My dad, may he rest in peace, always loved watches just like her dad. He collected them and had about 30 to 40 watches in his life time. All he wanted for Christmas was watches and shirts. He was robbed and he was so depressed. My brothers, sister and I pitched in and bought him watches and I bought a safe. Dad passed away at 98 years old. Love you Papa.
He didn’t have home insurance?
I love how she knew Cartier and Rolex, the two brands that are worth the least in the bunch.
Rolex insanely overpriced. Should be a ~1000€ watch new. Not 15000+€
There was a Rolex on the roadshow that was worth $750,000
Just depends on the model. All those brands can be crazy expensive.
@@js0988 but the problem is it's hard to get a new piece retail price.
Because Rolex is a watch brand everyone knows about, and Cartier is a brand well-known among women because they focus a lot on products for women. AP and Patek used to be something only watch and horology enthusiasts knew about, but today, thanks to rappers and other celebrities, the average joe knows about AP and Patek too.
Forget about the Rolex and the Cartier. The Blancpain Moonphase watch was the icing in the cake. Such a beautiful watch.
That watch caught my eye as well. Gorgeous watch.
I'll keep my Seiko. Only $100.00
@@paulvon2378 Wise man. No one will open your grave.
I love this appraiser. I shop in his store often. Great guy.
Any idea whether this family auctioned off the watches?
His pronunciation of the names and places are horrendous.
@@sgroadie6367 agreed. Respect for learning about the brands, but you’d think that if someone invests so much time learning about them, they could find an extra five minutes to learn and practice pronunciation.
He should fix his pronunciation of "Blancpain" though :-)
@@JanPBtest the Audemars Piguet pronounciation was hilarious too. would seem very unprofessional to me if i plan on investing 4 to 5 figure amounts into a watch and the seller cant even pronounce the brand names
man's last days - my treasured watches, bring them to me for one last wear.
daughter - about that...*holding new chanel purse

omg
I come back to this one from time to time. It’s fascinating to see these beautiful watches. To learn about them. It’s exciting to see the appraiser so enthusiastic. But most of all, you know this young lady has tears in her eyes because she is thinking about her father, and, literally, how precious time is. It’s a very special moment.
Nah bro she sounded excited to sell this stuff off😅😂
I believe you've romanticized this entire episode.
@@stevendonovan9762and I believe you certainly have a right to your opinion, but not to mine.
Nice comment; ignore the nattering nabobs of negativity.
They've appreciated significantly since then.
Absolutely. I'd like to know what the AP's would go for currently.
They have not actually. Not these models. The watch he's wearing, the 116520 with the white dial, costs more than all of them combined (more or less)!
So have eggs!!!!!!!!!!
Too bad she sold them all on the ride home from the Show.
They looked like Dad hadn't just collected them--he wore them. He had extremely good taste--every watch collector who sees this is gonna flip.
Her dad will never rest in peace if she sells those.
@@ScotchOnyx Unlike almost every other appraisal I've seen on ARS, I thought this guy's estuimates were on the low side, particularly the Patek and the Blancpain.
I think he had a great collection the Rolex was his beater watch I reckon
They would be worth triple that in today's market.
Not really, the surge has been mostly on the sports models.
@@rodrigodeoliveiraleite5129 agreed, a quick online look around at prices from credible dealers confirms it.
@@christopherrobinson972 Infact, the chronology hobby has plateaued in the last couple of years due mostly to a finite number of interested parties (the hobby can only grow so far) as well as many other factors including that vintage watch prices soared so much since the early naughts that there is simply not enough "meat left on the bone" for smaller investors to speculate. The watches themselves, are much more difficult to find, the days of the GI estate sale Rolex find are done. The internet has made it all but impossible to find a diamond in the rough as everyone with access to a computer can quickly determine the value.
@@michaelhughes3302 Most vintage is out of style for the new generation to keep pushing prices higher.

