After reading more of the comments, keep in mind this is a entry level gun and is a work horse . It's tried and true and for two grand you can't find a better gun for the money. My silver pigeon has over 200,000 rounds under its belt and was just serviced by beretta for $150.00. New locking lugs, firing pins, and springs. What more could you ask for from a gun at 2 grand.
Was waiting for someone to say it - you do not buy one because it’s beautiful. You buy it because it shoots well enough and is hard as nails. Cheap to run, holds good value and reliable as any. Not a fan of some of the aesthetic changes but we will all have forgotten them soon enough.
Well said Frank, my SP1 sporting is 3 years old now with around 30 - 35k rounds. I shoot clays at least once a week most of the time 2x week. My gun has worked hard for me and I've yet to do anything to the gun other than replace a ejector spring I lost while cleaning it. Went from never shooting clays, to A- class skeet shooter, and working twords master class in sporting all with my Siver Pigeon. Many of my fellow shooters keep asking why I haven't upgraded my gun yet. I can't bring myself to retiring it, just works for me. I keep looking at a DT-11 L but I just keep dragging my SP to the clay field week after week.
The Gun Shop hi I have the Silver Pigeon 1 Sporting 12 Gauge in 30” Barrel (Old Version) and I always wanted to buy the 20 Gauge in Silver Pigeon so today I placed an order and paid 30% deposit on Silver Pigeon 1 (New aversión) Field 20 Gauge 30” barrel and I feel very disappointed to be honest. I feel like calling the dealer tomorrow to stop the order and ask to change the order to the old version but I’m so confused and I’m lost and not sure what to do Please advise me what to do I don’t wanna end up with a lesser quality gun But the new version has the Optima Choke HP and not on the older Field model Your advice is much appreciated
I bought a SP1 yesterday, I drove over 200 miles to the only shop with one in stock, didn't want to buy without seeing it, Its a vast improvement over the Remington 1100 Trap I've been shooting since '97, personally I'd like an all black receiver., but the engraving is fine for me. Cant wait for Sunday to bust it out
The sporter with the adjustable comb shoots brilliantly, might be down to fit and I agree about the engraving but it certainly gets the job done especially for the price
At the beginning of this video, I thought I was going to be disappointed in my recent purchase. However after watching, I'm glad I purchased (2018 model) a Silver Pigeon when I did.
I’m surprised that no one talks about the barrels. You get the Steelium ones with Optima HP chokes that are found on the more expensive 692 for almost half the cost. That’s it’s biggest upgrade.
Andreas Patsalos hi I have the Silver Pigeon 1 Sporting 12 Gauge in 30” Barrel (Old Version) and I always wanted to buy the 20 Gauge in Silver Pigeon so today I placed an order and paid 30% deposit on Silver Pigeon 1 (New aversión) Field 20 Gauge 30” barrel and I feel very disappointed to be honest. Sam G , Please do not get disappointed. I wish all our worst problems would be only around a choice of a new shotgun🙂. If it fits you correctly and is the gun you always wanted then you should be happy! Beretta makes good barrels.
Not long just got one a 30'' field, comparing a 2016 and the update 2019 I much prefer the update with its satin finish and laser engraving the more I look at it the more I like it, luckily I found a nice darker stocked one for £1500, dark wood satin action Steelium optima HP barrels and i'm very happy with it.
Looking back to buying my first o/u; I went to my local ground/shop all geared up to buy a new SP 1 but came away with a second hand 525 hunter prestige for only slightly more money. Those in the know might say they're an equally boring choice really but one is at least infinitely more interesting to look at than the other. I'd be inclined to give the second hand shelf a look every time before looking at something like this. It certainly worked out for me.

Excellent presentation. I bought my Silver Pigeon 1 about three years ago and it looks a lot better than the one you demonstrated. The finish on mine looks better than the new model. I don't know what Beretta was thinking about when they came out with the 2019 model. If something works well, leave it alone.
I'm definitely with you on the forend. I do not like schnabels on them, and I prefer longer barrels of 30-32 inches which will tilt the balance even further forward..... Still, it is a pretty sharp looking gun even with the fairly plain wood, and it will take a lot of shooting and last a long time doing it before a rebuild is necessary.
