@@scotthardesty I just hopped on my Aventure 1 and chose update firmware and it was most recent and its still 28 max. What firmware number were you using?
@@timthrash2145 Seems like the Aventure 1's are stuck at 28mph (just like Mike Rochester showed us). but I was able to get to to 32mph on my A2. Firmware Version 1.7.1
Scott i have an original aventure. Max speed was 32-33 mph. . About 1 year in all of a sudden max was 28. I contacted aventon 2 seperate times to see if they changed it and they played dumb both times saying it never was 32 and has always been 28. Went on various forums and many people have said speed changed for them as well. Amazing aventon wont acknowledge the fact it was once 32
It obviously was 32mph since we had proof, but you know they have to legally cover their hide. We definitely do NOT want them suffering or going out of business due to state law legal requirements!
My LEVEL.2 allowed me to go 32 MPH when I first got it. It said 32 MPH when maxing out its speed in the app and during a ride, it did in fact hit around 31-32 MPH before the motor started reducing power and finally cutting out. At some point over the next few months, the app's maximum speed seemed to have changed to 28 MPH without the ability to go any higher. Unfortunately, from that point on the bike's motor has in fact been cutting out at around 28 MPH.
I have it in an email that officially says they did it after experiencing this issue also. I've restored my Aventure 1 back to original settings. Set @ 51kmph...…..Hit 54kmph!
@@darith27it was 32 mph its not the state requirement it's just that at 32 mph it was draining your battery way too fast that's why aventon had to fine tune it back to 28mph I still don't know how this guy is still able to hit 32 mph could it be that he's in Illinois & I'm in canada, different region different requirements I'm not sure but I heard the aventure 1 is still hitting 32 mph
*Update!* I got my Sinch 2s that I ordered. We've had bad weather since they arrived. Today, Jan. 22 2024, was finally a chance to try them out. I was curious whether the bikes would come from Aventon programed to go 25 mph. The answer was no. 20 mph tops. But I went into the app, paired with my Sinch 2, and the adjusted the top speed to 25 (max). And....25 mph! Fantastic! Thanks Scott!
I think my main concern on this would be that if their app can unlock it. What is the stop the app from lowering it and relocking it if regulations come in to play. Believe me they will be coming into play.
That's what they did with the Aventure 1. As you saw, when Mike logged into his Aventure one it was at 32mph. Then it jumped to 28mph. I can tell you this. I will not be connecting my A2 to the app anymore as I don't want it dropping down in speed. If somone has the A1 and it does 32mph, DO NOT connect to the app.
@@scotthardesty this is great advice! And it won’t stop them from lowering it from 28 either. My friend just bought the A2 and now that he bumped it up to 28, I’ll advise him to disconnect from the app. Unfortunately for me, I was misinformed about the abound (that’s what I bought) and was told by the seller I can unlock it. Tried today and I can’t go any higher than 20! So this model won’t work to raise it.
I have the Aventure 1 are my bike did go down from 32 mph to 28 after hooking it to my phone. I’m now in the process of putting a K\T 35amp upgrade on it right now.
Great video! Nothing makes Aventon customers more salty than seeing the top speed in the app change. The toxicity in social media comments section alone is enough reason to avoid Aventon sadly.
@@scotthardesty I think they represent an incredible value, but one of the most important aspects of e-biking for me has been taking part in the community. But when the community is filled with venom it's hard to love it.
@@stephenstetler3324 I understand that. Unfortunately, there are more negative people online complaining than there are those who are happy with the product.
That's the great thing about social media...we have the power to BLOCK those whiners and complainers. There's still plenty of speed available, and I still love all my Aventon bikes. You will be missing out since there's no longer any issues with the speed caps. You can even hit 22mph if you keep pressing throttle repeatedly on certain models. They have THE BEST customer service period and I can attest to that!
Hey Scott, I got my Aventure (the original version) in September 2021. I've got over 4300 miles on it and from Day #1 it consistently gets up to 32-33 mph every time I pedal it in PAS5 and Gear 8 on our local flat paved trail. Haven't touched the setup screen since the day I first bought it and paired the app to my bike.
@@scotthardesty If you pair your Aventure to the app, it will automatically downgrade your op speed to 28 mph, now. Aventon irritatingly flashes your controller now to reduce the top speed to 28. Who owns the bike anyway? You or them?
Pace 350.2 will unlock to 25mph currently, however, like the Solterra it will struggle to actually get up there. Both bikes are using 350w motors, and they seem to be tuned to put out most of their torque between 5-18mph on flat ground - at either end, it feels close to stalling.
