I can see someone getting 100 points in a game, but I can’t see a player ever grabbing 55 rebounds. Teams rarely get 50 rebounds in a game, let alone one player getting even 30 boards.

The rebound record will never get broken. In WIlt's era the overall competition was so bad at scoring that field goal percentage was in the toilet. So with all of those missed shots and Wilt being one of 4 players over 6 foot 9 in the league when Wilt first joined the NBA, rebounds were plentiful. There were a lot of guys pulling down tons of rebounds all the way until the early 70's because shooting was so poor.
His minutes record is also underrated. Not just for 1962, but also for his career he averaged 45.8 minutes per game. Number 2 is Bill Russell with 42 mpg, and the only player this century to get remotely close is Allen Iverson with 41

Even tho MJ's 63 points in a playoff game is considered breakable, I'm still amazed that no one (even himself) has broken it. It's been damn near 40 years and no one hasn't reached to even 60 points

Embiid is 82.6% from the line for his career. Last season it was 88%.
Nobody is hacking him on purpose because he's a bad foul shooter. His career high is 27 attempts at the line.
someone might eclipse Steph in most shooting statistics but ain’t no one ever gonna be as good of a shooter relative to era as Steph, he had 402 but he shot like 45% from 3 which is ridiculous that level of efficiency ain’t ever happening
I actually disagree with Andy's take only because a player would really have to have the trust of the coach and need the efficiency to break that record. Perhaps Luka could do it because they run so much of the offense thru him, but he doesn't have the efficiency rate u would need.
It feels very breakable, Steph curry archetypes will only increase as time goes on.
Look at Sheppard in this year's draft , literally shot 50% from 3 in college.
on top of that, curry literally sat thru so many 4th quarters that season😂

Exactly. It's the efficiency of both the player and the system. I just don't see someone as skilled as Steph coming along, yet alone with a perfect system for shooters 🤷
The 3 pt record is less breakable than it may seem imo. That season no one really knew how to go about defending a player like steph and they frequently switched on screens giving him so many wide open shots. No one defends shooters like that anymore so its gonna be a lot harder to break.
One thing is for sure; era, circumstances, and pacing can determine if a record is unbreakable or not.
With how fast players go up and down the court nowadays some scoring records could be up for grabs

Yeah the wilt 100 seems weird to me how everyone considers it as unbreakable as someone winning more rings than Russell
@@andycanoy863I will say never to 55 rebounds, 22.9 rpg for a career and 20,000+ rebounds in a career though. When it comes to points never say never, scoring is out of control now

One thing's for sure: The player to break Jordan's 63 in a playoff game is probably going to be the one who breaks Baylor's 284 in a series. If a player scores 64 in a game, they would "only" have to average 36.7 per game in the other six, and if that player drops 50 in another game in that series (which is definitely plausible that if you can score 64, you can do 50 again in the same series), they would have to average 34 in the other five.

I disagree on someone breaking Curry's 402 threes. None of the players who are threats to shooting enough threes to come close to that record play enough games. Luca has never played more than 72 in a season. Buddy Hield comes off the bench too much. Donovan Mitchell hasn't played more than 70 games since his second season. Tatum is the closest to being a threat due to good health, but he's never made more than 240 threes in a season and that was his worst shooting season when he did.
More shooting specific players are around now and are going to come around, and so I think l though the games played might not be as high, their raw shooting attempts and efficiency will

Some nuance around Jordans 63
1. On the broadcast beforehand, he said soloing would play right into their hands, so the team has be more cohesive and play team ball
2. The defence was not built to stop Jordan. Watch the game, it looks like rebiunding and inside shots were more contested. It was like the idea of letting ome man try and win. Rarely if ever works.
The 63 points were per se by design

Funny thing is that it almost worked. Heck, if they had the rule where 3 FTAs were awarded when fouled on a 3PA, Jordan might've won the game with 3 FTs with no time remaining and finished with 55 points instead of 63. Instead, he hit his two to send it to OT (which was pretty clutch in itself; game was over if he missed one).
That 1986 Bulls team was simply no match for a Boston team that lost 1 game at the Boston Garden that year (including playoffs!). Maybe the Bulls could've eeked out a W if they played more egalitarian and Jordan finished with ~45 points, but it's hard to argue with their game 2 strategy.
@@mrmacross The rest of the story of that game two: Jordan had an open shot at the elbow to win it at the end of the 1st overtime. He missed it, and then his next four shots in the 2nd OT. He missed five shots in a row, in what ended up as a 4 point loss.
Then, going home to have a chance to avoid the sweep, he scored.... just 19 points. The Chicago Bulls beat reporter wrote that he had gone golfing and got sick. (Probably code for 'went out gambling and drinking on the course, and was hung over,' imo.)
@@phillipschuman4307 We're kind of talking from both sides of the mouth here. Jordan shot a ton, the Bulls lost a competitive game at the Boston Garden (the Celtics lost one game there all year including the playoffs), so that's bad. Then in game 3, the Bulls spread out the ball more (Dave Corzine had as many combined FGA and FTA as Jordan but in fewer minutes), the Bulls lost a non-competitive game from start to finish, so that's also bad. I mean, the 1996 Bulls would've had a hard time beating these Celtics. Blaming one guy for why they lost is nonsense.

