I was simultaneously both really disappointed and really appreciated the fact we didn't get to see into the rift it would be cool to get a glimpse of the higher realm but I like that they left it a mystery
@@codafett yeah mate I get what you mean but I think they will expand on it in future games rather than just never revisit it ,they've built up the higher plain in too many different parts of the series from athena in the OG games and fallen god to just abandon it
I think we are going to get a lot of insight on higher plane of existence in the upcoming games. I think that is going to be the main focus going ahead.
@@KaptainKuba Yes and its implied that the power or entity of that realm corrupted Athena and the thing that Odin see and heard in the Rift probably is the same thing. Athena is probably just a puppet of this power or entity. You can make a video where you can explain who will be the future villain ( Demiurge or something else) , based on information we know, because i think the mind behind Athena can be some other entity.
@@vincenzoaquino8299 My personal theory is that the athena in god of war 3 wasn't really Athena, but demiurge in the form of Athena. Kratos and Athena knew eachother well, so it would make sense demiurge tried to get what it wants by shapeshifting to her. Same way demiurge tried to get what it wants by appearing as infinite knowledge to someone who longs for infinite knowledge. It remained the best chance to get what it wants.
@@Unkn4wN_TM My theory is that Athena is a sort of herald of this entity, who order her to destroy o trapped the Hope, the only power who can fight this evil.
I think the main key point was that Ymir, the first being in Norse realm was murdered by Odin. Ymir being the first being of the Norse realms, likely had a deeper connection to the plane of Higher Existence. The crack in the realm was likely what remained of Ymir's connection to that plane. The mask and its fragments in different languages probably signified that the plane of Higher Existence is connected to all the different pantheons, along with Ymir who might have been the progenitor of not just the Norse pantheon but other Pantheons as well, probably known in other pantheons as a different name or entity.
Kuba, another BANGER. However, the interesting detail is that killing Ymir, a Creator God, was what led to the Rift being created. Maybe the Blades of Chaos, a Primordial weapon, can expand or create a Rift of it's own in the future? Blades of Chaos with Surtr's power + some Spark of the World magic, sounds like a good recipe to go back and kick Athena's butt! That would be sick!
@@AtelierGod Ymir created the first realms, and he was the first god. He was created from Gennungegopp (the primordial norse substance), so he was a Primordial God/creator god. i think you're arguing different ways to pronounce tomato tbh XD
@@omeramrani2274 we know too little to know for sure. All we know is Athena got there for a benevolent act but later turned a bit evil, so its probably not black and white.
Something I've been wondering lately is whether the Greek and Norse creation stories (as well as those of other lands) happen at the same time or if they happened separately from one another. If I recall, it's revealed in God of War: Ascension that the Greek world was created by the Primordials killing each other in a war, while the Norse world was crafted from Ymir's corpse by Odin after killing him. The God of War Wiki claims that Ymir (in addition to the Norns, Surtr, and Sinmara) are also Primordial beings in the Nine Realms. Whether or not Ymir & Co. are Primordials similar to Ouranos or Oceanos of Greece is, I feel, inconsequential-my main concern is whether the creation of the Nine Realms and Greece happened simultaneously because I've felt that for whatever reason the Nine Realms feel somewhat _younger_ than Greece. Not young enough that Kratos was around before the Nine Realms existed, but young enough that the Titans and Olympians would ultimately be an older pantheon than the Aesir or Vanir. I feel that it would be a bit weird from a lore perspective if that were the case, but from a real-world perspective, it would make sense given that the Norse mythology we know is much younger than the Greek mythology that's been handed down to us by the likes of Homer, Hesiod, and others. Another thought I've had is whether the mask, being wooden rather than metal or some harder material has any significance, including the language written on the mask that Odin needs Atreus to translate. Maybe it's connected to an even more ancient pantheon of deities, such as the theoretical one worshipped by the Proto-Indo-Europeans or another super ancient people group. None of this probably makes sense, but I'm throwing it out there anyway.
@@thefiveo344 Yeah, I said that. What I'm wondering is if the Primordials' war and Ymir's death happened at the same time or at different times, affecting how old each part of the world really is.
@@chansesturm7103 Norse could be older. The whole setting in GoW 4 and Ragnarok everything looks old and village-ish. Asgard looks quite classic while Olympus looks all fancy, advanced, hi tech magic stuff compared to Norse. Even Norse magic looks very old-like.
