You should have done a harder model year like an 03 ext cab where its on top of the tank under the front corner of the bed on the inside of the frame, not so easy on a rust belt truck.
For anyone trying to find it on the 2003 Silverado, it's actually above the tank, but semi-accessible (and visible) from the separation between the bed and cab.
@@spartanshadow13 I just replaced this yesterday, took me a minute to find it, replaced without removing bed or tank, used the new upgrade for replacement with filter relocation house making it easier to access for future replacement.
@@DaveWight-wc8vl on the 2003 Silverado, it's actually above the tank, but semi-accessible (and visible) from the separation between the bed and cab. I didnt remove bed/tank. I removed 1 bolt for the holding bracket of evap vent solenoid. Then wiggled bracket off of solenoid and pulled it out. then using micro flat head to help disconnect electrical wire on inner side of solenoid carefully, and then used two micro screw drivers to help me pry off vapor line. The replacement is slightly different desing and supposed to be improved. So it came with new bracket that bolts in old brackets hole yet now instead of facing towards gas tank, faces away from it. Used wire extension to make wire reach and replaced hose even though that was the same. The new model has charcoal filter as a seperate component from the evap solenoid connected by a line which I ran along the frame and ziptide in place.

@@robleekay6271Hi, was your truck shutting off after turning on? I have the same code error and truck shuts off after turning on. It will stay on if i step on the gas though.
Do not forget that little, tiny sensor on the gas pump top... It dies and no pressures are noticed... It's the reason why just replacing the evap vent valve does not fix the evap valve code.... Mine did this...........
Well when the vent valve goes bad it starts to build pressure outside of the normal allowed tolerance limits and it could hit that sensor and damage it to. So that's a good point, to keep your eyes peeled for that after you replace it, it's possible that you might need to replace a faulty sensor as well. Thank you for that share and reminder.
If you clearly have issues venting the pressure in your gas tank and then you change this valve. The sensor will not prevent you from filling up your tank and it will not cause you to have to pump your gas like a carbureted engine just to get it to start after you fully fill up your tank.
Completely agree. The reader may be confused when you call the vent control valve a "canister". The canister is actually the charcoal canister, an entirely separate part of the evap system. Just say'in.
Not only does the design and location differ from model to model but it also differs from year to year. On the 03 Silverado 5.3s the oe vent is the same style (solenoid & vent in one) but different design and in a completely different location. It is much harder to get to, almost impossible without lifting the bed or dropping the tank at least.

Is this the same process for a V6?
Hello...!! I have a 2000 Yukon Xl ( 5.3L ) The" "Service Engine Soon " Yellow Light is On all the Time...Won't " Clear "... The Code is 0452. Supposedly ,
The Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor ( Improper Voltage. ? ). Should I replace the Canister& Evap Vent Solenoid as Well...?
Or just Deal with the Tank Sensor ( R&R ).?? Gas Cap and Tank Tube Seems Normal... Please Comment.
I need to get this SUV Smogged & Registered..!!
Thanks, BillinL.A.
i have this code but my tube is about 2 feet long. did i get the wrong part i wonder . 2006 gmc sierra ect-cab.2wd
I relocated mine cause of how painful it was to remove , just buy you some extra hose , hose connections, and maybe some wire and mount it somewhere easier to work on.
I replaced mine with an new ac delco part. 24 miles later I still got a P0442 code any ideas?
Did you replace the solenoid like they did here or did you replace the canister also? Which they didn't do here.
Hey I’m having the same issue with that code were you able to get your check engine light off ? I reset mine and the p0442 comes on after roughly 4-5 hundred miles
If there was two hoses originally and you added the extra hose there’s three so which one is not getting used?
Thanks alot guys you are very helpful
i have a 99 and 02 silverado 5.3 and none of the vent valve looks like that and is not located in that spot.
is there like two parts too this some videos have guys changing a part under the hood and you are changing a part under the truck same year and make can you please answer these questions because Im totally lost and Im sure others are.....?
The one under the hood is probably the Purge Solenoid - just on top of/behind the throttle body?
@@LemurMonitors yeah but others are saying this code error is the fix for under the hood but sounds like I may have to do them both haha
@@LemurMonitors This code P0443
DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) associated with this fix:
• P0442
• P0446
• P0449
• P0455
so my code is P0443 and is not for your video people just shoving keywords in the title of their videos make it confusing not you but other videos on here thanks for showing these codes in the description and lucky me I don't have to go under the truck! so my code is for the actual one under the hood. Im writing these comments in case other people like me get confused on this
What is the purpose of this Gizmo? Also I don't think I have a fuel filter is this what there doing now?
Is that black tube foam or rubber
My 2005 Chevy Silverado Evap canister as a medal plate covering it ?? Why yours don't have a plate covering it ??? Just curious ?? I was wrong I found it lol
What if i replaced that, no evap leak by the motor but still have the check engine light?
I have Denali 2010 when I remove fuel cap then this car shut off its self quickly please suggest me about this problem
You should not remove the gas cap while the vehicle is running, when you do it fills the gas tank with air, the air will go through the EVAP system which will result in an excessive lean condition and cause the vehicle to stall.
@@LemurMonitors thanks
Does it apply to a 6.0yokon denali
So for a 2006 silverado it's located in the same spot?
I have the 01 1500 but I cannot find mine, do I need to replace the whole charcoal canister
Did you find it I’m having the same problem it’s not in the same place as this video
@@jdmurfreesboro2738 yes it’s above the fuel tank in between the cab and the filler neck level with the bed mount
@@coleamedeo6865 Thanks for the quick reply an information
Does it effect the way the truck runs
Sorry, wrong code, mine was P1441. How do I fix it?
