I remember playing this on PS1 with no memory card, the 5 year old me had to play this game from the beginning each time I played. But, that didn't discourage me due to how much fun the game was to play. My favourite game on Ps1 by far
+Nicholas Johns omg i was exactly the same. Played for years and each day i began at the begining. Lol such a great game. I wish mother never gave ps1 away..
Can’t watch this for too long.. , I get overwhelmed. those childhood memories really touch every string of your heart , the 90s.. , memories we all will never forget ❤️
the producer's name is Soichi Terada from the label Far East Recordings, he has become a house music master since, and an embassador of Japanese House music everywhere in the world. you should check his work on youtube you might love it
One of the BEST original Playstation games of all time! LOVE this game so much. Brings back so many great childhood memories. I really hope they make it available for purchase on the PSN store sometime.
Lildrummerboy714 ape escape 2 in available as a ps2 classic on ps4 now. just bought it for £3.19. not as good as the 1st but a good old school throwback
This game was my freakin favorite to play along with Spyro for the PS1, I remember bringing this game to my friend's house and caught every ape and I let my friend catch Specter:D
My favourite one was the one with the dinosaurs. And the cracked eggs the moneys would hide in.. I used to cut out triangle shapes out of paper and tape them on to my fingers on my nails to make it look like I had claws just like the dinosaur. I loved this game even my dad and my grandparents loved watching me play!
This is the first video game I ever played as a kid. I remember playing this on the old playstation which was my first gaming console. Oh the nostalgia!
i remember i broke my leg and by brother bought me ps with this game so it was my first game i ever played and to this day its best one i played a large amount of games..i was 10 now 22 damn time flies
This game is so incredible. I have played it through it multiple times throughout my entire life and it remains extremely fun each time. Classic gaming masterpiece!
I remember when i was 5 i found this game in a old shelve in our house that had been there for a couple of months and i never knew about this game either but when i started playing it it was one of my favorite games on ps1
still some of best sound effects and soundtrack^^ also very fun and challenging gameplay w/ very cool, atmospheric levels. ....they should make another
I didn't play the PS1 version as a kid, but I actually played the PSP version as a kid! Like Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee, I LOVED this game in my childhood.
I clearly recall of this game. My father would take us to pick out a rental film and counsel game at the end of each week and Ape Escape and Heart of Darkness were the two that I clearly remembered begging to purchase, once the rental periods were over.
This is like the first time i ever seen any gameplay of the PS1 version of Ape Escape. I only ever saw and played the Ape Escape remake (It was fun) and boy, i can feel the nostalgia from looking at this version of the game. I also like how the music is the structured the same, but you can still tell there are differences with the soundtrack from here and the PSP version (I think i like the PSP soundtrack more). I don't think I'll play this version of the game (yet) mainly because i don't feel like beating the whole game again basically lol. But it looks so MAD fun!
Oh man, I remember how much fun it was to shoot with the slingshot, where you actually had to pull back the stick and then release it, and also that flying gadget, where in order to fly you needed to spin the stick as fast as you could :D. So fun and unique!
It was the first PS1 game requiring exclusively a DualShock controller, but both Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo, which had come out a few months earlier that same year, could use analog controls from the DualShock. With that said by this point (1998) analog controls were nothing new on the PS1. As a matter of fact the DualShock was the widely marketed, rumble enabled version of the Dual Analog Controller which had come out a year and a half earlier in select territories and only supported rumble in the Japanese version (interestingly beating Nintendo's Rumble Pack to the punch by two months). Games like Bushido Blade (1997) already accepted analog controls and rumble well ahead of the DualShock. Even then we had the NeGCon controller, which had an analog component for turning, that had come out with the very first version of Ridge Racer and that could be used on some other games of the time.
damn i am 22 now, time goes by... just ordered this game, gettin an old psx -slim- from my friend these days and then i will play it again after 11 years or so.
The memories are flooding back... I'v been looking for this game for ages because i didn't even know what was it called when i was little, i just knew i just fucking loved it. accidentally found it while watching some WTF in speedruns... glad i found it ^_^
I loved this game so much..only had a demo of it but I played it so much..loved how he could fly, hop on that creature like lapras in Pokémon..swim..so much fun. Oh and the radar or whatever it was. One day want the full game.
such a bizarre game on so many levels, lol! So good in so many ways, and so oblivious in ways that are not only forgivable, but give it a bizarre humor. "Quick, find and catch all the monkey's with alarms on their heads for reasons, but don't forget the magic punch, it's very powerful!' XD.
Played this game without a memory card back in the day, needless to say my playstation was left turned on for atleast a month lol :) Miss this sooo much
I only owned this super demo disk for the PS One and loved replaying the demo levels for this. Was also hoping it was on the PSN among the other classics they put up but then I realized it was for the PSP and Vita OTL Curses....
Agreed. You can just shot bad buys in so many ways until the buzz wears off and then look around for a different experiece which has now become just climbing over the pile of FPS blocking the front door to get to the back shelfs. I wouldn't mind some sophiticated melee combat or tactical plotting. (RavenSquad at least tried)
Yes... that is why there are 8,000 sequels and spin-offs... because no one remembers it. :P I clearly remember this game, because it was the first game that required me to get a Dualshock PS1 controller... shortly after the Dual Analog controller was released.
I remember playing this on PS1 with no memory card, the 5 year old me had to play this game from the beginning each time I played. But, that didn't discourage me due to how much fun the game was to play. My favourite game on Ps1 by far