Personally, I like to believe that in the GOW mythos, on planet Earth there are rifts in between the different pantheons, and these invisible rifts originate from the higher plane of existence (which is where the demiurge is contained by the Monac). These rifts act as sort of mythological containers and separators. Each rift hold the unique geography, creation myths, spiritualities, magics and pantheons of each mythology. (This could also be why the rules of the Norse pantheon might not affect Kratos or Atreus). { Pleroma > higher plane > rift > physical universe (earth) } When people expand in the name of their gods, they also expand the rift (and therefore influence and territory) of their specific mythology. This is why wars are fought between cultures, because each pantheon is trying to gain more territory and worshipers over other pantheons (this would be the demiurge influencing the physical world). But most gods of these different pantheons are ignoring the possibility of peace, diplomacy and cultural exchange. This could allow all of them to grow simultaneously and achieve enlightenment. This is could be why the Monac is collecting worthy gods who show selflessness and are sending them to the higher plane. However, some gods in the higher plane fall to the influence of the demiurge. (because of their new found power) like Athena. The higher plane of existence acts as a further test to see if the chosen gods are worthy of entering pleroma when the time is right.
Maybe Athena was inviting Odin to find a way to ascend to the higher plane of existence? Maybe she was testing him but also she expects him to fail in the end despite all his efforts.
I love that Freyr ascending to the higher existence is just mentioned as a passing note. I am just trying to imagine him interacting with the other ascended gods or trying to get high while there and it is just a mess that puts a smile on my face.
Imagine if kratos saw the rift in detail and instantly connected the dots. He didnt see the rift properly or at all. I feel like that wouldve been enough evidence to get a good idea what it is
He was standing right by it when Atreus snapped the mask. He and Odin were both talking to Atreus about using the mask the moment before he snapped the mask
@@rhombo323 kratos was more focused on his son at the moment and the dust from the ground above collapsing was still dust in the air so it's hard to see. That's why I said he didnt see it properly at the very least just a faint glow.
@Greed God are you saying he'd connect the color of the rift with how Athena looked to him at the fall of Olympus HUNDREDS of years prior? Even if he was able to recall how she appeared in his nightmare in GoW 4, I think there's simply too little information for him to make that connection. Something much more overt has to happen, more than likely whatever sends him to the next pantheon of gods. Whatever that is would most likely be sporting that same color and then the rule of three kicks in and he'll begin to make his connections. If he's somehow able to keep Mimir with him, which I think may be possible while he'll definitely be forced to separate from Freya whenever he's sent to the next plane of existence.
@@rhombo323 that was a projection in atreus mind, remember the promise they made of hearing their voice in vad situations. Notice how when the camera moves and how kratos disappear after saying "I trust you son".
Faye pulled kratos into the light in the last game and showed him what atreus said right before they burned her. She was there. We were Faye the whole game and that's why kratos breaks the fourth wall and talk to the camera before baldur punches him over the house. Also, I think Odin was putting something in the food while he was cooking as Tyr. Brok calls it dirt soup, but mimir says there is something special about the food and he can't stop thinking about it. I think there was magic and it didn't work on brok because he was missing a soul piece
I mean what possible answer were people expecting the tear to provide? I really like that they kept it a mystery and as said Kratos said: "beware shortcuts to knowledge"
I think it’s truly better to keep it for later It fullfilled it’s rôle in this game by driving Odin and being a representation of Odin’s thirst for knowledge It can have another role later
Interesting theory! This would also mean the Jotnar are descendants of Monad which could explain them being able to have visions and them essentially being the originators of magic in the Norse realm…
I feel that the mask will play a significant role in the future games and may also play a part in how the next game switches pantheon. I know that in 2018 kratos meeting athena was just in his head but i guess we all know that athena is still alive and maybe plotting something. We saw all the way back in god of war 3 the mural of athena who was all green and was the new queen of olympus, which means she is still alive somehwere. The mask could 100% be planted by her or be related to her, but i guess we just have to wait for the next game.
Deep into that darkness peering, long Atreus stood there wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no god ever dared to dream before; But the Thor was broken, and the Odin gave no token, And the only word there spoken was the whispered word, “God of War?” This I whispered, and an echo murmured back the word, “To Egypt you must soar!”- Merely this and nothing more.
Thanks for delivering King! With Ragnarök being the last of the Norse saga, we’ll definitely be focusing on the higher plane of existence in the next game, Kratos realizing the main problem is the gods above the gods
Dude, if this theory is actually true, that would mean that the Greek and Norse games were just a start for a much deeper story behind GOW, it also explains how all mythologies exist in one universe and could also explain why seemingly important characters like Thor, Freyr and Odin got such lame ends to their story, could be that we didn't see the last of them and some of them will join our forces while others will fight against us in the biggest avengers-endgame-like battle for all of reality between Kratos with his Norse friends and Demiurge with Zeus and Odin reincarnations on his side
I think the reason the Demiurge would want more power is because he only has control over the physical realms. But at the same time he lacks the higher forms of knowledge of his parents. So it would only make sense it would try to find pieces that give it power comparable to its creators. And if we go with the idea that he got the mask, then the Demiurge is now one step closer to its ultimate goal, probably giving it Omniscience. Great vid by the way!