In game two, the Celtics final margin of 4 at the end of 2OT was their largest lead of the game. As much as MJ kept the Bulls in the game (actually, mostly in the LEAD), he also missed the open shot to win in the first OT, and then missed his next four shots in a row starting off in 2nd OT. It might be unfair to call that a choke, but it certainly would be called that for some other players.
After the first two games, MJ was averaging **56 points a game**. Obviously, he WAS the Bulls offense. Then both Corzine AND John Paxson out-scored him?? MJ led all players with 5 turnovers and 6 fouls. Was that the plan? Or was he 'sick,' as the Bulls beat writer reported (later, in his book)?
I think the steals record is much harder to break due to the sheer balm handling skills and the amount of shoving the offensive player can do without getting called. Anyway, 11 is just low to be honest.

@@jimgeary Yeah, it's really infuriating to see hoopers just do whatever they want to the ball. BUT the game evolved. WE have to see looser and looser calls on dribbling.
I mean, dribbling is easier now. That is a fact.
But steals are less impacted than things like blocks or general guarding is. You aren’t prohibited by more of the newer anti defense rules
Most records especially Wilt's are probably the hardest one though DeMar did once break one but still anything is possible.

Wilt had a Triple Double CAREER. Way past his prime, when blocks started to get counted, he got 8 blocks per game, so it is safe to assume that he got over 10 during his prime.
Yeah, regardless of his competition, it's insane to think the amount of blocks in Wilt's absurd dominance. His numbers are so insane from what we know, I wouldn't be surprised if he had like a ridiculous 20+ blocks per game in a season stat, or a stupid 40 blocks in a single game.... just Wilt things
Maybe. Maybe not. Wilt focused more on defense in some of those later seasons. We would just focus on particular stats to prove he could do it. Like the year he focused on assists. Might be he really chased blocks that year.
Whats going to be tougher to break is Elgin Baylor's 61 points in regulation of a playoff game. Jordans was on double OT. Getting to 62 by the 4th qtr of a playoff game will he super tough.
Yes, and in a Finals game too (Elgin still has the record for high scoring game in the Finals).
He also had 22 rebounds that game (vs. the Bill Russell Celtics).
Bubba wells is the best unbreakable record , to be fouled out in 3 Mins.
It's possible for someone to do it in less than the two minutes and 43 seconds Wells needed, but it'd take a coach like Nellie to be so brazen to employ the Hack-a-player strategy.
The way that the game is officiated these days I just automatically scale every scoring stat down by 20 percent to compensate for what would happen before the NBA became sports entertainment. Breaking a scoring record in this era doesn't really mean much to someone who watched the game 15 years ago or more.
You can say the same thing about Wilts' records being inflated.
@@CorneliusMagnus Wilt's stats were inflated. There were 3 players over 6 foot 9 when he came into the league. Shooting was so bad that his entire rebounding career is inflated. But not artificially inflated. Officiating with the purpose to inflate stats is artificial inflation. Wilt just played against shorter players that couldn't shoot. Wilt would still be great in any era, but he's not averaging 50 in a season or pulling down 50 rebounds in a game.
People don't understand Wilt. It's always: "He's the GOAT, or he played against plumbers and firemen." The truth is in between. His numbers are inflated, but they also dropped significantly early in his career, year by year, as players got better and teams got taller. It happened to Kareem in the same stretch. It wasn't physical decline, but the incline of height by the competition.
Wilt's numbers would be down in any era from 1980 to today. But watch the footage of Wilt running the fastbreak, dribbling and moving as fast as Jason Kidd or Steve Nash in their prime. This guy was over 7 foot moving like the fastest guys to ever run the break. Wilt could snatch a quarter off of the top of the backboard and once lifted a VW Bug off of the ground. If you don't think WIlt could play in todays game, watch footage of Wilt at the high elbow, running a motion offense like the Warriors (Modren NBA....) but the floor spacing was so horrible and there was no 3 point line. Wilt would destroy with the spacing that exists today. Probably lead the league in scoring and assists if he was on the Warriors. Ask Magic Johnson about the pick up game that he and James Worthy played with 50 year old WIlt against him and some of the UCLA players where Magic called game due to a bullshit goal tending call. WIlt told him that they are going to a 2 minute over time and that they would not score again, then preceded to block every shot put up by the current NBA champs.
Don't get things twisted. Wilt's stats were inflated, but not artificially like today's game, and if you think for one minute that Wilt couldn't dominate any era than you need to educate yourself and watch some film footage.

