Dave may not have written as many songs as his brother Ray, but when he did pen one it was worth listening to. "Death of a Clown" is a good example.

Best rock band ever. They have 20 classic tunes easy. Best storyteller in Ray Davies.

The drums on this by Mick Avory are very cool. I like how they close it out with just his beat-very original. The album is filled with many very great tracks. Rats, Powerman, Money Go Round, etc. Thanks for doing this one. Have followed this band since 1964.

I've been singing along with that chorus for over 50 years, Biz, "We are not two, we are one." I am so happy you were knocked out by this song. The musical genius of the Kinks is Ray Davies, but this beautiful song was written and sung by Ray's brother Dave Davies, lead guitarist of the band. Though the Kinks no longer tour, Dave still plays live, and this song is always a highlight of his shows. Please listen to Lola vs Powerman with all of us! It's loaded with great tunes, among them "This Time Tomorrow", "Get Back in Line", Apeman", "Powerman", "Top of the Pops". The Kinks are certainly up there with the greatest bands of all time, Beatles, Stones, Zep, Who, Creedence. The Kinks are right there. Keep playing great music, my friend.

Thanks for getting this. Really one of the better lyrics ever written. It's about an old Friend of Dave's that died of a drug overdose. Really a great exploration of human connection, uncertainty, and the search for companionship in a strange and hostile world, emphasizing the idea of unity and connection despite life's challenges. The lyrics convey the sentiment that despite feeling alone, we can still find solace and understanding in one another

The Kinks were definitely one of the top bands in their era. As great as they were they were equally underrated. It is good to see them being appreciated by another generation.

Celluloid Heroes is a great tune not often played.
Another song that kind of sums up the relationship between Ray and Dave Davies is called Hatred.

I was lucky enough to see the Kinks live back in the late 60's, at an all night Blues concert at Birmingham,(U.K.), Town Hall. What a night, with also, The Animals, Spencer Davis Group, Moody Blues, Alexis Korner, Long John Baldry and a couple more.

I'm a nomad. I've been living on the road for years now. One of the hardest things about that life is saying goodbye to people. I don't have much money. I teach English online and sometimes in schools when I'm in a place where it pays enough to feed me. I spend most of my time in volunteer hostels and other hideaways where people like me end up. An upside of that life is that you meet so many people that live in similar ways and we become such great friends so quickly. Sometimes life hurts so badly and so quickly because of that. I've fallen in love and had to let that person go in a short span of time way more than most people ever do over the course of a single lifetime. This is a nomad song. It captures that feeling perfectly. People like me don't make things easy for ourselves. We do it because we want to see and to experience and to feel everything. We're not satisfied with settling for anything. The easy road is ugly to us. We want to touch the very edges of what a person can know. We do that because we know that we only live once, and we want to reach as far as we can while we're here.

is "Death of a Clown". You have been doing a fantastic job the last few days - great variety of music. More Kinks, please Plus please try Small Faces, another unknown but brilliant from the same era - "Whatcha gonna do About it", "All or Nothing", "Tin Soldier" - they need some recognition and love 😍 - THANK YOU

Absolutely. This is an incredible album! Both deep and fun as they try to come to grips with all the changes that are happening in their lives, including dealing with stardom but also just becoming an adult and living in a bad, bad world. You have to remember that the Kinks were banned from touring America for four years at the height of their popularity, preventing greater popular and financial success. Lola v. the Powerman was their first album after the ban and they could tour the US.

More Kinks please, best kept secret in USA rock n roll history since they were banned from touring in the 60s and were deemed too british and conservative during the hippie movement. You should do sunny afternoon or waterloo sunset next. They have so many incredible songs, it is an experience just to get to know them because they were almost never played on US classic rock radio growing up.
