I got a kick out of this mid-term review. I have about 1,600 miles on my M-Sport version and agree with almost everything you said. I also owned two earlier versions and have owned and currently own some of the Italian competitor models. I have the R&G Second Skin tank side protectors (just pre-cut PPF) which provide just enough grip and are nearly invisible. They also sell a kit to protect the front and all leading edges. The phone app can also be used to record your rides, which includes the lean angle information you see on the Sports view on the TFT. I've toured thousands of miles on a Panigale (without heated grips or cruise control) and I think the S1000rr is every bit the sports tourer, given its generous amount of room to move around as well as the cruise control and heated grips. People tend to overlook the fact that, at highway speed, the riding position on sports bikes is quite comfortable because you are leaned into the wind which in turn helps support you to some extent. With a naked, you are holding yourself up against the wind blast, which is also more noisy. Add a bespoke tank bag (angled downward towards the rider), and you have a fairly comfortable perch. That, plus soft bags or a Kreiga backpack, and you are in business. Although, as you noted, you cannot modify the four pre-set modes, you can use one or more of the Race Pro modes to set up an alternative configuration for the road however you like. Finally, BMW also sells the carbon fiber panels you mentioned, in glossy finish (as used on the parts included in the carbon package on the M-Sport version), and I believe you can turn off the dash warning light you mentioned when in Race Pro.
If I like it which Im sure I will it will be a headache to decide between one of these or the Gsxr1000r which are heavily discounted now at £14400 for a pre reg 2021
Took one for a days test ride out of Vines Guildford, managed to get to Machynllth and back via the Brecons. Dead comfy, massively capable, fast has never been so easy. My only criticism is screen a tad low for me. Amazing machine.
You can get an ECU modification that turns the fan on earlier for cooler running temps. Also fixed a few other things that make everything that little bit nicer. Maybe not worth getting just for the fan mod but good to know if you're thinking about getting it anyway
I think the Helibar risers would be a nice clip-on addition, couples with some adjustable rear-sets, to this to enhance the comfort without compromising your track days.

I've had mine for two months now, love it and hate it at the same time! After three weeks I needed a new front wheel (long story) and the build quality isn't great but its absolutely amazing to ride! I have stomp grips, clear ones, they seem to be keeping their colour quite well.

Tank grips: Stompgrip Supervolcano Clear. Much nicer than your smoke. Windscreen. WRS (over the MRA). It has more of a bubble and better airflow. Clear for the better ability to put a 360 camera on the triple-clamp. Exhaust: I kept stock because I hate loud. To reduce weight and increase power, get a full system but use the stock can. It won't be as ridiculously loud as the shorty can. Tail: Futurismoto if you want to clean it up. I have 16,000 miles on mine. Best purchase ever.

I'm 5'11" and I noticed a big reduction of dead bugs on the jacket but I don't suffer too much from wind in the helmet. Hot bike. My 2016 S1000RR gets hot enough to where in the California summer sun, I think my right heal and ankle is being slow cooked after a couple of hours. In the US you need a flash to unlock the power, and they also open the exhaust flappers. I’d love to find an exhaust that is loud on the road, but could easily insert some DB killers to bring it down to 103db which is a common sound limit on US tracks. Still looking.
Bloody hell Chops looks like the Golf R car might have to go and BMW 1000rr to replace. We spoke at Bury Hill about you doing a mid trial review on the bike and I am sold. At 49 but still wanting a sports bike in the garage as well as the SDR I think this bike ticks a lot of box’s if not all of them. Well done a really good review👍🏻 I can’t believe it comes with hill climb hold, not a massive thing but with all the other extra creature comforts compared with the other bikes in the class this adds up to a good all round sports bike for us older guys still seeking the thrill of a sports bike but with a bit more comfort and functionality.
Hill hold is so underrated. I have mine on manual mode so I activate it with a hard squeeze of the lever rather than it deciding when to activate it. But it makes it so chill to stop at lights and whatnot
Hi Mark, yes remember our chat how you doing buddy. You are right, hill hold is just another little thing which adds up to a brilliant all-round package. No need to be uncomfortable on a sportsbike now, this bike proves it :-)
@@LambChopRides well let’s be honest it’s our age group that’s still buying the bloody things lol. Let me know when your next in the area. Good choice Chops I think you will get a lot of fun out of that bike! Like we have both said it ticks so many box’s. Looking forward to your Trip with Teapot👍🏻
I had one with a full system, get an ARROW one with the titanium cat, so that way you get enough back pressure, kind of complies with Euro 3 and leave the baffle in the can. Still 'just' gets through the track day Nazis! Only sold due to divorce... still gutted. Great Video!
