Darkness is a Masterpiece to me. Darren does a Great Job singing (Duh.. Rhonda) it and the song holds symbolic meaning to me. Darren is my All-time Favorite Singer and I Love all of his Music. He gives me awesome vibes from this song, even though it speaks to me, depression and feeling down. I believe the breaking up of Savage Garden is partially to blame and somewhere, he felt like he failed. Darren Hayes is not a failure, he's the Best in the Music Industry and I feel sorry for him by feeling bad of what Darren is going through. I would mostly help him if he needed it. Love ya Darren.❤❤❤

I know I'm late to this video but I hope this encouraged you to begin re-exploring his music and listening to more of his solo music. He is one of the very greatest ever.

He was in a dark place in life dealing with his divorce, self image, sexuality, anxiety, depression, etc. It is reflected in this album I notice it in the two song Darkness & Unlovable! Both are so heartbreaking and just really "real" songs. The entire album is so amazing. Favorite savage garden song is Hold Me. Favorite Darren Hayes song is Unlovable. It takes that "I want you" spoken rap and combines it with a pop chorus but maintains that electronic sound the Tension & The Spark has. It is also a very emotional song about relationships and depression and stuff.

Darkness is one of the most gorgeous songs that describe going through depression that it was really touched me so deeply. The video is filmed beautifully and in a very expressive way. I love everything Darren Hayes has done. From his days in Savage Garden and all his five solo albums. Each one has something different to offer. This album has a lot of personal stuff and I love how he turn all those emotions into musical art. I like how accurate you are with your analysis. Darren really makes you feel what he sings. I quite agree about the seeing through things during depression. Everything seems colourless. And, yes, you can adjust to being depressed. And that learnt behaviour can be so tough to escape from.

First time hearing this song. Not the last. Great reaction! Getting personal here, going through depression (and other stuff) myself, this song is basically how it feels and what you say is spot on. You just carry on until you just can't anymore, it's normalized. Destructive behavior is normalized. Everything is a blur but normalized. Only way up is through allowing oneself to hit rock bottom.

Something Darren says often when people ask him for the moody songs he asks them why they want him to feel pain? Why do they want him to be miserable? He really does write from the heart and you find he rarely plays the very very painful songs live. To go from as big as savage garden were to drop down as hard as he did as a solo artist, you can really understand where this song came from. My favourite Darren solo song is also very moody. I am not sure it has enough views for me to ask for (unfortunately most of his solo work is that way) but will try to get it in somewhere.

I follow you for quite a while but this was the "reaction" I disagree the most. As you use to say, on this particular one, I had no connection at all. The lyrics (and message) are strong indeed but the melody makes my mind goes back to some clear 80's influence that was poor to the point to find it boring.