And a lot of money.
No doubt! The man knew his horology!
Soon as he said Patek and AP my mouth started to water. She had no idea what she had. Beautiful collection!
Beautiful Collection of Swiss Watches!
I’m not into watches whatsoever, but this guy’s excitement is infectious! All of a sudden I was enthralled! Brilliant work!
This is a gorgeous collection
I must say, those watches worth much more than those prices.
This was 7 years ago
This was almost 9 years ago as of the writing of my comment. Watch prices have gone into the stratosphere in that time, these watches are almost certainly worth a lot more today than they were back in early 2014!
Yeah, the price of the simplest Rolex has doubled since this was posted.
Absolutely!! I certainly hope the lady was wise and she held on to them.
@@lawriefoster5587 they are not in a good shape so yes it has raised but not that much. its not a nautilus or grand complication. Still this is a nice collection and the father knew what he was doing
I invested in Eggs and chickens and have made a fortune. Much more then If I had invested in these watches.
@@Heart2HeartBooks A chicken may make you wealthy, but it cannot tell you the time. Plus, it is impractical to wear one on your wrist.
I love this episode is one of my favorites. The fact that she's so proud of her father and loves the fact that he collected him and you could tell she was just overwhelmed and amazed and proud of him for having this kind of collection
I didn't read it like that at all. She seems money grubbing to me.
Yeah totally excited about cashing in in the watches. A true memory would have been cherished if they’d kept the watches and not just wondered how much they are worth.

D'accord!
Beautiful collection! I have a jewelry box full of old watches, but nothing finer than my Rolex Tudor from the mid '50's. I would love this!
Joe Bob Jones You need to get on this show and get all your watches appraised!
@@AndySaenz he said nothing is finer than his Tudor meaning all the other watches are not worth anything big
Is it an old Tudor Sub? You should have it appraised. Some vintage Tudors are commanding 5-figure values right now
Probably close to 100k today
two years later - beyond, closer to 200K
Those watches are worth way more!!! Especially now!!
Not especially now just now, back then they were worth exactly what this guy was saying
WOW, they are all beautiful watches! If I had that kind of money, I would buy them all from her and her dad!
I thought u wrote, by her and her dad too. Opssy
what an amazing collection.
As a budding watch collector and enthusiast, I'm not into dress watches (yet) however as soon as the watches hit the screen I knew that it was gonna be a good and expensive collection. The Pateks and Cartier jumped out right at me.
question: why don't the Pateks work now?
@@Samahn112 It is possible that they are manual wind, needing to pull the crown out and wind it. Alot of the dressier watches are manual wound to keep the profile smaller. Automatics tend to be larger becouse they need room for a rotary. That being said, some dress watches are automatic and are very slim but VERY expensive.
This aired in 2014. I guarantee those prices are WAAAAAAYYYYYYY off now. That grungy old Rolex would probably fetch 7 or 8 at auction. Auction of both Patek’s and buy a house…😂
I really wish it was the original owner getting the appraisal. I’d love to see the enthusiasm for the article they love but when it’s an antique you go with the flow.
He's dead bro.
Her father knew his Watches ⌚ 💯👌🏻👍🏻🏴✌🏻
Yes and what great taste too!!
Worth a lot more now in 2021!
Yeah, I don't think an update of the appraisal value would have been accompanied by the evil down-vote fart sound!
What's more fascinating is that the fact that her father use all those watches. The wear and tear made it even more beautiful even though it'll worth more if it's stayed unworn. Especially that Blancpain.
I love to see people being pleasantly surprised. In many cases the keepsake value means more to the owner than the monetary value.
Really? She has no semblance of the names on the watches? “A few thousand dollars?” 😂😂😂
@@HHH-ye1ro Many people have rare and/or valuable things that have a special and non-monetary value. And they (or their heirs) sell the items cheaply, give them away, donate them.