Hi Scott! I have a Level Step-Through with a cadence sensor, it does not have the color display. It'll do 32mph when using PAS 5. A while ago, I thought about buying the color display but then I heard about Aventon downgrading the top speed through the connected app so I decided against it. Plus, others said that it is hard to read in the sun. I bought a 9 speed 11-32t cassette today that I am going install to help combat ghost pedaling in PAS 5. I don't really have too much ghost pedaling issues with the 8 speed cassette, I can keep up in most scenarios. I could slow down my rotation speed though, increase top speed and be more comfortable so I am looking forward to getting that tomorrow. I'm slowly working my way backwards in your video catalog in the evenings, I really enjoyed seeing someone address this because I saw people talking about it on social media.
I would definitely keep the older display at this point if I was you. I can agree that I am able to see the black and white displays better in the sun than the color displays for sure.
Scott what a great video. I like how changes and updates can be made with the app. But yeah, taking away some top speed when they already had it is not cool.
Just bought the Commuter Level 2. App allowed me to go to 28. The "throttle" alone will only take me to 20, but if I let up off the throttle and pedal hard, it will assist me up to 30 on flat ground.
Congrats on your Level 2! I love its weight and found a local bike shop who would service it if i got it through him. I know the Wired Freedom is touted a lot on the internet but its weight and tire size makes it seem like a pain to Load/unload. I fly drones so I wanna get even further sites to launch from thats away from my car. the higher the speed above 25 mph the happier I'll be but 35mph plus is kinda overkill, but fun (still over kill) since its not safe on pedestrian paths, but great for bike lanes on the road.
I have owned the Original Aventure, and now the A2. I did notice the top speed difference between the two bikes, but contributed this (wrongly) to the new torque sensor. My A2 only goes 28 mph, unless going downhill. I have always used the Aventon app to record my rides, but it has gotten very glitchy lately. Do you have a suggestion for an alternate app for recording rides, etc? Also, I've ordered two Sinch 2s that will be sent to my local bike shop, arriving tomorrow. How do I know if they are preset to the 25 mph speed limit? I'd appreciate any advise from you or any commenter who has any experience with this issue.
I use Strava to record my rides and it hasn’t failed me yet. Now, for your Sinch.2’s. I doubt the bike shop will adjust the speed since the bike needs to be connected to the app on your phone. With that said. They may already be programmed to go 25mph, if not, just connect them to your phone and you can make the adjustments just like you did with your Aventure.
Purchased the Aventure 1 In May and was disappointed that it only went to 28 mph. To add insult to injury the cadence sensor is off and my true top speed is only 26. Adventon said there was no fix and that my phones g.p.s. and the road sign speed sensors are all wrong.
I went though the effort to unlock my Aventure 2 when I purchased it. Top speed capability was a selling point for me. It would sure disappoint me if Aventon unilaterally downgrades my max speed setting, in their software/firmware. The bike is safe to ride at the top speed I've reached on wide-open country roads. This concerns me now, because if I take the ebike to my dealer for service, they may inadvertently LOWER my max speed if they go into my software for any reason.
I’m new to e-bikes, but I thought I read something that class 3 bikes are limited to 28. Wonder if Aventon saw this mistake and realized that it’s a liability issue, so they backed them down. Does this make any sense?
Good video, I was disappointed when I heard they had limited the speed. Good to know that is no longer the case. However, speeds over 20mph on shared paths with people walking, running, biking, kids, pets, etc are what is going to get ebikes banned from these paths.
I ride bikes 95% of time and I can tell you that I only crank these bikes up to these speeds when I am testing them out. I go pretty slow around people on these paths when not testing speeds.
Scott, first of all, I am a new subscriber to your channel. We bought two Sinch 2 bikes the other day and now I am doing research of reviews on them! I was able to up the speed to 25 but curious why they do not allow it to go to the 28mph? Some people on the FB forum have been asking me if I had the recall done. I do not know and assume the bike shop we bought these from had taken care of it. Do you know if there is a way to check on the display the software version? Keep up the good work! Love your location and trails!
I believe it is because the sinch has a 500w hub motor instead of the 750w. As you saw, I also have sinch 2 but have no idea on what software version it has. I would ask that local bike shop can flash them for you to be sure (or at least find out if they have already done it). Thanks for subscribing!
I'd be really surprised if they keep the Aventure 2 at 32. I have the A1 and I removed the app as I had it set to 32 and liked the option of it being there. I usually don't go that fast.
Scott, I watch your channel a great deal, and rewatch to make sure I get it. This video in particular has me a little unsure. I will be buying a folder, such as Sinch 2 soon, as I am very happy with my original Aventure. I need to have a travel bike that will fit in backseat due to not having a hitch on my Kia. Here is the issue. You maintain that 5he Sinch 2 has 25 mph capability. The other videos, and Aventon site maintains that Sinch 2 won’t go over 20mph. I really like Aventon. Not sure I want Sinch 2 until I clear the speed issue up. Can you help me out on this? Dougdog
The reason the Sinch.2 now goes to 25mph, it is due to an upgrade in the firmware from Aventon. My Sinch.2 originally only went 20mph when purchased. I hope this helps.
