    Sexlessness. Sharing a bed with someone who doesn’t acknowledge you are a sexual being hurts so much. I was in a sexless marriage for years. Being a woman with a high libido, I felt inadequate. Worst I feel invisible. The man who was “supposed” to want me, just didn’t. We talked about it many times, more than I can recall now. It was always me. I wanted too much - once a week was too much for him. I didn’t initiate - he was always complaining of headaches, stomaches, always stressed, always tired. I was too sexual - when being subtle doesn’t work, what is next? Explicitly saying I wanted sex. Oh but then it was not appropriate. Conversations would end up with him saying he didn’t feel desired or I made him feel emasculated because he didn’t want sex as much as I did. Yeah, it was always me. I could never win. While we were dating we would have a decent amount of sex, it was good. The first huge red flag was not having sex in our honeymoon - which I ignored. It rapidly decrease to once a week, then every other week. Years gone by it was months in between, by the time we divorced it was over a year with no sex. I cried myself to sleep more times that I can count. I didn’t understand what was wrong with me. Was I that undesirable? Was I repulsive? After those conversations, I just stopped trying, initiating, mentioning sex. We were still loving - holding hands, hugging, kissing - but sex was off the table. He then cheated on me. Swore he had sex only 4 times in a year (or more) long affair. It didn’t matter. For years my self worth was damaged by him, years of low self esteem, years of feeling less of a woman, the marriage that was more than over, waiting in hospice, really ended. Funny how things are, I asked him for a divorce, he manipulated me into staying, next day his infidelity came to light. I was out as soon as I could. Best thing of my life. Additionally, That feeling when your partner cheated and you don't have the courage to leave him / her so you just death with the pain and live everyday asking questions about your worth. This pain is different from the cheating one_living and seeing him everywhere anticipating when he or she do it again. The best thing is to hire a private investigator digitalinvestigate@gmail.com to help you spy on their cellphone remotely just like he did for me...

    Dr. Ramani, thank you for this! I have personally found it's better to be alone. At least for me. I once couldn't imagine living my life growing old alone, but after what I have been through and seen and the fact that this seems all too rampant, it's better safe than sorry. Peace is priceless.

    A perfect marriage or relationship is an illusion; there's no universal playbook for making them work. What's effective for one couple may not apply to another. Nevertheless, I've come to understand that there's always a solution to be found. Half a decade ago, my wife and I faced such trials in our marriage that divorce seemed inevitable. Yet, through perseverance and determination, we navigated through the rough waters and emerged stronger, reunited, and more resilient

    Love addiction might be a thing, but you also have to admit that society sold us, particularly women and girls, a bad bill of goods about relationships. We are shamed into getting in relationships and bullied if we are 'single cat women'. I love cats, and I prefer being single, especially after dealing with narcissists. I would bet the 'love addict' would change easily if they had better information, not the flat out lies about what happens in hetero relationships.

She gave a lot of affection and closeness at the beginning and I became addicted, then when she started to pull away and devalue I was devastated, people I worked with started to see it just looking at me. Well now ten years later when she tried to hoover, she’s blocked.

    I am the kind of love addict Dr. Ramani describes in this video & she described my narcissistic relationship to a T. including the physical health & mental health consequences. Also helps explain why I stuck around for 20 years despite the fact that we had no children nor was I dependent upon him financially. It made me cry a little bit to hear this video, but it also made me feel better. A lot of it is what I already suspected. Hearing it put so well and so succinctly by Dr. Ramani softens the sting a bit and gives me more permission to let it all go and focus on healing.

    This was me 10 years ago when I met my narcissist. What I would give to know then what I know now.!! I'm 9 years in and I now know exactly what I'm dealing with, and still don't have the heart to leave. But it's not because I'm addicted to love. It's because I feel immensely guilty for leaving him. There's definitely an addictive quality to our relationship, but I'm no longer snowed by his facade. I know exactly who he is, and there are parts of him I love deeply, but it is truly painful to be his partner.
    Thank you for making this content, Dr. It's been a Godsend for me to make sense of the insanity I'm living in. 🙏💙🙏

    • @carriemccurley-th8gn
      @carriemccurley-th8gn Месяц назад

      If he is a true Narc you won't see all of who he really is until you leave. That's when the mask completely falls and when you see how evil they can be. Even then it can take years as they hoover and morph like a chameleon over and over to suck you back. Don't ever go back because this is where they punish you even worse. Eventually, you will see you loved who he made himself to be, who you wanted him to be, but none of who he was at all. He will only get worse as time goes on. They prey on strong, kindhearted, loving, empathetic souls so don't beat yourself up. It's actually quite a compliment. Like Dr. Ramani says, "IT'S NOT YOU". If you can get the strength to leave for good, you will find the warrior within.