Nicholas Johns brooooooo same here
Lol same. Every kid goes through that “gotta give it away” stage
Haha i always play without memory Card on my PS1 , when i turn off the game i always start again haha

Can’t watch this for too long.. , I get overwhelmed. those childhood memories really touch every string of your heart , the 90s.. , memories we all will never forget ❤️
It really brings me right back.
very underrated game, i wasted many hours playing this back in the day
+poppenlol
The time you enjoy is not wasted
Except it's not underrated at all? it's literally on a bunch of different "best of" lists, and holds a score of 90 on metacritic
It has good ratings, but it's not well known.
vicesat Exactly!
@poppenlol
Ur a blowup doll 😮
the sounds bring back so much good memories of the game, and even seeing it brings back tears to my eyes, such a lovely game
the producer's name is Soichi Terada from the label Far East Recordings, he has become a house music master since, and an embassador of Japanese House music everywhere in the world. you should check his work on youtube you might love it

Weeaboocrusher I couldn't agree more man :)
Lildrummerboy714 ape escape 2 in available as a ps2 classic on ps4 now. just bought it for £3.19. not as good as the 1st but a good old school throwback
Russ Mawson Tell me when they release the original and I'll be on it like white on rice lol.
Yeah me too. Seems to be no sign of PS1 classics on ps4
So good. "I'm goin' for it!" I still say this when pulling out of a driveway onto a busy street.
"just go for it!" from Viewtiful Joe are also words to live by, especially at a 4-way intersection
OH MY GOD I ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY LOVED THIS GAME WHEN I WAS YOUNGER HOLY SHIT THIS UNLOCKED A CORE MEMORY
NOSTALGIA.
I used to play it when I was in kindergarden. Oh, the memories ❤
I loved this game as a kid. aaaaaaaah the good old PS1 days :-)
The devs of this game have done so much with so little... This game is still one of my favourite games of all time!
I always check behind waterfalls now in games, mostly because i played this as a 5 year old
This game was my freakin favorite to play along with Spyro for the PS1, I remember bringing this game to my friend's house and caught every ape and I let my friend catch Specter:D
Awesome. :) Oh, the memories... I remember as a kid this game scared me, but it was fun at the same time. Hahaha
All the games they have remastered were some of my favorite.
They are remastering Medieval too! Now if they remaster this I'll be set for life. 😂💜
My favourite one was the one with the dinosaurs. And the cracked eggs the moneys would hide in.. I used to cut out triangle shapes out of paper and tape them on to my fingers on my nails to make it look like I had claws just like the dinosaur. I loved this game even my dad and my grandparents loved watching me play!
i remember being stressed out playing this when i was 6 or 7
Brought back my childhood memories man.. I wish I was a kid again 😭
I loved this game so much. I think I’m gonna buy it on eBay again

I believe it is on the playstation store if you don't mind digital :D
Definitely one of my all time favourite video games. It also had some killer minigames, like skiing and monkey boxing.
I remember playing this on my brother's ps1! the soundtrack slapped!!
Nostalgia overload and I’m loving every second
my favorite gadget on the game was that yellow and green stick so i could fly xD
I liked the remote control car. 😂
Dying of nostalgia... This was a part of my childhood :')
If they remaster this I can die happy. 💜
They have been remastering all my favorite games.
Used to play this in my Psp back then, one of my favourite games including the locoroco. I really wanna go back to childhood 💞
I miss the Drum & Bass boom of the late 90s and 2000s.

This game is so incredible. I have played it through it multiple times throughout my entire life and it remains extremely fun each time. Classic gaming masterpiece!