It's very common among all Aventure 2's. It seems to be a resonance issue with the discs at a certain speed, and mine does it bad. You can find a lot of complaints by googling "resonance aventon 2 noise". I plan to change my discs out.
Yes, what the hell is that? I thought it was like a fender strut buzzing but everything is tight. As you said, doesn't hurt anything but still kind of annoying.
Thank you for the info! I could not unlock my Aventure-2 until I saw your video. Now, as for top speed, this refers to power assist while using the pedals, correct? (It is not 'throttle-only' mode).
I just bought a second hand aventon adventure from Upway bikes. I went into the info. mode and the listed bike shows, "Pace 500, 500w motor, with a 27.5 wheel size. My Adventure is a 750w motor w/ a 4" fat tire. I don't know what this is about.
sounds like the bike was once broken and they put in a controller and display from a Pace 500? That's my only guess. I can tell you it didn't come from Aventon that way.
Hi Scott. I just bought a used Aventon Level 2 and I increased my speed thanks to you. I was wondering if you have any problem with the Tektro Brakes only having one caliper moving? I'm having that problem and I don't know if I should replace the entire brake caliper/line and brake lever? Thanks.
When I had the 2 piston set on there, I didn't have any issues with the brakes after Aventon sent me new rotors. As an experiment, I did upgrade them to 4 piston brakes to see if it was a huge improvement, but I haven't had that issue on any of the 2 piston brakes that I have reviewed.
So I guess it could be I need new rotors. Anyway, I followed each step of yours on my level two which is not the adventure and it looks like I increased my speed to 28 mph, but it didn’t work. It might be because it’s a level two and not an adventure.
@@DVDSchner In the video I show the speeds of many of Aventon's bikes... I believe the Level 2 as well. They all unlock the same. Please note, if you unlock the bike or not, the throttle will only get you to 20mph. The unlocked part only works when you are pedaling using Pedal Assist.
Just bought a new adventure 2 fat tire - it unlocks to 28mph only when linked with the Aventon app through the phone. Otherwise it is limited to 20 mph. You can go faster than 28 mph (30 -32 mph) but you have to put in some serious effort in Turbo assist, top gear ( I think is 9) and on the flat with no wind. I was able to sustain 28 mph for quite some time on a flat 5 mile ride. The throttle stays locked at 20 mph no matter what you do. SO if you buy the Adventure 2, don’t expect the throttle to take you to 28 mph with or without the phone app. It is a fun bike to ride. I am going to buy a post shock because it is a hard tail bike.
I updated the android app yesterday to 1.7.1 and was able to increase my speed to 32mph for my Aventure 2. I can now pedal easily at 28mph and 32mph takes a some effort. Achieving 32mph feels like the old 28mph.
I have a level 2 recently purchased and have it set to 28mph. it stops all assist at around 20mph. I know this because it almost feels like the brakes were applied. This is the same in throttle only or peddle assist and the same regardless of what PAS setting I have it on. Most I can get it to is 26MPH peddling my @$$ off on flat. only have about 50 miles on it so far. Appreciate the video.
That's what I was saying. Anything above 20 is 100% unassisted. So my confusion is when people imply the bike will assist peddling tell it hits 28. Mine is set to 28 and it does nothing above 20mph.
I wish Aventon would give us the option for more low end torque on throttle only to do better on hills...... Like the Velotric Nomad. The throttle only gets you to 20mph so I think they should make it get there faster.
Very nice! So I just checked - my Aventon app isn’t showing a firmware update to my Aventure.2. Still capped at 28mph. Do I have to unpair/pair it again to get it to kick?
An Aventon rep stated the OG Sinch speed could no longer be increased past 20mph with last app update. True or false? I really love the frame design of Sinch 1.0 but would like closer to class 3 speeds. Thanks.
I have the 2021 Sinch and just upgraded to the BC280 display. I was able to increase the max speed to 25mph and already have pushed the e-bike to a max speed of 26.2mph.
I wasn't able to test the OG Sinch. I know the display is diffrent than the color displays now used. Maybe someone will see your comment and be able to give you that answer. With that being said, I would NOT connect to the app if you bike already goes past 20mph.
I've restored my bike to the original 32mph/51kmph after they slowed it down to 28mph/45kmph this past spring when I connected it to the app & an update was pushed! Fun Again!
At any point during this test were you going downhill to hit 33mph? I tested yesterday on my Aventure 1 and PAS 5 still averaged around 28mph max, I was able to hit 33.5mph max during my ride though most likely due to downhills.
