I chose FNP for versatility to be able to work in any setting should I chose to leave the acute setting someday. I've been in acute care for my entire career, no issues fjnding a job as FNP in a hospital setting and the pay is almst 3 tomes as much as FNPs in my area who are in am outpatient setting. I think it is just like any other nursing job and totally depends on what you are actually doing and what state you live in that will dictate the pay.

Hi, been watching your videos. I graduated BSN, and been working ED RN last half a year. I am looking into a good, public full time FNP program start next year, so by the time i graduate i will have 4-5 ED RN experience. I am still undecided, if its too soon. Also, if FNP is what is best for me. Or should i do Acute Care. All that here in NYC.

Thank you so much! I’m agonizing over this decision: primary care vs acute care. I plan on being in a hospital-based cardiac clinician. I was “raised” in this practice from a transcriptionist, to cardiac tech, to phlebotomist, LNA (CVSU) to MA (cardiac clinic) then to a BSN. But I always go back to cardio. Not interested in moms, babies or kids lol. And I could do my practicums in the hospital I work in with providers I know how to communicate with already. So am I just delaying the inevitable? Do I go with ACNP???

I know this video is older, but I don't know any programs that require the GRE. 🤔 It's really not a tool which represents how successful a person will be in school, or as a nurse practitioner. If a standardized test is something schools would like to have to screen for ability - then the governing body for nursing education (national or state) should design a test reflecting one's nursing skills, critical thinking skills... and I'd argue part of the test should be to determine someone's level of empathy and psychological soundness! To think being able to score well on a non-nursing or healthcare specific test like a GRE automatically equates to being a great NP is ridiculous. Many attributes of a great care provider cannot be quantified on a standardized written test.
