  • Owning a yacht can be pretty costly! So today we're telling you about the Actual Cost of Owning A Super Yacht. Know any yachts for sale that you wanna buy? Maybe you'll think twice after watching this video.
Owning a yacht is one of the most extravagant hobbies to ever exist. Yachts are expensive to buy and keeping them maintained and in good condition is no small feat. This costs a hefty amount, and a good rule of thumb is to expect spending around 10% of the yacht’s total price annually on keeping it up and running.
This however doesn’t really work in all scenarios since yacht costs can vary widely depending on when they were made, how big are, and blah blah blah. For example, an 84-foot yacht built in 2002 and refit in 2015 can cost $1.45 million, while a 270-foot yacht built in 2013 can cost $132 million. Now if you try to average out a per feet cost that doesn’t really work out since the 2002 yacht costs about $17,000 per feet while the 2013 one costs almost $50,000 per feet.
So, all the variety makes it difficult to set a standard or an average that you can just apply to all yachts to calculate their upfront and running costs.

100 foot yacht, shows the Flying Fox, a 136M or 446' GigaYacht. Also these numbers are kind of skewered. A 100 foot Explorer yacht isn't the same as a 100' Mangusta yacht. Also, if you own a 100 foot yacht ,you probably would have a yacht management company. A 100' yacht, for private use would have a crew of 3 or 4 at the very most. Internet, for high speed which is not very high speed would actually cost you over 115k per year. Chartering a yacht, a good yacht, would cost you about 150k per week. And no charter yet...NONE...ever operates with profit. It's just covering the cost of maintenance and upkeep, but also wears the boat out quicker so it's actually not all that lucrative. Plus a stressful chartering season results in crew's is. And most yacht owners sell their yachts after 3 years because most of them have already planned and developed their next yacht and 2-3 years is how long it takes to build.

Thank you cliff. I was about to make the same point. Also to the person who wrote this script to my knowledge no yacht has a missile defense system. Maybe if it belongs to a head of state but I doubt that. BTW I use to work for a company that sold and installed high tech security systems for yacht. Basically if it could be put on a yacht we sold it and we never sold missiles. Missile defense systems (which are basically guns lasers or missiles that shoot down incoming missiles. Other than that great video