A copy of the text in the email I sent to Aventon concerning my Aventure 1. “I’ve owned my Aventon Aventure for close to two years now. I decided to explore some of the background setting a few days ago and have run into a problem. The speed limit setting was set at 32 mph. I was wondering if the speed limit could be turn up higher. When I tried to do so, the speed limit changed to 28 mph. That would be ok because the Ebike is advertised to go 28 mph, right? Here is where there is a problem with that. The Aventure’s speedometer is not accurate. We checked the speed with two different gps apps and a separate gps device. They all indicated after changing the speed limit in the Aventon app that my Aventure is no longer able to reach 28 mph. How do I fix this? Thanks in advance.” Their answer to this problem… They sent me a new controller. Did it work? I’ve been so busy working I haven’t had a chance to replace it. I’m an HVAC contractor and needless to say it’s been a hot summer. But the weekend is coming up and I’ll be replacing it to see what happens. I’ll let everyone know. To be honest, I’ll be very surprised if it does work. I can’t help but think there’s no fault in the controller. I suspect Aventon snuck in the back door thru the app and changed it. With as many people I’ve seen complaining about the same problem, it’s almost guarantied to be the reason. If that’s the case I’ll never buy another Aventon product again. It’ would be a shame, they make a solid ebike. But I can’t trust a manufacturer who can pull the rug out from under you at any given time. We’ll see and I’ll let everyone, and I do mean everyone know.
I believe they regulated the bikes back down to 28mph to stay compliant with laws when it comes to Class 3 ebikes. They are only suppose to go 28mph max. I understand why they did it, I also understand why people who are used to the higher 30-32 mph speed are upset.
My Aventon app has shown a top speed of 45km/h (28mph)* for my Aventure 2 since I bought the bike in May. That top speed remains unchanged as of today. The app shows it was last updated a week ago. I’ll keep an eye on it. * In Canada.
@scotthardesty Do you know if there was another firmware update? My Soltera 2 hit 28.5 mph last Friday. Today I could not get it to go above 21mph. Both with pedaling and the assist
I have been unable to replicate this thus far. Tried updating the app from the Google Play Store and still no luck. Even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app because I'm entirely too thorough. Will attempt again after the weekend as I know that software rollouts can be staggered. I'm in St. Louis in case this is region locked for... reasons.
My Aventure 1 started having unintended bursts of acceleration 2 weeks ago. When I got home and was standing next to it bike took off and hit my wall. Ring camera caught it. Aventon knew the problem and sent me a new controller. Not sure I will ever trust it again. It could have turned out bad if it happened in a group of riders or on road. Had 32MPH before, now App goes to 28 max. Haven't ridden it yet.
Electronic parts fail, I have had to replace many a controller. I wouldn't be worried about riding your bike. Bummer about the speed loss (we have all felt that) but at least you will be able to trust your bike again.
@@scotthardesty I get that, but this failure mode is going to hurt people. Had I parked my bike 90 degrees to the left the bike would have launched into a busy street . Grabbing brake didn’t kill power to the motor. I’ve loved the bike Because after bad accident I never thought I would be able to ride again. Step though and electric made it possible. Keep up the great videos!
I have an electric bike, whereas I'm using the extended range battery. Now, my PAS, maximum level, is set to 5, but can be changed to level 9. Now, will the max level of PAS unlock the maximum speed level for using the extended range battery.
As far as I know, the aventon bikes I tested only have PAS levels of 5. Changing the PAS levels would not get them a higher rating than the maximum tested... just. more levels of PAS.
My wife and I were at our local Aventon dealership (Sarasota/Bradenton) last weekend checking out the Abound. She’s 5’2” so it was a good fit for her and I like it too. Even if it’s limited to 20 mph, that’s fine with her. The problem I have with Aventon is they dropped the top speed on my Aventure 1 from 32 mph indicated to 28 mph nearly 2 years after I purchased it. That’s a no no. As in no more Aventon products under our roof. I don’t care what their reasoning was for it. It was bought and payed for (again) nearly 2 years prior and was out of warranty almost 1 year prior to that. It’s a shame the local dealership is a nice family owned business that does good work. No more Aventon Ebikes under our roof. I’m going to give the Aventure away to one of my sons for what it’s worth to me… nothing literally. Maybe the local dealership will still get the future service work on Aventure from my son if he decides to keep it and use their services, maybe.
Is not Aventon's fault really, don't let anger get the better of you. Their product is the best value on the market, imo. They have likely been contacted by government regulators for being in violation of the Class 3 ebike speed limit of 28 mph. You can switch to another brand now if you wish, but you will run into this again and again as regulators go out doing their thing to bike companies. Just don't connect your bike to any apps, to delay the inevitable.
Sorry to hear this, but I get it. I also understand why Aventon probably had to do it as @rayrusell6258 stats, they probably had to do it to say in compliance with government regulations. But I also understand it on the consumer side as I am a consumer of Aventon products as well. I hope you find something that suits you!
@@HugoTheLigar seat belt use should be optional, too!! Stop your holier than thou personality, it isn't pretty. The effort to get even one or two mph more on a bike after say 15 mph is significant, so yes ebike riders have good reason to notice a 4 mph reduction. You must not ride bikes much. This country needs less regulation, period. However, no one should be blaming Aventon for this. They have to comply, legally.