Omg yes! This was my childhood.
So true man, this game was soo fun, and all the sound and music had a unique feel lol
One of the most amazing and memorable experiences from my childhood. Shame we all have to grow up someday...
the nostalgia of this game is incredible. i remember playing this back when i was like 4, along with super mario bros
The soundtrack to this stage has stuck to me since I was a kid.
One of the first childhood memories i have the sound effects bring ME BACK

Those darn apes were my prime nemesis when I grew up. Just listening to the sound of the game again stresses me out.
I remember when i was 5 i found this game in a old shelve in our house that had been there for a couple of months and i never knew about this game either but when i started playing it it was one of my favorite games on ps1
i still have this game.... so many memories playing it
Aw man, brings back so many memories.
Man I wish I was born in the 90s so I could enjoy the amazing games of the late 90s and early 2000s.
Nothing is more 90s child game nostalgic than this for me.
still some of best sound effects and soundtrack^^ also very fun and challenging gameplay w/ very cool, atmospheric levels.
....they should make another
this game was hella hard lmao but i never gave up. I also never beat it
I was able to 100% it, I don't think I have the patience for that now though.
I was 4 when I played this game
I beat it a few times. It was hard though
I never beat the game. The boss was too hard for me lol. I will beat it one day...
If you never beat it yet you never gave up, that means you are still trying to beat it to this day
It was a beautiful game. Epic.
When you got home from the primary school, and the first thought was to play at least 1 hour with this
This game give me a tear lol
Very underrated and ae1 is easily the best one, the only one with hidden Spector coins
I used to play this game all the time as a kid and i had no clue what i was doing but i had a blast.
I didn't play the PS1 version as a kid, but I actually played the PSP version as a kid! Like Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee, I LOVED this game in my childhood.
Anyone else remember playing this game at a Target?
I never played it at Target, but I miss those old gaming kiosks where you could sample games. Would have been awesome to play it that way
Ah, this game brings back memories. Such a good game too.
I loved this series. The thrill of getting a new gadget was awesome
I clearly recall of this game. My father would take us to pick out a rental film and counsel game at the end of each week and Ape Escape and Heart of Darkness were the two that I clearly remembered begging to purchase, once the rental periods were over.
underrated game.best game after crash bandicoot for ps1
this- this- this is legendary

I remember playing this gamer getting far and then (foggy memory) I somehow lose my ps1 and didn’t get to pass an important mission.
Great game brings back memories
Best game ever
Oh man, I remember how much fun it was to shoot with the slingshot, where you actually had to pull back the stick and then release it, and also that flying gadget, where in order to fly you needed to spin the stick as fast as you could :D. So fun and unique!
Holy fucking shit... My childhood.. In a RUclips video!
The feels
haha ones of my favorite games in ps1 era haha
omg the memories comming in xD
How can you hate this game, it was great
I think it's the first PS1 game that requires an analog controller. It's not playable on the older digital controller.
This game came with a dual analog stick controller when I bought it.
damn i am 22 now, time goes by... just ordered this game, gettin an old psx -slim- from my friend these days and then i will play it again after 11 years or so.
So amazing i need to play this again
The memories are flooding back...
I'v been looking for this game for ages because i didn't even know what was it called when i was little, i just knew i just fucking loved it.

I literally googled "PS1 game catching monkeys" and this video came up!
it's coming back to PS PLUS
They really need to remaster this game asap!!
I loved this game so much..only had a demo of it but I played it so much..loved how he could fly, hop on that creature like lapras in Pokémon..swim..so much fun. Oh and the radar or whatever it was. One day want the full game.

Played this game without a memory card back in the day, needless to say my playstation was left turned on for atleast a month lol :) Miss this sooo much
Getting new weapons and gadgets in the newer versions of this game was such a fucking treat
I remember this game as i kid.. had it on the pizza hut demo disc. I had no idea how to pass it but i loved it!
My first game for PS1 and still my favourite. What a soundtrack too! I started laughing when you beat the shit out of that last ape at the end haha
I probably still couldn't beat this game
One of my favourite games ever on the PS1
This game brings back memories
I only owned this super demo disk for the PS One and loved replaying the demo levels for this. Was also hoping it was on the PSN among the other classics they put up but then I realized it was for the PSP and Vita
OTL Curses....
OMG this game was to dope :,D
this was the best game as a kid for me
I remember that turtle thing in the water when I was a kid, it scared the shit out off me!
This would have been an amazing animated series
Agreed. You can just shot bad buys in so many ways until the buzz wears off and then look around for a different experiece which has now become just climbing over the pile of FPS blocking the front door to get to the back shelfs. I wouldn't mind some sophiticated melee combat or tactical plotting. (RavenSquad at least tried)
my most favorite game of all time. best game I ever played, 10/10
One of best game
this takes me back to when I was 4-5 years old 😌😌😌
Yes... that is why there are 8,000 sequels and spin-offs... because no one remembers it. :P
I clearly remember this game, because it was the first game that required me to get a Dualshock PS1 controller... shortly after the Dual Analog controller was released.