Had mine nearly 3 months and going to do review shortly. Everything you said I agree with. I have the Evotech bar ends and they make a small difference. I also have put some stick on lead tape under the mirror stalks to reduce mirror vibes. I have a Pro Race can (feel free to watch my vid on it, not up to your standards) and like you, fact it is quiet at start up keeps me in good books with neighbours. Mine is just RR sport model rather than M Sport. Luggage wise I’ve gone for Ventura so be interesting to see how you get on with the SW Motech side bags
I’m loving mine as well, I’m about to do a little hack on the headlights, basically you can have automatic lights, the running lights are on all the time but as it gets dark the headlights come on automatically, as it should be from the factory you even turn this feature on or off through the dash settings
I have a 2018 s1kRR and its almost the same in many many ways like heating, difference between m sport/comfort and std seat, buzziness around 80-100kph, those pops and crackles during opening closing gas, sport yet comfy ergos, cruise control s same, low end grunt may be better in newer, those warning signs(lil too much), we can munch miles with no problem, electronic suspension s great and lastly brakes are bitey
I went for black widow headers which are great. I did use a bit of exhaust past on every join and they give you a tube of the stuff. I kept standard can as the end can because A/ it’s v light B/ it’s straight through perforated tube like all the after markets are C/ it looks like a standard bike so if cops moan about the noise “ITS STANDARD CAN” 😋👍 D/ saves you cash better spent on regular new tyres ✨🏍️💨
Was really considering this but I decided on a 2021 Aprilia RSV4 1100 factory glad I went with the aprilia. Only small gripe I have with it is the cruise control cannot be set unless you're in at least 3rd gear and going a certain speed. The bmw allows you to pop it on whenever
Thanks for the review LC. Is the V4 Panigale as hot as people say? I have to admit that my heart wants the V4S but the more practical side of me is screaming S1000RR. I think you have me sold on the Beemer 😉👍
Nice interesting review as ever & a great bike which may be the most versatile (best?) 1000cc supersport yet. The other manufacturers have got a big act to follow.
Very good review. Lovely bike. So complex compare to my last sports bike which was a 2001 R1. Now I am a round the world biker and just have various adventure bikes, but if I was to have one in the garage again this bike looks good.
Love the video choppsy! Im, not someone who owns a bike (or even a driving licence at that) but love seeing reviews for top-end bikes! Give me a good idea for what I might get years down the line as a third or fourth bike.
Nice review Mate - Re tank grip guards. I track my V4S almost exclusively. Hard to find good looking ones, but use stomp grip. I buy them, and cut them to size.
Busa probably slightly more comfortable as has a bigger seat, but bit of a stretch to the bars on that one.. I would say really there is not much in it
Great review as always Mr Chops. Agree with all you said, got the RRsport in silver. Didn’t want to pay for sports seat and knew I’d replace it and a light weight battery wasn’t going to be something I’d be able to notice. Had mine for 2 months and done 2k on it. Comfy , smooth, fast as you like but laden with toys also. Sat nav and speed display is a joy, heated grips perfect and I went for the high screen, it does make a slight difference to the wind. Love the channel. 👍
Tank grips - go for TechSpec snake skin Gripster. These are the best grips on the market. Everything else is like a soap bar in comparison. Helps you reduce muscle input as well as you only use a bit of force.
the dtc +/- button on the left handlebar adjusts the traction control i believe. i had mine in race pro 1 with -4 dtc and the engine braking on level 2 because in the lowest level 1 it gives out a very noticeable extra hit of throttle which lurches the bike forwards on the downshift from 2nd to 1st even though throttle is fully closed and I'm pulling on the front brakes, not exactly what i want when approaching stationary queuing traffic at 60mph. i find the bike too soft on power delivery and I'm thinking that bmw made it to appeal to the masses rather than the hardcore riders who want something that feels scary and edgy. its a great bike but its not rip your arms off exciting.