@@rayrussell6258 It’s not just the fact they snuck in the back door to reprogram it long after it was bought and paid for and well out of the warranty period that has brought me to the decision to dump Aventon. I think the Aventure a very well built bike mechanically. The issues I’ve had with my Aventure have been more with the electrical aspects of the bike. The delay in throttle response is well documented. There’s also a significant delay in the up take in power when using any of the PAS modes. When the power does come on, it feels like it hits all at once. It can be quite unsettling when you’re trying to perform low speed maneuvers and you get a jolt of power. It’s unpredictable enough to never be able to consistently time it to compensate for it. I know Scott’s a good guy who’s honest and truthful in his reviews. I wouldn’t want to put him on the spot and compromise his relationships with Aventon or any other e-bike manufacturer. So I’d suggest you do a search yourself to see if those aren’t common complaints with the Aventure and wouldn’t be surprised if they aren’t common complaints with some of the other Aventon e-bikes also. I like to ride at top speed on the roads without a shoulder or bike lanes because it reduces the speed of impact between myself and a vehicle in case of an accident. Now when I get the bike up around 28 mph the motor power will cycle on and off intermittently. That’s not a very comfortable feeling. Another thing that’s unrelated to the top speed is I’m not your typical e-bike rider in that I do a lot of riding with the bike powered on, but don’t use the throttle or PAS modes as much as others rider do. I simply turn up the power level for 0 to the level I want as needed. I have the bike programmed to stay on for 100 minutes in the background program before it turns itself off in the auto-shutdown setting. But it’s not unusual for the power to shut down randomly before the 100 minute limit, even when the bike has been in continuous motion. That’s not good when you need immediate assistance and then surprise the bike turned itself off. Again I know most e-bike riders are continually using assistance and many haven’t had that issue but it shouldn’t happen either way. The programming feels like an afterthought on this bike and it is an E-bike and not just a bicycle after all. Shouldn’t Aventon be addressing the other issues with their e-bikes also? And let’s not forget if you need tech support they don’t have a tech line to contact them by phone, you have to email them. You see there’s more to the story than you think. Or maybe you did know more than you’re letting on? Your comments come across like you have an affiliation to them. I’m just a guy who rides e-bikes for the exercise and the enjoyment they provide. That, and it’ll get me home if any knee problems or what have you, pop up unexpectedly. You say “ Their product is the best value on the market, imo”. Well I expect better from them than that to meet that standard. imo. I have already switched to another brand, thank you. Cheers P.S. I forgot to mention “Pedal Strike”. LOL
I used to be able to get past 30 (when it allowed to max at 28mph on the app) on my sinch ST before and now it caps at 20 even with highest gear and pedaling.. hate how they did that. I should’ve not opened the app. CORRECTION: I just checked and redownloaded the app and now it’s allowing me to change it to 25MPH now instead of the 20!! I wonder if this was regards to the complaints people put out! I’ll test it tomorrow if I can actually go to those speeds!
Can you do a video of a female who is short or has short legs? How they fit. How they handle the weight. How the handlebar height is when seat is all the way down etc? I’m looking for a replacement for my wife and I like the av2 and the Kommoda
Bought Sinch.2 from dealer in July. Experienced & videoed dangerous motor surge when fully charged battery, hard pedaling into 14 mph. Stop pedaling, motor continues to increase speed on own into 22 mph range. Turning pas off does not stop. Braking does not stop motor until hard braking to fight motor. When speed decreases to 18 mph, motor finally shuts off. Returned bike to dealer & they were able to recreate issue. The other Sinch .2 they had also did same thing, They finally got attention of Aventon, but they are taking time getting flash fix distributed to dealers. May be bigger issue than 10 bikes….. Somebody can get killed if they unexpectedly encounter this defect. My experience is if battery is below 92% charge, the motor does not surge. Aventon sent dealer replacement bike that they claim was tested. I just got it & hope the controller firmware is fixed. Happy max speed is now set from 20 mph to 25mph.
Just got back from ride with a new replacement bike - Sinch .2. Supposedly Aventon tested the bike before shipping to the dealer. The ride had 100% battery, PAS Eco, Max speed limit set at 25. Motor ran away when approaching 21 mph, speeding up on its own towards 24 mph. Hard braking to slow down to 18 mph and then motor kicked off. So, 3 bikes in local area have defect. I am glad I bought through a dealer who is extremely sympathetic and helpful though this whole ordeal. I will return to the bike shop when they receive the re-flash tool from Aventon. Overall, I am happy with Sinch .2 One display design issue that I am surprised people don't complain about is the main screen does not show trip data. You have to come to a complete stop to get to a different display page for trip data. While riding, the battery level and speed are important, but to include total historical time and odometer rather than trip time and trip distance makes no sense.
Defiantly, not meaning it was just 10 bikes, although, when I talked to Aventon they said they had 10 with that issue. I just meant that they seemed to act on quickly once they were able to confirm the issue. I'm glad you got yours sorted out. So far, ours has not done that.
