  • Setting yourself up for success definitely starts with ensuring you are going to work for a team who is invested in your education and onboarding. The most commonly asked question is "how long should orientation be?" Which is great, but it is surface level. Even the longest orientation period in the world may prove unfruitful if there are not systems in place to train you.

On top of the training, you have to keep up with your CEUs for the ARNP and RN. And start planning recertification the moment you get certified.

Getting used to their computer system is very stressful for any job RN or NP. Every company has their own set of protocols to follow. Other protocols are set in stone like Clozapine REM (I'm PMHNP). Charting notes tend to follow computer forms, and part of the assessment. New patients require a full interview admission, but follow up do not take much time, and perhaps adjustments to meds, looking at labs or adding some. Some companies like new grads simply because they are "fresh meat" so it is easier to learn it their way of doing things, and do not have to pay them as much. Experience means more money.
