  • Solomonster reacts to the death of one of the greatest of all time in Terry Funk who passed away at the age of 79 last week. How do you sum up a career in a matter of minutes? Solomonster attempts to do just that by sharing his thoughts on Terry's career, his early time with WWE, his famous matches with Ric Flair in 1989, how he almost ended up as one of Jerry Lawler's knights at Survivor Series, his infamous Shotgun Saturday Night appearance, his time as Chainsaw Charlie, what he meant to the success of ECW and what separates him from other legends like Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair. Terry Funk was one of a kind, and the wrestling business is worse off for it.

His promos during his feud with Flair were gold. The thing that sucks with getting old is that you watch your heroes fade away. RIP legend.

I've heard other wrestlers from that era that said that Terry Funk left WWF in 1986 because he could not work with the JYD anymore. Terry Funk was one of my all-time favorites. I have since passed on that fandom to my son. RIP

There really will never be another Terry Funk.
He was an icon both in the ring and in real life. My heart goes out to his family and friends, and as someone who was just a kid in the 90s, watching someone like Terry Funk really makes you appreciate the old ways of wrestling. Heaven now has just gotten a lot more hardcore with the Funker. In all of my years of being a wrestling fan, I don't think I've heard of anyone speak negatively about him. Now, as he rides off into the sunset.
He will be greatly missed long live the hardcore icon Terry Funk. He did things his way ✊️🤠

Terry Funk and Jerry Lawler are two guys who are rarely, if ever, brought up in the GOAT conversation, and I think that is a TRAVESTY! Both guys revolutionized the industry decade after decade and never get their props simply because they never had a big WWE run. Meanwhile Jerry Lawler was one of the hottest wrestling stars and drew big houses for literal decades and Terry Funk is commonly regarded as one of the best NWA champions ever

I’ve said Terry Funk is on the American Mount Rushmore of wrestling when it comes to impact and influence.
He was way before my time, as I grew up watching wrestling in the 2000-2010’s. The Rise & Fall of ECW DVD made me realize how important he was to wrestling. One of the GOATS. R.I.P. Terry Funk

I remember Terry Funk was in Over the Top and Paradise Alley with Sylvester Stallone. He also choreographed the Rocky V street fight with Stallone and the late Tommy Morrison which is my only favorite part of the movie.

I love that you referenced "Die Hard With a Vengeance" when you compared the part with Simon Gruber's school "bomb" to the end of the AEW "exploding barbed wire death ring" match 🤣. I always loved Terry's "satchel ass" promo to Foley for I think the 2nd "One Night Stand" PPV. And people at the F4W~! board were editing it into songs that Bryan and Vinny would play on their podcast.

Terry funk had a career like no other. Wrestled not only so many greats but era defining greats. I wouldn't be shocked if he holds the record for wrestling the most hall of famers because my gosh the people he fought. He did well in multiple markets and so many different wrestling styles. He was doing death matches when he was in his 50s just because. Like he didn't need to do that, especially in Japan with him winning so many tournaments and championships but terry funk wanted to work with fire, barbed wire, and explosions. He gave us so many memorable moments from him throwing a raw chicken at Dustin Rhodes to having all the chairs thrown into the ring. He randomly came into wwf as chainsaw Charlie despite everyone knowing it was terry funk and the commentaries outright saying it's terry funk. I know he wrestled until 2017 but to me I always want to think his last match ecw one night stand 2006 of edge and Mick Foley vs Tommy dreamer and Terry funk. A match where he reused the "my eye, my eye" line after being knocked back off the apron into a barbed wire board only to come back out bandaged up later in the match and swing a flaming barbed wire baseball bat.

Funk worked a few shows with Hogan prior to that January '86 SNME. A taped show in Denver which led to that SNME, and one Maple Leaf Gardens match which was entertaining due to Jesse Ventura going off at Hogan on commentary. He and Dory had a tag match against Hogan and JYD on the SNME after WrestleMania 2.

Something he said in the video here really got me thinking and it’s why I think it is impossible to figure out who the goat in professional wrestling is. It’s not the NBA or the NFL were you have real stats and championships to compare. I just don’t think it’s fair to compare eras. And if you go back more than 25 years ago now you’re getting into guys that were the top guys for a decade, but may be in different companies. That’s why I just have a list of grades and I can’t really put one above the other. But Terry’s in that group. I to simplify it for those that live both through the 80s and 90s can you really sit here and see that Hogan or Austin was bigger or better for the wrestling business? I still think that’s why we never saw that match when Hogan returned because who’s going over? For me personally, I have never rated whether someone had a great WWF or WWE run as a reason why they should be considered one of the greats or not. There were so many grades that really didn’t have a great run in that company. It still amazes me to this day That Vince McMahon treated Ric Flair like he did because every other big name from the south Vince McMahon would hire them, and then pretty much go out of his way to embarrass them. But yeah, Terry will always be one of the greats to me.

RIP Terry funk this news sucks my All-time favorite Terry funk moment is his debut as Chainsaw Charlie in 1997 Kevin Dunn said that nobody's going to know who he is and Jim Cornette said that anybody that comes out of a Box they're over and when Terry got out of the box with the Chainsaw the arena went crazy Shane Douglas Vs Terry Funk Vs Sabu at ECW the night the line was crossed in 1994 was fantasic.