Didn't mention that they doubled the length of the forcing cones and that the barrels are steelium which is only found in their mid to high end guns. Which were ever offered in the 680 series .
How long is the forcing cones in the present field model, cant find this anywhere? The new one seems to have 80mm and i think this is the way to go in the future. As i understand it should give more even and constant patterns and softer recoil but how big of a difference does this have in a real world in the woods? And chokes, are multichokes going to be history?
The Gun Shop but not the on the field in the old version this new version has them on the field version which is not on the old if you know what I mean
I just bought a 2019 686 sporting 30”. It’s my first over under. I went to a local sporting clays grounds and rented a browning and beretta and the beretta both fit better and seemed to be of better quality in construction and attention to detail. I personally don’t understand the notion that “no one buys a beretta 686 because they’re beautiful.” Meanwhile their top of the range models seem to offer nothing more than plain actions and nicer wood for 3-4x the price. I realize there’s more to one of those guns than that, but ultimately the 686 is a beautiful gun in my opinion. More beautiful even than the majority of the higher end guns not counting the custom stuff of course.
I concur, it’s a very beautiful gun and I love the more simplistic look of the wood grain on a 686 SP1. I can’t imagine using anything else in the field these days, in hot Arizona deserts while dove hunting. …except maybe my 687 SP3 12ga, or maybe my 687 EELL 12 ga. All joking aside, the SP1’s wood grade is dynamite “as-is” in my opinion.
An entry level gun with that "Beretta" name on it that simply oozes reliability and is at home in a pigeon hide, a walked up day or a posh driven shoot. No wonder it's at the top of the sales charts. I bought mine new in 2007 (it's a 2006 manufactured gun) and is an "S" model. It's shot game and clays every year since then and even deputised on a goose shooting trip when the semi-auto needed work. It really does it all with aplomb. I really didn't realise until I checked how old it actually is. It's never let me down, it still looks smart, a bit of work on the wood where it was wearing away slightly is all it's needed in it's life. Now I really didn't know it was that old. Maybe it's about time I should be treating myself. But if I do, the Pigeon will stay!
After 1 month using my SP1. I m veeery happy with the gun. Only cons i found : a little bit front heavy but it can be fix easily and the stock grip is a little bit short for me. Can be fixed also but you need to add a piece o wood on the stock
Here in the states we don't have the beaver tale forend option for the new Silver pigeon...just the schnabel version...bummer..and we don't have the browning 525 either...double bummer...great job on the channel dude...u get better and better...cheers
I just bought a Silver Pigeon1 sporter and it looks different 30" barrels vented between barrels balancing great at the hinge pin and the wood grain is gotten vertical grain running all over When out side it's not a bad look to it. And has a wonderful mount coming up to my shoulder to shoot.
Just found a pair of 2018 models on clearance at the local shop. I was able to get one of them but wish I could afford both after seeing this, if for nothing else than the looks. I believe the old forend has a lot more personality and a cheap accessory box will not make me buy a new version.
No wonder my local gun store was trying to shift it's silver pigeons in stock. I was after a field gun and ended leaving with a Lincoln vogue on deal. I am pleased I did, It was £800 cheaper and it does not shoot that bad at all. My clay gun is a 692 which I bought new 3 years ago. The new pricing structure is ridiculous, £1600 for a basic/poor wood gun mass produced gun. The older guns are much nicer 687 sp3
Well Jon, here’s my take on the silver pigeon, I own an sp sporter which I bought new earlier this year which I absolutely love, I also bought a silver pigeon 687 v which is a 97 model(97 on the barrels) and the engraving on the older gun is much nicer and a lot more of it, I’m thinking more time and effort was put into the older guns as my pal also has an older 687s which has beautiful engraving too,I m thinking that they are making the new ones (although they are still lovely’s) and Less unique.