Honestly if you can get close or actually break Russ's triple double record then you basically you join a group of two other players which are Russ and Big O but that MVP season attached those consistent streaks of seasons averaging a triple double was insane
In terms of points, nowadays ref call much more fouls ñ, players ger much more and1s and the pace of the game is faster. That one reason they scpre more

💯 points in a game by a superstar and the most number of OTs would set breaking the record anytime soon.
For me the most unbreakable record of them all is Wilts 48.5 Minutes per game. That is genuinely crazy thinking that barely any players even get 40 or 41 minutes per game these days anyways. On top of that, Averaging more minutes then an actual nba game is crazy.
U think someone will Hit over 402 3s in a season ? Only way i could See that Happen is If someone IS avaraging like 55% or so but under "normal" % ? Dont think such a great Shooter will ever get AS many and AS many good Shot like that ever again.. only If like Luka or an unknown Player IS legit on f*ck*ng fire because of gasoline AND dry weather for a complet season from Game 1 to 82 with at Most 5-6 Games missed whole season😅😂

There is a player I think could have the potential to break that steals record, though it's a pretty off the wall guess because they're not in the NBA and not a particularly known prospect-- it is a South Korean player named Chae-Hyung Lee, who IIRC plays for Yonsei University.
He was a huge part of South Korea winning Gold at the 2022 FIBA U18 Asia Cup, I would argue the key piece (though he did not win MVP).
It was just a small sample size of 5 games, but he had two games where he achieved 10 steals (one game was actually a triple double w/ points and assists), and averaged 6.6 steals per game in the tournament.
I think the level of competition is low and there are certainly more mistakes for guys to take advantage of, I've seen some pretty wild averages (Abdramane Kanoute averages 4 spg in a FIBA U18 Africa tournament for instance), but 6.6 and getting 10 in 2 of the 5 games played is unreal even by FIBA youth tournament standards, I think that kid has some next level pass perception and/or reflexes.
I don't know where to find his college stats, and it doesn't seem like he elected to go pro in Korea or pursue some sort of NBA pathway, but I sincerely wonder what could become of him. For as raw as that tournament was, I feel as though there will be at least one future NBA player that comes from it and perhaps a few- (Hansen Yang, Mohammad Amini, Akira Jacobs?)
There is definitely SOME cause for intrigue- I think there is some possibility that his talent for steals is genuinely unique, and that he gets an opportunity to show it at the NBA level. Idk how likely though, but to me if there is anybody that warrants such speculation it would be him.
I still find it weird how with so many 3s and defense being a relic no one could ever think about reaching 100 points one day

I remember how golden state used to blow out teams in 2015-16 season because of their volume efficient 3pt shooting led by Curry. Nowadays Every team can shoot threes and no lead is safe anymore.
Per Game stats are more difficult to attain. It needs to have planets aligned to you in order to get it.
That Curry's 403 3pt should a "made" at the end and it will ve terrifying.
Elgin set the series points and playoff game records without a 3 point line. Hes better than all of the modern stars because of that. And 61 points in regulation.
Pretty crazy that even in this era of way higher scoring than ever before no one is really sniffing Kobes 83. Way more impressive than Wilts 100. Especially when you look into the details of that game. You can right now watch Kobe get all 83 legitimately. It could happen any day in this era. But it still hasn't happened.

I'm not convinced that Steph's 3-point record will be the first to be broken. Considering that almost all players or centers are now shooting behind the arc, the shooting volume will be divided among players on the floor. In Steph's time, it was the start of the 3-point era, and shooting bigs are not that popular yet. Unless there is another James Harden style of play where efficiency is not a factor, maybe. But I doubt it. For me, the 11-steal record is the first to be broken soon, considering that 23 times it is almost equal to or surpasses. Aside from that, it just needs a one-night, big-time performance of steals to surpass the current record. For the triple-double, I doubt it. Unless there is another self-centered Westbrick who will sacrifice team success for personal accolades.

That was the best three point shooting season he's had. Not to mention he was also one of the best three point shooters on his team that season, especially when accounting for volume.

I feel some team is going to break the record of most points in a regulation game in a few years. The current record is 173, set by the 1958-59 Celtics against the Lakers and tied by the 1990-91 Suns against the Nuggets. With offenses playing at a higher tempo than some of the teams in the 80's that were putting up 140-150 points on a regular basis, some team is going to have a near-perfect shooting night and get 174 without overtime.
I was at that suns game. Just insane. No team has tried to play that LMU style since, and the Suns said you wanna run, we’ll run.

I don’t agree with Stephs recod being breakable. Teams taking significantly more threes than in 2016 means that more players are taking threes, not that one individual player is taking a huge amount. To support this I’m sure that the warriors today are taking more threes than they did in 2016 yet steph hasnt broken his own record. I believe this record became even harder to break because if every player on a team can shoot threes then one player doesn’t have to or can’t put up as large a volume.
Don't forget the defensive rules during MJ's time where it's the other way around from what it is now.

2 out of the 5 times Jordan had bad teams the other 3 were solid championship teams. Only 3 out of those 9 were blow outs. Jordan had a 3 game series in 1992 which hurt which was due to games in the series neither teams or blow outs as well as 93.

284 points in a series can only be dome in 7 games. That’s why it has not happened.

The reason 55 rebounds could never be broken is because there was 20 more possessions a game in that era.
That Dwight ft record won't be broken anytime soon. Players today are much better ft shooters than in yrs past. No player that can't shoot is getting significant time. The few that do don't have the ball in their hands much. Even the big men are around 80% or more now. Davis, Embiid, Joker, Towns, etc. are all good ft shooters and Giannis is not terrible. (Around 60%).