@@VenomtheOne Odin Said he Heard truths he couldn't understand, what If Atreus looked in there and actually understood It? Odin would be in major disadventage, especially considering he was planning to betray him
We may not be able to see the full picture yet but man, as soon as I saw the rift I yelled “THE HIGHER PLAIN OF EXISTENCE” and was so happy thanks to your theories I just hope it doesn’t take us 20 more years to see the full in depth of this story to unfold 😅 but at the same time, I don’t want them to rush anything
I would love this because evil Athena in gow 3 seemed put of nowhere. If it was actually an evil entity in disguise as the wise Athena, I’d feel as if the story was more thought out
I always have this in mind that whatever Mimir laced to make Odin high that made him gouge his eye out started all of this nonsense - just like Freyr accidentally found Alfheim's light while high and become a god among Dark and Light Elves alike.
The rift and mask give me some serious lovecraftian vibes! I personally hope this leads to kratos fighting the lovecraftian pantheon! Seriously how awesome would it be to see kratos fighting Cthulhu or azatoth!
That would require actual work and development. SMS has become extremely lazy and self entited after the 2018 game and the rushed garbage that was ragnarok proved it. The lone last good studio also caving to making a quick buck.
@@peeturpain9379 I’ll agree that GOW 2018 was more enjoyable but in no way does this mean SMS put in no actual work. Bad writing does not mean mean less work was put into the game. It sounded so weird when Cory said he is not going to direct the Gow Ragnarok. what if the '' space game '' he is working on now is related to this topic? We know that Cory really loves Gow, why would he not direct the game he loves? His next project must be something bigger than Gow Ragnarok
Idk if there is a connection but seeing that mask made me think of the movie the mask, and in the movie, the mask gave the wearer the ability to basically shape reality at will
I think Athena is behind the whole thing and I think she's actually using Kratos to bring down each pantheon or mythology and she teased Odin because she knows he craves knowledge and to know if there's another place after his fate in ragnorok
My Theory is this: Odin knew that the Rift led to the Higher Plane of Existance and was his chance of living forever. This is a long one. Ymir was a being from the higher plane of existance where Athena was sent to and what is mentioned in the Fallen God comic. The Higher plane of existance was accessible to Ymir and he was able to travel between the Norse Realms and the Higher plane of existance using the mask and the small rift was a large portal hidden away. When Odin killed Ymir the mask was broken up and scattered into the worlds that were already built by Ymir which were Niflheim, Muspelheim and what I believe to be the original Foundations of Asgard before Oden created the realm we see in the game, this is because the prior realms seem to be at the root of the world tree and Asgard is at the top, it may be possible that Asgard was where Ymir went to travel from. When Odin initially looks inside he can hear what it says as he has a bit of the mask but is unable to see it through the rift or go through it as he doesn't have the full mask which acts like a key. However he is unable to translate the text in order to locate the rest of the mask due to not understanding the language, which is where the Giants and Jotunheim comes in. I believe that because they were direct descendants of Ymir they are using magic and abilities directly tied to the higher plane. This is why Odin is so focused on the Giants secrets and why he needs Atreus to translate the mask. Once the final fight takes place next to the rift we see Odin is genuinely excited for once and is happy, the mask is assembled and his answers are so close, everything he's been working towards is coming ahead. I believe when he asks Atreus use it and look he genuinely means it. So when Atreus destroys the mask he yells in agony because the one thing in life he's been working for has been destroyed, he cuts all the act and is just mad. Odin never really expands on what he heard. He just says he believes it has all of the answers they are looking for. In reality I think Odin knew exactly what was beyond the rift, he knew the higher plane was there, he knew he could essentially live forever there and be somewhat Omnipotent. That's why he hordes knowledge, kills the giants as they kept it away and that's why he's obsessed with stopping Ragnarok, because he knows the one thing that can kill him can be avoided by the rift under his home. He lies to everyone because if he told anyone what he knows they'd either not believe him like Mimir or he thinks they would want it for themselves and stop him. Now why would he know about it? I believe Ymir told him about it and he killed Ymir in order to take his place there however was unable to without that certain power of Ymir. He was afriad to tell anyone else about it properly which is why he lies as he thinks they'd try and kill him and take it just like he did Ymir. His whole Godhood is him mimicking what he thinks the Higher Plan and Ymir did to the realms. He makes man, he makes them Valhalla, he makes his own pantheon because he essentially believes that the Higher Plane is that but on a grandious scale and he just wants to be apart of it. What do you guys think?
@@domleereacts7374 Norse Gods aren't immortal, it is insinuated throughout the game that Njord died of old age rather than being killed. This is also the case with Odin's brothers. However it is stated that when Aesir gods die in battle they go to Valhalla, however Odin can't go there since he created it.
