First tutorial stimulating enough to watch! What a bop at the end! Will post about it on TikTok and Snap to all my friends; wait already did while watching.
Went into this video thinking: “I don’t listen to or know much about hyperpop but this could be interesting”. Came out with the horrifying realisation that almost all of the music I’ve been listening to since about a year ago ticks pretty much all of these boxes. It’s got the overlapping melodies, the distorted kicks, the ridiculous speeds, the nostalgic synths, the almost complete lack of traditional instruments, even the occasional discord ping in the background, _everything._ I’m… not sure how to feel about this.
Yeah, Hyperpop feels like a mix of most "internet culture" music styles, so it's easy to see the influence of music like J-Core (chord sequences, arpeggios that feel really japanese pop inspired), Hands Up, Trance, videogame soundtracks (specially PS1/N64 and early 2000s eras japanese and UK stuff), Speedcore, Future Bass, with a bit of Trap/Soundcloud rap or whatever, so yeah: it feels like a giant meme at times (which isn't necessarily bad, but most of the artists/scene feel more like shitposters than actual people interested in music)
You have my favorite production channel on RUclips, thanks for everything. Time to make some hyperambient to listen to at my job that will never get me a home…
I was ready for the long boring rant about how things other people like are bad but instead we just got valid social commentary on our generational divides. Appreciated ♥️
Pro Tip: When creating a Kickdrum in Serum, turn off "Random Phase" (the top right knob below your wavetable)! Otherwise, your Kickdrum will sound slightly different everytime you play a note... If turned on, Serums osc will chose a random starting point (or phase) for your waveform, when pressing a key. This feature emulates the sound of analog osc's, that actually oscillate all the time, befor hitting a gate that only opens up when pressing a key. Meaning your waveform will be in a different position pretty much everytime you play a note! Pretty cool to give your leads/pads etc. some analog feel, but a bit unpractical for drums in my opinion!
Just discovered your album from this video, 'leave me' is incredible, so full of plot twists! I didn't expect the metalcore breakdown at the end Took notes on digitalis and morph
