Chicken rice is about 60-70 baht a meal like most dishes. Daily food budget of 300 baht (8.6 dollar) is enough for 1 person. Cooking at home is only gonna save you money if you like to eat a lot of meat.
Most people think Thailand is a 3th world country till they visit these kind of supermarkets/malls. Everything is in English and these kind of supermarkets are more fancy then the one's in Belgium, France, Spain, Italy etc...
What you may need to know is that Makro and Lotus supermarkets are owned by the same person, CP Group, and Makro is cheaper because it is a wholesale market for shops and restaurants.
I love videos like this, thank you Isaiah, very informative. Everything was ridiculously cheap. I'm curious to know how they priced the seafood per unit of weight. I actually wouldn't mind a 2 hour grocery shopping video lol, which includes items you would get at a hardware store, and an electronics store. That gives me a thorough understanding.
Shit man you would have spent $32 here just on the wings and steak alone and I live in Atlanta Georgia. I'm glad you did this. Hi Isaiah, do you enjoy playing ping pong? I am from US living part time in Jomtien area, would enjoy meeting people here and staying active. Best wishes for your channel.
It's very obvious that grocery stores here beat US grocery stores hands down with regards to size, choices and being able to find your needs. Very impressive!
I assume the prices of items that are sold by weight is per kg? When comparing prices to the US I'm roughly cutting the cost I see in your video in half. Thanks for the in-depth tour! Thinking of doing an early retirement there, not sure yet, but watching videos like this just to help with an informed decision. Cheers.
So is the chicken completely safe to eat? Was it kept cold? If you eat from the grocery store and drink bottled seltzer water can I avoid getting sick from sloppy food prep I hear a lot about.?
Hey you forgot the celery for the wings. Need more greens in your diet. By the way, do they sell celery in Thailand? I've watched a few of these grocery store vids and have never seen it. Broccoli and celery are a big part of my diet and was hoping to continue to have it when I move there. Thanks!

Man you blew through those places too fast . Great idea for a video but you missed alot of items prices and most of the quantities. It's hard to know if Something is a good deal without the quantity. Also, would have been useful to know more staples cost.
It seems like dairy in particular is similarly priced or even high relative to the US. What I've found odd is that there doesn't ever seem to be chicken broth available,
For me, it's not about how long this video takes. It's about how much you you could enter into a single story and find almost everything you need, including help us do a price comparison in relation to our countries. There are definitely some countries you go where this business is a disaster. In order words, you encounter scarcity of basic items on a regular basis, which means you have to go from one store to another and yet, you're not guaranteed finding all your needs.
I want to spend a few months over there.. I'm curious to see how the locals lil street markets that sell the fruits and groceries compare. I'm noticing a lot of places dont have a kitchen.. Do the landlords give issues over things like mini fridge and microwaves? I mean a lot of things can be cooked in a small airfryer etc lol. I think I would go almost like that "college dorm route." If i couldnt get a place with a mini kitchenette.