Would be aweomse and it would be nice that the Demiurge or who ever it ends up being was the one responsible for corrupting/manipulating Zeus and Odin behind the scenes so he can rule over the whole existence/pantheons. So Kratos/Atreus over the fallowing games travel to other realms to gather people and free the lands while slowly while the games slowly reveal the true puppet master behind these corrupt gods.
Epic theory! I remember reading about a little bit of the demiurge in some old mythology books my grandparents had. Crazy how everything is connected 😌
I'm curious about the strange creature with the unending container of alchohol that was mentioned in the Vanaheim Crater. I haven't seen anybody talking about it. I feel like it was a hint towards a Japanese/Shinto series of games next, because the strange creature sounds like it might be Danzaburou.
The Mask, as in, the glowing green mask from the movie and cartoon with Jim Carrey - reference the Mask as an artifact of Loki. Hence the shapeshifting. So that doesn't get us anywhere.
I can imagine us thinking we wont ever see the higher plane, but then in what we think is the last game with kratos, he dies only to wake up there. And then athena says "we've been waiting for you" - cut to black, roll credits. Then we find out there's one last game
I think it's going to be something touched more on in the future, like how Thor and Odin were constantly named dropped and Ragnarok constantly being hinted at in GoW 2018. It's setting up Atreus' journey to find the giants in other lands/mythologies and finding answers
my theory is that it holds the truth to creation of the norse pantheon and creation of niflheim and musphulheim and how they came into existence and with this knowledge odin would become omnipotent and the a true god who can do anything he wills and maniplulate fate and creation.
This would actually be sick to see for gow 6. Even though everyone expects Kratos to go to Egypt Santa Monica have had a knack for subverting expectations.
Hello Kuba, the writings on the mask are Greek and ... Chinese!! In addition Monad derives from Monada which in Greek translates to Unit. As in the self as a unit! Hope this helps
Im chinese and the writings in the mask is actually japanese though it has kanji (chinese characters that the japanese use) in it. It can also mean that china might also exist in gow universe.
Also in chinese mythology we have the term 仙 (Xian), which means celestial beings, beings that has transcended beyond godhood which also fits the current state of athena
I made posts about this two days after the game released. At first everyone called it stupid, or impossible. That it doesn't fit the timeline ect. It's nice to see ideas being explored.
I heard a theory that the mask was from the Mayans because the Mayans did have masks like that plus there have been hints of Kratos going to the Mayan pantheon so it would kinda fit
I think the mask was Odin's last ditch attempt. Think about it: Baldur wasn't supposed to die for at least a few hundred years. Odin was desperate to avert his destiny whatever it took. He was not prepared. His last option was pretty much to somehow get that mask and see the answers to his questions. Things are escalating too quickly and he cannot control it all anymore. Mask was all that could save him now.
Once I finished the game and started thinking about the rift and Ymir and what the mask could be my mind also went to Gnosticism so I’m inclined to think you’re on the right track
I have an alternate theory as to the GOW 3 Athena. She wasn't actually Athena, but the evils she contained taking her form as an imprint. So while in fallen god she is actually in the higher plane and thus god of war 3 Athena wasn't technically lying, the imprinted evils gradually gave away their hand more and more. Especially at the end, when the imprint decides she wants to go full dictator and lacks the true Domain of Wisdom to get her to shut up and go the subtle route.
My theory about the future of GOW is that Atreus and Kratos split for now (obviously) and Atreus most likely head to the celtic lands (Ireland, maybe?) because there is a mention of creatures that once used to be giants aren't at the moment, but can transform to their large forms momentarily, known as Spriggans. Also the sighting of the kelpie, and the lady of the forge could support that. And maybe Kratos head to Japan? I dunno, because my gut says since egypt was in the comics, it's the place where the story might culminate lead to the higher plane of existence? Gotta dooo a loooooot more research on these topics, and see what comes up to be most likely!
It would be nice if kratos heads to the egyptian pantheon and has multiple games in there, while atreus heads to the lesser known pantheons as a means to explore but ends up having to deal with the gods there. I just have it in my head that lesser known pantheons have weaker gods because since they arent knows, that means that their influence never spread which means less worshipers. Less worshipers means less power. Each pantheon atreus visits would only have 1 game but most of the budget would be for kratos. The end of the series would have kratos join with Atreus and they would have good gods vs bad gods, just like Kuba said. Kratos has 2 games in the egyptian pantheon while atreus visits 2 pantheons. It'll take maybe 6 years to set up the big finale, then 6 years for the finale itself UNLESS santa monica gets a boost in resources and employees
Well, Atreus and Kratos split so we can explore the other pantheons and then eventually come back together for one final one. I think that's what we'll get. Atreus will go to one pantheon, likely the celtic lands like you said, and Kratos will go to either Egypt or Japan. And the last one remaining, will be the one they come back together in.