Oh wow, just saw you 2nd comment. Yeah, wait for the flash for sure. I know when I talked about the Aventure 2 I mentioned how I didn't like that you have to dive into the menu to get trip info as well. So I agree with you on that display.
UPDATE. Good news - local dealer did controller re-flash; took less than 1 minute. The speed surge issue is fixed. Still have 25 mph max limit so re-flash did not alter that. Aventon came through with a fix to a potentially serious defect.
Does anybody know if it’s possible to move the throttle on the aventure 1 from the left hand side of the handlebars to the right side possible moving other things if needed ?
I checked my limit this weekend and I could only get it to 30, but I was having a hard time getting it higher than that(I am out of shape tho) but it could possibly go higher.
Hi Scott I have a Aventon Adventure 1 Abd i did unlock it When i pedal with the bike it goes up to 45 km ( im from Canada toronto ) But when i use the throttle it is still at 33 Is there a way to unlock that too
Hey Scott! They actually did the speed nerf on a cinch. My cousin has cinch and he was so disappointed when they did that. He uses his bike to and from work and he needed the speed from time to time on the street.
@@scotthardesty nahhh… i was just curious about it! I don’t use that app at all! But i am not sure if aventon update their bikes through the app… maybe there is an improvement or something… but i do not care much about the app
@@scotthardesty yeah I can tell there not wanting to I’m in California and a bit ago I would go 30-38mph but now I go lower some people know ways to make them even faster then that but it costs around 1200 and I’m not gunna spend that much
Mine is unlocked , the throttle only I’ve gotten to 29 mph, PAS I’ve gotten to 32.5 so far. Not going to say the brand for fear they’ll fix it back to 28
Straight up why can't someone on android just manually install the old app and tell me if you can unlock the abound speed that way? This is the only thing preventing me from buying this cargo bike.
@@scotthardesty - Gave it a shot this morning and at least on my Level.2 there was no change. It's amazing what even just a 4 mile an hour bump would do.
It's infuriating that the Abound won't go above 20 mph. To be honest with the gearing they provide you are pretty much spun out at 20 mph anyways. The only drawback to the Abound IMHO after owning it for about a year.
2:33 I like and appreciate your content, but don't you think it's dangerous going that fast on a public pathway when passing other users? Even at 19 mph like in this clip, the risk of serious injury (or worse) is quite high if contact is made - e.g., if that child (newer rider w/training wheels) suddenly veers in front of you or someone else coming up behind them because they got spooked by your size & speed. In fact, just looking in your direction could cause that child to inadvertently steer in front of you. It only takes a slight misstep by someone for lives to be changed forever. I wouldn't want that on my conscience because of poor judgement. Just sayin'.
I get it, but I live in the city of Chicago and not a suburb. There are milions of people in this city and there will always be people no matter where I do these tests. I do my best (and have been extremely successful) of mitigating the dangers of others on the path. Since I had the camera focused on the display and not the trail, you cannot see that there are very few people.
@@ictpilot Agreed. Although, I don't see that happening as regulations state that the throttle can only goto 20mph. Other companies don't seem to follow that rule but Aventon is good about staying within regulations for long term success.
Jokes on them I modded a 1000w front wheel motor kit with an unlocked thumb throttle on my aventure.2... Yeah its like 100lbs now with a seperate battery pack but WHEEWWWWWWW. I can max out 45mph, feels safer on roads with traffic.
With effort and setting the bike speed to 28MPH, I was able to get my L2 up to 35. But at that point, the bike itself felt really unstable and I even crashed out. Concussed but had a helmet that probably saved my life. So while it’s great that these bikes can go fast, just keep in mind that they are not motorcycles and you always gotta mind your surroundings. Happy riding y’all
On my Aventure 2, the app speed limit shows 28mph (I forgot to show that in the video).
This may be my issue. I'll try a ride here in a bit.
Just for clarity, for the Aventure 2 the app says 28 but power is provided up to 32?
@@NickKendle Yes. That was my experience.
Well, you saw it was on 32 on his app. Bad part was, I screwed him by asking him to check the speed. So now he is throttled back to 28mph.
Hi Scott, I bought a Sinch.2 about a month ago and I just found out from you that I can increase the speed, thank you so much for that.
Glad to help!
What is the sinch 2's top speed?
*Update!* I got my Sinch 2s that I ordered. We've had bad weather since they arrived. Today, Jan. 22 2024, was finally a chance to try them out. I was curious whether the bikes would come from Aventon programed to go 25 mph. The answer was no. 20 mph tops. But I went into the app, paired with my Sinch 2, and the adjusted the top speed to 25 (max). And....25 mph! Fantastic! Thanks Scott!
Yup. Thats how you get those higher speeds! Glad its working for you.
Have you paired your bike recently? Are you still able to reach 25mph? I am scared to connect my sinch 2 to the app!