I like the engraving I'm looking to buy one in the next month or so. Only think I feel it could do with it the betetta logo in gold maybe. If I get one is this something I could get customized somewhere.
so i found out that the song playing in the very beginning is " im coming for ya" by latoya hills….. but then it changes within the first seconds to an instrumental Version of that song. i found the guitar to be much better played than the original, does anyone know who did this Version????
Just bought one and it feels mint in the hand can’t wait to use it, I don’t care about the engraving doesn’t make the gun shoot any better but the forend does👍👍👌👌
I do like the box for all of the spare parts and goodies!! It does look cheap though. I’ll stick with my Browning 725 which I’ve grown to like. Waiting on the Fabarm Elos N2 or Elos Allsport, Which will most likely be my next purchase for my son, not a new Beretta SP. Great honest review as always. 👍🏼👍🏼
Great vid, thank you, I finally learned what was in my beretta silver pigeon. I was wondering how to ease the cocking springs when you break the gun? My is very hard to crack
umm think I would stick with the old? As you say from the view on the Vlog, it looks a bit Shallow. More like a Henna Tattoo than a real one engraving depth wise??
I never understood the low quality wood on the silver pigeon I, their much lower priced auto loaders have very nice wood on them. Most of the stocks on the 686 look like pressed cardboard. Then on the onyx models the wood is some of the best there is.?? I would like to see a 686 with little to no engraving and higher quality wood. But that’s just my opinion. (Great review).

Think I`ll stick with my 2017 Sporter which is perfectly balanced especially now I have fitted ext chokes. Is there much involved in altering the fore end and does it look natural Great review as usual
What do you think of the basic Berettas compared to other Italian makes like Fausti, FAIR, etc? They seen to offer more attractive guns at a given price point. The Beretta is so severely plain.
Borrow a Lincoln and see how you get on. They shoot just as good and they are half the price, I was blinded by the marketing my self and bought a 692. It is a great good but it's not 3k difference between my Lincoln
I know this video is about the silver pigeon I, but I keep asking why the silver pigeon II went away? Quality? Too costly to make? I call Beretta t o ask the question and I get nothing!
Could you please explain the common traits of a field gun to me? With a sporter i understand the developments. Chunky pistol grips with parm swells. Adjustable combs for a more open shooting style. Wide tapered ribs for a better sight plane. To mention a few. With a field I don't understand everything. More open grips like a "Prince of Wales"- I assume this is more for aesthetics? Narrow unventilated ribs? Is this just appearance again? I understand the solid heal plate is for ease of mount as well as aesthetics. Fixed chokes over multi? The rounded "American forend" over a schnable or beaver tail? I own and love my field gun. I just wondered if there were benefits to the styling or is it purely aesthetics? Much appreciated.
I own a Franchi Instinct SL with a Prince of Wales grip. The semi-spherical bottom part of the Prince of Wales grip feels much more comfortable in the hand when it is carried in the woods.
The wood isn't anything to write home about either is it ? I remember when any Beretta was something special, this gun looks very average and a bit plain.
I am waiting to collect my first Silver pigeon after part exchanging my Lanber over under. The stock has been replaced and i have had the barrels re-blacked which i thought would make the gun good as new - however im now having doubts that the gun was abused by the previous owner. I paid 685 cash plus my Lanber... have i been shafted?
Suited Moto you’ll not be disappointed as they are just a pleasure to hold and shoot, when I was paying up my sp sporter I happened to be in another shop which had a mint condition second hand one same as mine and as soon as I held it I fell in love with it all over again and knew I had made the right choice , cheers dan
How high would you rate updating the barrels to Steelium optima HP in a field specific gun(in my case)? Are they so superior to the old ones with 50mm multichokes also considering the lengthening of forcing cones from X? to 80mm (do you know the exact lenght)? I have understood that it´s a bit harder to find good shels the to old ones for good patterns. I´m thinking of getting some 75mm Briley chokes to narrow this gap to OCHP. Thank´s for the great videos!
Kind of confused here. Is the sporting with the Schnabel or without? Also does a sporter have the ventilated rail? The images of the 686 SP1 on Berettas website seem to be not updated.
I have the “field” model 20ga as of Feb 2024. It has a Schnabel foregrip and the website correctly shows this feature. I don’t know what he had in the video.
