Oke so driven 3 cars and a VW transporter last year and can telle you there is no problem parking this car because of the sight. If you just park as you should you won't hit any car. The only thing making this car difficult to park is the big turn radius. It is almost as big as the turn radius of a VW transporter 5.

V60 would be the next step up.

I hear some owners of old R Volvos putting down the "R design" S60. But the modern car and out handle the old one and blow it off the road with 350 lb ft of torque. Not to mention the Polestar version.

    R-Design...not R-Line.

Also, the R-design isn't the top of the line.. Polestar much? ;)
AND, i have the pedestrian airbag on my MY 2014 v40

I agree with the rear view being very bad. I have a v50 and the main issue I would see in changing to this newer model is that rear visibility, both backwards and sideways. I wouldn't want the camera as it's very expensive and I'm a seasoned parker... having grown up in Rome... I refuse to spend that much in a not needed parking aid. I also don't like that the car is overall smaller than the v50... which was already a small station wagon. It's become sort of a hatchback, I don't picture being able to fit much luggage in the rear of this v40. I wish they had a replacement for the v50, as I'm really loving it (bought it 3 years ago semi/new).

777lucifero Thanks for your feedback! Indeed the next bigger one would be the V60 then for you, middle-class. Did you check our S60 sedan review?

***** That is actually correct, the closer version would be the v60, however it still shares the same type of rear as the v40. Everything else in the car I love, the engine performance is excellent compared to consumptions, and the quality and style of the interior is quite luxurious. If nothing big changes in the next couple years, my next car will probably be a v60 with a bit more spicy engine than the v50 I have now (1.6 d2). The only other small doubt I would have is the possible future bans on diesel cars in some cities in Europe... though perhaps Euro 6 might be exempt from that. Thank you for the meticulous and objective reviews!

Mr Reporter - if you need more Space in the boot - buy a truck. I have a Mercedes Benz B 180cdi 2014 model - and there is no place for a sparetire, which this V 40 has - if he took time to tell. All cars of these sices has not roomy boots.

+JohnyG29 in this range, the Golf will always be the car manufacturers aspire to. The focus is to young, pitty ford killed the escort and sierra. Golf will always be the benchmark for hatchbacks
