Such a wonderful legacy left by your grandmother - particularly enriching to realize the immense value in these heirlooms. A stunning collection indeed.
It’s beautiful to see these amazing treasures being passed down to future generations. So many of these are sold off for the monetary value. I hope she kept them and will be passing them on to the next generation
In the year 2000 when this was filmed the average price of gold was $279 per tr.oz. Now in 2023 it is a little over $2000 per tr.oz. Even accounting for inflation every item shown here would be worth about 4x-6x the 2000 value just for the metals.
yeah but still, do not invest in gold LOL.. it is not the 1800s anymore and when a currency hits the fan you can smelt mine for free.. I might make mine into a sword LOL
@@saeawn I disagree. As someone who has worked in the antiques business and collected gold for a long time I want to make clear that gold is a fantastic metal for a variety of reasons. It's a fantastic conductor for instance extremely vital to electronics. Gold will always have value. Ideally you would want to invest in gold when the price is low. However since your comment 10 months ago the price of gold has shot up £400 per troy ounce. Now will the price of gold continue to rise? The short answer is yes, if war persists and grows in scale. With NK deploying troops in Europe and tensions rising in the theatres of war, the price of gold is expected to rise in line with the rising tensions. Basically when war is looming, the value of resources rises too. If the conflicts subside then the prices of resources like gold may fall. The point I'm making is that investing in gold has nothing to do with the 1800s as you said, and everything to do with politics.
Agree but people are greedy thinking of themselves and the "now" instead of making it with labor and passing down that knowledge to the next generation
That is so exciting to have a piece of your families history!! I would be more excited to have had my mother, grandmother and great grandmother, share their knowledge of where each piece of jewelry came from and the history of it. Thankfully you didn't have your inherent stolen from you by someone else who thought they eere entitled to it.
@@bmar740 Thrown into buying an over-inflated in price house, no doubt. In the meantime the value of gold has kept up with the price of houses and old jewelry gets melted down every day, so that can only rise in value over the generations, if kept in good condition.

It's worth MUCH more than his estimate. Much more. Those are one of a kind pieces of jewelry of very high quality if they're in real gold. I'd be willing to pay her an arm & a leg for those jewels. 🎉
I have totes and totes of jewelry that needs to be sorted.... After my house was broken into and they stole my whole entire jewelry box then I had my daughter and I started hoarding jewelry and I would buy bags of jewelry and things like that I know there's some really expensive pieces in there I know I found a 18 karat gold multi-colored sapphire bracelet like a tennis bracelet a 14 karat gold diamond tennis bracelet a pair of diamond earrings that were valued at like $4,000 I gave to my mother on top of other unusual pieces and my husband said to put it all on the internet for $500 I said you're insane there's no way even if I took some of the silver plaques and bowls I could probably get 500 bucks easy for a couple pieces just in their weight... What's worse is I love all the stuff that's in there and don't want to get rid of it I guess it makes me kind of crazy if I had stuff like this I would wear it I think it's beautiful and it tells a story every piece of jewelry that I wear I remember where I got it and who gave it to me or how much it was and what I was doing that day it's a memory that's engraved in my mind and I think that jewelry carries energy especially pieces that never come off
It's sad to think that most of this stuff, collected over generations and presented to the roadshow, would have been sold. If they'd just looked at the gold value alone, it was an investment worth hanging on to.
just remember folks, don't pass down anything to your children or relatives because they'll eventually pawn it or get it appraised to then pawn it or sell it.
that's kinda sad that her grandmother handed it down to her only for her to sell it for about 10,000 lbs, i mean it's not that much, i would have kept it in the family to pass it down.
Hope she decided not to get rid off them somebody else cannot appreciate it as much as what she does and to be in your family that alone tells you keep it. Money will be gone in a short time and then you don't have anything to show!!
My nan would have opened the door to scammers and had the lot stolen and been waiting on the doorstep to tell us the bad news when we all got back from work bless her😹
Whats sad is usually people who inheretthings of value and land often dont inhert the knowledge of how to make money with land and usually end up selling being short sighted Imagine if all our inheritance grew from generation to generation wirh the knowledge of how to hold onto wealth
I think he was estimating the value too low ,especially since the ring was engraved in 1849. I think if it were appraised in the states the value would be much greater . He must be doing that to make an offer ,I hope she gets another opinion .
It would not surprise me that this programme was designed to systematically strip the public of anything valuable for the 1% Committee ( The extreme rich who run the planet)

sold that night LOL
What a stunning collection, I wish they had shown us more of the pieces in detail. Worth a lot more than that now.

Hope she saved them all. Worth over 10x that now. Will only go up. Amazing collection
Hopefully it’ll be inherited by her daughter or something like that ;)
Beautiful collection. We love John Benjamin - he knows everything about jewelry.

Way under priced!
Nice collection and the box is equally great.
Hope she still has it and passes it on!
Agree ;)
What a beautiful collection ❤
very nice 2 c old stuff.

Amazing collection.
I wonder how much the box itself is worth, I have one very similar. 2 secret compartments.
Wooow amazing 😱😁
Undervalued. Even for the year 2000.
