That commitment is what we must remember. These little creatures find water and they rely on it daily. Just as they do for their bird feeders to be full of food. But they bring such joy, it is paid back over and over with the beauty they bring our lives. Thanks for this. It really was inspiring. ✌🏻🤍
Thanks for the video. As for a possible way to keep the water filled during hot weather I might have an idea some people could use. I live in the desert and have many raised beds for vegetables. I need to water multiple times per day, so I have drip irrigation set on timers. A line could be run to the bird bath and every time the plants got watered, the bird bath would be filled or overfilled. Having it near a plant that could use the water that spilled would make it really efficient. Or drip line timers are pretty cheap, so one could be run just for the bird bath. It's super simple to run drip lines. I've been doing this for my chickens for two years and it has worked perfectly. A line tops off their watering buckets multiple times per day, and I only have to clean the buckets a couple of times a year. So a daily chore has been completely eliminated using that system.
I was going to suggest a very similar thing! When I lived in Henderson, Nevada, I had dedicated a zone on my sprinkler/irrigation system to keep a large terracotta plate full of water. The timer was set to run for 2-3 minutes every hour of the day and the constant refresh of water kept the algae issue at bay. I had hide the water line under a pile of river rocks and after several months was an extremely popular visiting spot for all manner of critters, especially birds. It worked fantastically.
I really, really appreciate it when content creators do updates---of all kinds! It is easy to fall for an idea that looks exciting at first glance...but it's even more important to know how things work after a month or a year of being implemented, and if it didn't work, why.
I had no idea how much fun watching the birds and other wildlife would be ….now I have 4 different types …all with a bubbler such as yours. I have them where I can see them from my window… great entertainment !
Hi Jeff! I just made one of these quickly! Thanks for the idea! I took and added a 1/4" drip line from my irrigation to the saucer so that each time I water, it automatically fills the fountain. I'm in SoCal, bit of a heat wave for the past few weeks, so I hope it's being used! The hummingbirds do enjoy it, and yhe cat can watch from the window! Happy gardening!
I have a similar set up but I use a food grade bucket and use a longer hose. Burried the bucket so top tray is about two inches above soil level. The bucket can hold five gallons so I summer I have weeks before refill needed.
Thank you for this update - I wondered how this would work out in the long run when I saw the video where you installed this - so functional and practical! Thanks for mentioning the difference river stones made compared to gravel. I especially enjoyed seeing your visitors. I plan to do something like this where I live in the Southwestern New Mexico desert.
This is lovely. You got me thinking, maybe digging a hole for a big bucket underneath for a nice deep water reserve with the small bath on top would work well for my situation. I also have mine in a sunny spot and it runs dry way too fast.
The first video and this one are very clear, precise, easy to follow & very helpful! I'm on a terrace in the hot San Fernando Valley & have been noticing more dead birds than usual so I ended up here while researching for DIY solar powered bird bath/fountain solutions. Thanks!
Great video! A true exploration into significance of water supplies to the natural world.. you're probably getting more traffic than an average bird table that way..
I watched both of your videos. I already had river rock in my garden, and also a nice birdbath, so all I needed was the solar pump. It's up and running. I hope the birds and other creatures enjoy it as much as I do. Thanks for sharing.
Great update. I'm will be adding one to my front yard and backyard also. Don't even have to buy anything, I have all the things either in my cottage or in the yard of my house.
Love the fountain! I live near a river but in a valley with no water. Needless to say I'm always refilling the cat bowls 😂Now I know why! I really want to make a solar one, as I have nothing but sun 🙄Thanks, I'll look for your other video for the info.
I like it, but I always try to stress to people whenever you have large amounts of water like that it does attract the bees and butterflies and it ends up killing, bees, wasps, bugs, spiders they all want to drink too, so if you could make another one a little bit deeper with high rocks, so that bugs do not drown, especially the pollinators That would be so special and and use daily more than you know it’s kind of fun watching
Thank you. Just want to keep this simple & your is the best fountain so far. I've just been putting out a container with fresh water morning & night & even just that is appreciated.
Thanks for the update. I'm still waiting for activity from any bird. And looking for a deeper/wider container so I don't have to refill daily in this heat.
That's awesome....I do the same thing with a stand-up birdbath. It is crazy how many animals seem to rely on the clean water. Even if they don't "rely" on it,... I like to provide them clean drinking clean water. I also have a few vids of the birds, bear, chipmunks, squirrels, fox etc... at the birdbath on my channel also. Keep up the animal vids. My wife and I Love to watch them on Yt.