I think keyless would be great on a bike. Only down side is track day leathers. The bike still needs a place to hold the key when you don't have pockets. Still to this day I put on my gloves before taking the key out of my pocket, it's silly but annoying.
Hope in the years to come it doesn't do what their abs on the older BMW bikes,, suppose that's like comparing the atari to a ps5 🤔🤔🤔🤔 bloody lovely bike,, can see you owning it 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️From Northern Ireland great video,, they do a longer end can for full system for track riders
Hey Chops! I'm in the exact situation between a 21 Tuono factory and this bike... I've been going back and forth 10 times an hour for the last 10 days! But I think your video made my mind up for me... in case you change your mind I have OZ gass wheels (used) w/Brembo supersport rotars & pads(new)/520 3D chain & sprockets(new) for Tuono if your interested... BTW your videos always make me feel so much happier after I watch them thanks so much for being you brother!
I really like your type of reviews! I have two questions: 1. Why only one protection - on the brake side? 2. Is it fine to travel with this bike in terms of luggage available space? Thanks a lot! And keep on!
I've never understood the, "its too perfect, with no soul" opinion. Its like a fighter pilot saying, "you know what? I'm living on the edge ALREADY, but what would be better, is if this jet plane was a little crappier and clunkier". Why on earth would anyone NOT want something like a super sport, to be as clinical, precise and predictable as it can be?!? I totally understand a select few daredevils feeling this way, but I hear this all the time. I think many are just parroting what they hear others say for attention, are BMW haters, and/or justifying the fact they can't afford the S1K.
👍🏍️ I found if you put it in Rain mode that most/all the vibes disappear. This is because of too much compression damping ima that gets backed off in rain mode. so I now use race pro 1 with min compression damping then you have pro 2 and 3 if you want to have setting with more compression damping back. Hope this is helpful to someone 👍🏍️ Ps Mid way for rebound damping +/- 1 I found optimum and I’m 14-15 st fully kitted. Static sag set to factory recommended settings after a ride not before as everything like suspension fluid needs to be fully warmed up b4 adjusting 👍👍

I had one with a full system, get an ARROW one with the titanium cat, so that way you get enough back pressure, kind of complies with Euro 3 and leave the baffle in the can. Still 'just' gets through the track day Nazis! Only sold due to divorce... still gutted. Great Video!
22:20 *Tech Spec Tank grips* look much cleaner.
I really like the Tech Spec X-Line I have on my bike. Smooth but grippy and actually quite comfy.
There are many Beemers with a soul... they have a boxer twin and shaft drive. Lots of character!
I always used to add the cheapo metal tek-bike belly pans to my previous gen s1000rr’s used to make a nice difference to the look.
I just got the Bp app. Don’t even have to get off to pay. Very handy and dead easy to use.
Great content chopys , I love my s1000rr sport . One thing I've done to mine is get the suspension set up to my weight. It's a must if you haven't.
yes good tip, on track I have bottomed out the forks a couple of times under real hard braking. But dont want to too hard for the road
It’s nice to know you have mates🤗
Haha not many 🤣
I went for black widow headers which are great. I did use a bit of exhaust past on every join and they give you a tube of the stuff.
I kept standard can as the end can because
A/ it’s v light
B/ it’s straight through perforated tube like all the after markets are
C/ it looks like a standard bike so if cops moan about the noise “ITS STANDARD CAN” 😋👍
D/ saves you cash better spent on regular new tyres
✨🏍️💨
Great bike.when the best m division involved ,the result is always perfect..
Great review and update Chopsy, I wish my arthritis would let me ride one. My guess is that you will buy this 😉
I love the sound of that bike 🏍
Was really considering this but I decided on a 2021 Aprilia RSV4 1100 factory glad I went with the aprilia. Only small gripe I have with it is the cruise control cannot be set unless you're in at least 3rd gear and going a certain speed. The bmw allows you to pop it on whenever
Really good review! I’ve been weighing up the S1000RR or the V4 Panigale; this has mostly made my mind up…subject to some test rides!
I have a Panigale v4 here at the moment and honestly the BMW is much more comfortable and less tiring to ride.
Great review again Chopsie. This might be my last sports bike next year that or the Rsv4. I’m leaning towards the looks on the Beemer though.
Give me a good idea for what I might get years down the line as a third or fourth bike.
my dream bike! Id love to own one! I have GSXS atm but one day i will have the bmw
You had me at the hill stop
And cruise control!