@@silleecat Have they lowered the top speed on Adventure 2 to 28mph again or is the top speed still 32mph?
I have the Aventure 1 are my bike did go down from 32 mph to 28 after hooking it to my phone. I’m now in the process of putting a K\T 35amp upgrade on it right now.
Whoa, what would that do for it?
Let me know how it goes because I won't sell my aa1 if that works out.
@@scotthardestyhigher amp controller should give higher top end speed. I question whether it will fit the frame.
Great video! Nothing makes Aventon customers more salty than seeing the top speed in the app change. The toxicity in social media comments section alone is enough reason to avoid Aventon sadly.
Thanks for sharing. That is sad that you avoid Aventon as I feel they have some of the best bikes (under 2k) on the market.
Will be selling mine when I can get the bike I was considering before I 'settled' for an aa1. Now I realize why they are so cheap.
My original is the same.
@@scotthardesty If you pair your Aventure to the app, it will automatically downgrade your op speed to 28 mph, now. Aventon irritatingly flashes your controller now to reduce the top speed to 28. Who owns the bike anyway? You or them?
@@gerrywagoner26 that’s exactly what this video is about.
Im looking at the Soltera 2 for work and stuff. Update on the bike? My Heybike broke on me 1600 miles in
My Soltera 1st gen. Is now unlocked to 25 mph up from 20mph when i bought it. This great bike got even better after i bought it 😊
Great to hear!
Pace 350.2 will unlock to 25mph currently, however, like the Solterra it will struggle to actually get up there. Both bikes are using 350w motors, and they seem to be tuned to put out most of their torque between 5-18mph on flat ground - at either end, it feels close to stalling.
I got a report that the original Soltera now does 25mph no problem. I am hoping they get the Soltera.2 figured out soon.
Agreed.
Nice love the colab with @mikerochester !
I don't think ebike reviewers do it enough... if at all. He's a good guy. Known him for about a year.
Just bought the Commuter Level 2. App allowed me to go to 28. The "throttle" alone will only take me to 20, but if I let up off the throttle and pedal hard, it will assist me up to 30 on flat ground.
Yes, the throttle will only work up to 20mph on all the Aventon bikes. Thanks for the input!
Congrats on your Level 2!
I love its weight and found a local bike shop who would service it if i got it through him.
I know the Wired Freedom is touted a lot on the internet but its weight and tire size makes it seem like a pain to Load/unload. I fly drones so I wanna get even further sites to launch from thats away from my car.
the higher the speed above 25 mph the happier I'll be but 35mph plus is kinda overkill, but fun (still over kill)
since its not safe on pedestrian paths, but great for bike lanes on the road.
My speed dropped from. 32 to 28 on my Aventure this is upsetting that they lowered the speed.
Yup. My suggestion is. If you have the Aventure 1 and it's unlocked at 32mph... DO NOT connect to the app.
theres a tutorial floating around to get back to 32mph on reddit. i did it yesterday and it worked.
Well, that's unfortunuate.
Don't worry about that. They cannot connect your bike to the App, only you can.
Well is the max speed still 32mph?
@@CamTheMan8 I've had no reason to take it in for service.
I’m new to e-bikes, but I thought I read something that class 3 bikes are limited to 28. Wonder if Aventon saw this mistake and realized that it’s a liability issue, so they backed them down. Does this make any sense?
It makes perfect sense and I agree that this is why they did dropped it back down to 28mph.
I go faster on my roadbike at 22-32mph on trails,20 isnt that fast

Glad to help!
I wonder if there's any tweaks for the Solterra 2. :)
None that I have found so far.
I'd be really surprised if they keep the Aventure 2 at 32. I have the A1 and I removed the app as I had it set to 32 and liked the option of it being there. I usually don't go that fast.
I know. I don't plan on connecting my Aventon app to my A2 every again. hahaha
I have a aventure event one and it's still governed at 28 I wish I'd switch it back to 32 like the venture 2 is now why is that

Question: does your Aventure 2 make a scraping sound when going between 13-18 mph? Mine runs great besides that sound
Mine does not. If it did, I would have the rear brake rotor checked to see if it is straight or not.
It's very common among all Aventure 2's. It seems to be a resonance issue with the discs at a certain speed, and mine does it bad. You can find a lot of complaints by googling "resonance aventon 2 noise". I plan to change my discs out.
@@NickKendleI had this, changed my discs when I upgraded brake pads, it actually got worse :(
Yes, what the hell is that? I thought it was like a fender strut buzzing but everything is tight. As you said, doesn't hurt anything but still kind of annoying.
Thank you for the info! I could not unlock my Aventure-2 until I saw your video. Now, as for top speed, this refers to power assist while using the pedals, correct? (It is not 'throttle-only' mode).
Corret. Throttle will only get you up to 20mph.
@@scotthardesty Thanks, Scott; much appreciated.
Thank you! That is really good to know!
Thanks Todd.