I think ive found my new favorite type of videos
That Datejust has an engine turned bezel, not fluted, which unlike the fluted is steel not gold
This video was posted here on YT 9 years ago...not sure when this particular show was originally aired - but I'm pretty sure that here in 2023 the collective value of those watches would be somewhere close to $100k. Today I stopped in at a retail store that specializes and trades in the finest vintage timepieces. There was a ladies Rolex President that was more than $11k itself. There was one watch in the display case (I forget the brand name) that was more than $30k.
Last summer I sold them my Rolex datejust for $5,500 (which is more than I paid for it. I know people are paying these prices because whenever I stop in that store the watches that were there before are usually gone (sold) and there are 5 or 6 collectable watches I have not seen before.
How can one be a watch expert while one cannot even pronounce the names of some of the most famous watch brands?
Americans are renowned for this🤣
He didn’t claim to be a watch expert; he’s more likely fine jewelry
@@ImtianaJones Yep. I'ts the same with cars. Who doesn't know the famous German brands Woukswaggon, Poasch and Ohdi?
Ok, pronounce Seiko lmao
Be interesting to see how much those same watches would be worth in 2022.
400 dollars, best I can do, I am taking all the risk here, selling these watch will take tons of my time and probably 3 years.

@@80sOutrunFan wtf?
It really depends on the date of manufacture. One needs to remember, there was no such thing as a 'Luxury' watch before Seiko released the Astron in 1969, the worlds first Quartz movement watch.
Before then, there were some watches which had some pedigree which made them stand out above others, sure.... Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe for example, considered 'quality' watches even before the 'Quartz Crisis'.... Blancpain for that matter too, though they had already lost much of their panache to a degree by the 1960s.
However, Rolex were just a nice Swiss watch any middle class man, even a hard saving blue collar one, might own. Perhaps a little more special than say an Ingersoll or Boluva, but they and Omega and such, were essentially more just 'glamorous' European Hamiltons or Walthams. A great may Swiss makers were no more special than that. Of course, Rolex already had a huge profile, and massive brand recognition, but proportionally, compared to today, inflation accounted, their watches were MUCH more attainable and had not yet become the synonym for Luxury Watch they have today.
Thus, this CAN in fact effect the value of a watch..... today.... the second hand Rolex market, for their more iconic watches, like the Daytona or the Submariner, can be INSANE. Yet only for Rolexes made in the last 30 years, generally speaking, and only for the right models.
What DID make a watch 'Special' before the 'Luxury Watch' era, however, was history, and origin.
For example, that Cartier. The Santos was the world's first mass produced, publicly marketed, MENS wrist watch.... up until the end of WWII the pocket watch was a mans watch of choice (some say WWI, but this is not true, WWI and the 'Trench Watch' increased the popularity of wrist watches with men, but pocket watches were still insanely popular right through the 20s and 30s).....but Louis Cartier was a smart man.
That watch bares it's name... Santos... for Alberto Santos Dumont, the famous pioneering Brazilian aviator. Dumont lived, and made most his early contributions to aviation, like the worlds first purpose built aero engine, in FRANCE, not his homeland. Specifically in Paris. Whilst there, he became close friends with Louis Cartier. In 1904 he asked Cartier to make him a wrist watch, as he needed a good watch for flying, but he could not fly his airship safely if he had to take a hand off the controls regularly to check a pocket watch, it required both hands to fly the thing. Cartier made him THAT watch.
In fact, many consider it to be the worlds first pilots watch, and indeed, tool watch. Cartier made it tough, engineered it beyond requirements......because Dumont had already had two lucky escapes from air crashes in the time he knew him. It was a great watch, Dumont approved of it. Cartier realised he should sell it, so in 1905... iirc, it went on sale.
