Dave Davies - the Raging Bull of the Les Paul
Great band, great song. A sort of extended more detailed theme of the Tull song last week.
Some people think of The Kinks as a sort of pop singles band but they could rock with the best of them, especially live
This is from the dawn of punk, 1977
God Save The Kinks!
Greatest band ever.....in the mix
I've always felt that The Kinks were the first punk band.
They certainly were credited as an influence by numerous punk bands, so I'd say that your instincts may be correct.
This came out in 76. Several years later I finally got to see them with the original Pretenders opening. They didnt play this lol.
Songwriter and singer Ray Davies and his brother Dave, (lead guitarist), grew up in a working-class household. Many of Ray's songs contained social commentary, like this one.
Father Christmas came out in 197 and the Kinks are considered one of the fathers of punk possibly the first father of punk even though they only consider themselves a rock band. I mean you have to consider their first 2 singles were You Really Got Me and All Day and All of the Night 2 pretty aggressive songs. They are also a band that wrote songs putting transvestites in a very positive light. Something that was pretty rare for the 70s when they wrote those songs.
thanks, kids! My favorite Xmas song.. gotta hear the lyrics... really a great rocker that highlights the commercialization of the holiday... Kinks were genius... Hope you listen to more of very diverse works... appreciate your reaction...(p.s. there is a very cool live video for this... pretty sure this was 1977)
To me it beats all the other Christmas songs and definitely have to hear it every year )
Great song
Released in 1977
Absolute favorite of mine love you guys
GOD SAVE THE KING,,,,,AND GOD SAVE THE KINKS !
My favorite Christmas rock tune! This used to be played a lot in the 80's on rock radio.
Came out in 77.
The Sonics' Santa Claus (aka Santa Claus and/or Davy Crockett by the glorious Headcoatees) might be the only contender here.
The song on the flip side was Prince of the Punks. About an aging rocker who thinks he is still a Punk at heart, but sold out.
One of the best Christmas songs which told it like it is and was. They always rock out. They were kind of the earliest punters! Mid 1970’s!
Kinks are the forerunners of punk. I would categorize them as “garage rock” , but hey, I hate categories. Merry Christmas
1977. You should have used the video from this great song!
Didn't know there was a video! Thanks for being here Michael!
Great reaction! I want your analysis to falling in reverse and Ronnie Radke vocals in 3 reimagined songs: 1 last resort reimagined original by Papa roach , 2 I'm not a vampire revamped 3 the drug in me is reimagined 💝
Punk B4 punk was punk.
Gee which it was upbeat lol
1976
Hey Sick After Dark I get stoned after dark!