Other channels: Who blew the horn? Why is Tyr doing those weird poses? Kuba: COME MY CHILD! WE MUST ASCEND TO THE HIGHER PLANE OF EXISTANCE! IT IS ONLY THEN, THAT WE WILL FIND THE TRUTH AT LAST! Nah, but in all seriousness, i never bought into this theory, until now. Now it's starting to look like an actual story arc that makes a lot of sense, instead of bits and pieces of the theory here and there and no context around what the higher plane of existance even is. Now i'm actually intrigued. I really hope that this is what santa monica is planning and the final god of war game will go down similar to endgame with the demiurge as the big antagonist all leading up to a satisfying final conclusion. Can't wait to see what santa monica has in store for next. I'm kinda hoping for a Loki spin off game first tho. I feel like they have to go there at some point now that Kratos and Atreus are going their separate ways for now.
A better segue into exploring the other pantheons would have been to have each piece of the Mask hidden one in Norse one in the Greek mythology which we'd have to travel back to and so on and so forth and then a final installment of the God of War series we go to the higher plane of existence
I've recently had an interest in Gnosticism and you provide a VERY good explanation, better than a lot of what I've seen. Great job taking such a complex idea and explaining it so well man, wow!
This theory is based on the tiny amounts of information the series gave us, so it’s highly unlikely to be correct. However I wish it was because this sounds amazing
The words on the mask have writings from multiple different earth cultures from the time, including greece. It glows at the same color as athena I like to believe that athena made the mask, using garm to bring it to the 9 realms. Odin knew he would die and athena told him putting the mask on atreus would keep atreus from taking him out, killing kratos instead. This is what he meant when the rift spoke to him when he peaked inside. Only by changing fate did atreus avoid this fate , which odin was set on happening, this being what keeps kratos from being killed. Hense why he was determined to have atreus put on the mask for his "answers" which he heard as tyr, and even trylied convincing him as tyr to use the mask.
I would say the Demiurge lost again because the plot of these devices is to imperialism a order in which gods have heirarchy of these taboos and each time they are relinquished back to the unknown. I hope we get a God of War beyond the Pantheons into the Betwixt twilight omega of it all… so I can beat Zeus and Odin a second time cuz their boss fights was lackluster tbh
Hey I completely agree. I always said if the colors match it’s from the same source and it’s mad crazy that we saw Zeus in hel and everyone trumped it up to be the tricks of hel but what if it wasn’t and he was his Spector from that higher plain just watching him
For most games I can have tons of theories and fan fiction but God Of War is the one series I really can't do anything like that so im always impressed by other's theories and enjoy them greatly
I think the next game could be based around this rift once again. Mainly because of Sinmara and Sindri. Sinmara lost Surtr and Sindri lost Brok. Both of them would have been devastated. So it could be a chase of finding this rift, gaining all knowledge and bringing them back
Honestly I think there is gonna be an Atreus side game that focuses on the Giants that are in Greek/Roman mythology And those evils from Pandora’s box that changed the gods Could’ve change the giants too And made them evil Atreus would be put into a position where he has to be allied with the left over deities that survived gow3 Like Apollo Artemis Aphrodite Morpheus And honestly I have a secret suspicion that Aphrodite had a child by Kratos and groomed him into hating his father Bring a side conflict with Atreus where he has to fight a brother he didn’t know he had And it can turn into some Cain and Abel type of story Where Atreus is forced to kill his own brother And we as the player get the closure of the aftermath of gow3 Greek world And funny side-note During Eric Williams interviews he talks about how the dev team wanted to give him and sword but he ultimately said no and made them do bow melee combat only And how wild it would be that the sword he ends up with getting in this side game is the blade of Olympus
I uploaded a video theorizing the same exact thing 12 days ago, where I literally say the exact same things. What made you give in to this theory, Kaptain Kuba?
I thought we might get the choices like telltale games, to whether put on the mask or not.If you see the exact scene Odin would say "put on he mask Loki" whereas Kratos would say "its your choice son" like I really thought they gona give us the option to whether put on the mask like "press BOX"option popping to left of Atreus pointing towards Kratos to destroy the mask cause its the right thing to do🤷♂ and "press O" to the right of Atreus pointing towards ODIN makes Atreus wear the mask 😱😈 and each option would give us a sequence of events and eventually we can see what's inside the rift.I was so into it cause if you look at that scene again the way they point /show Atreus, I thought something big about to go down...but Santa monica said no ( another story for another day) Its more like the horn blown in the first game which made many people curious what the next game holds but it was never answered in the second game either (like everyone wanted to but no one made a big deal about it) since Cory himself stated its an answer for another day and I think people are curious about the rift and the mask too,but people are not talking about it as they used to talk about the HORN cause it might be answered in the next game or after that but one thing for sure ,I'm 100% sure the moment Santa Monica reveals what inside the rift ,people are gona lose their mind.