I kind of feel beretta are going down the quantity over quality in my opinion! I genuinely believe your getting more for your money buying a browning now
Alex Kim yeah they are that’s why I’ve always shot beretta’s! But it really annoys me how the 690 black is a clay gun and doesn’t have the adjustable trigger! You have to spend another £1000 for the 692 yet browning gives adjustable triggers on all their sporters
Just picked up a 687 EL classic 12G silver pigeon with the black action and gold birds fixed choke never had a cartridge through it,it has the wood butt pad £1400 was it a bargain and can I put a rubber Beretta buttpad on it Johnny?
I would prefer to have an unengraved gun and save a few $100 on the msrp. The barrels and action are good. As long as it works and moves well I could care less about tarting up a price point firearm.
Not a Barreta fan since my 686 field, they have a long way to go with low end Shotguns to compete with Miroku/Browning. Looks like a cheaper gun with cheaper workmanship! The Miroku Mk 60 Field you had on earlier is much better gun for my money !
I went to buy a new Beretta 28 gauge last week !! Imagine my disappointment to find out that it was not steel proofed !!! Nobody in their right mind would buy a new gun if it's not steel proofed in today's climate !! I tried a Browning and guess what, yep not steel proofed !! What is going on with the 28 bore ?????????
Strange isn’t it. Not many production 28 bore HP steel shells out there yet. I know of one gunmaker who steel proves 28’s but they aren’t at production prices
If I’m not mistaken, most of the low to midrange shotguns actually have rolled or etched designs, both of which are faster to implement than laser engraving.
I had (still have) a defective silver pigeon 20 ga ..fails to fire the second barrel about 1/3 of the time... the company representative would not even discuss further repair or replacement after an alleged repair effort that was not successful ...and doubt it was even halfway attempted.......never would have imagined the rudeness of the Beretta representative....I'll never buy another...never. I've dealt in firearms for some 40 plus years here in middle Tennessee and northern Alabama with many different firearm makers who were more than willing to do what was necessary ...to make that rare repair or replacement....but not Beretta..not them...acted as if they were too good to help........I still get angry thinking about the way I was treated...the gun is practically unsaleable and in fact, is too dangerous to use .....buyer beware of this company if you ever encounter an issue.
Beretta not repairing a defective or “dangerous” gun as you called it? Beretta is so worried about liability, that your story sounds a bit preposterous. I’ve had nothing but excellent service from Beretta in the past. When I had an issue with a locking block on one of their handgun models, Beretta paid for shipping in both directions and fixed the gun for FREE, when it had been out of warranty for 4 years.
Looks boring - not a gun I think anyone would aspire to owning. For similar money l'd rather have a yildiz pro , or a 525 laminate for not much more money
You are comparing Yildiz to Bretta? I have seen Yildiz pro at a sporting store picked it up, it looked amazing and felt super light. I'm not a big fan of Turkish shotguns but are they that good?
Never been that fussed on engraving myself. The wood to metal finish on this example is quite shoddy on the stock to action on the left hand side. If I were in a gunshop I would ask for another and another till it looked right. This example looks like a Friday afternoon gun just before clock-off and QC have gone early. Shame as I was thinking of picking one up. Looking at the wood the ATA's are looking better for a 1/3 of the price. I say that as I am looking for a second gun for my son when we go clay shooting. But Ah Well there are probably better looking examples out there...
After reading more of the comments, keep in mind this is a entry level gun and is a work horse . It's tried and true and for two grand you can't find a better gun for the money. Me too Ben! Bought mine a month ago !
I’m surprised that no one talks about the barrels. You get the Steelium ones with Optima HP chokes that are found on the more expensive 692 for almost half the cost. That’s it’s biggest upgrade.
Exactly, that's a very nice change.
For a field gun I personally would prefer standard 18.4 mobil choke barrels.

Sam G , Please do not get disappointed. I wish all our worst problems would be only around a choice of a new shotgun🙂. If it fits you correctly and is the gun you always wanted then you should be happy! Beretta makes good barrels.