Nice review Mate - Re tank grip guards. I track my V4S almost exclusively. Hard to find good looking ones, but use stomp grip. I buy them, and cut them to size.
oh btw - its the super volcano ones you want... The California Superbike school here in the US were actually the ones to told me about them
Get the bike chops. You clearly love it. Don't over think it.
Straight shoot out on COMFORT only - the Beemer or Busa over distance??? (comprehensive update Chopsey nice one 👍)
Busa probably slightly more comfortable as has a bigger seat, but bit of a stretch to the bars on that one.. I would say really there is not much in it
These are slightly more money than I’m comfortable spending on a new bike. But I’m still very tempted!!!!
Good long time review Lamb Chop
When I get out of lockdown I will be adding one to the fleet I'm thinking
Go with Stomp Grip. They are clear and stay clear for a long time.
Good tip on the snake skin thanks, looks like just what Im looking for thanks
Love it! I hope I get one soon.
Get TechSpec tank grips, I have them on my Fireblade and XSR900 and they look and feel great. I've tried EZ Grips and Stompgrip before they are meh.
the dtc +/- button on the left handlebar adjusts the traction control i believe.
i had mine in race pro 1 with -4 dtc and the engine braking on level 2 because in the lowest level 1 it gives out a very noticeable extra hit of throttle which lurches the bike forwards on the downshift from 2nd to 1st even though throttle is fully closed and I'm pulling on the front brakes, not exactly what i want when approaching stationary queuing traffic at 60mph.
i find the bike too soft on power delivery and I'm thinking that bmw made it to appeal to the masses rather than the hardcore riders who want something that feels scary and edgy.
its a great bike but its not rip your arms off exciting.
I think keyless would be great on a bike. Only down side is track day leathers. The bike still needs a place to hold the key when you don't have pockets.
Still to this day I put on my gloves before taking the key out of my pocket, it's silly but annoying.
Every vid, I keep thinking: I know that road, and that one....I was on some of them today, cycling!
The last time I checked, the cruise control doesn't work above 220km/hr. Atleast that was the case on my 2020 non M variant. Great review nontheless.
Great review. How does it compare to the GSXR1000R? It would be good to get your view as you've spent time on both.
I’d love to hear the answer for this
Looks like a brilliant bike, not jealous much
God damn, this guy is making me want one so bad.
Isle if Man test sound pass is around 100dB so exhaust is good.
Chopsy, if you had a choice between the s1000rr and the hayabusa that you rode, which one would you chose as your daily rider?
Get an Evotech tail tidy. Their kit is better made and designed than R&G and you don't need to cut wires as their connectors fit the OEM ones.
It will run less warm after a full pipe and tune to improve fuelling
I'm giving serious consideration to switching from my zx14r to one of these bikes...
I really like your type of reviews!
I have two questions:
1. Why only one protection - on the brake side?
2. Is it fine to travel with this bike in terms of luggage available space?
Thanks a lot! And keep on!
Review a zx-10r 2021 if possible. I have seen your previews reviews with the first gen and the fifth gen would love to see you on the 2021 as well!
Yes hoping to test one soon 👍
So the Kwak's up for sale then ...? Great vid stay safe, Pete in Italy.
I hope not!
That is one good looking bike 👍
I've never understood the, "its too perfect, with no soul" opinion. Its like a fighter pilot saying, "you know what? I'm living on the edge ALREADY, but what would be better, is if this jet plane was a little crappier and clunkier". Why on earth would anyone NOT want something like a super sport, to be as clinical, precise and predictable as it can be?!? I totally understand a select few daredevils feeling this way, but I hear this all the time. I think many are just parroting what they hear others say for attention, are BMW haters, and/or justifying the fact they can't afford the S1K.
👍🏍️
I found if you put it in Rain mode that most/all the vibes disappear. This is because of too much compression damping ima that gets backed off in rain mode.
so I now use race pro 1 with min compression damping then you have pro 2 and 3 if you want to have setting with more compression damping back.
Hope this is helpful to someone 👍🏍️
Ps
Mid way for rebound damping +/- 1 I found optimum and I’m 14-15 st fully kitted.
Static sag set to factory recommended settings after a ride not before as everything like suspension fluid needs to be fully warmed up b4 adjusting 👍👍
would like to see a comparison between this and the base model
