Tom reviews the new 2021 Audi A5 Sportback 45 TFSI Quattro and provides an expert opinion.
Is the A5 Sportback the best all-round Audi car? Tom takes a close look at the updated and refreshed 2021 A5 Sportback, which includes a new look outside, a revised interior with a new touchscreen, and mild hybrid technology under the bonnet. Equipped with a fast, smooth 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine and AWD, the A5 Sportback would make a great addition to your garage, we think. But should you go for an A5 over a BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe? And what options should you select, or avoid?
In today’s view, Tom Baker from Chasing Cars conducts a review of this new five-door hatchback from Audi, finished in sparkling grey metallic paint over silver accents with a black leather interior.
What do you think of the new A5 Sportback? Do you prefer a traditional sedan or a five-door setup like this? Are four cylinders enough? Let me know all your thoughts in the comments box below.

We own a 2019 A5 Sportback S Line Prestige, LOVE IT! I love the "wheel" over the touch screen, just for practicality of not reach(ing) and having the security of close-at- and in-hand secure feel, knowing that both me and the wife are equally at home interfacing the MMI... Excellent content. So bang-on. Please, bring us more.

I really like the look of these as well, and am a fan of the liftback shape. When I've been looking at the Octavia's I do remember thinking 'if only it had a nicer interior and was 4wd'. Guess I'll be taking one of these for a spin when my lease is up next year (provided the Australian economy hasn't collapsed)

    • @ahlsn7346
      @ahlsn7346 4 года назад +4

I own this A5 45 tfsi and I've test driven the 330i so I can give some hints. Both engines are very good but the 330i feels a little bit stronger. The BMW is very agile and flows in the corners when driving hard while the Audi heavily uses torque vectoring and gripping. The Audi does however not feel that front heavy as older Audis did and the Audi is easier to driver hard. Also driving straight on the highway the Audi feels more planted while the BMW may feel a bit nervous. Both are really great cars but they drive a bit differently so I can recommend a test drive.

I know so many of my friends and myself included, when you pass your 30's you need that liftback for family purpuses. Reason number one why in EU, Skoda Octavia was the best sold saloon car.

I haven’t - and I think it’s very telling that Audi specify their press cars on 20” wheels with adaptive dampers, despite the fact that combination requires spending $6,000 more than the standard 45 TFSI which rolls on 19” wheels in Australia. My opinion is the 19” wheels are fine on passive dampers but if I was going to go for 20s you want adaptive dampers.

GBGOLC - agreed. Was in the market early last year for an A6 and looked at the 2018 vs 2019 versions. 2018 was outdated with the old MMI (which was already 6 years old) vs the new MMI. Quickly chose the 2019 b/c of the interior and new MMI.

DJ josh - If that’s true, then why does the SQ8, S7, S6, S8, E-Tron and E-Tron GT all have the updated interior?? Reality is they are deliberately slow rolling the rest of the lineup later to be more profitable. The A4, A5, Q5, and Q7 are Audi’s most popular lines already, and therefore, the last to see the new change up. It’s not coincidental all these have yet to see the new MMI 2.0 touchscreen upgrades yet.

At 5:14 he spoke, spoke, spoke, and spoke a little more again about boot and did not inform the capacity of the trunk or boot, something that is essential in a sedan.

It's 480 litres. I think that in Australia we don't get quite so hung up on boot literage, and more on overall size, space and usability.

    • @avaliacarros7739

@@chasingcars Thanks for answer and explanation. Here in Brazil sedans with less than 470 liters of trunk or boot the same capacity of trunk of the MOST SELLING CAR IN THE WORLD, the Toyota Corolla, are bound to fail. They are bound to be replaced by an SUV. The Corolla is the best selling medium sedan in Brazil. The best-selling compact sedan in Brazil, the Chevrolet Onix Plus has a trunk with 469 liters of capacity, one liter only smaller than that of the Corolla. For example, Hyundai Elantra is no longer sold in Brazil, it sold very little, here nobody buys sedans with mediocre trunk. Look for a playlist on my channel called SEDÃS TOP 500 there you will better understand the Brazilian SEDANS market.

Leon Palmer A6/A7-Cars do have longer wheelbase than A5. Thus, many bodywork-parts below the obviously exterior-differentiation are A6/A7-specific.
A6/A7 also offers PHEV. A5 does not.
Same counts for interior. A6/A7 has 2 touch display below the dashboard, A5 couldn’t fit it in.
As well as autonomous driving. A6/A7 does offer different LIDAR/RADAR-Sensors, which are not being offered within A5...

I own this car now for 4 months in the EU and it's a lovely vehicle concerning driving, design, luxury, quality, ...
Software wise I got to say I am disappointed quite a bit, here are some examples:
    - Your phone has to be connected via cable either under the airco or in the cubby under the armrest. Using a cable in the latter case is a fiddling pain, even finding such a short cable.
    - Get the upgraded wireless charging because here in the EU the light version charges superslow
    - Although virtual cockpit is super nice, it cant work with the google maps or waze. It only uses only the GPS software that Audi delivers and is far inferior so what is the added value there?
In comparison the Polestar 2 has the right vision.
    - The voice assistant of Audi is terrible compared to google assistant which you can use, but what is Audi's added value there then?
    - And then lots of small bugs like synchronisation of contacts with the car (no problem with Android Auto), music switches between folders and you cant turn it off.
==> My big suggestion to Audi would be to integrate phones software even more and either step up their own software or ditch it completely because it's never as good
In conclusion, they know how to build cars really good but on software they have tons of unused potential

Hopefully, they will release android automotive models soon. Im suprised the ev's audi has dont have android automotive like the polestar 2. They were one of the two(volvo and Audi) that showed android automotive interfaces at google io.
