    What is lost on the entire Brunson thing is, he did accept the initial offer of the 4yrs/55 mil, however the Mavs waited until the trade deadline to see if they could have traded him before he signed the contract. Hence after he wasn't traded then he decided he wasn't going to sign the contract. So the Mavs screwed the pooch on that 1.

    The Mavs messed up that Brunson contract during the season but another thing to add here is that Leon Rose, the President of the Knicks, is also the father of Brunson's agent. Jalen's father is also an assistant coach on the team too. I think whatever the Mavs were offering, in the offseason or even while the season was still ongoing, is that he will go to New York regardless. Which, they were found guilty of tampering and were penalized by the league with the loss of a future draft pick.

    Brunson not signing with the Mavs is because they begged them to aign him for 44 million for 5 years at the start of the season but never got the response they wanted, after Brunson showed up in the playoffs they offered him the same deal which is insulting, also wheres Jalen Brown?

  • @TuNnL
    @TuNnL Год назад +32

    This was a great video featuring some awesome examples of betting on yourself, Andy. That being said, the Jalen Brunson saga is more a case of revenge and family connections, then betting on yourself.
    Brunson was perfectly willing to sign for that 4-year, $55.5 million extension. He would not have rejected that deal if the Dallas Mavericks had simply offered it to him as soon as he was eligible for it.
    The problem, like you alluded to, is that the Mavericks did NOT offer it to Brunson until after the trade deadline. By waiting until then, Dallas lost all of their leverage and ENABLED Jalen to bet on himself.
    The Mavs clearly failed to foresee that the New York Knicks would clear out a sh!tload of cap space and hire Brunson's father, Rick, to be an assistant coach prior to free agency. Rick hadn't coached pro ball for YEARS, but coincidentally (😉😉😉), the last time he did, it was for Tom Thibodeau on the Minnesota Timberwolves.
    Likewise, if they had traced the roots of Jalen's agent, Sam Rose of CAA, they would have learned he was the son of Leon Rose, President of the Knicks, and the FOUNDER of CAA. Did I mention that Leon was ALSO Papa Rick Brunson's agent when HE was an NBA player? 😉🏀💰

    • @randygram9310
      @randygram9310 Год назад +2

      Thanks for the info. Mavs really fumbled with Brunson by refusing to sign him early on.
      Mark Cuban has screwed up a number of times. Cuban refused to match the offer that the Suns gave Steve Nash -- one of the dumber mistakes in NBA history as Nash went on to win two MVPs. No doubt Mavs could have won another title or two during the Nowitski era simply by keeping Nash. Then Cuban duplicates the exact same feat with Brunson -- losing him for nothing -- and the Mavs are much worse without him.
      Cuban also infamously refused to draft Giannis -- even with his GM, Nelson Jr., begging him to take the 'Greek Freak'. Bucks took Giannis with the next pick after the Mavs and the rest is history. Nelson Jr. got them to draft Luka but he was fired last year so I expect Mavs problems to get worse. After firing Nelson Jr., Cuban traded away Porzingas but got very little for him. And didn't even get salary cap relief from the trade as Bertans has one of the worst contracts in the league.
      As to the Kyrie trade..... entertaining but don't see it turning them into a serious contender for a title.

    • @TuNnL
      @TuNnL Год назад

      @@randygram9310 Jason Kidd is going to have his hands full getting Luka Dončić to buy in to a two-guard lineup with Kyrie Irving. Uncle Drew has played off ball for many years doing it in Cleveland, Boston and Brooklyn.
      Dončić, on the other hand, was at his best when Jalen Brunson tailored his game to complement Luka. This will be a first and a major adjustment for Dončić, so if he wants Kyrie, who has proven he can carry the Mavs all by himself, to stick around, he'll have to embrace that change.
      Otherwise, I'm hearing potential Dallas backup plans to sign-and-trade Irving to the L.A. Lakers for D'Angelo Russell in a double sign-and-trade. 🏀

    Jimmy was originally about to get traded with Doug McDermott for Kevin Love in the 2014 off season. The crazy thing is actually that the Bulls DIDN’T do it. That trade would’ve taken Love off the Cavs radar and gotten the Bulls the Best Power Forward in the league, who was putting up 26, 13, & 5 a night. This was on top of Carmelo Anthony ready to join the Bulls. This would’ve nearly guaranteed the Championship or at least a Finals run. Carmelo got the offer from NYK and decided money is more important than winning. The Bulls wouldn’t up their contract offer because they wouldn’t be able to keep Taj Gibson. Carmelo re-signed with NYK. The Bulls wouldn’t trade for Kevin Love not because of Jimmy, but because of Doug McDermott. (who Thibs never let off the bench anyway)

    What about my man Kyle Lowry? He bet on himself three times and won each time. First, it was when he was with the Rockets. The Rockets didn't extend him and let him shop via restricted free agency. His agent was able to get an offer sheet from Cleveland and the Rockets matched the offer sheet of 4 yrs, 24mil. Which was a mistake because they offered him a low two year extension with two club option years. When he got traded to Toronto, his played out before cashing in the unrestricted free agency at summer of 2017 and got a 4 yr 130 mil after he turned down a smaller 4 year offer from Rapts. Now got another 3 year deal from Miami that will paid him $85 until end of 2024 season at age 37 after Toronto balked at paying him that much and did a sign and trade for him. This is the ultimate betting on himself on every chance possible and win at every turn. He might not get the most money, but he definitely came out much richer than the original offers each time.

    I think its risky as hell to bet on yourself if you get an offer in ten million range. With that kind of monet you can easily live the rest of your life very comfortably. You can never know when your career can end in a bad injury or if you can really get better and get a more lucrative deal.

    Idk , I don't come from that kinda money ....So maybe my answer sounds simplistic or naive.
    But if im getting offered 40-50 mill and it seems to be in-line with market value ....I'm snatching that money before they realize nobody is really worth that much money 🤣
    Mostly all of these players are replaceable , it just depends on timing , leverage , and whether that team realizes there's other options to pivot to.
    Plus , how many millions of dollars can 1 individual hope to spend in their lifetime?!
    There's a saying ....." A bird in the hand , is better than 2 in the bush "