This got WAY too deep but, isn't athena's color different in gow4? What if they never really cared about her color in the first place? Also athena is inconsistent. She PULLED the blade of olympus out of kratos in gow3 (making her physical and visible to [assuming] ANYONE) Yet in gow4 mimir never saw (or even heard) her. I truly believe she's just in kratos' head. As for the rift? They can craft billions of stories _around_ it. I don't believe it is connected to the past (greek) games in anyway. Just a question builder for the next director and writer for the next game, i believe. The next writer can come in and literally make ANYTHING out of the rift. There are literally infinite amount of stuff that can be made out of the rift.
Mimir doesn't see Athena for me because with the power of the Higher Existence, she can made projection visibile only by Kratos and on God of War 3, she can choose to become solid or cross things.
2:17 The Greek part of the mask in from middle to left reads as following: “Επί της φλεγόμενης γής” (Epi tis phlegomenis gis) “οψιανού“ (opsianou) “σπινθήρα“ (spinthira) Translation: “Upon the burning land” “Obsidian” “Spark” (Just as Atreus read, but Atreus read “opsidiani spitha” instead of spinthira) Atreus’ version was correct. The writing is either wrong or in ancient grammar (cannot confirm if it is right or wrong). If anyone can find the textures for the mask and display it sideways where more Greek is written I could perhaps find out if there’s a hidden clue or if the mask writings are just decoration made by google translate.
Will be interesting to see how they expand upon this in future games. Its is higher place of existence or realm. Even if Odin got the knowledge of the rift its would still would be not enough
This was a great video and a very fun theory! I never really understood Athena’s motives in the original trilogy, her actions flip flopped all over the place from game to game and while I don’t think this is where SMS is headed it’s still fun to think about!
I personally always thought Atreus breaking the mask is a BAD move. Like, if I were one of the people who got sacrificed by Odin and saw this... I would be really pissed off as it means my death led to nothing in the end ! Like Odin said, "WHAT IS IT ALL FOR !? YOU CHOOSE TO BE *NOTHING* !?". Like seriously, people keep saying that it's good Atreus breaked the mask, I want to ask... WHAT MAKES Y'ALL MFS THINK THAT PUTTING THE MASK ON IS BAD !? Odin just wanted answers, and I TOO want answers. At least that means the people Odin sacrificed didn't die in vain !
Odin was pretty sure whoever wore the mask would be killed and that’s why he wanted Atreus to do it. I’m guessing if he would’ve escaped sindris house with the mask, he would’ve made one of the enhiljar wear it I found it interesting that when we visited the Norns, you could hear the same whispering that comes out of the rift
This is a really fun and creative theory: it allows for each mythology's existence to fit neatly with each other (something so far GoW hasn't done a great job of showing, what with Greece and the North having completely different cosmic beginnings/primordials), explains why Athena shifted so dramatically, and gives the setting the opportunity to touch upon Christianity in a tactful way--because let's be honest, we all want to see how God of War might depict the western world's most influential religion. Who knows, maybe GoW was always just Shin Megami Tensei!
Did you know that Christianity is also a whole different pantheon altogether composed of many gods but was converted into monotheistic religion after their wars. The Christianity pantheon is composed of the following gods : El Elyon El Deah El Chuwl El Olam El Roi El Shaddai Elohim Attiyq Youm Asherah Yahweh Christ Baal
@@humanbass it needs to be. Odin saw into the Rift after killing Ymir when he was a young god. That means that the Rift has existed since Ymir's death and before the creation of the nine realms.
The most probably situation is that the power or entity that corrupted Athena has corrupted Odin. After Odin, time later wit Athena death , she corrupted her when she ascended and gave her new form and powers.
If Athena is Demiurge in GOW 3 then is that why when you fell into hell in the opening and had to have your blades remade by her they where called the Blades of Exile? Because Demiurge was cast out by Monad aka exiled?
This is not a theory and I don’t know if someone answered this already, but when Atreus goes with Thrud to Helheim the mask is reacting to something behind Garm, but when we free Garm the mask doesn’t react at all. So… ¿what was the mask reacting to? If she only reacts to another missing part of itself and the rift. Or is it just another plot hole?
I think it has to do with how the realms are made up. It was explained by Freya that the realms share the same physical space and are layered on top of each other. So I think the mask was atracted to the broken piece in the same space but not correct realm.
Now that 2 mythological kings of gods are dead, that plot of another pantheon trying to fill the power vacuum starts to seem most likely. If a more bloodthirsty god tries to conquer everything left behind, it will trigger an apocalyptic event which will require Kratos and everyone to step in and stop this from happening.
My only question is why was Atreus the only one capable of wielding and activating the mask almost as if he’s chosen for it, even Odin says it’s his destiny. Cos the game makes it seem like Odin never seen the mask light up before Atreus, so whats his role and connection to the rift/mask besides being able to read the languages.
