This is a cute little device to be sure, but I was definitely expecting it to be like, half the price, especially given the last gen Ryzen APU. The size is all it has going for it, a desktop ryzen apu system will cost the same as this and outperform it easily.

Im obsessed with small tech but for a business that has limited desk space and want very small and capable pcs this is a perfect and very viable option. I worked in call centers and a device smaller than what we had with 2 times the power is something we wouldve loved to have. We waited so long for programs and tools to open up becuase the ram had to allocate more space and the cpu could not handle multitasking very well.
Great review, but one tip. Next time please include what resolution you are playing with and with what settings on PC games. For instance is Skyrim or Borderlands running on 1080p with the highest settings or 720p with medium etc etc. You get my point :D Other than that great review, you just got yourself a subscriber :)

@@bobafruti It's a niche market. MiniPCs have other advantages to laptop. Real life example that happened to me: I used my laptop so much in a period of 3 years that the battery inflated. Now I have to buy a replacement. A MiniPC will not experience that problem.
Ryzen apu's are often underestimated, you can increase the tdp, change the amount of vram it uses, upgrade the gpu clock speed and activate all cores, (ryzen 5 3500u= 8 cores total)
Can't you run at least Yuzu in Vulkan? Edit: It's probably good to of me to also look at the video, Yuzu is running on Vulkan, but you are still probably right about it running better on Linux
"Makes this game a breeze to play", a few seconds later: 7:49 (drop to 13 fps on a single enemy hit, audio freezes) I appreciate the analysis, and it is an interesting machine, I just get upset when reviewers tell me a game runs great on a machine, even when you suffer this kind of freezing throught the experience.
it’s because the emulator hasn’t built the cache properly which means that the game would freeze sometimes on stuff on first play through due to building the cache needed for it
Ryzen loves ram. IIRC it's just CPU speed but impact it quite a bit. Look up Gamer's Nexus on RUclips, they go pretty deep into not single vs dual, but ram speed as well. Basically though 3200mhz (low latency) dual channel is what you want.
I liked this ones looks, & price-point more than the 4k mini pc you showed at the beginning of this video! The accessibility of it through the top of the case is a big plus. If I wasn't planning on building one in the next 1-2 years, I'd get this. Even then, I may sit down & take a more serious look at the specs on this one, both for retro-gaming, & as a main pc. Btw, even when you review the more expensive gaming pc's, it's fun to see what people come up with. Then there's the no-fun, practical side of me that chimes in with: you could build that for less! I still can dream, in this case, & with the Retroid 2, they come within the realms of practical me consideration. Keep the reviews coming!
I've never even heard of one of these... I use to hate it but I love how RUclips brings the most random videos into my experience that I other wise wouldn't give two 💩's about 🤣🤣 because everyday I learn something new. I'm not surprised with this device considering our phones alone are mini computers. Give it a few more years and well ALL be able to watch Halogram TV and our current smart tvs will be obsolete and we will look at them the way we look at a windows 95 computer with dial up in 2021..😂😂 I can't imagine not having the technology like we do today... it would force me to have to go out socialize more 🙄 vs currently being an introvert and always acting like I'm too busy to hangout with anyone when in reality I just LOVE being alone, when I can ACTUALLY be alone... I play N64/GC with moga pro (similar to his controller) and I don't see anything missing I can play every game perfectly fine with it. It worth to mention that it works with my smartphone and laptop via bluetooth or cable.

Man, I paid $200 for my Alienware alpha (the R1) and it outperforms this thing for the most part while being only a little larger.

Working Nintendo 3DS Emulator had been there for a few years now.

Uhhh, handhelds use like 5 watts. This uses around 20-25w. If this were a handheld you would have about 20min of battery life.

@Solid Snake If you google PCSX2 and go to their website, you'll see it has a Mac port. Lots of emulators are ported to multiple platforms.

It's a lower power laptop chip, I believe: the Ryzen 5 3550H
3400g is about 30% better than 3550h based on userbenchmark.

No. Take a look at hades canyon or something instead. Should exist benchmarks as well.
I can use that to build a Video Arcade Machine that plays all the old games with MAME or Retroarch.
