Personally, I think the port is fine. I expected it to be a bad port only to test it out for myself and only run into a single glitch. Oh, and the touch controls could’ve been a lot better on iPhone but at the same time, it’s not a problem for me until I play a blue spheres bonus stage whereas the controls arbitrarily decide at random whether or not to randomly misread my inputs causing me to fail. The rest of the game seems fine enough to me. If you happen to be a Netflix subscriber who doesn’t own a switch then it’s a free 10/10 Sonic game, despite the port being a bit lazy or lacking in the optimization aspect. Other than that, I think a lot of the hate it’s been getting is largely overblown because literally no one cares besides Sonic fans bruh.
@@amygaming9976if official mania for android exist now even there's an decomp version, why not 3 and knuckles can have an official port even theres air
I think this moblie version of Mania isn't so bad, but not as stong as play this on a Nintendo Switch or something. I remember playing the Classic Sonic games on my phone, and the controls were janky and were definitely something to get used to. When I started play on my Switch, it felt a whole lot smoother and cleaner playing on that console. I'd say any 2D platfoming Sonic game would be better with the Nintendo Switch, or at least with a controller. Still, I think this version of Mania is something. I still like Mania, and I can see why people are going to start hating over this mobile version. If you like it, great. If not, okay. I'm personally playing this on my Switch. Not bad, I would say. Great showcase, Chris!
Nope you’re wrong. I’ve been absolutely dreaming of sonic mania on mobile no matter how bad quality it is. It’s still sonic mania. This is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
Yeah just play the decomp. Google it and you'll have it ready to go in like 5 or 10 minutes. It will run perfectly on fairly old phones. And it runs ultra-wide for any phones that'll support it.
A friend of mine wanted to play Sonic Mania because he didn't have it. We found this port on the App Store and we had a lot of fun. This obviously isn't the ideal way to play the game, but it's not like that was its goal. It's a mobile port, and from our experience, it worked really well. Seriously, we really enjoyed it. Being tied to a subscription is one thing, but this game is available on so many platforms. So can somebody please tell me WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
the trend. If Sega succeeds, considering youtube is doing the same thing as well, this means games might join the cable hell too since that's starting to come back
Lots of bugs from the mobile port. One of them that experience is that the sound pops in and out every half second. Mimicking a scratched audio CD 💿 (if you’re old enough to remember).
Ive already beaten Sonic Mania on the Netflix port while using an iPad. What i want them to do is for an option to change the size of your gamepad because its way too small on the ipad and i dont have any wireless controllers. But i can see that playing the netflix port with a controller or backbone really works so much and makes it way better.
There’s a few problems. 1. You need a good internet connection to play. Can’t chance you playing without a subscription, I guess. 2. The main menu is weird now. Not only does it just look weird, but it also cuts strangely when entering and exiting menus. 3. They cut time attack and versus. I get versus considering the device, but not time attack. That’s lame. 4. No touch screen control adjustment settings like the Sonic 1 & 2 mobile ports. That sucks. 5. The audio is the bit stuttery. It’s not egregious, but it is significant enough to be at least a bit annoying. Would’ve paid 25 bucks if they released this for, well, 25 bucks as a one-and-done without these problems.
I play the Netflix version on IPad(my mom's) and I enjoy cuz it's the only way I'll ever get to play it so I just gotta be grateful for what I got, even with the all the downsides comparing to the original
I’m glad they made this easier to get debug mode on sonic mania mobile version, if you think this is fake, I have proof, press the Sega letter at the title screen til you hear a ring sound, go to mania mode then no save mode, you will see an S monitor, press on it to enter the level select screen, once you get into a level, you will see a building tool level, that is the ability to enter debug mode.
SonicHub basically stole all my thoughts and put them on his review(this is a joke btw, just saying that your thoughts in this review are basically identical to mine about this mobile port)
I’m having audio issues (music sounds a bit chopped) but the gameplay itself is smooth. In comparison to the Sonic 1/2/CD mobile ports, this one just feels a bit lazy and unfinished. Like you said, it looks like it’s running on an emulator and not a properly optimised game for mobile.
I was so excited for this because I lost my sonic mania cartridge and then when I found out you had to pay for a subscription because it’s Netflix games then I started to be depressed again
When it comes to performance the game is fine. But for some odd reason the soundtrack pops in and out every half second. Also, at random some of the pixels would place themselves somewhere. And I want to be able to buy this game outright. Netflix is known for locking content to certain regions from time to time. Netflix needs to fix this pronto.

