several Office Docs (varying sizes, but not your garden variety ones, we are taking 100+ technical stuff, plus presentations heavy on multimedia, Excel sheets, etc), several PDFs, approximately 15 browser windows open (terminology bases, reference sheets, etc), SDL Trados, the occasional PhotoShop (for editing graphical elements to be translated) and unless it is heavy stuff, I do not notice a difference. Yes, I suppose my larger desktop is much snappier, then again it should be. But having this means I can leave it on during my regular office hours and not worry about a large bill coming in at the end of the month, and not having to suffer low resolutions and limited functionality. Little rule of thumb for gamers who need a small machine for non gaming tasks: if it can do PS2 and Gamecube emulation, it is good enough for daily driver activities at the level you are used to doing. We do work, after all.
For myself, this would be perfect as a combined media centre and retro emulation station for use in a living room. I'd need to upgrade from the 128gb M2 SSD though to store a greater volume of internal media, or alternatively just plug in an external drive. For someone else though, this would be a perfect replacement for their aging PC. They've been using an all-in-one touch screen PC for nearly 10 years now and it's time to replace it. The fact that it can attach to the back of a monitor makes it perfect.
Some people have real use cases for small computers. My family runs Airbnbs on a few condos, this is a computer I can carry around to those condos, and use the TVs there as monitors. If Chuwi has a system in place to control Windows or Linux on this PC with a phone, like the Intel Compute Stick has, that would be perfect