A nice vintage Santos, then, of late 60s or later, even today, would not be worth THAT much more than the evaluation..... probably not even close, say to doubled, in the last 8 yrs. HOWEVER, the OLDER that Santos is, the MORE it is worth. Because it IS a watch with such a great origin story, made by one of the great jewelry houses of the world, it is potentially worth more than any Rolex, Audemars or Blancpain of that pre-Crisis era, even if only dating back to the early 60s.
Additionally, that Audemars Piguet with 9-D movement, is also likely to be worth something pretty ridiculous now, maybe.... because that dial reads Gubelin. You see, THAT was also something which made watches 'Special' back before the 'Crisis' and the birth of 'Luxury Watches'.....the provenance. What told you THAT was the case back, or dial, often both.
Gubelin is a name which says excess, wealth, lavish luxury, and a watch face that reads Audemars Piguet... one of the 'Holy Trinity' of horology (along with Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin}, well that can be enough to mean that even if it predates the 'Luxury Watch' era, that watch is going to be potentially worth well over double what was said, now, today. The only way it could be worth more is if it had say 'Tiffany & Co' on the dial in place of Gubelin.
In fact, this could apply to that Cartier too. IF that Santos was bought in Paris, from the main Cartier store THERE, it would not just say Cartier on the dial, but on the case back, or case back AND dial, it would say 'Paris' as well.... and THAT would add to the value CONSIDERABLY.
Taking all that in to consideration.... the Rolly being probably some mid 80s piece, is likely to maybe be worth say, 3 or 4 k more now. Thee Santos, perhaps a little less...unless it is older than the Crisis era, towards the furthest backdate of the collection, and especially if it has good provenance too (though it was probably bought in the US alas).
The first three watches are probably worth double what they say here, now.... but if they are from the latest date, close to the 90s say, in the era when such watches were now rather elite, exclusive pieces, hand crafter masterworks in horology in the era of Quartz, then something like that Ellipse could be worth half as much as that again.
The Gubelin AP however, with that ultra thin movement, because of the movement, and because of the Gubelin name on the dial, in conjunction with it being an Audemars Piguet, could easily see that thing worth three or four times what this fellow claimed back when this was shot. Same with Blancpain... it is a Blaincpain... they are possibly more exclusive, and more ostentatious.... more 'Luxury' than even Audemars or Patek.... and it has additional complications too.... a day/date/month AND moon phase, along with being a Blancpain.... this watch too, is likely worth triple, or more what is quoted here, now.
Ironically though, the second hand watch market is kind of crazy, and the right type of mid 90s or later Rolex Daytona, for example, could be worth WAY more than any of these watches, even though it is WAY newer. Likewise... an AP Royal Oak, just about ANY, though especially some of the more flashy ones made in small numbers in the last 20 years, is going to be potentially worth double what that Daytona is.... the right one anyway, even if IT is even younger.
In many ways, this period, between the mid 60s, and mid 80s, is kind of the worst era for watches to be from, to hold their value. They're not old enough to be a huge deal, say like a pre 1910 Santos, or pre WWI Rolex wrist watch of any kind..... but they are not from the 'Luxury' era, either, when these companies took their watch making to a whole new level, to be able to justify the prices they needed to charge, to stay in business, now they had to make them so much more special to stand out from cheap Quartz watches.
Of course, the pricing in the 'Grey market' of watch trading is fluctuating all the time, and something could happen tomorrow which makes all these watches worth ten times what they chap in this video says they are... or conversely, some other thing could, which renders them virtually worthless.
They should really look for the boxes and papers for these watches. If her dad was a real collector there's a good chance he kept those, Which could add incredible value. Also, may find additional and original bracelets to the one with an after market band.
I've seen this clip a few times. It's interesting how she always reacts the same way.
The design on that Audemars is outrageous. I would take that over all the others.

Why is it that so many of the finer things are Swiss-made? Watches and clocks, sewing machines, chocolate, cheese... If it's made in Switzerland, you just know it's gonna be top of the line and built to last (if mechanical) or absolutely delectable (if edible).