And it makes sense feels right for Odin to be serving a higher nefarious entity who has checkmated odons nature and wit without Odin knowing it (this is what Odin does -- a cosmic irony). And that loki is once again the cost of movement catalyst of change making and disruption. Very cool
@@KaptainKuba ok so if strength alone is the only thing you need them why couldn't kratos wield it? it's weird because when kratos tries to wield it he struggles but he swings the hammer around with the blades of chaos just fine.. so does this mean that Thor is physically stronger than kratos? god I love thor

The maya maybe?
Ymir is a primordial being no? So his death created the lands in the Norse. Primordial battle in Ascension was what made the Greece area I assume.
@@thefiveo344 Yeah, I said that. What I'm wondering is if the Primordials' war and Ymir's death happened at the same time or at different times, affecting how old each part of the world really is.
@@chansesturm7103 I guess it happened either same or separate times until they’re gone and then after the whole wars the gods are the ones left.
{ Pleroma > higher plane > rift > physical universe (earth) }
When people expand in the name of their gods, they also expand the rift (and therefore influence and territory) of their specific mythology.

No, we did see the last of them lol Odin got his soul destroyed like brok, meaning he ia gone for good
I think the reason the Demiurge would want more power is because he only has control over the physical realms.

Could not have explained this better, Myself. Nice job & the background noise is hypnotic AF.
I actually really like this idea. I hope they go in this direction.
It glows at the same color as athena
I like to believe that athena made the mask, using garm to bring it to the 9 realms.
I always said if the colors match it’s from the same source and it’s mad crazy that we saw Zeus in hel and everyone trumped it up to be the tricks of hel but what if it wasn’t and he was his Spector from that higher plain just watching him
This reminded me of your old theories I love it.
For most games I can have tons of theories and fan fiction but God Of War is the one series I really can't do anything like that so im always impressed by other's theories and enjoy them greatly
I'd love to see freyr in the higher plain finally getting to be a muse
I think the next game could be based around this rift once again. Mainly because of Sinmara and Sindri. Sinmara lost Surtr and Sindri lost Brok. Both of them would have been devastated. So it could be a chase of finding this rift, gaining all knowledge and bringing them back
I just want a theory video on why a god (Odin) has a receeding hairline
Honestly I think there is gonna be an Atreus side game that focuses on the Giants that are in Greek/Roman mythology
And those evils from Pandora’s box that changed the gods
Could’ve change the giants too
And made them evil
Atreus would be put into a position where he has to be allied with the left over deities that survived gow3
Like Apollo
Artemis
Aphrodite
Morpheus
And honestly I have a secret suspicion that Aphrodite had a child by Kratos and groomed him into hating his father
Bring a side conflict with Atreus where he has to fight a brother he didn’t know he had
And it can turn into some Cain and Abel type of story
Where Atreus is forced to kill his own brother
And we as the player get the closure of the aftermath of gow3 Greek world
And funny side-note
During Eric Williams interviews he talks about how the dev team wanted to give him and sword but he ultimately said no and made them do bow melee combat only
And how wild it would be that the sword he ends up with getting in this side game is the blade of Olympus
Im surprised no one's brought up the Mask movie with Jim Carrey. That wooden mask he has is considered Loki's mask
Hey a Greek Gods vs Norse Gods Tournament Video would be Dope ( I know Olympus Wipes the Floor with Asgard ) But still it would be Fun.
I uploaded a video theorizing the same exact thing 12 days ago, where I literally say the exact same things. What made you give in to this theory, Kaptain Kuba?
I was thinking it sounded familiar 😮
I thought we might get the choices like telltale games,
to whether put on the mask or not.If you see the exact scene
Odin would say "put on he mask Loki"
whereas Kratos would say "its your choice son"
like I really thought they gona give us the option to whether put on the mask
like "press BOX"option popping to left of Atreus pointing towards Kratos
to destroy the mask cause its the right thing to do🤷♂
and "press O" to the right of Atreus pointing towards ODIN makes Atreus wear the mask 😱😈
and each option would give us a sequence of events and eventually we
can see what's inside the rift.I was so into it cause if you look at that scene again the way they point /show Atreus, I thought something big about to go down...but Santa monica said no ( another story for another day)
Its more like the horn blown in the first game which made many people curious what the next game holds but it was never answered in the second game either (like everyone wanted to but no one made a big deal about it) since Cory himself stated its an answer for another day and I think people are curious about the rift and the mask too,but people are not talking about it as they used to talk about the HORN cause it might be answered in the next game or after that but one thing for sure ,I'm 100% sure the moment Santa Monica reveals what inside the rift ,people are gona lose their mind.
This got WAY too deep but, isn't athena's color different in gow4? What if they never really cared about her color in the first place?
Also athena is inconsistent. She PULLED the blade of olympus out of kratos in gow3 (making her physical and visible to [assuming] ANYONE)
Yet in gow4 mimir never saw (or even heard) her.