So glad I bought mine last year, prefer the engraving on my gun compared to the new one and actually prefer the schnabel forend to the rounded style
The engraving looks decidedly cheap. It looks like something I'd expect on a Turkish gun costing much less.
Check out my review of Dickinson's new gun. Made in Turkey. Better wood. Better engraving. Better everything.
Watched your video, bought a 686 20ga Sporter and I love it. It trap, skeet, doves, pheasants that I use to miss. Great balance and smooth swing.

I was going to buy a new silver pigeon sporter, but couldnt wait , so I bought myself a lovely beretta 691 sporting .
Hmm.. it looks 1/2 the price to manufacture of the previous..
Best thing about the new model SP is the old models are being reduced in price. Just got the “old” SP 1 20 for $1700! ( It was 2K before)

They should give buyers an option to chose different hand guards and stock/ pistol grip shapes.
Nice video,,But we never see you do anything on Baretta SP1 28 gauges,,they're nice little guns & you should a show for the little magic gun,,
Great vid, thank you, I finally learned what was in my beretta silver pigeon.
Pretty unexciting gun. Terrific, honest review as always!
hi I have the Silver Pigeon 1 Sporting 12 Gauge in 30” Barrel (Old Version) and I always wanted to buy the 20 Gauge in Silver Pigeon so today I placed an order and paid 30% deposit on Silver Pigeon 1 (New aversión) Field 20 Gauge 30” barrel and I feel very disappointed to be honest. I feel like calling the dealer tomorrow to stop the order and ask to change the order to the old version but I’m so confused and I’m lost and not sure what to do
Please advise me what to do
I don’t wanna end up with a lesser quality gun
But the new version has the Optima Choke HP and not on the older Field model
Your advice is much appreciated
Just bought mine today😄
Think I`ll stick with my 2017 Sporter which is perfectly balanced especially now I have fitted ext chokes. Is there much involved in altering the fore end and does it look natural Great review as usual
What is the prices
What do you think of the basic Berettas compared to other Italian makes like Fausti, FAIR, etc? They seen to offer more attractive guns at a given price point. The Beretta is so severely plain.
Borrow a Lincoln and see how you get on. They shoot just as good and they are half the price, I was blinded by the marketing my self and bought a 692. It is a great good but it's not 3k difference between my Lincoln
@@marinorossi4594 Isn’t “Lincoln” actually made by FAIR?
Yes it is made by FAIR
After watching this (excellent) video, I am glad I bought the 'older' SP1
I bought the pre 2019 model after seeing this too the new engraving is crap
I still love my old one !!!. Just Invested in a 690 Sporter black edition could you Do a review on that one please ? Keep the great work boys 👍
Darell Kettley search the play list they did a 690 black last year
petyt8 cheers 👍
petyt8 found it thanks 👍
Which is a better shotgun for a novice? Beretta Silver Pigeon 1 (12 gauge) or a Beretta 694?
Awesome, this is the first look at this gun online!
Does it still depend on the person behind the gun to hit things? Must do...
Was heavily debating buying this gun before watching. Now will probably end up with a Browning Citori
I kind of feel beretta are going down the quantity over quality in my opinion! I genuinely believe your getting more for your money buying a browning now
petyt8 browning feels too bulky.
Alex Kim yeah they are that’s why I’ve always shot beretta’s! But it really annoys me how the 690 black is a clay gun and doesn’t have the adjustable trigger! You have to spend another £1000 for the 692 yet browning gives adjustable triggers on all their sporters
petyt8 I agree with you. I think for entry gun its good to get sp1. No need to go for 692. And once things get serious, skip to perazzi mx8.
petyt8 but yes. Beretta handles much better than browning imo. Ive shot 725 citori few times and it felt clunky and unwieldy.
Caesar guerini tempio, whether beretta silver pigeon hunter.?
Just picked up a 687 EL classic 12G silver pigeon with the black action and gold birds fixed choke never had a cartridge through it,it has the wood butt pad £1400 was it a bargain and can I put a rubber Beretta buttpad on it Johnny?
