I always find your videos to be very interesting and informative. Largely due to your seemingly fond appreciation for this particular shotgun, I recently purchased my own Silver Pigeon 1. I find your videos on cleaning and care far more interesting than reading owner’s manuals. Keep up the great work, sir.
Wayne ...after 3 years I came upon your comment on my you tube channel...i try to answer every comment ...but some how yours got through...thank you for watching...hope you are well and happy shooting !!!
I bought a Berretta SP1 Sporter second hand (no manual) so that process of barrel selector on 1/ snap-cap fire/ then switching the barrel selector to 2/snap-cap fire.. has saved me from slapping the rear stock to inertia switch the barrels 👌 Thankyou for the tip!
Great video, thank you. I just hold a nickel firmly against each firing pin to release the pressure. It’s soft enough to dent similar to a primer and this saves the assembly/disassembly steps.
Thank you. This is exactly the information i was searching for. I inherited a Beretta S686 Special from my late father and have no idea how to store it properly. I have never used nor been taught the use and care of it. However, he did mention about releasing spring tension before storage long time ago, now i know how. He used to dry fire it though not very often as it is almost never used.

Thank you sir for this excellent video, it answered several questions about the Silver Pigeon that I had. Especially how to decock the hammers. It is never a good idea to leave any spring under constant pressure for long periods of time. I'm getting a new Silver Pigeon in about two weeks and I can't wait! Once again thanks for the very informative video about this fine shotgun.
I’m new to Over and Unders and your video helps a lot for my 691. I was concerned how stiff my fore end was. Are there any other tips on how to put on the fore end without damaging the wood? How to maintain and lubricate?
I think I have watched all of your videos now. Some several times. Just got a Beretta Silver Pigeon sport III ; 2007 build year. Perfect. Looks factory new. 30 inch barrels. So pleased. Love your comments. Keep them coming. PS , I may get an adjustable stock from the dealer. They do excellent woodwork. My gun shoots low to flat. At 22 yards 60 to 70 percent of pattern was below dead center. My instructor says to keep shooting for a few months, re shoot the pattern board and then decide. Thoughts?
I installed snap caps in my 686 but cannot get the lever to reset when closing the barrel, nor will the barrel lock in place; but no problems with spent hulls. Will check with my local skeet range gunsmith to see if I can resolve the issue.
Very good video, thank you Roger. On my new 686 I have to depress the release lever pin with the very end of my finger nail to make sure it's pushed far enough into the hole to release the lever tension while, as you pointed out, holding the lever hard to the right. It's a natural pointer and I love it for sporting clays.
+albert reese Albert you will love the gun...and it's so reliable...it never misses a beat...and at major shoots beretta will be there and you can get the gun serviced free of charge for the life of the gun..... enjoy shooting it and best wishes...Roger

I clean, reassemble, use snap caps to pull both triggers, then store, assembled in my safe. Cheers. Still looking forward to my first 25 on trap and skeet. Seems like the manual implies that it should be disassembled after use? I like to store my shotguns in a locked safe so that is where I store them. Roger, great video. I have a question, you mention putting it in the box for storage but you handled it quite a bit. Will it cause any corrosion after handling with your bare hands? I was taught to wipe down and oil all metal and then not to touch it when putting it away.
Jason...you make a good point...but if you often rub it with an oily cloth then you shouldn't have any problems...metals these days have come a long way...shotgun barrels used to get pitted...but now with cleaner powders and chromed barrels ...it's not a problem any more...good to hear from you!!!
Thanks for your videos Roger they're very useful. I'm new to shooting and looking for a used Beretta silver pigeon in the UK and came across your channel searching reviews. Do you ever buy used guns or always new? Any videos on helpful general tips for people getting started in shooting and things you wish you'd been told before or in hindsight not wasted your time or money on? Thanks
Andrew...good to hear from you ...my guns have always been new...used berettas still command a high price so i buy new ...then you know what the gun has been through...my first gun was a silver pigeon i traded it in because it did not have an adjustable stock...that would have to be the most crucial thing on a shotgun ...because then we can adjust it to shoot where we look...stay well!
Hi Roger, great video! Is it ok to disassemble the gun after taking your last shots instead of using snap caps? Wouldn't that accomplish the same thing as long as you don't recock or is it dangerous disassemble without first ejecting the spent cartridges. Thanks for your help!
It would not be dangerous to disassemble the gun with the spent cartridges still in the gun...however as soon as you have finished shooting ...the range rules are that you cannot walk off without the gun being opened...and as soon as you open the gun it recocks ...thats why we put in the snap caps ...fire the two barrels and then dismantle the gun.
George...it's fine to leave it assembled as long as it's in a dry place and metal wiped down with a slightly oily rag...much appreciated...stay well and happy shooting !!!
Hello Roger! Great information! I am new to O/U and I have a question to ask. Is it normal for the trigger to wiggle a little bit from left to right? thank you very much The shotgun is new, may be shot 100 rounds so far and just noticed it
Hi Roger, I noticed, that the video is probably cut about 0:51'-0:52' time, when you assemble the gun. Its about the ejectors - when you first assemble the ejectors are out, and just a second after they are in. I have the same problem, after the gun is disassembled and the ejectors are out, it's not easy to put the barrels in - you need to press them to do it. Can you explain that? Regards
Rafal...good to hear from you...when i assemble the gun I always turn the lever to get the locking lugs out of the way....as you close the gun the ejectors start to push in...try opening the lever and see if that makes it easier to assemble...stay well!
Rafal...I now understand what you were asking because my 690 does exactly what you were saying...sometimes the ejectors come out a bit further than normal and you can't assemble the gun without pushing the ejectors in...you were spot on!
Tony...I have heard that the rubber O rings can wear out...I've had mine for 6 months and so far so good...I shoot about 150 rounds per week and so far no problems...the good thing is that the beretta people attend major shoots and you can get the O rings replaced free of charge...I like the gun...stay well!
Hello Roger (amazing videos) I have a quick question. on my silver pigeon I'm having difficulty getting the lever to come back to the center. I press the lever first and push the firing pin down. But the lever just will not go back in the center. Is there something that I'm doing wrong? any advice is appreciated, stay well Roger.
On the silver pigeon the normal position of the lever is between the 5 and the 6 on a clock...after dismantling the gun the lever is to the right ...next to the top firing pin there is a little button that you push while holding the lever to the right.... push down hard on this button and then with your thumb guide the lever back to its resting position...I hope i've understood your question...if not let me know...stay well...Roger

Thank you!!
You're welcome! Stay well and happy shooting !!!