Whether this theory is correct or not, doesn't matter for me now. It's really an amazing theory, I enjoyed it, Kuba.
Man your theories are just incredible at this point they need to hire you as their writer
2:17 The Greek part of the mask in from middle to left reads as following:
“Επί της φλεγόμενης γής” (Epi tis phlegomenis gis)
“οψιανού“ (opsianou)
“σπινθήρα“ (spinthira)
Translation:
“Upon the burning land”
“Obsidian”
“Spark”
(Just as Atreus read, but Atreus read “opsidiani spitha” instead of spinthira) Atreus’ version was correct. The writing is either wrong or in ancient grammar (cannot confirm if it is right or wrong).
If anyone can find the textures for the mask and display it sideways where more Greek is written I could perhaps find out if there’s a hidden clue or if the mask writings are just decoration made by google translate.
These theory’s are the best 🔥🔥🔥
athena is for sure related to that mask specially with that green magic
Definitely enjoyed this .
Will be interesting to see how they expand upon this in future games. Its is higher place of existence or realm. Even if Odin got the knowledge of the rift its would still would be not enough
Odin saw Stanley Ipkiss on the other side of the rift.
I’m guessing if he would’ve escaped sindris house with the mask, he would’ve made one of the enhiljar wear it
I found it interesting that when we visited the Norns, you could hear the same whispering that comes out of the rift
The Christianity pantheon is composed of the following gods :
El Elyon
El Deah
El Chuwl
El Olam
El Roi
El Shaddai
Elohim
Attiyq Youm
Asherah
Yahweh
Christ
Baal

Say what?
Tremendous theory and what you mention that Atreus could collapse by approaching the crack using the mask would have been epic!
I definitely think the rift has something to do with the higher plane of existence, and maybe The person who odin said whispered to him was Athena 😮
Odin is older than Athena
@@covrigstudio9076 Higher Existence can mean a place with no space and time, at all times and spaces.
@@covrigstudio9076 but the rift doesnt need to be older than Athena. GoW 3 were more than a hundred years ago before 2018
@@humanbass it needs to be. Odin saw into the Rift after killing Ymir when he was a young god. That means that the Rift has existed since Ymir's death and before the creation of the nine realms.
The most probably situation is that the power or entity that corrupted Athena has corrupted Odin. After Odin, time later wit Athena death , she corrupted her when she ascended and gave her new form and powers.
that theory is sooooooo good!! like actually it makes a lot of sense
If Athena is Demiurge in GOW 3 then is that why when you fell into hell in the opening and had to have your blades remade by her they where called the Blades of Exile? Because Demiurge was cast out by Monad aka exiled?
Wow
This is not a theory and I don’t know if someone answered this already, but when Atreus goes with Thrud to Helheim the mask is reacting to something behind Garm, but when we free Garm the mask doesn’t react at all. So… ¿what was the mask reacting to?
If she only reacts to another missing part of itself and the rift. Or is it just another plot hole?
I think it has to do with how the realms are made up. It was explained by Freya that the realms share the same physical space and are layered on top of each other.
So I think the mask was atracted to the broken piece in the same space but not correct realm.
I really like the idea that everything comes back to Athena or whatever weird force of nature seems to be the afterlife for gods.
Ymir might ascended to "Higher Plain of Existence" as riff existed after Ymir killed by Odin.
Ahaha i love the jab you throwed at the end towards Ragnarok pointing out again the disappointment it was story wise.
I'm wondering how you are not in SMS writing team 😂 , but I think if any game took you as a writer to their game's story , this game will be great !
awwww thank your kind words but Im not a professional writer lol not even an amateur 😂
Very cool
would be fun to explain who could lift Thor's hammer and the requirements to wield it
I don't think there's any requirement like in the MCU in Gow you just gotta be physically strong to pick it up
@@KaptainKuba ok so if strength alone is the only thing you need them why couldn't kratos wield it? it's weird because when kratos tries to wield it he struggles but he swings the hammer around with the blades of chaos just fine.. so does this mean that Thor is physically stronger than kratos? god I love thor
There is a quote that says that " the blows Thor dealt to kratos were as heavy as any he had felt before "
This powerscales Thor to be as strong as Zeus or more strong. Pretty insane.
@@ragnazebrudedge6236 I would hope Thor is as strong as Zeus because they're both god of the sky/thunder and they both have insane music that plays as you fight them and as a matter of fact as I'm typing this right now I have my god of war 3 remastered paused just before I get to fight Zeus lmaoooooooo 😛
@@Squishy246 Kratos didn't struggle to wield it.. Im Norse myth when the hammer is thrown it is supposed to be basically unstoppable.. And Kratos damn near stopped it when Thor threw it at him.. That just shows how strong Kratos is. That on top of the fact that both Odin and Thrud pick it up no problem. Kratos could absolutely pick it up if he wanted to.