Surprisingly enough I didn't find any issues all the other people talked about excepto the touch controls. They didn't ruin my experience at all when playing the main game but chrono requiring fast inputs definitely was pretty bad. Another critique would be the added graphics for the port, since they look TRASH and not even trying to be on the OG game's pixel grid at all, don't look like they were made by a pixel artist at all and just are shit. Everything apart from that was fine. The game not filling the entire screen sideways is fine, since we had never seen mania so wide and old games are definitely easier to do since they're more simple. (even if it wouldn't be hard to do in mania but eh I really don't care)
Ive compared the decompilation to the nrtflix version, my conclusion? Touch controls on netflix? Bad. Framerate? Just got done with it, all Emeralds playthrough plus Encore Mode. It was fine I guess. Already I'm not a huge fan of Mania (it's a 6/10 at best for me, it's such a nothing burger game, low-key over glorified recontextualized remake of the OG games but with a weaker narrative pull) and this did the game no favors in my books. Performance was peak 90% of the time (random slow downs rarely), no major bugs or glitches (only thing I encountered was sound effects being disabled after receiving and ending a call, had to restart the game), controls are fine (mobile touch controls always get slack by non-mobile gaming casuals so I don't pay that much mind, they're OK, the usual basic stuff). Overall to avoid yapping too much it's just the same ol' Mania but ever so slightly worse 👍
Sonic Mania has been ported to almost everything by the community and Sega seems to be the only one to screw it up on an official release on a popular platform.
True but I experienced a lot of problems with the controls (especially with the mini games) but at the end of the day it's sonic mania. Let's just appreciate the fact that sonic mania is on mobile rn
Dude, the way I see it. You got multiple of the platforms to play sonic mania on if you want it portable play it on the switch otherwise you got steam and the other consoles to play it on. It’s not a big deal.
Sonic moves like he's wading through molasses. I'm using a dpad controller. I haven't died in chemical (water trap) plant since I was a kid back in the 90s.
I've played Sonic Mania before on my switch a few years ago, I don't think it's a good idea to force people to purchase a Netflix Subscription JUST to play Sonic Mania Plus on mobile. Like come on Netflix 😔
I haven’t played this version yet but it’s weird that this version is worse than the switch version that I have although the switch version runs pretty good.
I mean if you have the pc version might as well go and decomp the game. it has ultrawide mod, you can do anything you did with pc version and use mods. it is better imo.

The game isn't bad, it's the fan itself who always makes a fuss over small things
They are tons of dropdowns
True but I experienced a lot of problems with the controls (especially with the mini games) but at the end of the day it's sonic mania. Let's just appreciate the fact that sonic mania is on mobile rn
Dude, the way I see it. You got multiple of the platforms to play sonic mania on if you want it portable play it on the switch otherwise you got steam and the other consoles to play it on. It’s not a big deal.
How to play sonic mania plus in mobile version please
But sonic is gone on playstore i don’t found it
Sonic Mania is one of the best Sonic games EVER made. It's a game made with so much love and detail put into it.
Horrible take 💀 That honour goes to Unleashed and the Adventure games.
Sonic moves like he's wading through molasses. I'm using a dpad controller. I haven't died in chemical (water trap) plant since I was a kid back in the 90s.
It fine to you sign the phone without a controller
Wish it wasn’t a subscription, since that means they can take it away at any time
sonic dream team = Mario and Luigi dream team
sonic rumble = pokemon rumble
More like Sonic Rumble = Fall Guys
Why is my own called sonic mania plus netflix😂😂😂
I've played Sonic Mania before on my switch a few years ago, I don't think it's a good idea to force people to purchase a Netflix Subscription JUST to play Sonic Mania Plus on mobile. Like come on Netflix 😔
I prefer to have classic sonic games on consoles instead of mobile
Want to play "Mobile" then play the Switch Port or get yourself a Steam Deck, MSi Claw, Aya Neo, or the RoG Ally.
Or Bluetooth controller
I haven’t played this version yet but it’s weird that this version is worse than the switch version that I have although the switch version runs pretty good.
When I saw the title of the video saying sonic mania is bad now I genuinely almost had a heart attack
smh dream team shouldve been the netflix game atleast it would be on both android or ios, couldnt be too upset about mania mobile being ios only tbh
I mean if you have the pc version might as well go and decomp the game. it has ultrawide mod, you can do anything you did with pc version and use mods. it is better imo.
5:21 okay but luna is definitely much worse, streaming a platformer is torture no matter what
Thanks for your review I enjoyed it!
why would anyone be angry that this is even on a subscription as common as netflix? almost everyone has it to begin with.
To Be Honest With You, I've Always Been A Sonic Mania Hater, I Never Liked Sonic Mania At All, I've Always Liked Sonic Forces Better