Just saw your original video so thank you for this update. I loved seeing all the visitor's. This is definitely on my to do list! So easy but so effective.
It´s wonderful to see how many different birds as well as foxes and cats come to visit your solar fountain! I will definitely set up one in my organic garden, can´t wait! The stones also seem to make them feel at home, thanks for the video!
The St. Augustine grass, live oak trees, and the rain bushes by your fountain all looked like a very familiar place to me! Looks like a nice neighborhood! Your fountain idea is wonderful, and I plan to make one for my backyard. Thank you!
Beautiful! Need this in our yard here in the CA desert. Off to your link! (edit) The vid of the making of this fountain was already saved. In fact, it is the only vid to be downloaded in the yr of having this tablet 💜. We'll have at least one by July. Thank You!!!
I am in the California mojave desert, Joshua Tree, Calif 🏜️😎💕 4 fountains⛲&4 seed feeds,in an apt!!! I love watching the different kinds of birds, need a nectar feeder now,cuz hummingbirds are coming to drink the water⛲...need some nourishment for them, gonna get a nectar feeder when in town....🌼🌹🌺🌻
What a wonderful setup. Simple, but very effective and well-used! I've been considering putting in such a fountain. So, this is very helpful. I was looking at solar pumps online, and saw there are some that have a battery to keep the pump going after dark. And some that shut down if the water level gets too low, so that the motor doesn't burn up. :) Contemplating that option.
My cousin and I are always sending each other things for our yards. She sent me a ground level birdbath similar to yours. I told her this morning, I wanted to add a small fountain to it. And here yours popped up on RUclips. Exactly what I wanted to create. Thanks for a great video, enjoyed all the animals and good filming. Liked and Subbed.
I really like the river rocks. Nice change. Amazing how many creatures have come to rely on your fountain. Very kind of you to continue to care for them. Your garden is filling out nicely.
Hi. I didn't think that bees came to water fountains. I have had a bird bath for years that is heated which I need in Georgia, and I have a pool with a spillway that the birds take a bath in daily, but I want to add a bubbler on the bird bath. So question, what is the solar pump that you used that is round instead of the square black boxy ones that are generally available? And I have a lot of trees and shade on the house in the afternoon, so the solar panel will not work right? I was looking into a mini pump that has a USB to attack to a solar battery that I have. Really great to see all the animals you have, and I like the river rocks much better too. God bless.
Thank you! I want to get some colorful marbles, stones, smoothed down glass and make one just for the bees. Does anyone know if the colored stones will help attract the bees?
I used a Zmodo Security Camera. My favorite part about the camera is that it has intelligent recording so the camera instantly alerted me when a new animal visited. Here’s a link a.co/d/8efdHPt
Fantastic video. Thanks for all the work for providing the fountain and keeping it going. Quick question for you or anyone. I think I read once that bees do not care for clean water. They prefer dirty mud puddles or such. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks again and Jesus bless.
I was looking up ground birdbaths and your video came up. I didn't see your first video, but I really like your idea. What is the saucer made of? Terra cotta? I want to make one just like yours. I like the idea of it being at ground level, and all the wildlife having access to water they may never find elsewhere Thank you for sharing. 😊 I'll order the pump from your link. Thank you.
The saucer I’m using a 21in saucer made of plastic I got it on amazon. I like this one because it’s a little deeper then your average plant saucer a.co/d/bm41scp Thanks for watching!
I'm in Missouri and mine froze and broke over the winter. I looked into getting a water heater but have no access to electric where mine is located. I have mine positioned under my carport where the rainwater drips into the basin. Thank you for sharing your videos.
Thanks for the update. Mine is nearly identical but I haven't seen any birds. They're also not eating out of my feeders. I'm also looking for a bigger container so I don't have to refill daily in this heat.
Hello. I would like to praise you for your project, especially after replacing the stones in the fountain, everything looks really nice and the water is beautifully clean. How often do you add water? I would also like to know if you have a problem with predators (cats and the like)? I'm planning something similar in my garden, but I'm worried that the birds won't fall easy prey to cats for example, since there are a lot of birds in my garden, but cats for example, unfortunately even more and the fountain will be on the ground just like yours... Tank you.
If you have a lot of cats in the area during the day, I would not put the fountain on the ground. Or if that is not an option, keep it in a open area but close enough to a tree or shrubs so that birds have somewhere to hide if a cat suddenly appears. I have the same issue so keep all my bird baths on some kind of pedestals. Usually something homemade like a tall log, a DIY garden bench or hanging from a tree.
Love the footage of the critters visiting the fountain! Thanks for the video!
That commitment is what we must remember. These little creatures find water and they rely on it daily. Just as they do for their bird feeders to be full of food. its really simple add a basin underneath.