    It's the worst when you are friends with a love addict and you also know about the narcissist. Even if your friend comes to you for advice you are always put in a precarious position.
    If you try to warn your friend, you get accused of being discouraging of the relationship, or worse, if you're single you get accused of jealousy or sabotage.
    In your heart of hearts, you know how the relationship is going to end but the love addicted friend refuses to see it for what it is or what it will become.
    And you know when the relationship inevitably fails you are the first shoulder the love addict friend cries upon. And you never want to be the jerk who says "I told you so!"
    It's a three-way you never want to be involved in. I have actually lost a few friends over this because I resolved to let them find out for themselves.
    And if experience is the best teacher, maybe they need to take as many refresher courses as they need until they figure out the difference between healthy and toxic.

    • @MrsEd-fh2gs
      @MrsEd-fh2gs Месяц назад +6

      What I just posted above may sound cold. But I see it this way:
      If you warn someone about a giant hole in the middle of the street and they walk and fall in it anyway, what do you do as a friend or any compassionate human being? You go over, help them out of the hole, dust them off, maybe kiss a boo-boo or two and send them on their way.
      But if you see them walking and you warn them again about the same hole but they fall in anyway, after the 5th or 6th time it gets old really, really quickly.
      There's only so much you can do to try to be a good friend for such a person.

    I had love addict patterns in my dating, but objectively it wasn’t compulsive because I had intentions to create a long-term stable relationship and I didn’t hop from one dating partner to the next. For me it has always been emotional starvation or compulsive seeking. I’ve gotten a lot better at being happy with God. Sometimes I just feel like it’s a life unseen, though, and I wonder how long. There isn’t going to be that one person who comes in to make it all better, but it’s hard not to want a change for the better. 😢

    I've noticed that proper boundaries are always missing in people with bad or pathological relationship skills. They cannot comprehend that you are a whole person with your own needs and self. They see you as a reflection of themselves and so constantly assault your boundaries. It could be the positive version such as love addiction, or the negative, narcissism. But the key is to learn how to both hold and respect boundaries. As long as we are unclear about those, everything else is up for grabs. People need to learn this, and take steps to set themselves up so that their lives support their boundaries. Boundaries are our own self defense against toxicity. A person who loves and cherishes you will respect your boundaries.

Hasn’t not been in a relationship since she was 14. She’s 21 now. Got together with me 2 weeks after she dropped her ex before me! I was so starved for affection that I blatantly ignored the signs. I’m really really really not okay atm… I have so much trauma from what she did to me. Hitting me, putting me down, throwing things at me. You name it she did it. Told me to kill my self everything under the sun. Going to see a doctor tomorrow and start a mental health plan. Haven’t spoken to her in a week. Blocked her on everything except messages in case she wants to apologise or whatever. But I doubt it… she’s a narc it’s practically impossible without their being an alterior motive behind or just manipulation.

    Great clip - so true! How do we get through excruciatingly painful impasses? What is missing, since we cannot undo the past? We could become aware that competition and cooperation are not mutually exclusive, but require a balance along the continuum. Humans must, and do, compete and cooperate at the same time, all the time, usually unaware (subconscious stuff, trauma, outdated adaptation to inadequate families, suffering). Love addiction is dysfunctional cooperation; narcissism dysfunctional competition. We can be aware of the balance in each situation, each relationship, each moment. We are all competing and cooperating, so let's talk about that balance in this context, too. It ain't rocket science, and it would put us on less judgmental common ground. 🌷

This is mind blowing! I have a wonderful friend in her 40s. This describes her!! I think the dude she is hooked on may be narc but not sure. But he’s definitely unavailable.. this video blows me away!

    Sadly, sounds like the type of relationship promoted by Hollywood, and why movies generally end in the infatuation stage. I have seen someone like this - where they have a new relationship lined up before they exit their current relationship. The person I saw with this pattern, left a trail of badly damaged "loves" behind her.
    Has anyone else seen that narcissists are really into PDA (public displays of affection) - way past their teenage years?

