Thanks for the video! Funny thing: If you look your "weird throw" frame by frame, you see that your timing, footwork and powerpocket are still perfectly in sync. This just shows how really, really hard it is to throw with a false technique once you've learned the correct one. Keep 'em coming!
That's why it's a bad demonstration. It's not a weird throw because he still hits all of the lower body points despite adding extra movement. He's not actually eliminating any powerful elements of his throw despite that being the point of the demo.
This is really great. I stand still shot and am stuck at 200- occasional 300. The 90 degree part is what is really helping me now. Thank you for the great video
Thank you Gannon. Very clear and concise. I incorporated your teachings today and I noticed how much more effortless it felt. You're a great teacher and hope you win more championships on the Pro Tour!
Excellent video Gannon!. I am a long time disc golf promoter in Connecticut and I try to show beginners to learn the right way with the correct technique. That power pocket position in the backhand can really make new players get hooked on the game forever. Thank you again Gannon and may 2022 be your year to win some events on the pro tour. You have a great future ahead and your cool headed play will be one of the main reasons why you will be the next Paul Mcbeth. I am always rooting for you and I wish I could have you with me as I conduct disc golf demos here in southeastern CT. All My Best Gannon, Bill M.☺
I can't wait to see you out there killing it in my neck of the woods at the portland open in Oregon. Stay Burhly out there on the road and keep Givin it your best man!

Hey Gannon great video!! I met you in Waco and watched you throw at Cameron then at the beast. Thanks for the video and keep them coming this is fantastic!!
Link in the bio next time Gannon? Even searching your name and driving in YT never showed this vid result. Anyway, love this. It’s something I’m really struggling with so this helps. I’m muscling the pull through (not awful). Any tips on staying loose and noodly? Is it about letting go and letting your shoulders do the work? I feel like I’m thinking about too many things-reach out, pull in to the pocket tight, follow through, don’t try, but try, pour the coffee, stagger your plant foot at 90, commit, don’t swoop, reach down and away, blah blah. Should I just standstill until I get the snappy pocket going?
I think I'm doing what you do in the first example, with good footwork and timing but my arm and shoulders out of position. I feel like I throw fast, but still top off at about 350 but average between 300-320. You've definitely given me something to work on!
Thanks for sharing. I've been playing for 3 years now and just barely get 300'. It's discouraging seeing 11 year olds at league night throwing 50' past my drives. I'm keeping at it though. Need to do something for exercise. It might as well be disc golf!
@@DanielMinottoII I was playing a dubs round and one of the people on the other team we were carded with was a 14 year old Asian kid throwing no joke 450'+ CONSISTENTLY. I hit 362' a few weeks ago. I love it please come out with some more content about form. I thank you so really well at teaching form. I got it. I could feel the throw through you explaining what's going on in the throw
Love it. Would like to hear more about how you involve the rest of your body. Shoulder turn. Hip turn. Timing. Power pocket only goes so far if you are just "arming it."
Thx for great tip that 90 degree! I noticed that I had that in my forehand and I throw about 90 feet longer than backhand. After this video I felt more power coming from backhand! 😊
Subbed. Please more instructional videos. This is awesome. I've been following your progress for a little while now and it is awesome to watch you play, develop, and show success. Keep it up, man!
Would love a future video walking through the moments/queues from once you're into the power pocket to when you release the disc...this was great,, thank you!
Awesome stuff? o a question though, if you are not forcing with the arm, but simply bending, can't you add force in the arm together with the should power to get extra distance? Maybe this will make it harder to control. Thanks
Super helpful, thanks man. Really been trying to work on my backhand and the power pocket is definitely what I have been trying to focus on. Its a super strange feeling for me to leave my arm pretty relaxed but I can definitely tell a difference in distance and snap out of my hand, really getting that whip feeling.
@@ryanr9299 Hey man, not currently. My brother and I both work at a ski resort during the winter so we aren't able to play. Hell yea Gannon! Question: Do you feel that you “push off your cross (2nd to last step) step leading into the power pocket?” If the answer isn’t yes how would you describe what you do with that 2nd to last step leading into the power pocket?
@ezraaderhold Would you add anything to what he said or say anything differently? It's always nice to have different perspectives even if it's the same content.
@@EzraAderholdDG Fair enough. It would be cool to see a colab with the two of you (or anyone else repuatable) where you only discuss the differences in you form instead of the similarities, and discuss why you do them and what benifit you think it brings to you. Most videos compare similarities, which is great for finding a foundation to build form on, but hearing your perspective on the differences could be just as helpful. Especially when comparing very different forms (Ezra or/vs Gannon vs GG, vs Eagle.) I think that makes great youtube content for you guys that could be very popular and insightful to us. Great job on your first big tourney.. your going far, for sure.. i saw Emerson Keith's first tourney too.. it was great for a first run at pro... you were even closer... very cool.. great lesson too.. more please... looking for you to get a title soon...
Hey Gannon, we appreciate your videos and some tips. Let me suggest some things to make your video content stronger. 1). Record in landscape, not portrait. It was not easy to see the disc one it disappeared into the distance. 2) Consider using a microphone attached to your body. The wind makes it difficult to turn the volume up. We appreciate you and hope you continue to produce content for us.
Wow, today i literally felt that my throws werent going so far, even though i had a better feeling stance. Cool that today of all days youtube recommends me this video but anyways I guess it just was harder to get into that power pocket so i never got the best feel out of how i left my hand. Will update if i can fix this.
Subbed! Always glad to see another DG channel. Hoping to watch you on many lead cards this year. You seem exceptionally grounded given your age. That lovely young caddy of yours must be very proud! Very smart to start working on your personal brand early!
Gannon, would it be beneficial to just stay still and practice the shoulder turn, elbow bend, and whip? What would that look like with good upper body form?
Thanks for the best video! For the power pocket how high should it be on your chest? I tend to throw below my chest like very lower chest. I think that’s affecting power
I think the challenge for me is how do I make my body do that? I wish I could somehow sense what that whip / power pocket feels like so that I could do it more consistently
Amazing video, couple questions I have - how do you handle the transition between the power pocket with 2 90 degrees to the release? that transition last less than .1 sec, but its crucial part... do you lock your chest facing perpendicular to flight path and let it rip with smooth follow through?
Iv never heard anyone break it down by saying you pull threw with your shoulders and let your arm fallow explained in a simpler way than any other video and makes more sense
Does having a 3 finger powergrip lose you power compared to a 4 finger powergrip? I grip with my middle, ring and pinky finger and let my index finger rest on the edge of the disc. I feel like it helps me control the disc more than when I use 4 fingers
I switched to a 3 finger grip and not only found more power but control as well. I think it really depends on the person and preference, I'm no pro though.
This is such a great training video. No fluff.. No overcomplication.. No 17 steps.. Thank you Gannon.

Was about to say the same thing. Gannon's "terrible footwork" is still pretty darn good.
Basically 300 feet is his worst shot not trying
That's why it's a bad demonstration. It's not a weird throw because he still hits all of the lower body points despite adding extra movement. He's not actually eliminating any powerful elements of his throw despite that being the point of the demo.
I'm sure you can give us a much better demonstration of a poor throw.