I updated the android app yesterday to 1.7.1 and was able to increase my speed to 32mph for my Aventure 2. I can now pedal easily at 28mph and 32mph takes a some effort. Achieving 32mph feels like the old 28mph.

Most I can get it to is 26MPH peddling my @$$ off on flat. only have about 50 miles on it so far. Appreciate the video.
Throttle will only take you to 20mph. To go faster, you need to pedal. Make sure you take your hand off the throttle when wanting to go faster.
That's what I was saying. Anything above 20 is 100% unassisted. So my confusion is when people imply the bike will assist peddling tell it hits 28. Mine is set to 28 and it does nothing above 20mph.
@@tomstone8976 Ah, now I understand. I sounds like your controller is messed up.
I wish Aventon would give us the option for more low end torque on throttle only to do better on hills...... Like the Velotric Nomad. The throttle only gets you to 20mph so I think they should make it get there faster.
I also believe the Nomad is limited to 20mph on throttle only as well. It's been a minute since I have compared the two in a video.
Very nice! So I just checked - my Aventon app isn’t showing a firmware update to my Aventure.2. Still capped at 28mph. Do I have to unpair/pair it again to get it to kick?

Thanks in advance.”
Their answer to this problem… They sent me a new controller.
I hate how they did that. The only time I opened the app I read about them sneaking in to make speed limitations
My Aventon app has shown a top speed of 45km/h (28mph)* for my Aventure 2 since I bought the bike in May. That top speed remains unchanged as of today. The app shows it was last updated a week ago. I’ll keep an eye on it.
* In Canada.
It still shows 28mph on my app as well. I am just showing that before, it was hard to get it up to 28mph, but now, I can go up to 32mph.
Are you in BC or another province such as Ontario where bikes have a regulated maximum speed of 32 km/h (20 mph)?

The only thing I can think of would have you replacing the controller, display and throttle. Area 13 bikes has a kit for that.
Cheers
P.S.
I forgot to mention “Pedal Strike”. LOL
@@HugoTheLigar Looks like you’re the one who’s puckering up. Try to relax, reach back behind you and pull those panties out sweetheart.
I know my Sinch 2 does 25mph so I hope yours does as well!
So on the Aventon ebikes you have to peddle to maintain speed ?.
You can use the throttle to maintain a speed of 20mph. Anything faster than that and you will need to pedal it.
Can you do a video of a female who is short or has short legs? How they fit. How they handle the weight. How the handlebar height is when seat is all the way down etc? I’m looking for a replacement for my wife and I like the av2 and the Kommoda
Unfortunately, I do not know any short females... and I do not have a Kommoda.
@@scotthardesty LOL "I do not know any short females" Thanks for replying though. Keep up the great videos.
@@randyr3223 They said they had a fix and followed thru. Glad you are all sorted out now!
So I’m kind of confused if I buy a aventon adventure 2 will the top speed now be 32mph?
I understand the confustion. It shows the highest you unlock it is to 28mph, but as you saw in the video, I got it up to 32mph.
Does anybody know if it’s possible to move the throttle on the aventure 1 from the left hand side of the handlebars to the right side possible moving other things if needed ?
Yes. I have seen in the FB groups where people have done it.
I checked my limit this weekend and I could only get it to 30, but I was having a hard time getting it higher than that(I am out of shape tho) but it could possibly go higher.
30 is plenty fast in my book!
from my understanding, you can go over what the bike limits you. but you must provide that additional speed or go downhill.
Hi Scott
I have a Aventon Adventure 1

When i pedal with the bike it goes up to 45 km ( im from Canada

But when i use the throttle it is still at 33
Is there a way to unlock that too
Sorry, you cannot unlock the throttle. It is stuck at 33km.

Great video
Thank you!
Hey Scott! They actually did the speed nerf on a cinch. My cousin has cinch and he was so disappointed when they did that. He uses his bike to and from work and he needed the speed from time to time on the street.
Hmmmmm... well I guess I got lucky. I haven't connected the Sinch to the app since this video so it will stay at the 25mph speeds.
Will they throttle at 28 or only with pedal assist
Throttle only takes you to 20mph. Pedal assist for higher speeds.
Does the sinch 2 still going up to 25mph!? I am scare to update the app and locked it up to 20

Yes. The throttle will always be locked at 20mph.
Hey Scott yes I’m only 14 but my dad bought me and him a bike and it looks to be like they lowered the speed do you know a way to bring it back up

It's infuriating that the Abound won't go above 20 mph. To be honest with the gearing they provide you are pretty much spun out at 20 mph anyways. The only drawback to the Abound IMHO after owning it for about a year.

Now make sure you disconnect it from the app before they change it again!

That's some ingenuity right there!
With effort and setting the bike speed to 28MPH, I was able to get my L2 up to 35. But at that point, the bike itself felt really unstable and I even crashed out. Concussed but had a helmet that probably saved my life.
