    This week Chasing Cars deputy editor Nathan Ponchard comprehensively tests the 2022 Audi A4 45 TFSI Quattro S Line sedan and sees whether it’s worth buying in alternative to a BMW 330i, Mercedes-Benz C300, Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce or Jaguar XE P300.
    The 2.0-litre turbo Audi has AWD where most if its rivals have RWD - does this make a difference? And is this the right specification of Audi to buy?

    • @boston9090
      @boston9090 2 года назад

      @@Vic292 The inline 6 was sublime. I am not referring to the turbo 4 in my comment though. In the move from hydraulic to electric steering there was a significant loss in steering feedback. And the handling in today's MSport feels synthetic compared to the natural handling of the e46. And with the cars getting bigger it also makes it more difficult to achieve pure driving dynamics. So BMW has fallen from the pinnacle it was able to achieve in earlier generations. And though not trying to recreate the pure driving dynamics of the e46, Audi has made strides and closed the gap.

    • @Vic292
      @Vic292 2 года назад

      @@boston9090 Well perhaps you should’ve clarified your point earlier, because your response was very vague. I think the steering is actually great in the late model 3series (at least mine is fantastic). I owned an older BMW at one point and the steering was horrendously stiff and unresponsive. I have also owned an A4 before and the steering definitely wasn’t on par with BMW. No offense, but Audi still has a long way to go. I’ll never go back to that brand, especially with their problematic engines that guzzle oil like crazy.

      Audi has had pretty much the same interior since 2017, with some minor changes to the infotainment system in 2020 with the refresh. That’s why most think it’s outdated but to me it has aged super well and it still looks good even after so many years. I bought a new 2021 model a4 instead of a used 2017 because I like the touch screen more and the bigger screen and the wireless apple CarPlay and the adaptive cruise control and active lane keep assist and virtual cockpit which is still class leading with the premium plus package. You couldn’t get those driver assistance stuff before on mid trim a4 and was only available in prestige so it’s a big bonus that they made it more attainable. Plus the chip shortage , a used 2017 a4 still cost over 30k usd when a new one is 40 to 50 k so it was no brained to purchase it new.

    Awful gloss back interior (easy to scuff and damage). The A4 is badly in need of a replacement, as this platform is so far behind BMW and Merc. C class has a fantastic new interior unlike the A4's iPad welded to the dash, and the 3 series is just a better all rounder with handling and infotainment and practicality (looks much better too).
    Safety needs to be a bigger concern too. BMW and Merc pretty much include all safety tech equipment as part of their base model sedans (320i, C200), as do Genesis and Lexus. There's no reason why a 70k car needs additional options to be more safe, and no, a 4wd system is not a safety option. If the driver wants to turn it off, it is to their choice, but it should be included as part of the car's base price.

    • @anthonyfarnan5935
      @anthonyfarnan5935 2 года назад +1

      A4 is on the MLB Evo platform… and was first released in 2016. Same platform as the Bentley Bentayga and Q7. Drive one and you’ll understand what the word refinement means.
      Putting aside the iPad welded to the dash, the A4 is not “badly in need of replacement”.
      A4 has only been surpassed in terms of interior tech / design (arguably) by the new 3 series and new C class in the last 2 years.

    • @andrew22334455
      @andrew22334455 2 года назад

      @@anthonyfarnan5935 I have driven one. Also drove the current IS, C300 and 330i. The A4 doesn't have a patch on any of those 3. Sharing a platform doesn't equal refinement. The lexus was easily the most refined (i.e. for older people), and the 3 the most sporty and dynamic to drive. The Merc was a decent drive, but I didn't like how it looked, and it wasn't my style.
      A4's interior, bar the infotainment, is pretty much the same as it was in 2016.
      A4 is clearly better than the last gen 3 series, which first debuted in 2012 (F30), but isn't remotely in the same class as the current G20. Same applies for the current Merc and Genesis offerings too.