Would you say the wood to metal fit is the same as previous Silver Pigeon?
Can we see the Sporting version? I see it comes in Left handed cast?
I would prefer to have an unengraved gun and save a few $100 on the msrp. The barrels and action are good. As long as it works and moves well I could care less about tarting up a price point firearm.
I like the engaging work. Do they shoot well? Better or worse than a Browning 725 Trap?
I just want to know what are the default chokes in cal. 20?
Hi do all the silver pigeon models come with a hard case thanks
prince of wales grip, please...
Thanks again for your videos
Got one for years now, shoot it every week, great gun !
Any plan to do a review on the sporting version?
Nice Video nice work !! can you please make a video about the beretta Ultralight thank you
Not a Barreta fan since my 686 field, they have a long way to go with low end Shotguns to compete with Miroku/Browning. Looks like a cheaper gun with cheaper workmanship! The Miroku Mk 60 Field you had on earlier is much better gun for my money !
How to mount the sling holders???
I cannot find the 686 without the schnabel front. Can anyone point me to one?
28 "barrel weight how many kg?
I have the same one in 20 gauge
Honest review. Thanks
It’s disgusting that for 2k you get a cheap piece of wood.
How does it shoot?
Did I miss the msrp?
Nice gun
I'll stick with my 686 onyx
I went to buy a new Beretta 28 gauge last week !! Imagine my disappointment to find out that it was not steel proofed !!! Nobody in their right mind would buy a new gun if it's not steel proofed in today's climate !! I tried a Browning and guess what, yep not steel proofed !! What is going on with the 28 bore ?????????
Strange isn’t it. Not many production 28 bore HP steel shells out there yet.
I know of one gunmaker who steel proves 28’s but they aren’t at production prices
As of today (Feb 2024), all 686 and 687 models in all calibers are steel proofed.
Wood to metal fit is important enough to me that I wouldn't even pick that gun up.
wholeNwon What a tragic loss to the gun world.
So basically its exactly the same as the old one, just more expensive
It's the exact same price in the stores I looked at.
Price??
Does it have auto ejectors?
Yes
wow...makers are now downgrading machine engraving....
What is cost
great!
Steel shott?
Yes steel shot approved and in all calibers.
I have this gun and would like to use 000 buckshot in it. Is it possible?
It is fine to put 000 through these
The Gun Shop Thank you so much for the quick response. I really enjoy your channel. Please keep up the good work!
And how is beau
It looks like laser engraving and that might explain the more matte finish since its easier to laser engrave a surface that doesnt reflect light.
Almost all shotguns with engraving are laser engraved ...
If I’m not mistaken, most of the low to midrange shotguns actually have rolled or etched designs, both of which are faster to implement than laser engraving.
looks cheaper then the previous model
Definitely needs the 692 treatment for balance.

😍

Germans have a word verschlimbeesrung. An improvement that makes things worse.
You mean "Verschlimmerung"?
gone off berettas gone on to miroku got the mk60 grade5 and the mk38 grade5 teauge sporter
Had a silver pigeon got rid of it wasn't worth the money bought lamber best gun for haf of the price
Nice gun but looks kind of cheaply made for a Beretta 👍👍👍
Who here have this one
Are u all right Johny it’s me Archie btw
Looks boring - not a gun I think anyone would aspire to owning. For similar money l'd rather have a yildiz pro , or a 525 laminate for not much more money
You are comparing Yildiz to Bretta? I have seen Yildiz pro at a sporting store picked it up, it looked amazing and felt super light. I'm not a big fan of Turkish shotguns but are they that good?
Yildiz vs Beretta is like Toyota Prius vs Mercedes Benz
Never been that fussed on engraving myself. The wood to metal finish on this example is quite shoddy on the stock to action on the left hand side. If I were in a gunshop I would ask for another and another till it looked right. This example looks like a Friday afternoon gun just before clock-off and QC have gone early. Shame as I was thinking of picking one up. Looking at the wood the ATA's are looking better for a 1/3 of the price. I say that as I am looking for a second gun for my son when we go clay shooting. But Ah Well there are probably better looking examples out there...
