Excellent information for a newbie like me. I've been storing the molds in ziploc bags to keep them dust free. The silicone oil is something I didn't know. Great tip. Besides the soap and water, I've also been wiping them with 75% IPA. Hopefully IPA is safe in the long run. I'll stock up on acetone as well.
Funny I called Smooth ON and they said there is no such thing and it doesn't help. I haven't seen Alumilite do a test unless they have a video on it with tests.
Thank you so much for explaining so deeply. Just wondering what is dilicone oil? For where can i find it? Any other chemical name for it? Or any alternative?
can silicone lubricant spray be used in place of mold release when casting your model for getting it out of the mold... it is so much cheaper then the mold release.
So heat from the environment is bad for the mold but heat in post curing is good? I work in a 3 season room and store my molds there also and it is regularly in the 80’s during the day in the room.
Can the viscosity of the silicon oil increase the life of the mold? Low viscosity can sleep deeper into the pores? I've read a research paper where low vis oils worked well in other applications.
Hello thanks a lot. Molding an item with matte and glossy black on the same surface and after 2-3 times slicone is loosing smoothie suefaces what shall i do?
How do I fix a warped mold? I have an arch/rainbow silicone mold and one side of the mold is slightly bent inwards…it’ll create a “wave” or “upside down speed bump”
I wish someone would explain how to label your molds. I make bangle bracelets in sizes and sharpie permanent marker doesnt stay. If I lable a -plastic box, the mold comes out and gets mixed up with other molds when i use it.
I tried a mold release spray, not this brand I think. The silicone was hard to clean off when prepping the parts for painting after. I use a light powdering of talcom powder or a light smearing of vaseline.
A soap and water wash and then a solvent wipe prior to painting usually helps! In some instances, light sanding may be required prior to application of paint.
Any data, anecdotal or otherwise, that suggests pulling casts out while they're "green" to reduce the amount of heat the mold absorbs, thus extending the mold life?
i use VASELINE on my platinum molds... lots of vaseline.. i believe that the molds will last for your entire lifespan if you use vaseline as a coating... Think about it, the resin isnt actually touching the mold itself , so how can it wear out.
How often do you recommend oiling and baking silicone molds. Is this something you only need to do when it's close to "death" or will doing it say 1 once a month or every use be ideal.
Any reason why my mold blank that I made using yaps product is starting to yellow in the cavities that resin gets poured in? Would that negatively effect the most we can from these yellowing molds? Thanks
Ah, yellowing molds can be frustrating! It sounds like your mold is starting to show some signs of aging or environmental impact. Here are a few common reasons why this happens, and how it might affect your resin projects: UV Exposure: If your molds have been exposed to direct sunlight or UV light for extended periods, that can cause the silicone or urethane to yellow over time. This is more common with clear or translucent molds but can happen with any type of mold material. Resin Reactions: Some types of resins, especially those that generate heat during curing, can cause slight discoloration in the mold over time. Heat, as well as the chemical interaction between the resin and the mold material, might contribute to yellowing. Age and Use: Like most materials, molds have a lifespan, and frequent use can lead to natural wear and tear. If you’ve been pouring a lot of resin into the same mold, the material can start to degrade, especially in areas that experience the most pressure or heat. How Yellowing Could Affect Your Casts: The yellowing shouldn't affect the final resin pieces too much as long as the mold surface is still smooth and intact. However, if the yellowing has caused the mold to become brittle or sticky in certain spots, that could lead to imperfections in your castings. You might start seeing: Surface flaws in your resin pieces. Potential yellowish tinge if your resin is clear, as the discoloration could slightly transfer or reflect onto the resin.
I know this doesn’t pertain to molds, but can the liquid dyes be mixed together to make a color that is not available? Am looking for a pink to use for breast cancer awareness pen blanks and have run out of the pink I have.
After storing my molds for about 2-3 months, whenever I started using them again they started to deform after 1-2 uses inside the pressure pot. Like the surface got all bumpy as if air had gotten into it and couldn't get out. I have to admit they were stored in a shed outside and we reached temperatures of around 105 F this summer... Do you think the temp might have been the culprit? Thanks... love your products.
You're such a great presenter providing all the information anyone needs. Big fan
Thanks so much!
I didn't even think about the different types of mold release...Thank you.

Great tips! Thanks for watching :)
This video is right on time.. 👍👍
We could sense it! Thanks for watching, Jake!
Thank you! This really helped me. I'm just starting into making molds of my sculpts and this info is invaluable.
Thanks for sharing. I will definitely try the silicone oil. I didn’t know much about silicone mold care before the video now I feel like an expert 😂
We're glad we could help!
Amazing tips.. thank you so much
HUGE Whiteboard - the little things that make a girl happy 😀 ty
Very helpful! Thank you😊
Great advice OMG!!!! I didn't even know there was silicone oil or that you could post cure for a "refurb." Thank you so much, good job man!

Excellent share of useful videos
Thanks a lot!
Great info! Can you do a video on the "post curing"?
That's a great idea!
Is it aafe to store molds between sheets of wax paper ?
Awesome tips 😁🤙
About release agents, does dry ptfd work good on silicone molds and epoxy resin?

Can u please guide me what can be done to repair the deformed shapes of moulds
good advice thanks

Yes Peter, that is definitely possible!
Can you use "Robinair premium vacuum oil" like you put into your vacuum pump oil onto your mold?
Is this silicone oil?

Most definitely the heat and moisture.
great humour . Yo could make taking a math test sound appealing !!
gr8 job!
Thank you!
Can you make me a custom mold ?
What the hell i was told isopropyl alcohol
