  • chickpea-sweet potato salad recipe for weight loss, dinner/lunch salad recipe to lose weight fast, skinny recipes for weight loss. cooking in cast iron pan helps in iron absorption more. As my skillet is seasoned well, it just needed a little oil to saute the ingredients and roast the chickpeas without sticking to the pan plus I could serve a healthy salad for dinner. I used boiled chickpeas which I had pressure cooked but if you are using canned chickpeas then make sure you wash them before cooking. I have added an Indian touch to this salad by using Indian spices. Sweet potatoes are good carbs that will help you feel fuller but you can use cooked quinoa, bajra, barley, jowar etc instead. You can use any variety of capsicum.
    NOTE: Iron deficiency is the most the most common nutritional deficiency. your thyroid needs adequate iron levels to produce active hormones T4 and T3. Symptoms of low iron can include fatigue, low energy, hair loss, feeling cold, weak or brittle nails, palpitations or shortness of breath, brain fog and more. Many of these symptoms are also symptoms of low thyroid function or hypothyroidism.
    So, other than eating more iron-rich foods, another good way to increase iron intake is to cook foods in a cast iron pan or kadai.

    Ingredients:
    cooked/boiled chickpeas: 2 cups
    boiled sweet potatoes: 1/2 cup, chopped
    1 tsp coconut oil
    1/4 tsp jeera/cumin seeds
    4 cloves garlic, chopped
    1/4 inch ginger, chopped
    1/2 onion, chopped
    1 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
    1/2 tsp turmeric powder
    1/4 tsp roasted cumin powder
    1/4 tsp garam masala (link below)
    2 chopped tomatoes
    1-2 tbsp water
    1/2 tsp pink Himalayan salt
    1/4 tsp black pepper powder
    1/2 red capsicum, chopped
    1/2 green capsicum, chopped
    A sprinkle of chat masala
    lettuce leaves as needed
    spring onion, chopped as needed
    coriander leaves, chopped as needed

    Mam i always hated cooking chickpeas in my home and i found not cooking capsicum so weird and i did the same recipe as you mentioned and the crunch of the capsicum took the recipe to next level thank you so much

    It's very yummy.
    I usually do the similar thing and while serving I add lots of lemon juice and sprinkle rock salt. Lemon juice gives a nice aroma and enhance the taste will the rock salt enhance the taste and helps in digestion better

    Inspired by you, I brought a cast iron Tawa lately. During my research, I saw blogs saying tomato and lemon items should not be cooked in cast iron, since citric acid reacts with iron. I am confused about this, please help me with your comments.

    I have started to like your videos as you explain them in a suttle way. If you could help me with how to boil Brown/white chickpea to a smooth/mushy texture, i will be glad. i have tried to boil both kinds of chickpeas for long, still they remain bit hard.. kindly help...

      +Ubair Hamdani here is the trick, soak the chickpeas overnight or atleast 8 hours and then put in pressure cooker with enough water to cover the chickpea ideally water should be 1 inch above the chickpeas. pressure cook for 1 whistle and then put the flame on low for 15 mins, open once the pressure has reduced by itself.... and soft chickpea is ready. you can cool it down and store in fridge. BTW if there is water you can boil and reduce or use the chickpea water for your gravy. hope this helps and thanks for being here :)

    Just 1 cup of chickpeas contains 270 calories. Here, it mentions 2 cups which would be 540 calories approximately plus other ingredients. It would end up being around 700+ calories just for one meal. This isn't going to help lose weight.
    You can eat just one of those lettuce wraps to lose weight.

    One doubt.... Should we wash the rice chana legumes etc after soaking and cook them in fresh water... don't they lose nutrient value this way.. and secondly if you can suggest from where we can buy cast iron pans.... Thanks