Directions, as to how to make\fix the basin, please?

thank you for proving water for all of those sweet animals. God Bless you.
I live in the desert, the birds will love it!
That's exactly what I was looking for, for my first fountain.
How cool. All those animals dropping by.

Great video of your little visitors! We can do a little and still help nature alot.

It’s awesome to see how many critters are making good use of your efforts.

This is wonderful. I love how you keep the fountain for the animals
Wow Jeff, you sure have a variety of visitors. Thanks for the update.
One of the very best
you seem like such a great guy!
Fabulous! Thanks for update. Amazing number of critters!
I love the videos of your fountain visitors! Thank you! 🙂
Great Jeff! Hope you effort inspires many many people.
Great video! A true exploration into significance of water supplies to the natural world.. you're probably getting more traffic than an average bird table that way..
THIS WAS AWESOME! And I LOVE ANIMALS so this totally just pleases my heart! I will be putting these at my church garden next! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thanks for the update. The birds and others often prefer the more shallow containers like you chose.
Thanks for the update. I appreciate your love for helping the animals.
Wow! So cool to see all the animals that need it. You could make other ones for them.
That is so cool. I’m amazed at all of the animals that use it.
I loved watching the video of all your visitors…..thanks for sharing.
I learned the same about the rocks and ease of cleaning. river rocks are the way to go!
I watched both of your videos. I already had river rock in my garden, and also a nice birdbath, so all I needed was the solar pump. It's up and running. I hope the birds and other creatures enjoy it as much as I do. Thanks for sharing.

You’re helping so many animals! Thank you so much for that! 🥰
I have a 1/2 gallon drip line on my drip irrigation feeding my bird bath. It fills my bird bath and I do not worry about it running dry.
Thanks so much for the update. I loved the pictures of the critters taking advantage of the fountain. Now I KNOW I want to make one!!
Fantastic! It was nice to see the video of all birds etc that came for a drink. :)
I loved the follow-up with the camera!😊
Thank you. Just want to keep this simple & your is the best fountain so far. I've just been putting out a container with fresh water morning & night & even just that is appreciated.
Add a small piece of copper pipe, it will help prevent algae.
Good tip.
Will Copper Pennies work?
copper tape against 'murder' snails too of which enjoy moist environment
Except the arsenic from the copper will kill the animals.
Good job young man keep up the good work it looks really great. I’ve got solar fountains myself. Good job.
That's awesome! How thoughtful you are for all the woodland critters 🤗
That's awesome! I'd imagine it also needs topping up to replace the water consumed by all the critters 🙂
Thanks for the update. I'm still waiting for activity from any bird. And looking for a deeper/wider container so I don't have to refill daily in this heat.

so cool. i just leave a bowl of water near our koi pond but this looks great

Thank you for the update! Can't waitvto make this!
Thank you for this video .. I can't wait to get my fountain started ❤😊
Great update!! It’s clearer why this works better and your camera caught the necessity of water for many needs! So interesting to see! Thanks!

I love your fountain, I ordered my fountain pump and I’m on a quest for a perfect container! I’m so excited! 😊
You've inspired me to create one of these too! 🤗
LOVE this! Saved to faves - might try and copy it. 💕
Thank you for this update. I'm going to put one in myself.😁
Love the video and want to this but am wondering how you place the electricity/ motor for the fountain.
Thank you! I want to get some colorful marbles, stones, smoothed down glass and make one just for the bees. Does anyone know if the colored stones will help attract the bees?
What security camera did you use to record the wildlife? I especially like that you could see the nighttime critters clearly.

you could dig a hole and burry a 5 gallon bucket below the tray and have that as your reservoir

Thank you. I ended buying 2 solar pumps. 😊👍
thank you
Put a bottom tub below it and put the pump in the tub; that'll retain water longer.
Ha I watched the first video and wondered how often you had to full it. Now I know. Just sub to your channel.
I'm in Missouri and mine froze and broke over the winter. I looked into getting a water heater but have no access to electric where mine is located. I have mine positioned under my carport where the rainwater drips into the basin. Thank you for sharing your videos.
You've given me Spring Fever and now I'm ready to make a garden plan just like yours!
Very cool congrats 🙌
Thanks for the update. Mine is nearly identical but I haven't seen any birds. They're also not eating out of my feeders. I'm also looking for a bigger container so I don't have to refill daily in this heat.
This is so sweet! God bless you..
I watched both videos. Are you still using the same water pump? If so would you please share link here. Love the new rocks.
this is awesome! and great video. i'll definitely considering making one of these!
So neat - love the update!
Very cool fountain ... I wonder where to get pump and what's best pump ... Solar?
I’ve been using a 1.5w pump like this one on Amazon. Biling Solar Water Fountain Pump 1.5w a.co/d/aoMeQvl
