It's a dirge, a song Dave said he wrote about the death of an old school friend by overdose. He sings it perfectly here, just the way he sang it on the Lola album. The line about "if I live too long I'm afraid I'll die" is a humorous tribute to the Hank Williams lyric that Dave thought was funny when he was young. Wish it was a better recording, with the music the way it was on the Lola album. A real fan of The Kinks never underestimates Dave Davies' guitar playing, harmonizing and solo singing, writing, stage presence and style, or his willingness to physically fight with his brother and co-founder of The Kinks, and deal with the behavior of bi-polar genius songwriter, singer, and showman Ray Davies when they weren't fighting! If he hadn't we wouldn't have had The Kinks from the 60s through the 90s. Thank God, Dave survived his stroke and came all the way back, relearning how to sing and play, and continue his solo career. God Save The Kinks!
it's from Lolo versus the powerman and the money go 'round, I agree it's great and really any song that Dave sang was great. I Love Rays' voice but it's nothing without Daves' razor harmonies
@Giorgi Kareli-It's called technology. If you consider that this recording is 44 years old, it is actually better than 90% of the Beatles Bootlegs which were reportedly the first ones to come to the states. You want quality recordings> They exist but have been cleaned up by the manufacturer.
This Dave Davies composition was sung by him really flawlessly, despite the -to current standards- poor recording quality. Try this song at home. It's really hard to sing the second part of each of the 3 verses.
Where is this album with Dave davies on the cover? It’s really good but I can’t find it on RUclips anymore or any information about it on the internet.
@@jeremyschep3589 Ray’s never said he’s bi, (though he’s also never denied it) i do think people just don’t like their sexuality being speculated about
@@neyshil2895 I believe it was Dave? Still though , yes, he isn't *quite* bisexual per se, he was just curious and experimented briefly back in the day. I wasn't really specific in that regard (or maybe just ignorant lol)
@@neyshil2895 he actually said he was bisexual in a interview with candy darling in 1972, and also said in an interview in 1965 “if it wasn’t for my wife, I would be queer”

Dave's vocal performance here sends a shiver down my spine - simply stunning and wrought with emotion..
This version sounds like Daniel Johntson in all the best ways
Like if Daniel Johnston had a happy song it's this
Like he’s opening a vein...goosebump worthy!
A beautiful song. Thanks, Dave.
Dave is my favourite of The Kinks, what a passion dream boat of a lad
I've been searching youtube for vwrsions of this song and no dislike in any of them.
It's a beautiful and touching song.
This sounds like a song that The Band would've performed, with Rick Danko singing it.
the best version of this classic...simply pure genius, mr. Dave Davies.
god this songgggg is fantastic
Dave Davies was the
Unbelievably beautiful song
Great stuff. The vocals here really remind me of Levon Helm, and a Band vibe overall.
More like Rick Danko.
Yeah it sounds like a song The Band would have done but with Rick Danko singing it.

I love this song! I wish it was a better quality but still amazing 🤩
Thank you
Beautiful
bless this man
Dave was a stud

If only rumors going around of someone being a queer weren’t necessarily a bad thing
He would go on to come out as bi.
Also the 70s to lgbt folks were like the 50s to poc

Anyone have details about where this concert is being performed?
I believe this is from their show at Pierce College, 21/11/70
@@neyshil2895 thanks
Ray said The Kinks were drunk in those days he was right
I would like to know why many great artists suck miserably at live performance.
P.A.s were really bad back in the day. And drugs were really good.
How does this suck? He's singing perfectly in key
@Veinytriumphant barstard its 1970 it cant be mad quality
@Veinytriumphant barstard its better than nothing
You can tell in this stupid comment that this person has no artistic taste