    My daughter after walking out of my life for 11 years had me meet with her yesterday to check my mental temperature of what my role is for her wedding that she is planning in only four months. She told me that she didn’t want this large wedding but it is because of me she is spending 70k on a wedding to save our relationship. She said you are worth 70k. Then she told me pretty much how to act or I will be removed from events. She is judging me on her seeing me one time a year at my parents home but has nothing to do with me otherwise. She also proceeded to tell me she is starting a family immediately and she wants us to be able to sit in her living room one Christmas with her little one while watching her wedding video one day otherwise what will she tell little Cindy why we don’t talk. She isn’t even pregnant. She is such a control freak. Broke up with a guy because he didn’t buy her a house when it was basically on her to do list in life for that year. Well 9 months later she and her new boyfriend moved into a Million Dollar home. She wants “us” to start over right now because she expects me to be perfect by her wedding. I don’t even want to open up this door. I have only accepted we were not going to have a relationship for less than 2 years. I was finally happy and loving the people that want me in their life besides the “perfect “ family picture. After she vomited on me with her emotional trauma she said “well that’s all for today. Now that I know you will wear blue when I tell you I can now start my wedding plans. I am just staring into space telling myself she hasn’t changed. She is only panicking because she said she may decide to have a picture of me zipping her dress. I am literally a prop for her pretend world and everyone that knows me says she will dump me again right after the wedding. So now everything falls on my shoulders she dumped it all on me. I am not doing well. My husband is angry that I slipped back into sadness and crying. I honestly do not know the answer. All I heard for two hours about pictures and Christmas watching her wedding video. My soul what was left is almost dry. My faith is what I hold onto I am so broken all over again. My narcissistic father died this year and peace literally filled me and then this.

The love addiction that was aimed only toward you, is now aimed at any female around you. So the narcissist and love addict are intertwined in the same body, not two separate individuals.

    Hard to say, and this does sound like me. I'm very fast and intense into whatever I'm doing. It doesn't really matter what it is I'm doing. But I'm often alone. I love people, but I need more time with myself than with anyone else. So, this might not be me at the same time. I'm 100 percent into whatever it is I'm focused on that is. Emotions are in overdrive. I love strong, I learn strong, and I do it all and more without break. Well, until I burn out, which generally just means until I go to sleep. Right back at it once I'm awake. Anyway, if this is me, I am an addict, but also not. As this is something I can chose to turn off. It won't, however, turn off, unless I'm paying attention to the fact I'm doing it and also chose to shut it off.
    It's not narcistic for me. I score way too low to even think I'm narcissistic. I would need to have both an External Locus of control, a care for what other people are doing or thinking, and overall need to be judging both myself and other people; Which I don't. Selfish in a way I suppose, but my love for others has no bearing on them actually loving me back. I don't care if they do.
    Don't get this crossed. I care about people. Just don't need people. So, if it wasn't clear; That's why this might not be me. Also, my loving something or someone has no bearing on me actually being engaged or active with that something or someone. I love eating daifuku. It's my favorite food, but I rarely make it or eat it.
    Anyway, what I'm talking about is associated with a lot of people with ADHD; Which I have. Thing is, whilst these are traits of narcissism, they're not done for the reasons a narcissist would. My emotions are always authentic. They're just too much for many people. They're also too often confused for narcissism, as people hear about the behaviors and think they understand the people they're judging with the behaviors, and as such misjudging those with them.
    Suppose, boiling it down, it might not be for a very different reason. I know people I care about better than they often know themselves. Not just their minds and bodies. Their emotions. Why they do what they do. Even what they want when they don't know it themselves. Also, I'd freak out meeting someone with NPD. They wouldn't be able to read me. If correct about NPD anyway, they're not authentic enough for me to bother with. Again, I overdo everything. Meaning I understand whatever it is I'm doing very well. No need to bother with trust as such, as I know fast if someone is being real with me or not. To put this a simple way. I don't like people that tell me they do or did things I understand they couldn't have. As they simply lack the fundamental understandings of those claims they're making.
    Maybe. I'm still not certain I've ever met anyone with NPD. I'm also not certain I understand properly what's being said today.
